A little faster, a little more shrill. There had been a lot of earth tremors lately, and in one way, people were getting used to them. Nobody rushed outside in alarm. Nobody talked about moving to some other area. There was a betting pool on when the next tremor would occur. But in another way, they weren't getting used to them at all. Earthquakes in Aruak City were WRONG. In Seam, okay, if they were mild and didn't happen very often (although lately they had been frequent and devastating). You expected strange earth movements in Seam, because of the hot springs. Hot springs meant things like that might happen. But not HERE. "It's because of Krael rising," explained Thermodynamics, a gladiator from Point passing through the city. "The balances are disturbed. You see, Krael came from the bottom of the Trier, which is very cold. Therefore, some place else has to become very hot to balance it." He paused and frowned. "Or maybe some other place has to sink, a down to balance the new up, so to speak." Adeolar, listening to him, sighed with exasperation. "It isn't that," she muttered. "Oh, maybe the bit about some other area sinking to balance the rising of Krael--I've got people watching for that, all along the coast. But the 'hot and cold' business--" "Let him talk," Kennelworth said, gauging the mood of the crowd. "It's an explanation people can accept, and they'll feel less alarmed by it. We don't want a riot, and there's nothing they can do about things right now, so...?" He looked back at the flame-haired manager. "There isn't anything, is there?" Adie grimaced. "I don't know. I don't think stopping Khaldren in Zorpunt will be enough to stop what's happening, now. The spell he started has taken on a life of its own. I'm trying to discover a counterspell--that won't make things worse in some other way! But until then, just...treat the symptoms. Fight the monsters, help the people displaced," she shrugged, "the obvious things. And keep arena deaths down, because the blood feeds the spell." She began to twist a lock of hair around her finger, tugging on it thoughtfully. "I've been thinking about a counterspell. The original magic came from Krael, however it got to the present. Maybe the counterspell can be found there." "Searching Krael for the spell that would sink it again will be dangerous," the old innkeeper and manager warned. "The reports say that there are people there who are ready to defend it." "That's what gladiators are for, isn't it?" Adie asked. "Protecting Alastari. Stopping this spell that is bringing the past to life falls under that heading." Iaye: Great Dane looked over the improvised barricade that divided the island of Iaye from the risen city of Krael and whistled. "You said they were regular people," he commented, scanning the muddy approach. "Those are, I guess they're zombies." Goff shrugged. "I guess the regular people I saw when the city first rose were wizards, at least some of them. And there must have been plenty of dead around for them to turn into zombies. Damn. How do you kill something that's already dead?" Great Dane glanced back at the people straggling toward the barricade from Iaye's side. "That isn't going to be our first problem. The first one is, how do we get our defenders to stand fast against them? Those are fishermen, farmers, shopkeepers. You think they're going to fight zombies?" "Gladiators, too," Goff protested. "Not enough, if the wizard in charge of those zombies knows anything about battle." * }%|[-----+O+-----]|%{ * }%|[-----+O+-----]|%{ * }%|[-----+O+-----]|%{ * ---===ANDORIAN REGIONAL NEWS===--- Duelmasters ----------- DM 8 ARKERS (turn 242): CLOSED MIND of BLACKTHORN ORCS (Slugbait, mgr.) SPY REPORT Oh, hi. Its just little 'ol Debby Tonte. Thought I'd check out ZORPUNT to see what's new. MVP award for CROCONAW? WATER DECK's proud of him after beating KUNG-FU MASTER and getting 16 points. Talk about yer big time losers! WARTORTLE got smashed by ORESTES, and lost 8 points! Don't you think the Duelmaster is being unfair? I think KID ROCK should let KUNG-FU MASTER be Duelmaster for a while, without fighting about it. Who was the wiseguy that said ZORPUNT's Duelmaster was paying for drinks at The Swinging Aardvark? Don't look at me! Look, you guys stick to fighting, all right? The warriors of 13 YRS & COUNTING must be getting lonely. They were the most avoided team. Do you guys know something that I don't? I don't know what WATER DECK's been doing. They certainly haven't been accepting many fights from 13 YRS & COUNTING, that's fer sher. Like, is TOMBO LARK popular, or what? He was challenged the most in all of ZORPUNT! He's got a 7-11-0, is that good? Challenges, revenges, Bloodfeuds. All ZORPUNT ever talks about is fighting! Me, I'm more laid back. Fight, fight, fight. Is that all you guys can do? I really didn't, you know, study when I was a kid. Who would've guessed I'd be a famous Spyreporter? I gotta leave. ZORPUNT is like such a dump, and you guys smell too much! Its been really albendranius! You musta been pretty sloshed when you thought of that one. -- Darkfist Darkfist -- I appreciate you sharing your opinion to my warriors (Goldeen and Wartortle in this case) on how they should prepare for their future battles. I'm sure that Goldeen and the rest of the squad will take your thoughts into consideration before next stepping onto the sands, risking life and limb against warriors who wish to defeat/maim/murder them, while you sit in the stands sipping a cool drink. Let me share a few truths with you.... 1. "Us guys" do not all aim for the head going for kills. Sometimes yes, but not always. If you look back at my history as a manager you'll find few managers who have a lower kill percentage--so please use fewer generalizations, or get the facts before your state your opinions. 2. I'm not interested in fighting by your rules, but rather prefer to fight by mine. I'm not a big downchallenger, but I do try to seize an advantage when I see it. I'm also not big on high kill desire as I think the warrior gives up some overall ability if actively seeking to kill. Goldeen had 6 KD in both kills, Croconaw was at 5 in his kill. You were right on one thing though, Pine Leaf did not teach Krabby anywhere near as well as Jessie taught Goldeen.... 3. If I kill one of your warriors I would expect a bloodfeud, though personally I will not bloodfeud unless I think I can either win, or benefit skill-wise. If someone down-bloodfeuds me four times in a row, I respect that as it is their right-- but I will not forget and like you, would seek retribution for that. I don't mean to show disrespect to you, you've earned the right to speak however you want to whomever you want in this arena because of your seniority here, a trait that I deeply respect (I've always been more of an arena manager than a tourney manager). That being said, back up off of us until we do something that deserves your wrath. Death is part of the game that we all deal with--that is why they have dead tourneys.... -- Destitute Noble (mgr. Water Deck) P.S. Anyone who gets killed by a Pokemon creature deserves whatever they get.... Kid Rock -- So I understand you're a cowboy babeeee?! I wonder if I can challenge you from way down here if no one between us fights.... -- Croconaw Little Girl Crush -- You're the STRANGEST little girl I ever met, and I don't want to meet you again. Go away. -- Teller Flete P.S. I am NOT a midget! I am actually a lot taller than I look, but my posture's bad. Captain Insano -- Does that name mean you're insane? Not that it would be a problem if you were, just asking. After all, lots of us gladiators are insane by the standards of non-gladiators. -- Tombo Lark E.I. Doh! -- You ever get the feeling that your manager doesn't really think much of you? -- Joe Poole P.S. I don't know if you'll make a gladiator, but you're a cute little thing. How about dinner? Krabby -- Sweeten up, now, be good! -- Pine Leaf Surely no one can suppose I would have yielded to an Embezzler! I have standards. -- Limpette 18 March 2004 St. Valentine's Day Massacre Update We are pleased to announce that the kLk sponsored St. Valentine's Day Massacre kill contest in DM 36 is off to a great start. We are also pleased to announce that in addition to the 10 team rollups we are also able to offer the renaming of a dark arena warrior as a prize to the manager with the most kills. The contest is only 2 turns old and is still wide open. There are currently 5 managers tied with one kill each. Anything can still happen so hurry up and get into the arena. On a personal note, no other alliances have entered the arena in force to challenge the kLk dominance. We were expecting The Firm to put up a fight for their supposed home arena. But, they were a no show. Guess they proved what they are really made of. *evil grin* Perhaps another alliance would like to step in to give us a challenge. We are throwing down the gauntlet. Perhaps the Chaos Inc. boys I keep hearing about would like to step in and challenge the kLk for arena dominance. If you don't show up, Chaos, don't feel bad. FAR better managers than you have been invited into Jhans but have chosen to pass on the offer. So if you consider yourself worthy to compete, like fierce competition, and enjoy arenas where the personals are as fierce as the fighting, come visit JHANS DM 36. We're already planning our next contest, "Capture the Flag," and have a storyline being actively worked on in the arena. Whatever you like about DM you can find it in JHANS. Bookie mgr. of Suicidal Dreams and Director Jhans Board of Tourism kLk Alliance 27 March 2004 This notice is to inform the DM world that CHAOS INC. has added CHEETO to its ranks. He joins APEX, FLAGG, MATRIX, ASSAMITE, and RUDE BUDDHA as the 6th member. May your chaotic wings spread disaster and CHAOS for all your days! Welcome CHEETO!! 27 March 2004 Has anyone seen it in print that the "Goat" is leaving the "Cartel"? There were some diplos to the effect of a special branch of the Cartel being formed, like secret societies, governmental agencies and alliances certain agendas are developed. To obtain the desired effect of any agenda only key personnel can be used. The "Goat" is "Cartel" so until you see it with me announcing that I am not Cartel, remember, "The Agenda of the Core is for you to fight for." I hope this stops the confusion. -- Goat 8 April 2004 CLICK (KLK) -- Remember, you asked for it. Chaos is coming.... 14 April 2004 CHAOS Inc. proudly announces our newest member, Silver Stroke. He becomes the seventh brother of Chaos. We shall indeed be better for his joining. LAST WEEK'S FIGHTS KRABBY was dealt death by BLACK ORC in a 1 minute bloody Dark Arena fight.
