TEAM SPOTLIGHT
Instinctively he stabbed forward with his Dagger but as his eyes fixed on their
target he realized the hand that had grabbed his shoulder was not the hooded stranger
but in fact his teammate. Both parties reacted with instinct and the thrust missed
its target, thankfully.
"What are you trying to do? Kill me?" asked his teammate.
He apologized and explained that he had decided to follow the mystery man to see
where he was going, perhaps even who he was. His teammate warned him that arena
battles were dangerous enough he needn't be chasing mysterious strangers late at
night lest he get himself killed. Or even killed someone else.
The two gladiators returned to the Broken Bone to share a few drinks before it
closed, for tomorrow their training began for next week's duels.
The next morning he arrived at his stable's training ring early to speak with
his manager. He explained what he had done, and seen, or not seen, the previous
night and asked if perhaps the manager had heard anything as to who the hooded figure
may be. He learned there had been much talk of him but nobody knew anything for sure
about who he might be.
His manager explained that there had been rumors that several wagons had come to
town, under the cover of the night, perhaps 6 weeks ago but shortly after entering
town the few guards who were on duty that night found no reason to be suspicious of
the wagon train. Though at an unusual time the party came aboard an official
Delarqan ship and had proper documentation from the Gladitorial Commision. It was
the following night that his gladiator's obsession first appeared in town. There was
no evidence that he was one of that ship's passengers however.
He went on to explain that the rumors of a "wise old Magic," having come to town
were merely that; rumors. No manager in town had anything but anecdotal evidence
that there was any ancient Magics about. There had also been rumor that one of the
old vacated Guild Houses had shown signs of activity late at night, rather than
during the day as most operated, but this was nothing to be neccesarily wary of. In
fact recently many old Gladitorial teams had returned to Sunset; some of them
returning to Guild Houses that they had retained ownership of, some that built fancy
new Guilds, and many others who simply rented some of the ancient Sunset "Houses of
Battle."
Despite his manager's reassurances he was a wise old gladiator and had even held
the Duelmaster title for a turn. Something deep inside of him stirred a restlessness
that this strange man had a secret that he was hiding, and he just had to know what
it was. Perhaps he came with that late night wagon train, perhaps he brought it
here, perhaps he was a street urchin wandering the town for years that nobody had
ever paid notice of. There was just something about him he could not put his finger
on but he could not simply "let it alone." Regardless of how sore he was after
training today he planned to go to the Broken Bone Tavern and see if the dark
stranger showed his face again tonight. And if not he would return every night
following until he could lay his suspicions to rest. Some way or another....

Notes from the arena champ.
Well, well, I made it up here. I knew I had you beat, Hardy. You need a new
name. Wait, is that spelled wrong? Leprechaun never let me attend school. He told
me to get out in the yard and let the others hit me. I do like this throne, though,
fits my large backside quite nice. This round I am going after other big dummies and
see who stands longer.

Welcome SUNSET. I, Olaf Modeen remember this place well. Many the fights have
I fought here. The celebrations, the disappointments... Bein' on top is great while
it lasts, CAJUN APOCALYPSE. But how many friends do you have now? Phhbltt! Too
much drinking and too little dodging gave CELESTIAL WRATH a 0-0-0! I got a good
laugh out of it! Ya gotta be quick on yer feet! Keep your elbow off the table!
Thrust! Block out the pain! OMINOUS REIGN is now ranked 6th with a 3-2-0 turn.
Some people say I ramble too much, I don't say anything relevant. I repeat myself.
I ramble. Well THE BLUES moved up 4, to 1st. What's with BEASTLY SMURF? She
actually beat CAJUN APOCALYPSE's HARDY, and walked away with 21 more points from the
fight. Major screwup at TOOL SHED. PHILLIPS HEAD lost 15 points to FLAP JACK. Some
new strategies, perhaps? Maybe PHILLIPS HEAD will provide more easy wins... Another
fighter (SPOONFUL 21-8-0) challenged another Duelmaster (WHEELBARROW 19-14-0). Life
goes on. I'm sure SUNSET is excited about SPOONFUL, the new Duelmaster from THE
BLUES. (remember?) But when you've seen as many as I have... Advice to fighters
with a 1 will--give up fighting!
No matter the time or place, men will always duel. SUNSET thinks GRIM FANDANGO
and their 747-650-31 is too much! If at first you don't succeed, give up...
Management must be dealin', as the boys at THE BLUES ain't reelin'! GRIM FANDANGO's
mad! How well I know the feeling of being the most challenged warrior, KILMOAR!
Don't make idle boasts, they may come back to haunt you. Taunt your opponent JACK
FROST! That was my lucky charm when I was unfairly challenged. (and by 17 points!)
BUMBLE should have an easy win. BUMBLE's gonna be practicin' hard this week, after
JACK FROST, lower ranked by far, mashed him! MIME BOGGLING of BEN'S BAZAAR knows how
to pick 'em. He challenged LIL' JACK HORNER of ALL JACKED UP II who is up by 23.
Now was this a wise move? MIME BOGGLING perhaps got his just desserts, seeing as he
was subdued by LIL' JACK HORNER and ended up with 55 recognition points.
Warriors of SUNSET unite. You have only your games to lose! MAPLE, with hers
forgettable 9-7-2, was slain by EVNMOR BLAK in a forgettable match. OMINOUS REIGN
didn't seem to mind very much. Here's some advice: study your opponent, master many
skills, fight dirty.
Many other cities have retirement homes for aged warriors. Any plans here?
SUNSET is a nice place to live, but I don't like to live in nice places. I don't
