Andorian Edition
Aruak City:
If Segallion and Nila were under the control of the spell or spellcaster who had
seized her mirror, then they had to be stopped. Without needless injury--they had
not chosen to do Khaldren's will, after all. But her own mind, though free from
outside control, was weary and slow. She was fumbling as badly with her spells as
Segallion was with his sword. There wasn't going to be TIME for her stop him gently.
A word of Command formed on her lips.
The warrior staggered into her so that they both fell in a tangle of flailing
limbs. And his sword struck the blood-faced mirror, splitting the frame and
shattering the glass.
The glass exploded away from the mirror stand, bloody shards flying outward on a
wave of sound so shrill as to be barely audible. If Adie, Segallion, and Nila had
not all been on the floor, they might have been badly injured, even killed. Was it
chance that they were all below the deadly glass? Adie thought not. They were each
worshippers of the sun in their different ways, and she suspected the hand of the god
in their survival.
Rolling away from Segallion, Adie sat up, brushing at her hair and her robe
absently. When the mirror broke, she had felt a shadow lifting; that was the first
she had known that there was a level to the enemy spell below the obvious. She
shivered. She hadn't even suspected that deeper spell, and it could have done...
anything, it had taken her so completely by surprise. But she would not be surprised
a second time.
On the road from Ardivent:
"Health, humility, and honor will not solve all problems," Master Cho said
flatly. He had rejected the idea of hiring a horse and was making surprisingly good
time for an elderly-looking man on foot. "You know that as well as I do, Fandil!
Sometimes you need cunning, as well, and a willingness to take losses."
"I know that." Fandil the Wise sounded testy, and in truth he was very
irritated. On the most immediate level, by Cho's present attitude and by the ease
with which the Adantri kept up with Fandil's horse. "But young Adeolar is not a loss
I'm prepared to accept."
"Of course not, or why would we be rushing toward Aruak City instead of sitting
at home with beer?" Cho squinted at the forest on their right. There was a bad
feeling to it today. Most of the land that lay between the environs of Ardivent and
the beginning of the Aruaki lands was forested. Despite the hunger for agricultural
land in Andoria, no one had made an attempt to clear this forest and put the land
under the plow. Nobody offered reasons, it was just "not done." It didn't take a
master of the subtle arts to figure it out, though.
The forest was haunted.
Through a sweep of land twenty miles wide stretching from near Lyratilan to near
Mordant, the forest concealed a scattering of ruins. Not the Van ruins of northern
Andoria, or not entirely--who could know for sure at this late date? The ancient
city of Celestinvael was the best known in modern times, but there were other things
hidden by those dark and tangled trees. Maybe worse things. Things that might be
wakened by the same spell that was stirring Celestinvael.
It was not a situation to make an old man sleep soundly at night.
"I just hope we're in TIME to help Adeolar," Cho muttered.
"She's strong and skilled," Fandil protested. "Our fears may be completely
unfounded!"
"So you'll back Adeolar's young strength and skill against Khaldren's ages of
experience and cunning? I hope you're right, because at our best pace," he glanced
scornfully at Fandil's horse, "and with no problems, it'll take us two more days to
get to Aruak City."
Skaithvarn:
Shania Silverstar did her best to be patient, but it seemed to be taking Ashon
Chang so LONG to negotiate with the ship captain! She glanced around at her
companions, wondering if she could have organized her resources better for this
frantic rush back to Alastari. No, probably not.
Vurand and Jammies were keeping both eyes on Herlas; the Fratsfan mage hadn't
given them any trouble...yet, but he might. He would, when he thought he had a
chance to win. Werre was organizing their luggage and supplies (desperately slim
now) as fast as they were off-loaded from the mules. Zakar...she didn't know what
Zakar was doing, and she wasn't sure she wanted to. He was on their side, more or
less, but...today had seemed to be a "less" day. And Rughal was at her side,
supporting her as weariness ate at her bones.
Ashon Chang was gesturing them forward to the ship. Before Shania could gather
her strength to walk, Rughal lifted her and carried her down the dock. "It is
agreed," Ashon Chang said. "This man, Kaldinar, will sail us across the Trier to
Zorpunt."

DUELMASTER'S COLUMN
Notes from the arena champ.
Greetings, fellow warriors of the greatest arena in all Alastari! It is I, Ilsa
She-Wolf, your proud and deserving new Duelmaster. First off, thank you's to Judge
and Flat Tax for not avoiding. Looks like your near Advanced Master in attack does
no good when you have no defense.
Challenges here and challenges there. This week's lucky warrior is Terminator.
Here's your chance to back up that flappin' mouth from a turn ago. In case you are
avoiding (which I wouldn't doubt), Flat Tax gets the rematch. Guess that means that
if No Hurry decides to get in a hurry he can have a title shot. Either way, I don't
think any of those three can beat me, so I'll be looking forward to writing this
column again next turn.
Well, Kellumbo tells me to keep this short as we just finished getting back from
the tourney. Until next week, remember, it's Kellumbo's Kids #676. Just put it in
your wish to avoid and save yourself some headaches.

SPY REPORT
Busy, busy, busy, lots of things happening in SOLVEN this turn, and let's start
with a look at some of the teams. CHINESE CONNECTION stable has parlayed this turn's
3-2-0 into a 4 space move up the rankings. This brings them up to 8th place. Good
work, guys! The JUST CHILLIN guild has had a 3-1-0 turn and deserves to be watched
in the future. You never know where this kind of thing can lead. GANGREL has lost
to LUBIA' MEI', falling 17 points, while helping make WHITE WOLF a 1-3-0 turn. The
attempts to dethrone the Duelmaster have failed, and ILSA SHE-WOLF remains SOLVEN's
top warrior for another turn. By the way, was that our Duelmaster that I saw last
night, cramped under the table at The Victory Tavern?
The crowd's roar, the smell of iron and leather, mixed with sweat, what more
could a warrior ask of life? Well, besides that. I also notice that the THE POISON
CLAN stable was the most avoided team this turn. Come on SOLVEN, what are you afraid
of? And guess who avoided THE POISON CLAN stable the most? Believe it or not, it
was SAVAGE HEARTS 2. Anyone surprised? The most challenged warrior this turn was
JUST CHILLIN's warrior MAYBE LATER. More fighters challenged her than challenged the
Duelmaster! Tsk, tsk, tsk. SNAKE CHARMER, does your manager know you're challenging
down 29 points to fight JER BER from K FORCE? I thought challenges were for
warriors, not cowards looking for easy wins. SNAKE CHARMER won victory over JER BER,
is nothing sacred? I don't know about you, but JESSICA challenging down 20 points to
THE ZOO's ARISHTARTE, is not really worthy of KELLUMBO'S KIDS. It pains me to see
warriors take advantage of the system like this. JESSICA won victory over
ARISHTARTE, as if it surprises anyone. In a brave attempt, ACHILLES from SAVAGE
HEARTS 2 challenged up 20 points to fight LING' LON from the CHINESE CONNECTION
stable. ACHILLES perhaps got his just desserts, seeing as he defeated LING' LON and
ended up with 26 recognition points.
The Dark Arena is for those who cannot win, not who cannot lose with grace.
Dignity in life or death is the warrior's creed. Kudos go out to WHAT UP this turn,
for revenging JUST CHILLIN's bloodfeud against K FORCE's warrior ARLS. Well done.
Is it really true that SOLVEN has more dishwashers per capita that fighters? Just
thought I'd ask...
Thought for the day, a new sword shines bright, but the notched sword sings the
sweetest. Well, I'm burning daylight here in SOLVEN and I've a long road ahead of
me. Happy Trails. Until you see my quill in SOLVEN again, farewell-- Alarond the

Arls -- Bad move, now you have to pay. -- Mr. Freeze
Al Gore -- Um, about that bloodfeud...Lasombra up and got himself killed at the
face...so um...no bloodfeud.... I was actually looking forward to it. Honestly,
when I filled them out a month ago and then missed the turn, I don't remember it
being that much of a downchallenge, I just picked them up and mailed them in; I
didn't relook at the challenge part. I'm just going to have to hold off a bit on
bitchin' about the downchallenging around here. -- Assamite
Al Gore -- Wow, what a relief. You're going to turn your one good eye on someone
else. Whew, thanks. -- Master Tazo, Master of the overstated Sarcasm style
P.S. I don't know what the Spy Report was talking about; I wasn't avoiding you. I
just asked the commission if I could be spared the tedium of your company, and inept
flailing of your fighters.
Flat Tax -- You think you'd learn to fill in the wish to avoid section.... Thanks
for the title shot though. -- Ilsa She Wooooooooolllllllllfffffffffffffff!!!!!!!!!!!
Savage Dragon -- If that's your idea of savage, I really am starting to understand
why your team loses so much. -- Snake Charmer, a.k.a. Dragon Charmer
Atilla -- Haven't you learned anything? -- Jessica
Judge -- My large shields and downchallenges are already in Aruak City. So, besides
you, oh...and Sentinel who fights here once every blue moon, and someone named
Lorona, no one lese cares about how I fight. Maybe we can ask the commission if we
can officially change this to a Delarquan arena. -- Detective Kellumbo
All -- Please welcome Kellumbo's Kids' newest warrior, Name Dropper! That's right,
he was trained by Doc Steele and learned all about scumming by Manager, so look out!
-- DK
K Force -- You must be the smart one of the group because that "Duhtective" personal
was funnnnnyyyyy! -- Duhtective Kellumbo
Maybe next time, next time. -- Arls
D.O.A. Dominance -- You aren't supposed to do that. Being an oxymoron, you're
supposed to LOSE the fight, not dominate it. Pay attention to these details.
They're important. -- Zooie
The Scorpion -- You loomed over me. I hate that. It makes me horribly tense, and
when I'm tense, I do really nasty things, practically by accident. So next time,
either get down on your knees so as not to loom, or just lie down at the beginning of
the fight. It'll be simpler all around. -- Kalamazoo
Bong Hits 4 Jesus -- How come the drug testing didn't catch you? You were so, um,
elevated? Or whatever, that even being near you was enough to make me dizzy. And,
gee, what a surprise, when I'm dizzy, I can't fight worth a plugged nickel, much less
an un-plugged nickel. -- Arishtarte
Tax Deduction -- Does the fact that you're a dwarf mean that any such deduction that
comes down the pike (much less those that come down the halberd) will be a small one?
Can I enter a protest? I want the next tax deduction to be a whopping big Shew. --
Kiwira

I am currently trying to put together a favorites chart for AD warriors. I
desperately need help with this. What I need are style, favorite rhythm (ex.:
hi/low), favorite weapons, and tactics. What would be great is if you could send me
a copy of the invite with the warrior's name, id#, and arena blacked out. This way,
I can verify that this is an actual warrior. Minis will work, too!
For those interested, I have both a challenge style vs. style and a match-up style
vs. style chart. There's about 250 fights calculated in these charts, and I'll be
happy to send a copy to anyone who asks. You can contact me (if you're a free world
player) at: Rick Stringer, Merit/East, SCI, P.O. Box 500, Georgetown, DE 19947-0500.
If you're in prison, just send a diplo to: Baphomet, Mgr. Knights Templar (568), DM
#47--North Fork. (I also have a lot of other charts and info for anyone who wants
