DUELMASTER'S COLUMN
Notes from the arena champ.
Well, well, well, merry Christmas to me. Glad to see I could spoil Sapper's
holiday. That loss almost makes me feel like I belong in the Duelmaster's seat. I
guess we'll see what this week holds for El Grincho, Duelmaster of Caleam.
Out of curiosity, what is The Taken talking about with the whole 15-8 with no
AB's deal? For a warrior created over ten years ago, I think I am doing just fine.
Maybe pick up a few more wins and graduate at about 18-8 for a decent win percentage
in the arena.
I'm going to sign off now, boys and girls. It has been a busy week with that
whole stealing Christmas thing and all. I think I need a break. Maybe just a few
more fights in this arena and then I can coast into retirement.... I guess we'll
see.
Good luck on the sands, you few, proud warriors of Caleam.
-- Mr. Grinch
SPY REPORT
It is I, Novgorodny Vir, Spymaster of Spymasters. Look on my work, ye mighty,
and despair! Nothing works for a team like victory (How's that for a perceptive
observation?) as SHERWOOD FOREST can attest... Practice pays for RAZOR BACK, who
pummelled SINISTROPHOBIA, to pocket 26 points. Win some, lose some. Speaking of
which, RAZOR BACK was winsome, after beating SINISTROPHOBIA and seeing him lose 15
points. Well, Duelmaster MR. GRINCH challenged GOLDEN CANYON's SARINA. Is a 16-8-0
good enough? Those who hoped for a new Duelmaster were disappointed by SARINA, of
GOLDEN CANYON, who despite a 18-18-1 couldn't overcome CALEAM's Number 1. Word has
it one team in CALEAM is using psychics to predict wins. They lead a charmed life!
And how sociable are CALEAM's warriors? Come, let us see. To quell some nasty
rumors, the guys in WARCKERS are not carrying any incurable diseases. No need to
avoid 'em. The warriors of WARCKERS found their efforts at combat frustrated as
HEADBANGERS apparently had more important things to do than fight. Is it charming
personality? Conversational abilities? Good oral hygiene? Whatever it is, KORIBUS
is the most challenged warrior. As a confidence booster, ZODIAC FREAK challenged
POPPA LODE, down 21 points. Do you also slay vicious rodents in your spare time,
ZODIAC FREAK? Warriors of CALEAM! Do you wish your reputations tainted by the base
challenge of ZODIAC FREAK?
The moving sword slashes, and having slashed, moves on... More than one
waitress at The Warty Toad was spilling more drinks than usual last week, as MAUREN's
early demise became known. What will SOULS OF BLACK do??? Ask not a spymaster for
counsel, for he will pontificate long after you have fallen into an unconscious
stupor.
Do not think spyreporting in CALEAM is the highlight of my life. As if buffeted
by forces of nature beyond my control, I must take my leave of this place. Like a
mixed metaphor, and an overtaxed simile, I now bid CALEAM farewell-- Novgorodny Vir

Rahjan's Pride -- Sorry Zher-Denva is immortally challenged. Hopefully you find a
good warrior to join your stables. -- Mountain Mike
Can't say I recall 4 NPC fights in one turn before. If not for that tricky, tricky
cult member, it would have been a nice turn. -- Bremen
Sarina -- I must say that Mr. Grinch matches up with you *much* better than I do.
Let's see how this turn goes for you. -- Amee
Sinistrophobia -- That was a mighty sinister trick you pulled on me there. And to
think, at one point I was 10-3.... -- Dio
Koribus -- With over 30 more fights than me, I figured you could have at least taught
me a bit more. How dumb are you? -- Mountain Troll
Poppa Lode -- Man, with a name like that, you deserved to lose. -- Zodiac Freak
Peidao -- Heh. Or, maybe I am just a tad faster than you thought. -- Mountain Troll
(us trolls are quick little buggers, you know?)
Sarmassophobia -- Wow, I guess I should've brought a sarmass to the fight, shouldn't
I? -- Miss Priss
P.S. What IS a sarmass, that you're afraid of it?
Phobophobia -- (sigh) I should remember that. -- Little Nugget
P.S. I think there must be some kind of built in monster in all the arenas, in the
locker rooms, don't you? Otherwise, the bathtub remark is ridiculous.
Mountain Troll -- Ack! I'm afraid of trolls! -- Koribus
P.S. How come you aren't gray and scaly?
P.P.S. And tall?
Zodiac Freak -- What the heck does my horrorscope have to do with anything? - Poppa
Lode
Amee -- It's nothing personal, but you're too tall. I was just trying to shorten you
a little. -- Sarina
The Annalist -- Don't we all! -- Leeta
About contests--we need something good for the contest itself, even more than for a
prize. There is so much competition in contests these days! Unfortunately, I can't
off-hand think of anything possible but different as a central issue for a contest.
Murphy's law at work, no doubt. There are all kinds going on, almost constantly:
TOGS, Killathons, managers-on-the-sands, alliance contests, and general contests
involving all the "best at this, best at that, first to achieve DM" stuff. I'm not
knocking them, but...can anybody think of a NEW idea? Or some new twist to give to
an old idea? -- Leeta the currently blank of mind

8 December 2003
Greetings! I would like to invite everyone to Jhans (DM 36) for the first annual kLk
St. Valentine's Day Massacre (kill contest). We will start the contest off with the
ceremonial burning of the Andorian flag on turn 450. (Six turns away. Roughly mid-
February.) The contest will run for 10 turns. On turn 461, 3 separate victors will
be announced. Team with the most kills, warrior with the most kills, and alliance
with the most kills. Prizes will be awarded to the manager of the team with the most
kills and to the manager of the warrior with the most kills. The prizes will
probably be team roll-ups. The number of roll-ups has yet to be determined. The
contest is sponsored by Jhans' newest, (but by the time the contest starts) largest
alliance, the kLk (pronounced "klick"). -- Polarius, mgr. of Blitzkrieg DM 36
