                                 DUELMASTER'S COLUMN
                             Notes from the arena champ.

Felaweshipe -- I went in thinking to myself that I needed to take advantage of the
first opportunity you gave me and when you over extended your weapon, I knew it was
then or never. I still believe if we fought ten times, you'd easily have the
advantage. You're a fine warrior and I'm honored to have shared the sands with you.

For me, it is off to retirement after a night fight. Here is what the commission
says about me:

9(1)-14(1)-9-17-21-5-11 WOS, Good End, Good Dmg
Skills at 28/9/27/25/15/19, mode as mode can be
Favorites: MO/MO MS, learning Decise.
29 FE, 9-9 all time tourney record.

I'm getting a great retirement package from Assur, though, and I'm gonna build a
wonderful mansion on my land. Anyone is welcome to come, anytime, and we'll have a
grand old time reminiscing and living the high life. Nothing but the best for me and
my friends, which is all of you!

Stayed Home

*************************************
notes from Assur -- Lyratilan, where have you gone? After I took over management of
this stable (From Zalgor Prigg, hence the new stable name), I entered the sands on
turn 437. On that turn, 23 teams were listed in the ranks, including many old timers
whose home is here in Lyratilan. But now, my stable has the smallest id number, the
personals ads are dominated by Nick and I (seems all to common these days), and this
once thriving arena looks on the verge of collapse.

Perhaps I've poisoned the arena, bringing my Delarquan management style here, but I
really don't believe so. For while I'm a Delarq, through and through, my respect for
others comes before that and I've more than once changed my management style because
someone put forward a reasonable request.

'Tis unfortunate, for Lyratilan was once one of the premiere arenas. Now, it is a
shell!

                                      SPY REPORT

Well, what are you looking at, LYRATILAN? Ain't you never seen Snide Clemens
before? Ah, shaddup and listen to my news. Now keep the taverns open late tonight,
for there are sorrows to drown for SPONGMONKEYS, whose 0-1-0 this turn dropped them
by 4 into 10th. Ha! Of course, we're all terribly impressed to see JAGA win a fight
and gain 19 points, terribly. Tsk, tsk, FOOL? beat ANN R. KIST and ANN R. KIST lost
13 points. You're breakin' my heart. Going for broke or broken, our Duelmaster
F'LYARR Dark Arena Challenged this turn. And if variety is the spice of life,
LYRATILAN may be getting bland, as STAYED HOME stays top dog in the city. I'm not in
a very good mood today, but why am I telling you this? You want to know what's new,
don't you, LYRATILAN?
My mother always told me, 'If you don't have anything nice to say, start
talking.' I loved that woman. LYRATILAN, I am losing what little hope I had in you.
CHAUCERS WORDS the most avoided team? What insult will suffice, I cannot say. And
it looks like SPONGMONKEYS avoided them the most this turn. What a pack of would be
losers, if you ask me. Hmph.
Some people like volunteer work in the hospitals. I volunteer for LYRATILAN's
morgue. More variety. THIS LITTLE PRIGGY has cause to pause today, as STAYED HOME
was sent to the Dark Arena, and came back--though not in the best of moods, I'll
wager. And what a stunning loss we have here, boys and girls, CHEETARA of
THUNDERCATS has added the final loss to hers 7-13-0. Tee hee! Honor is like a
chainmail shirt, it only shines through use. Certain nameless cowards will doubtless
rebuke me on this one.
I was about to buy a new quill pen the other day, but some fighter took it for
an epee. Forgive me for writing with a dagger. Just wait 'till next time I show up
here, I won't be so nice! So nyaaah! I see the crowds are getting restless, I must
leave now-- Snide Clemens

The sooner I don't see any ass calling himself a "noble" assassin, the happier I'll
be. What a crock! I don't say assassination doesn't require courage, up to a point,
and I don't say it isn't the simplest way to deal with a problem sometimes, but I do
NOT say that a man who kills for hire, probably from an ambush or by other sorts of
stealth, is noble in regard to his profession. Which is to say that I think "noble
assassin" is an oxymoron, and I would gladly have killed the wretch, but the
arenamaster, a celebrated bleeding-heart, stepped in at the inopportune moment and
threw the win to HIM. Gods. It makes you wonder who's getting paid what under the
table! -- Bron Chollu the Seriously Annoyed
P.S. It's a matter of principle.
P.P.S. If I could challenge that stinker, I WOULD.

Struckbylightning -- Wow, looks like they've got YOU coming and going. -- Quia Salian

Captain Lockheed -- So, what'd you do to get "branded & exiled"? Inquiring minds
want to know. -- Velond Wok

Terry Donahue -- You're a scimitar? Coulda fooled me! -- Calli Geier

Golden Domer -- Oh, gods, count on an Orc to go burying me in the sand. No couth,
you Orcs. -- Beltran Foss the sandy and upset

Congratulations to Stayed Home! -- the Middle Way

Scum Devil -- My hand practically FELL OFF waiting for you to do the decent thing and
give me a fiver. -- Polite Beggar

John Robinson -- Do not expect any friendly concessions next time you double-park
your horse, sir! -- A Formerly Friendly Constable

Marcus Allen and Valium Ten -- Damned unfair of you to double up on me like that! --
a Volunteer who simply had something in his eye and shouldn't be judged for it

Jiminy Cricket -- We salute you for your appropriate handling of the Jaywalker. Some
people never learn. -- Arenamaster Jyo

M1 Abrams -- Is that weapon allowed in the arena? If so, I want one. -- an eager
Guard

Bron Chollu -- Consider yourself fortunate that I didn't kill you, just for the
practice. -- the Noblest Assassin in town
