TEAM SPOTLIGHT
Team Profile: Fantasia Isle
Some say they were banished, some say they were ashamed of the stage names they
were given, and others say they were just lost, but most agree they don't care where
Fantasia Isle was during their 20 year hiatus from Lyratilan.
While 20 years sounds like a long time to be gone from the arena sands, imagine
if that time away was spent meticulously watching, studying and cataloging the
fighting habits of every prominent warrior in Lyratilan. Every sword that is broken
and every gladiator who wears down their competition by exhaustion adds another
statistic to the ultimate compendium of knowing thy competition. And while this type
of extensive analysis is fun to imagine, it sadly wasn't the case. In fact, during
their departure Fantasia Isle was so far removed from the world of gladiatoring, they
referred to their previous vocation as "gladiatoring".
So why have they returned? Because they owe my boss money and this is how
they're going to work off their debt (keep in mind that we don't always bet on our
own). It also explains why they've got me as a manager...my boss didn't want to
shell out the extra coins for Lord Xiang, JGR or one of those other managers who
believe fighting involves such bizarre concepts as "strategy" and "winning". Nope,
they got me whose motto is the less armor and weapons you use, the cheaper you are to
compete and dispose of. Of course, I'm no slouch on the training front...just check
out my record in Arkers and you'll see that I've only lost one fight to date in my
entire career.
Keep in mind that Fantasia Isle is just one of the teams I manage and "train",
with the following under my belt as well: Dead For Hire (Arkers), Dire Fate (Aruak
City), Voodoo Zoo Etc. (Chimlevtal) and House of Rats (Jhans), three of which took
the top Career Win-Loss spots on their recent returns. Collectively, I refer to them
as the Institute of Wreckology (or Breakneckology, but the latter didn't fit on the
stable crest). I also have a new team heading to Mordant for the Olympics...they'll
be the ones with the crutches.
As geriatric as my warriors are, we hope to bring back the action and excitement
of the good old days, even if it means taking a fall or two to boost the egos of our
opponents...and there's been plenty of boosting lately.
Rust in peace,
SwineTiger

DUELMASTER'S COLUMN
Notes from the arena champ.
Well, three turns at the top and it's time for me to go. I shed some blood
during my stay here, but not enough to actually slay anybody. How unfortunate.
Anyway, I am my manager's first slasher to move on to ADM. Ironically, I was gotten
as a replacement for Sabotage, a slasher who was well on his way to graduation when
he was killed off in the Champions tournament a few tournaments ago. My manager had
me working out to get stronger recently to at least be able to hold up a scimitar.
It seems I've always admired the great axe but haven't been allowed to use it in
battle. I also like to attack A LOT as long as I don't have to move around at all.
I've been told that I am aggressive by nature making me so good at those initiative
routines.
My fighting career is almost over. Carnage says I am not quite good enough to
try to go all the way to Primus, but he feels that he should give me a chance to
fight in a few of the "Freshman" tournaments and see how I do. I don't think I will
like this ADM thing because A. Most of the blood that will be shed will most likely
be my own and B. Some crazy woman puts all the blood back into a warrior if they
die!
Even though that silly lunger Theodoric managed to get to the Duelmaster throne
some fifteen or so turns before I did, I get the invite first. I suspect he will be
joining me at the Isle soon, needing only one more victory. Jocko and Tinkerbell
have the upper hand in taking the DM throne after I leave. Good luck to the two of
you.

SPY REPORT
It is I, Novgorodny Vir, Spymaster of Spymasters. Look on my work, ye mighty,
and despair! Practice pays for BIG JOY, who pummelled BELTRAN FOSS, to pocket 23
points. Win some, lose some. Speaking of which, CASS TRAITOR was winsome, after
beating BABY SMURF and seeing him lose 6 points. Those who hoped for a new
Duelmaster were disappointed by QUIA SALIAN, of THE MIDDLE WAY 4, who despite a
17-29-0 couldn't overcome LYRATILAN's Number 1. Word has it one team in LYRATILAN is
taking speech lessons to try to bore their opponent to death. I'll bet it works.
So much to report, so little time! Like a horde of jackals fleeing from the
lion, so did the "warriors" in LYRATILAN avoid ERRATA. Like a pup with its tail
between its legs, FANTASIA ISLE scurried away from ERRATA. Oh, the shame! If
challenges were horses, DAVIA HANNAS could open up a fast food joint!
Is there life after death? Pragmatics (and warriors) know there is death after
life! BLOODSHED of MADTOWN spared QUIA SALIAN (17-29-0) from having to lose any more
fights. What's your next plan, THE MIDDLE WAY 4? Perhaps LYRATILAN were the only
ones left untouched by TINKERBELL demise. Can anyone ever take hers place? Or do I
exaggerate? A moment of silence for QUIA SALIAN, who died an untimely death at the
hands of BLOODSHED. In the spirit of revenge, we call upon THE MIDDLE WAY 4 to act!
Charity is unknown in LYRATILAN, and rightly so. ERRATA exacted their revenge
against THE MIDDLE WAY 4. Ask not for whom the sword slashes; it slashes for thee.
Do not think spyreporting in LYRATILAN is the highlight of my life. Keep those
sands bloody and the buzzards fat! Can anything compare to the pleasure of writing
Spyreports for LYRATILAN? On that giddy note I take my leave-- Novgorodny Vir

Beltran Foss -- Dont seem like peopl like r dual. I am sorry but boss want me too
dual u again. He says u r good teecher. quia guy mite be ok teacher to. mini fite
gainst midway in future. -- Giglie
Jungle Jim -- I don't want my challenges to reflect poorly on me, I like to pick my
fights and with nobody above me to challenge, they have to be directed downwards.
After three turns of disappointing skill learns, you taught me many a valuable
lesson. I'm apologizing in advance for having another go at it. You are a worthy
adversary, you teach well, and my manager is experimenting with different techniques
for warriors of my style fighting warriors of your style. -- Tinkerbell
Please let me get that 14th win. One moment I'm 10-5-2 and the Duelmaster, next
minute I'm 13-12-2 because of having to fight Velond too many times and that
extremely dangerous Kung-Fu Master. If he was a Kung-Fu Advanced Expert, that would
be fine. I shudder to think what Kung-Fu Grandmaster would do to me. -- Theodoric
Theodoric -- If you were a real warrior, you would not fear Kung-Fu Master. That
whole lot is easy pickings for me. Someday the people of Lyratilan will chant the
praises of Jocko, a brave warrior who fearlessly faced and defeated Kung-Fu Master,
Virginal Concubine, Veteran Mercenary, M. Chardinee, and Friendly Constable during
his epic rise to greatness. -- Jocko, who seems to have forgotten what it is like to
fight a non-npc
Leeta -- In all seriousness, I'm not much of a tournament manager, but a particular
extremely unintelligent warrior of mine has a chance to do well later on in his
career. Fighting Quia Salian and Beltran Foss seems to help him improve at an
alarming rate. I hope you don't take offense if I, uhm, try to match him up often
against your warriors. -- Carnage
Giglie -- Oh, it's you. Guess why I'm not thrilled. -- Beltran Foss
Grape Ape -- You can't be an ape, because you're a werewolf. The two are
incompatible, surely? -- Quia Salian
Flex -- Yes, and when you flex those lips back from your fangs, it's enough to put
anyone off! -- Xeno Yohl
Sealant -- A kind of duck tape, perhaps? -- Davia Hannas
Great Pumkin -- You're long overdue to be made into pie. -- Erhlie Fay
Ghost of Sealant -- Heck, I just realized that you died. Sorry about that. -- Davia
Hannas
P.S. Although it WAS your challenge.
Ed. -- I believe I'll take the Fifth on that one. -- Leeta
I hope it's good Scotch, then. -- Ed.

To all those lookin' for some easy pickins: I, Elfwine, manager of The Shallowship,
the most feared team in all of Jhelum, invite all who seek wide open spaces for pubs
and other such establishments of limited debauchery, to visit this deserted city and
help me clear up some of the dust. I'm just about ready to have my guys face off
against each other to get some new action. Guess I'd better join a tournament or
something...hmmmm, there's a thought.
