SPY REPORT
The sages err'd not in their foretelling of a god descending upon CALEAM, for I,
Novgorodny Vir, have returned! Those betting on HOME LIFE lost their shirt, as HOME
LIFE lost their fighting abilities: 0-5-0. What's a move up by 3 you ask?
(alright, maybe you didn't ask) Cause for celebration, according to VENOM. Win
some, lose some. Speaking of which, FIRE was winsome, after beating MISS PRISS and
seeing her lose 18 points. The arena was more crowded than usual this time, as
SPLINTER faced CALEAM's Duelmaster. BLUE RING OCTOPUS successfully staved off a grab
for the roses by SPLINTER of HEADBANGERS. Does CALEAM have no one talented enough to
dethrone her? So who was the warrior seen charging into immovable walls and
challenging dead trees? Someone's got a basic problem...
My mother wished me to avoid conflict, and seek the gentle trade of Spyreporter.
But warriors aren't supposed to avoid fights! To quell some nasty rumors, the guys
in HEADBANGERS are not carrying any incurable diseases. No need to avoid 'em. Like
a pup with its tail between its legs, HOME LIFE scurried away from HEADBANGERS. Oh,
the shame! Is it charming personality? Conversational abilities? Good oral
hygiene? Whatever it is, KORIBUS is the most challenged warrior. Call 'im brash!
Call 'im brassy! Call 'im brave! Call 'im sassy! DOOMSDAY will face ONYX, up by
29. Aaaah, just call 'im dead meat. The gods smiled upon DOOMSDAY, in his upset
fight against ONYX. DOOMSDAY gets a win, 22 points, and a free drink on me. (Next
week, OK?) Them's the breaks, BLOOD MOON. Expecting fair challenges from HEADBANGERS
is evidently too much to ask. HAMMERFALL will have to start challenging legless old
maids next, as he was beat by BLOOD MOON. Good show, BLOOD MOON! JAW BREAKER
challenged PINK! Who says HOME LIFE are just a bunch of wimps! JAW BREAKER of HOME
LIFE kept his wits as he was defeated by PINK. My love of complete Spyreports
dictates that I note the mismatched fight, QUEEN PAPAYA and GO-FER. Are HEADBANGERS
unwilling to engage in a fair fight? I thought QUEEN PAPAYA showed great skill and
promise when she was dispatched by GO-FER. All right, so I slept through it! Big
deal!
The moving sword slashes, and having slashed, moves on... Death (in the form of
GO-FER of GOLDEN CANYON) knocked on QUEEN PAPAYA's door. What will HEADBANGERS do?
The suspense is killing me. Ask not for whom the sword slashes; it slashes for thee.
Leave me now, you base fools! As if buffeted by forces of nature beyond my
control, I must take my leave of this place. Do not despair! I shall return!--
Novgorodny Vir

PERSONAL ADS
Miss Priss -- As evidenced by our fight, it's all about you! -- Blackadder
Papaiz -- It's good to be back, son! It's equally good to some familiar faces in the
Arena. Now, as far as Caleam goes, it does appear to have tarnished a bit in my
absence. Even so, I'm sure a little elbow grease and determination will get it
shining again. Also it appears that we managers could stand to polish our acts a
little. -- Lord Fang, rolling up his sleeves
Sablon-O-Vlad -- My thanks for the welcome, son! The nightmare's over; it's time
Caleam returned to its former glory. -- Lord Fang
P.S. Drop the down-challenging. It's just too Delarquan.
Leeta -- It's definitely been too long, and I appreciate the warm welcomes! -- Lord
Fang
All -- Note the return of Fallout, a team older than Headbangers! It's a clear sign
of the shift of cycles; Caleam is on the rise. Welcome back, Fallout! -- Lord Fang,
Mgr. Venom
P.S. For any who care, my e-mail address is ModernAtlas@aol.com
Lenny -- Did you lose a bet or something? You made me look better than Lord Fang
ever remembers seeing me! -- Blackadder, quite appreciative
Blood Moon -- That was quite a match-up for me! -- Lionfish
All -- For those curious, Seeing Red is my team also. -- Lord Fang, whose elsewhere
alter-ego is Edge
Cassidy -- Nice learning. -- Pink, tingeing towards green with envy
Tuk Adow -- How the heck did that happen? -- Ruby
Lord Fang -- Do I correctly recall you saying recently (everything blurs after the
sixth or seventh newsletter of the day) that you have just returned to play after an
absence? If so, has anyone mentioned to you that it is possible for maxed warriors
to train skills again in Primus? -- Leeta
Koribus -- Wow! Four skills after all this time. You are the man! -- Splinter
Bouncer -- That's no way to treat a lady! -- Rosie
Vic -- Good fight. Lousy matchup for you just getting into the arena though. --
Doomsday
Goris -- Bow to your Queen! -- Queen Papaya
Go-Fer -- Looks like I needed to go fer a back up weapon. Sigh.... -- Hamerfall
Leeta -- Hate to say it, but I agree with the spirit of what Papaiz has to say. Use
some avoids, change a strategy, heck, even throw in a bloodfeud now and then. Since
it is basically only you, him, and me in the arena, it looks like we all agree. --
Sablon-O-Vlad
P.S. But at least I know your name....
Papaiz -- If it just plain sucks then leave. -- SOV
Blue Ring Octopus -- If you couldn't beat Deadman a year and a half ago, then I know
you can't beat me. Hope you are avoiding.... -- Splinter
Splinter -- Nothing like meeting old friends.... But how, after all this time, did
you manage to learn four skills off of me? -- Koribus
Hidden Doom -- You call that hidden? Seemed pretty obvious to me. -- Poppa Lode
P.S. And I must need parry skills, or I wouldn't have lost, right?
P.P.S. A Karnhorn. It figures. They're big on doom over there. And on hiding.
Rosie -- For a pretty little thing like you, we do gentle bounces. -- Bouncer
Flimsy -- You are, rather. I don't believe I've ever seen a cardboard golem before.
Not a good thing. But then, I suppose golems aren't even designed to take vitamins.
Not that they would help for SURE, but you never know. Have you considered getting
yourself lacquered? It might help. -- Miss Priss
P.S. And at least it would keep you from dissolving in all this rain.
Hammerfall -- O-KAY! (jumping up and down in excitement) Nobody told me I got to go
fer a win this time. I love it! Can we do it again? -- Go-Fer
Papaiz -- It isn't clear what you're trying to do. Are you trying to tell me how to
run my team, or trying to get a free pass to guilt-free downchallenging?
For reasons which seem adequate to me, I am satisfied with the way I run my
team. I don't propose to change it. You are not the first manager to object to how
I run my warriors, although you may be the first in this arena. I've had managers
say they'd rather fight standbys than my warriors, that my teams are no challenge; I
can understand this, as even when you lose the fight, a standby won't take a free-
fight position such as popularity leader away from the loser, and some managers count
on those free fights to finance their involvement in this game. I've had managers
complain because I'm "too competitive"! And they were Delarquan, too--gotta wonder
about that. I've had a manager complain--to the Commission!--when he challenged a
basher of mine--knowing the warrior was a basher, mind you--with an unarmored aimed
blow, and his warrior died. I can't please everyone and don't propose to try.
As to whether or not you can issue downchallenges to me, it is a legal move, and
in a small arena, not a surprising one. As to whether you can do so without
compromising your status as a pure Andorian manager, that is between you and your own
conscience. I will not accept victim-guilt for you; you downchallenge, you live with
it. -- Leeta
Splinter -- Next tourney? (groan) Two more turns.... -- Koribus
Doomsday -- It's the rain. All the elastic got soggy. Or, um, something like that.
-- Bouncer
Queen Papaya -- For you, my dear.... (bows) -- Poppa Lode
Hammerfall -- I'm not getting up! Get your own cold drink. -- Go-Fer
Blackadder -- Oh, I couldn't do THAT. Especially not with a devilish serpent like
you! -- Miss Priss
