TEAM SPOTLIGHT
THE ADM REGIONAL TOURNAMENT
The next ADM Regional Tournament will be held in the months of October/November 2011
and will be contested in the regular arenas during the late Summer months.
Q: What is the ADM Regional Tournament?
A: The ADM Regional Tournament is a competition where the best and brightest warriors
from the ADM regionals compete for bragging rights and to see which region is the
best!
Q: How does it work?
A: During the month of October, the warriors of each Regional Team will be temporarily
moved to a special regional arena, where they will battle it out in a single
elimination tournament. The last warrior standing wins for his region. (Learns,
skills, and FE gained during the contest will not be permanent.)
Results will be posted online during the months of October/November.
Q: How are teams determined?
A: There are 10 warrior slots given out to each team. The 10 Stylemasters of each
regional arena during Saturday, October 15th will automatically qualify and be
selected.
To qualify for a Stylemaster position, you must have been active in the arena in 4
of the prior 6 turns including the last one (2 of the last 3 for Crysalis). (Thus,
you'll want to activate your warriors before the week of July 23rd, to be safe.)
Should a team not be able to qualify all 10 warriors, they may select wildcard
entrants to fill those empty slots. However, they must have at least 7 different
styles represented AND no more than 2 of any style. Should they not be able to
meet this criteria, their team will be filled with NPCs.
Each manager may only play for 1 region and may qualify no more than 3 warriors on
a regional team. They may play a 3rd warrior only if everyone else who wants to
participate already has 2 and/or there is no other option. A manager may not have
more than 1 warrior of the same style on the regional team.
Q: What's a Regional Coordinator?
A: The Regional Coordinator is the unofficial "team captain": They are in charge of
putting together their team based on the rules, trying to make sure everyone is
included and that any disputes are handled. (For instance, if someone qualifies
more than 2 warriors, the regional coordinator will work with that manager and
determine which warriors will participate on the team, and then notify
replacements, etc.)
The Regional Coordinators are: Manager (Andorak), Buri(Darkholm), The Dark One
(Free Blades), Crip (Crysalis), Master Darque (Unnamed No Tourney Arena), One Arm
Bandit (Home Guard). If you need to contact them, you can write a personal ad in
the ADM arena, or send a diplo to them at:
Manager: Superior Forces in DM 105
The Dark One: Angels of Pain in DM 103
Buri: Tackle Box in DM 104
One Arm Bandit: Sea Dogs in DM 101
Crip: Royal Flush in DM 106
Master Darque: Darque Ages in DM 81
Q: What does happen if someone qualifies more than 2 warriors?
A: That manager will be able to decide which 2 to send (or, if there are no other
options, the manager may send 3--see above) and the next highest qualifying warrior
will be able to take place of the warrior that doesn't get sent if it's an
automatic spot. It's definitely a good idea to communicate with your team
coordinator and fellow teammates. Remember, even though you are fighting for
qualification spots, you all still want to put together a competitive team! (All
of the captains treat this as an inclusive event so it's unlikely anyone will
completely get left out in the cold.)
Q: What if my warriors are not in ADM regional? Or, what if they are in the wrong
ADM regional?
A: If your warriors are in 100, or are in the wrong region, and they haven't fought
since the split, you can request to CSR to have them moved into the proper
regional arena.
Q: Is there a prize?
A: Bragging rights!

SPY REPORT
Well, what are you looking at, SUNSET? Ain't you never seen Snide Clemens
before? Ah, shaddup and listen to my news. Now keep the taverns open late tonight,
for there are sorrows to drown for CAJUN APOCALYPSE, whose 0-0-0 this turn dropped
them by 7 into 22nd. Ha! BLOOD AND SAND turned their 4-1-0 turn into a 4th place
rank in the listings this turn. Any better than this, and you get put on hit lists.
Of course, we're all terribly impressed to see GRASS SEED win a fight and gain 26
points, terribly. Tsk, tsk, KALLIA MAY beat RAGING BULL and RAGING BULL lost 23
points. You're breakin' my heart. Due to absence, and inability to defend the
throne, CHESTERTON has lost the Title of Duelmaster. Start setting that alarm
earlier! And it's out with the old, in with the new, as RUIN takes the Title and
last week's bar tab from the old Duelmaster. Heh, heh. I'm not in a very good mood
today, but why am I telling you this? You want to know what's new, don't you,
SUNSET?
Well, let's take a look at some more misdeeds of you miserable sword-boys.
NOMADIC TRIBE, I suppose you'll be glad to know you were this turn's most avoided
team. Care to know who is the most afraid of you? And who led the way in this mass
act of cowardice? Let's see, well, whatcha know? It was COSMIC FREAK OUT. Ha ha ha
ha! Ooh, I'm frightfully impressed, LINGERING BUZZ was this turn's most challenged
warrior. Watch that ego swell, sports fans. I guess I can give a little credit to
PIETROS of BLOOD AND SAND for challenging up by 24 to ELISE ISLA. PIETROS won to get
47 points of recognition.
Ah, now we come to my favorite part, where we see all the guys who are dead and
gone, and get to see if their team cared. And what a stunning loss we have here,
boys and girls, HOLY MOLY of RAGING LORDS has added the final loss to his 4-4-1. Tee
hee! And one more turn will show if GRIM FANDANGO can successfully bloodfeud that
elusive CLUSTERFLUFF over HALO. Titanium shields and bamboo daggers, guess what
brave team is developing these kinds of weapons?
What does the SUNSET arena have in common with the inns? It's just as
comfortable to sleep in either place. Ha ha ha ha! Just wait 'till next time I show
up here, I won't be so nice! So nyaaah! I see the crowds are getting restless, I
must leave now-- Snide Clemens

went 4-1-2. Since then and in the last two turns we are 1-9-0. Cursed, I tell you!
-- The Cajun
Yep, sounds like it.
I Smoked What?!! -- Well, that was quite the rollercoaster ride. I thought you had
me, then I thought I had you and then you got me. Good fight! -- Praechyon
Musubu Kin -- What lucky parries are you talking about? "Luck" would have been had I
blocked only one or two of your attacks. "Skill" is where I blocked ALL your
attacks. Now, if you were jealous because you only managed to avoid one of my
attacks, I would understand that. -- Seliora
Hoosier -- The joke was stale the second time. -- Cerryl
P.S. Maybe even the first time...
Xian Lin -- That's what you get for down-challenging, no skills! -- Catfish
Kano -- I have not had time to write ads for a couple of turns, but it seems you have
been quite busy. Honestly, you complain about "useless slop attacking the messenger
instead of the message?" Really? In the same message in which you refer to Stik and
me as "little snot punks" and myself as a "jerk?" That doesn't seem like attacking
the messenger to you? I would like to point out that Stik (And Jorja and in these
ads myself) responded to your argument on points without resorting to personal
attacks.
As for wins and records, of course luck has to do with it. A lot. Good luck and bad
luck. I have had some very good warriors roll through this arena. I have also
fought some very mediocre setups to see what wouldhappen. Yes, I did DA Hroloc and
Grunge, but only after they had a chance. But luck is only a part of the package.
Is anyone here surprised to see Ben & Jerry's with a top record? Knowing the
identity of the manager, I am not surprised. Because there is a lot of skill and
experience involved.
Now, are Stik and I in cahoots to dominate the arena? Well, we do get along. We do
send messages back and forth, and discuss the game. But I also do that with others--
and would happy to discuss the game with any other manager who wanted to send a
message through the website or the old-fashioned diplomatic messages. There isn't a
whole lot of cahoots going on and I'm not quite sure how one would do that. And
sabotage? To what end? The one thing we are in cahoots on is to promote this arena
at every opportunity. That might be sabotaging other arenas, but certainly not this
one.
And one last note-- if a lack of public contradiction means everyone agrees with you,
well, it seems that everyone must also agree with Stik and me.
Enjoy the games. -- Nomad
Kano -- The argument on points is an interesting one. I don't think I agree, but I
have to admit I have never considered it. It seems likely that, as Jorja suggested,
you are mixing up cause and effect. However, how could one test the theory? Have
you crunched any numbers to test the theory? I suspect you would need to throw out
challenge fights because in those cases the lower ranked warrior (usually the
challenger) probably has the advantage because they chose the fight. But if you
compared all of the non-challenge fights over a long period of time it might tell you
if higher ranked warriors win a lot. Of course, higher ranked warriors probably
ought to win a little more than they lose, so what percentage would prove that
something other than "higher ranked warriors tend to have more experience" is going
on? I doubt the theory is correct so I will leave the research to you, but if you
do have the numbers I would be interested in seeing them. -- Nomad
Metaru Hei -- In that case, maybe a little less armor would have helped you out? The
crowd may have found if boring, but I loved it! -- Walli Weeble
Red House -- I feel like a house just fell on me. Ouch. Nice challenge. -- Lupus
My sword and Savior -- An interesting name. So are you MY sword and savior? Or are
you your own savior? Since I won it seems you should be mine, but I don't like
blades.
Renegade -- Nice fight! It had some good back and forth. This dueling stuff is
exciting! -- Padoka
Mundane -- I found that fight rather boring. Well, not boring exactly, more
uninspiring. And painful. Ouch. -- Kadoka
Cosmic Freak Out -- Best of luck to you if using Sugar Magnolia on the Isle without
armor and that lack of strength. Opponents are so much less forgiving there. Here's
to hoping I never see you again. -- Moshi Haru
Slowhand -- If you can't beat 'em, Skum 'em, aye? When you broke my spear, the fight
was a forgone conclusion after that. -- Musubu Kin
Walli Weeble -- If you can't beat 'em fair and square, then Skum 'em, as is always
said. You prepared yourself for that contest and caught me off guard, so this time
the fight is yours (even though I was on top for the vast majority of the battle). --
Metaru Hei
Stik -- Hey, if it isn't working for you, then by all means dump it in the DA. --
Kano
All -- All I'm saying is that you're not doing yourself any favor by dumping a brand
new roll-up in the DA. It's a waste. It's a mistake. Unless the roll-up is
something just so outlandish as to have no redeeming value (the 1 in 10,000
scenario), then feel free to humor the DA. Can't say I haven't done it before, but
have always regreted it in the long run.
With regards to Popularity Points, or Recognition Points, or Slaphappy Points, or
whatever the heck you want to call them, just Points. To actually engage in an
attempt to deny that these Points have nothing to do with the determination of fight
results is like living in the dark wearing a blindfold. Where in the universe have
you been living during all this time playing Duel? Under a rock? The whole problem
is that these Points have far too much weight in determining our fight results. Now,
of course, we have this impediment to our successful gaming pleasure known as the
Commission. The fact that this 'group' is so unapproachable to worthwhile
suggestions contributing to the improvement of their product is very counter-
productive and discouraging. Player cynicism, apathy, and fatigue can only be the
result.
If you happen to have been offended by the notion that you've been blessed with a
generous portion of luck with this game, then congratulations. You have every right
in the world to be offended and have no right what-so-ever to tell someone they
cannot make any educated observations. I just happen to have experienced the polar
opposite of luck in Sunset. Story of my life perhaps; just not a very lucky guy, I
guess. I've had much better luck in other arenas, which is one of the reasons I
admire Sunset so much. I like the challenge of the competition here. Now let's
party!
Any of you ever had two warriors with virtually identical skill numbers [at the
beginning] and almost exactly (just 1 or 2 whole numbers difference) the same attribs
that end up with very different strats, record, skill learns, etc?? What would you
say are the reasons for such a thing??
Not much to comment about with regards to the Battle Report. Boooring might be a
good way to describe it. All those Lungers continue to struggle with losses in
Sunset. Seems as though Lungers should be doing better than they have been, but
perhaps it's just because there are so many of them. I dunno.
I'm just a regular guy that happens to have been playing this game for about 23 years
now. Nothing special. I probably don't know any more than the guy playing less than
half that time. Be very wary of those few at the top, infatuated with their ill-
gotten record, readily willing to tell you how they are great and just, in spite of
their enormous ego and arrogance. Far too much of this game is hidden from our view
for the know-it-all's to profess knowing anything different than anyone else. Far
too much of this game falls into the shear luck basket for any of those dopes to say
they know how to run warriors any different than you do. Have NO fear. Aim for the
top. Study and fight with confidence. -- Kano
Dred -- I once knew a Judge with a similar name.... I gave him the smacketh down as
well! -- Level of Malevolence
Miter Box -- Looks like it may be time to hit home depot yet again, heh? -- Row Dayo
Drive
Minami Tori -- You guys sure do like challenging my brethren... you're going to force
Marma Duke to create scum hunters. -- Hoosier Daddy
Batwamba -- A loss to the tribe!!! Oh no.... Marma Duke is going to penalize me
double for that! -- My Sword and Savior
Hardy -- Har HAR! You must have drunk a bad case of Mississippi Mud before the
fight! -- Tis The Season To Be Lethal
Bitter Dove -- Aye, it is my friend... and I do! -- Tis The Season To Be Lethal
Marmaduke -- Nice 3-turn old boy. Just need a kill or two to top it off! Bring the
squad down to the Broken Bone tonight, a round or two on us! -- Stik and G.F.
Whoohoooo, I beat the ambitious guard! Hey, he teaches better than a lot of you
louts! -- Helrazor
DM/LP Chesterton -- Not a good showing on my part. Congrats on the grad notice and
the victory. Salute! -- Blakskul
Mannequin -- Well, two turns dodged and damned if I think I didn't forget to
bloodfeud this turn... -- Stik
All -- Welcome my three rookies... gently... preferably with your guards down... and
hung over... and blindfolded. That should be enough of a handicap! -- Stik
Gredan -- Good to see you back in the fray! -- Stik
Kano -- ...ZZZZZZ... (YAWWWWN).... I'm sorry, what?!?? Oh, good GODS, man, more
unending self-righteous drivel?? Will it ever stop? And, more to the point, will
anybody care one way or another other than to get a laugh out of your pathetic
attempts at grandiose dialogue?? Peruse your verbal vomit of last turn and see if
you can find the part that made me laugh the hardest. Too good! Nomad liked it as
well. We're colluding, you know. Maybe somebody would want to "collude" with you if
you didn't engage in such douche-baggery as that every turn. Think about it. -- Stik
Booray -- Wasn't sure I was going to pull that through. -- Lenny
Sledgehead -- You should see someone about that. -- Hope
Chunky -- Nice rating. You're way better at that stuff than I am. -- Bruno
Ruin -- Good luck in your future endeavors. -- Ophelia
Sorry no personals today, short on time. -- Jorja
