Without needless injury--they had not chosen to do Khaldren's will, after all. But her own mind, though free from outside control, was weary and slow. She was fumbling as badly with her spells as Segallion was with his sword. There wasn't going to be TIME for her stop him gently. A word of Command formed on her lips. The warrior staggered into her so that they both fell in a tangle of flailing limbs. And his sword struck the blood-faced mirror, splitting the frame and shattering the glass. The glass exploded away from the mirror stand, bloody shards flying outward on a wave of sound so shrill as to be barely audible. If Adie, Segallion, and Nila had not all been on the floor, they might have been badly injured, even killed. Was it chance that they were all below the deadly glass? Adie thought not. They were each worshippers of the sun in their different ways, and she suspected the hand of the god in their survival. Rolling away from Segallion, Adie sat up, brushing at her hair and her robe absently. When the mirror broke, she had felt a shadow lifting; that was the first she had known that there was a level to the enemy spell below the obvious. She shivered. She hadn't even suspected that deeper spell, and it could have done... anything, it had taken her so completely by surprise. But she would not be surprised a second time. On the road from Ardivent: "Health, humility, and honor will not solve all problems," Master Cho said flatly. He had rejected the idea of hiring a horse and was making surprisingly good time for an elderly-looking man on foot. "You know that as well as I do, Fandil! Sometimes you need cunning, as well, and a willingness to take losses." "I know that." Fandil the Wise sounded testy, and in truth he was very irritated. On the most immediate level, by Cho's present attitude and by the ease with which the Adantri kept up with Fandil's horse. "But young Adeolar is not a loss I'm prepared to accept." "Of course not, or why would we be rushing toward Aruak City instead of sitting at home with beer?" Cho squinted at the forest on their right. There was a bad feeling to it today. Most of the land that lay between the environs of Ardivent and the beginning of the Aruaki lands was forested. Despite the hunger for agricultural land in Andoria, no one had made an attempt to clear this forest and put the land under the plow. Nobody offered reasons, it was just "not done." It didn't take a master of the subtle arts to figure it out, though. The forest was haunted. Through a sweep of land twenty miles wide stretching from near Lyratilan to near Mordant, the forest concealed a scattering of ruins. Not the Van ruins of northern Andoria, or not entirely--who could know for sure at this late date? The ancient city of Celestinvael was the best known in modern times, but there were other things hidden by those dark and tangled trees. Maybe worse things. Things that might be wakened by the same spell that was stirring Celestinvael. It was not a situation to make an old man sleep soundly at night. "I just hope we're in TIME to help Adeolar," Cho muttered. "She's strong and skilled," Fandil protested. "Our fears may be completely unfounded!" "So you'll back Adeolar's young strength and skill against Khaldren's ages of experience and cunning? I hope you're right, because at our best pace," he glanced scornfully at Fandil's horse, "and with no problems, it'll take us two more days to get to Aruak City." Skaithvarn: Shania Silverstar did her best to be patient, but it seemed to be taking Ashon Chang so LONG to negotiate with the ship captain! She glanced around at her companions, wondering if she could have organized her resources better for this frantic rush back to Alastari. No, probably not. Vurand and Jammies were keeping both eyes on Herlas; the Fratsfan mage hadn't given them any trouble...yet, but he might. He would, when he thought he had a chance to win. Werre was organizing their luggage and supplies (desperately slim now) as fast as they were off-loaded from the mules. Zakar...she didn't know what Zakar was doing, and she wasn't sure she wanted to. He was on their side, more or less, but...today had seemed to be a "less" day. And Rughal was at her side, supporting her as weariness ate at her bones. Ashon Chang was gesturing them forward to the ship. Before Shania could gather her strength to walk, Rughal lifted her and carried her down the dock. "It is agreed," Ashon Chang said. "This man, Kaldinar, will sail us across the Trier to Zorpunt." * }%|[-----+O+-----]|%{ * }%|[-----+O+-----]|%{ * }%|[-----+O+-----]|%{ * ---===ANDORIAN REGIONAL NEWS===--- Duelmasters ----------- DM 8 ARKERS (turn 246): GOLDENEYE of BONDAGE (Spawn, mgr.) There were bitter words at IT'S ALL RELATIVE's guildhouse after a 0-1-0 showing this week which dropped the stable into 10th. Dark Arena anyone? Warriors--remember that glory waits always around the corner! Witness how this week SHERWOOD FOREST went 3-2-1 to move up 3 in the rankings. My praise to HOME LIFE for their 3-1-0 week this time out. Indeed, it was a skillfully fought round deserving of notice! GO-FER caught the eye of many in the gladiatorial commission as he skillfully bested TUK ADOW and was awarded 23 points in recognition. In one of the week's more notable duels, SAILOR VENUS put down ALBUQUERQUE, causing it to lose 7 points of recognition in the process. Who here was not present for the title fight this week as TAOS boldly TV challenged NICKEL in order to strive for the Duelmasters honors? Not for nothing has NICKEL in the past laid claim to the Duelmaster's throne, and this week he's proven his combat skill yet again. Would you believe that over half of the old women in CALEAM seem to feel that they could fight better than you gladiators? I have been in deep conclave with my spies who watched all that has recently transpired. Indeed there is much I would report. My inside sources tell me that the team to beat in CALEAM these days is WARCKERS. At least, most blades in town are looking to avoid them. Methinks more than a few here could name the guild it was that spent the better part of last week avoiding WARCKERS. Indeed it was HEADBANGERS. Loose talk at the arena has reached my ears and it but confirms the knowledge that many fighters are after KORIBUS. Watch your back! As a gladiator gets older, the icy grip of fear lays hold of his heart. True, SPLINTER? Who could miss your "brave" challenge of KORIBUS? All the city knows the duel went in favor of SPLINTER. I shall not fail to spread the word in other cities of this "mighty" victory. I cannot but express pride for the fearlessness of BALTIMORE who cast caution to the winds and challenged RAZOR BACK, a fighter 32 points higher. I must admit to some joy. Before my very eyes the underdog in this contest, BALTIMORE, defeated RAZOR BACK to claim victory and recognition. For some warriors honor is not important--only empty victory. See, gladiators, how ORLANDO of HERE TO PHOENIX challenged down 21 points to MISS PRISS. The weight of the challenge fell hard upon MISS PRISS and predictably she was bested by ORLANDO. This is how to arouse the anger of an entire guild! A match that raised a few eyebrows at the games this week, it seems that COLORADO SPRINGS posted a challenge against the more highly recognized JUICEA. The results, you ask? Well, the firebrand COLORADO SPRINGS lost to JUICEA. Remember warriors, this is the discipline of steel. Vendettas. Bloodied blades and broken spears. Indeed the city has seen more than its fair share of red in recent times. Perhaps even the strong cannot escape the vagaries of this world. This week arena veteran RAZOR BACK was slain, despite a 21-11-0 record. The warrior's path is harsh. For mediocrity there is but one reward--death. This past week MOTHER SUPERIOR, at 5-8-0, departed CALEAM forever. This week in mortal passion BALTIMORE let the blood of RAZOR BACK, sending one more soul into the void. Retribution by WARCKERS seems inevitable! Fate is a fickle mistress. She showers the miserable with fortune but sets enemies against the victorious. Remember this! If it were not for my skills as a spy I would have been mugged three times already in CALEAM. Nice atmosphere you have here! Ahh, but I can hear the spires of a far off city calling to me. I must away! Till we meet again, remember: a turtle walks slow, hides head in a shell, and harms no one; a lion runs to slay its prey.-- Zontani Sharp Eyes DUELMASTER W L K POINTS TEAM NAME NICKEL 4240 18 18 0 138 ERRATUM (440) CHALLENGER CHAMPIONS W L K POINTS TEAM NAME BALTIMORE 4043 12 13 1 126 HERE TO PHOENIX (415) TAOS 4042 12 8 1 113 HERE TO PHOENIX (415) FLIMSY 4406 12 4 1 105 WARCKERS (362) SPLINTER 4439 10 1 0 105 HEADBANGERS (87) SAILOR VENUS 4326 16 4 0 91 SHERWOOD FOREST (438) CHAMPIONS W L K POINTS TEAM NAME ALBUQUERQUE 4082 15 13 0 82 HERE TO PHOENIX (415) ONYX 4409 12 3 0 81 WARCKERS (362) KORIBUS 4227 12 38 0 77 GOLDEN CANYON (290) ORLANDO 4131 6 5 0 71 HERE TO PHOENIX (415) CHALLENGER ADEPTS W L K POINTS TEAM NAME DE DE MAO 4397 8 3 2 63 SHERWOOD FOREST (438) ADEPTS W L K POINTS TEAM NAME -SON OF A GUN 4382 5 2 0 56 IT'S ALL RELATIVE (449) JUICEA 4457 4 1 2 54 HOME LIFE (453) GO-FER 4444 4 8 0 52 GOLDEN CANYON (290) TUK ADOW 4395 9 7 0 46 WARCKERS (362) MISS PRISS 4371 11 12 0 45 GOLDEN CANYON (290) BOUNCER 4445 6 6 1 38 GOLDEN CANYON (290) JAW BREAKER 4454 6 1 0 38 HOME LIFE (453) -TWISTED SISTER 4390 4 2 0 34 IT'S ALL RELATIVE (449) CHALLENGER INITIATES W L K POINTS TEAM NAME QUEEN PAPAYA 4476 3 2 1 33 HEADBANGERS (87) POPPA LODE 4392 5 13 0 32 GOLDEN CANYON (290) COLORADO SPRINGS 4265 4 5 1 32 HERE TO PHOENIX (415) DOOMSDAY 4475 4 1 0 27 HEADBANGERS (87) MORAAT 4401 3 1 0 24 RAJHAN'S PRIDE (452) INITIATES W L K POINTS TEAM NAME R TO L 4268 4 3 0 21 ERRATUM (440) HAMMERFALL 4474 2 3 0 21 HEADBANGERS (87) YUCKY TUCKY 4460 3 2 0 20 SHERWOOD FOREST (438) -WICK 4267 3 3 0 20 ERRATUM (440) BEAUTY QUEEN 4456 3 2 0 15 HOME LIFE (453) NEEDLE 4472 1 0 0 15 LONESOME OCTOBER (456) BIRTHDAY GIRL 4480 1 0 0 15 HOME LIFE (453) FLOWER POWER 4481 1 0 1 14 SHERWOOD FOREST (438) HIDDEN DOOM 4479 1 0 0 11 WARCKERS (362) -AXIUM 4264 1 1 0 10 STYGIAN BOATMEN (392) FREAK 4482 0 1 0 7 SHERWOOD FOREST (438) '-' denotes a warrior who did not fight this turn. I desperately need help with this. What I need are style, favorite rhythm (ex.: hi/low), favorite weapons, and tactics. What would be great is if you could send me a copy of the invite with the warrior's name, id#, and arena blacked out. This way, I can verify that this is an actual warrior. Minis will work, too! For those interested, I have both a challenge style vs. style and a match-up style vs. style chart.
