Andor:
Herlas glanced at the assassins out of the corner of his eye. The one in silk
had a slight smile; the one who looked like a peasant had no expression at all. Both
were staying close, right on the edge of earshot distance, as in "maybe they can hear
what we say, and maybe not." If he had been Korneth, the Zensovian would have picked
the assassins with the best hearing he could find and had them at just such a
distance. After all, they'd been trained to double as spies in the old days when the
kings of Andoria had protected their guild. Which meant no talking private with
Fireblade during the rest of this parade. And would the assassins keep with them
afterward? If Korneth's trust in him had fallen that far, Herlas figured it might be
time to put his ultimate contingency plan into motion.
He slid his glance toward the redhaired Lady Knight riding beside him. She
raised an eyebrow, then glanced toward the assassins and shook her head slightly.
What, did she think him such a fool that he would talk where he could be overheard?
He reined in annoyance. He'd been a big enough fool over this business already, why
might she not fear he would continue so? Why was it the only interesting women he'd
met could see that he was a fool and a blackguard? It was enough to depress a man.
The parade which had seemed endless looped back to the palace and ended. Lady
Knight Fireblade made another tiny, cryptic gesture and just... rode off! What did
she mean by it? Why did he care? He'd been playing out a lone hand so far, why did
he suddenly yearn for an ally? Herlas shook his head, hoping to shake out strange
notions, glanced at his assassin shadows, and rode toward the lodge on the edge of
the palace grounds where he was currently living.
***** *** ***** *** *****
Crystal Fireblade knocked on his door just after full dark. The front door, and
she knocked openly. Herlas looked past her gray-cloaked form into the rainy
darkness, then nodded. "Did anyone follow you?"
"I think not, though it's difficult to be sure." She shrugged out of the cloak
which had concealed her mail, the hood that had covered her flame-colored hair. "We
must take action of some kind, and soon," she said. "You know that." At his nod,
she went on, "Have you thought what kind of action? The lost king must be replaced,
and this Korneth of Sengir must be eliminated. But who the first, how the second?"
"Alonj of Fratsfa for the first," Herlas said. He indicated two chairs drawn up
to his fire, welcome on this wet night. The Convincians will accept him as a
legitimate ruler, the Fratsfan will accept no one else. The Baron of Ardivent is too
far away, and nobody knows which way the Clanholds of the Aruaki will go these days,
they are too disorganized within themselves."
"Raltumas?"
"Not of immediate concern. The defection of Aradi has weakened them, and they
were never as coherent as other parts of the League."
"And what of Korneth? He will block any attempt to put Alonj--or anyone other
than himself--on the throne. It is my feeling that he will be hard to dispose of."
"Mine, too. There were those assassins early today, a rather pointed message, I
thought."
"Yes. Where are they now?" Fireblade glanced around as though she expected to
see them in some corner of the room.
Herlas smiled. "Posted in quite likely places, watching intently and seeing...
very little. Bats or whatever moves around at night. If those two are all Korneth
set to watching me, as I hope because he can't have many at his call yet, then we are
safe enough for now. Later... probably not."
Crystal Fireblade frowned. "Should we leave Andor, get to where he can't spy on
us, do you think?"
The magician got up and began pacing, tapping his fingers against each other
behind his back. After several minutes, he said, "No, I don't think so. True, we're
at risk of spying if we remain here, but once we move away from the center of the
action, we would need to find spies ourselves or lose touch with what's going on. My
feeling is that we need to know what is going on here, at least until we've dealt
with Korneth."
"I take your point, but what about Alonj of Fratsfa? Not only do we--or
someone--have to tell him that he must take over governance of the League, he must be
protected. Korneth is surely as able as we are to see that Alonj is the obvious
replacement for the vanished king."
Herlas barked a laugh. "Have you met Alonj's Adantri wife? I have, and I would
not want to be an assassin trying to get past her!"

SPY REPORT
Good day, in LYRATILAN a quiet thief gets rich, but a quiet spymaster gets poor.
So bring me ale and harken to my tidbits of news. And let's see, HOLMER KEYES fought
STEVIE BEE and gained 13 points and contributed to THE MIDDLE WAY 4's 4-1-1. ELINDOR
IMARDA has lost to PHIL ANDERER, falling 8 points, while helping make THE MIDDLE WAY
4 a 4-1-1 turn. This turn STAN DAUFF challenged MISS SCARLET in what was LYRATILAN's
Title bout. Defending his title for another turn, STAN DAUFF kept GOTTA GET A CLUE's
warrior, MISS SCARLET, from claiming the throne. By the way, was that our Duelmaster
that I saw last night, cramped under the table at The Mourngrym Inn and Tavern?
The crowd's roar, the smell of iron and leather, mixed with sweat, what more
could a warrior ask of life? Well, besides that. I also notice that the THE MIDDLE
WAY 4 stable was the most avoided team this turn. Come on LYRATILAN, what are you
afraid of? And guess who avoided THE MIDDLE WAY 4 stable the most? Believe it or
not, it was FUNKY FOLK. Anyone surprised? Well, sports fans, take notice that
ELINDOR IMARDA from THE MIDDLE WAY 4 was LYRATILAN's most challenged warrior this
turn.
We only live a short time in this world, so why not take a sharp blade, and
shave it close? Is it really true that LYRATILAN has more dishwashers per capita
that fighters? Just thought I'd ask...
I like this place, LYRATILAN, the taverns have old wine, and young serving
girls. Who could ask for more? It's been nice chatting with you, until we meet
again, keep your swords sharp and your hammers heavy. Until you see my quill in
LYRATILAN again, farewell-- Alarond the Scribe

Phil Anderer -- And does your wife give you ned about it? Mine did, until I became a
vampire and, um, saw to it that she wouldn't ever nag me again. Because she just
wouldn't listen when I told her, as you have obviously told yours, that it was an act
of purest philanthropy. All those women, you know, not getting properly appreciated.
For some reason, though men have no difficult with that viewpoint, I have yet to
encounter a woman that will accept it. Too bad there's no third gender we could turn
to, eh? -- X. Rolph Tupp
Stan Dauff -- You're no fun at all on a date, you hold back too much, won't even put
your arm around a woman on a chilly evening. How can you expect to have any fun if
you're so reserved? Warm up a little. -- Elindor Imarda
Miss Scarlet -- Is it my imagination? (pause to check) No, we just DID this. Miss
Scarlet on the Sands with the Veritable Wall of Blades. Ouch. I could do without
it, you know? How about, just for a change, Miss Scarlet in the Library with a
Really Boring Anecdote? -- Trellin Xiss
Worker Bee -- I figure you're some kind of freak, and my momma always told me to
avoid freaks, because you never know what they might get up to. How right she was!
You really didn't need to sting me in that last place. -- Holmer Keyes
This whole "Polite Beggar" thing puzzles me. I would think that the very act of
begging would be impolite, so all he can do is cringe and whine you come down to it.
Cringing and whining don't move me at all. -- Griflet Irvel

*TURF WAR VI RULES*
Starting Nov 2008 (10 turns)
Anyone may participate; known alliances, new alliances, or temporary alliances
created solely to compete in the Turf War! To participate, each alliance must:
1. Announce the alliance and the Captain of the alliance in the North Fork
(DM 47) newsletter.
2. Announcements made on the D2 Forums will not be accepted.
Captains are responsible for:
1. Verifying those who wish to participate under the banner of their
alliance;
2. Distribution of prizes should their alliance win the Turf War.
3. Submit one (1) RSI Roll-Up Certificate to participate
Participating managers who are not Captains must:
1. Submit one (1) RSI Roll-Up Certificate to participate
2. Announce their intent to compete with manager name, team name, and
alliance they will represent in the North Fork (DM 47) newsletter.
Announcement made on the D2 Forums will not be accepted.
a. No scores will be tabulated until a Gift Certificate is received.
No EXCEPTIONS.
b. Before a manager can compete, he/she must declare themselves in
the North Fork (DM 47) newsletter as stated above AND be verified
by the alliance Captain they will represent.
c. Only one (1) team per player may compete. No multiple teams or
aliases will be allowed. Violations will result in immediate
disqualification from the Turf War (so be sure to take any
multiple teams OFF of Team Maintenance).
d. Scoring will NOT be retroactive for teams that do not properly
declare or fail to send a Gift Certificate by Turn 1. In other
words, if your Gift Certificate is not received until Turn 3 of
the Turf War, and you have fought on Turns 1 and 2, your scoring
will not begin until Turn 3. All conditions must be met before
scoring will begin--declaration, verification, and Gift
Certificate received.
e. No declarations or verifications will be accepted after Turn 5 of
the Turf War.
f. For purposes of scoring, the moderators will score the Turf War
and settle any and all disputes as they arise. Their decisions
will be final.

2. There is no limit to which warrior may bloodfeud or how often.
Tournament Considerations:

Fork turn 276 to the applicable teams).
Special Considerations:
1. Each alliance begins the Turf War with zero (0) points.
2. There will be NO alliance or team changes once the contest has begun. If
you begin the Turf War with Alliance A, you must end the Turf War with
Alliance A. If you begin the Turf War with Team A, you must end the Turf

The Turf War is a "winner take all" contest. All prizes and 100% of the Gift
Certificates will be awarded to the Captain of the winning alliance. It is the
responsibility of the Captain to distribute Gift Certificates. Moderators will
submit a list of each manager on the winning alliance to RSI at the completion of the
contest for the non-Certificate prizes.
The following prizes have been secured from RSI:
1. Renaming of the North Fork (DM 47) arena;
2. Renaming of Dark Arena Monsters (one for each manager in the winning
alliance);
3. Known Favorites for one warrior on each team of the winning alliance
(warrior must be ranked Initiate or above, must be alive, and must have
at least one arena fight to receive this award).
4. +1 Skill bonus potion for each manager on the winning alliance. Bonus

dealings during the course of the contest. Their decisions will be final. All
questions, comments, and scoring disputes may be directed to Land of Oz or Darque
Forces via diplo in DM 47. Managers with internet access may send a private message
to [The Consortium] or [Darque] on the Duel2 Forums. Lastly, you may also email
