Notes from the arena champ.
Ahh yes. Sunset. The jewel of the Delarquan Federation. The arena of death.
As I walked down the hall to the throne room I could smell the must in the air,
noting the age of the building, the granite floors and marble walls. Many have been
the champion seated on the throne. Many have left immortal, others to die defending
thier honor. I wonder as to what my fate shall be. I am still young, I won't be
leaving soon, and the competition near me is fierce, including one that has killed
many. As I enter the throne room all is as I have dreamed of. I now seat myself and
I look awestruck in disbelief. The mosiacs on the walls, the busts on pedestals,
armor, shields, weapons, this is more of a museum of greatness. Will I leave
something here? Will I be great and remembered? Or will I be struck down in the
fury of battle? Time will answer all.
Enough of the sentimental aspects to Sunset as I now press on to more urgent
matters. And that is the mouth of Ben. You call Ikillu out as the scummiest loser
out there. I am here to defend him. At every possible turn I challenge Toot, I will
kill him, and if I don't, Lord Bliss will. I know he's avoiding, he's yellow. You
are being called out from the throne room, Gentle Ben. You were hoping for blood,
then you hide. If you're gonna sing it, bring it. Stop being a coward and liar.
And avoider. I don't know your definition of a loser, but you fulfill all
definitions of mine. The Raging Lords will grind the Bazaar into the arena sands.
As it is said, it will be done. And a thanks to old Salty for giving me this
opportunity.

SPY REPORT
It's me, The Unknown Spymaster here with my bag to give you the news on last
week's fights. Say good-bye to GRIM FANDANGO, as they are pushed from the coveted
top team spot by the RAGING LORDS stable. It was a tough week for GRIM FANDANGO, to
drop 4 places in the rankings. Coming up with a solid 3-2-0 outing, TEAM SLIME has
advanced 6 places in the rankings. Advancing in the rankings was SEA DOGS who went
from last turn's 157-108-12, to this week's record of 161-108-12. Hey everybody,
watch out for FATHOM JUMPER, who flew up 20 points in the rankings after mashing
VENOMOUS CONCUBINE like a melon. Keep your eye on this guy. And falling like a
basher in the top ten was CATHER, who dropped 15 points after a disappointing (to say
the least) bout with YUEDEBAHL LITHA. What does the Duelmaster and Piltdown Man have
in common? They are both the most challenged apes in human history! Heyheyhey! Our
battling duelmaster BONEFACE has managed to hold the title, fending off MOLOTOV's
none too subtle advances. Better luck next time, GRIM FANDANGO. An apple a day
keeps the doctor away, but an onion a day keeps T.P.s at bay.
But enough of that bunch, let's get on to the wimps who like to avoid battle!
Did you hear that NOMADIC TRIBE was most avoided team this week? Well, knowing the
personal hygiene of NOMADIC TRIBE's warriors, I'm not surprised! Okay, so I may not
be funny, but catch GRIM FANDANGO's act in the arena. Those acrobats seem to be
fairly deft at running from NOMADIC TRIBE. Can any one out there say 'weasel'? Oh
well, just saying RAGING BULL will do. He challenged 23 points down to trash ICE.
Here is a definition of happiness: ICE bested RAGING BULL to go from 1 to 24
recognition points. In a touching display by a 'touched' warrior, KING TOOTNPOOTN
went after SCIPIO SUNSETUS, who was higher by 19 points. Well, when the dust
settled, KING TOOTNPOOTN was overcame by SCIPIO SUNSETUS. LORD NOTSONICE of RAGING
LORDS had better have a good reason for challenging down 10 points in a challenge
which he won. I thought LORD NOTSONICE showed great skill and promise when he
overcame TOMBSTONE. All right, so I slept through it! Big deal!
Remember that an arena is not always a safe place to be, but it is one of the
most interesting, though! Congrats to SILVER SMURFER for revenging the death of his
teammate (but more importantly, feeding MILINA a bit of dirt). Here's some advice:
warriors with little wit and will may encounter problems on the trail to the Isle.

Lord Protector Ulrich Bladesong -- Look, I was flippant about the sack lunch, I admit
it. That was... well, YOU didn't call for it. But certain people who rank above me
in the Commisson, ah! "Alamar, give them lands," they tell me. What lands? Do I
look like someone with lands? Do I look like someone who could afford to go out and
BUY lands to give away? Any time you want to look at my budget, I'll be glad to loan
you the microscope. I did bring it up to King Cyrath, and he was, ah, not
encouraging. Well, he said, ah, several uncomplimentary things about gladiators in
general and specifically about the Gladiatorial Commission if it honestly thought he
would give away "pieces of this small island kingdom to everyone who can make it
through the arena system, who will then immediately leave, abandoning said lands, and
who will avoid paying taxes in any way possible." Really, I can see his point.
Once he calmed down, the King had the following suggestions to make: That those
gladiators, few in number relative to the number of graduates, who care to return to
Sunset from time to time, undertake a sort of time-sharing agreement, perhaps in some
of the "condos" along the north shore, and he will see to it that said condos are
available. Or that you think about the possibility of relocating to Lirith Kai, as
the trade agreement which Sunset has with Lirith Kai allows certain Sunsetter
gladiators of good character access to lands there on the same terms as Adantri
gladiators, which terms are that the lands are on one of the borders and the
gladiator who receives them must reside there for a minimum of eight months every
year and defend that stretch of the border and the people who live in the area
against any and all problems that come on them from across the line, usually raiders,
predatory animals, and "Other Things."
At the present time, this seems to be the best we can do. -- Alamar,

There has been a run lately of personals and columns turning up in the wrong
arenas. When you email in something, check and make sure you have the correct
arena number! It's easy for a finger to slip onto the wrong key. When the
receipt comes back, check again to be sure it went where you intended!
