It is I, Zontani Sharp Eyes, here to bring report of the clash and bustle of the weekly CALEAM games. My praise to HEADBANGERS for their 3-1-0 week this time out. Indeed, it was a skillfully fought round deserving of notice! MASSASAUGUS caught the eye of many in the gladiatorial commission as he skillfully bested TRUSTWORTHY SCRIBE and was awarded 20 points in recognition. In one of the week's more notable duels, MISS PRISS put down PINK, causing her to lose 12 points of recognition in the process. This time out SPLINTER made his bid for the throne as he challenged FIRE in an all out contest of skill for possession of the title! Although SPLINTER made a valiant effort, it did not suffice to topple the reign of victorious FIRE. Would you believe that over half of the old women in CALEAM seem to feel that they could fight better than you gladiators? I have been in deep conclave with my spies who watched all that has recently transpired. Indeed there is much I would report. I saw one fighter that warriors avoided when this week's challenge seeking began. HEADBANGERS is feared. This much I can say. If you didn't look down dark alleys you'd have been hard pressed to find any of GOLDEN CANYON last week. Busy avoiding HEADBANGERS? Loose talk at the arena has reached my ears and it but confirms the knowledge that many fighters are after CANE TOAD. Watch your back! I can not but mention with disdain the name of HAMMERFALL who this week posted a challenge to a warrior a full 9 points below in the rankings. I thought HAMMERFALL showed great skill and promise when he defeated POPPA LODE. All right, so I slept through it! Big deal! Vendettas. Bloodied blades and broken spears. Indeed the city has seen more than its fair share of red in recent times. Look no more for TUK ADOW in the arena or on the streets of CALEAM. His fate was sealed in the Dark Arena. Inevitable for one at 12-10-0. This week marked the last days of ONYX who at 14-6-0 was dispatched to the Dark Arena by the command of WARCKERS' demanding management. Was I the only one shocked to see the well respected fighter ONYX (14-6-0) appear on the sands of the Dark Arena? She is now dead. Strange what qualities come forth in the face of certain doom. JAW BREAKER has the town astir with the news of his Dark Arena victory! Fate is a fickle mistress. She showers the miserable with fortune but sets enemies against the victorious. Remember this! The girls are as pretty in CALEAM as ever I remembered them....and the fighters as ugly! Don't let your reputation slip! Sadly warriors, now longer can I keep thy company nor savor the ale of thy fine city. Depart I must and soon! Till next we meet remember - the pen is mightier than the sword, but a maul is a different story!-- Zontani Sharp Eyes DUELMASTER W L K POINTS TEAM NAME FIRE 4177 12 3 0 120 SEEING RED (437) CHALLENGER CHAMPIONS W L K POINTS TEAM NAME SAILOR VENUS 4326 19 4 0 116 SHERWOOD FOREST (438) RUBY 4176 12 0 0 112 SEEING RED (437) SPLINTER 4439 14 4 0 97 HEADBANGERS (87) FLIMSY 4406 14 7 1 96 WARCKERS (362) MISS PRISS 4371 15 15 0 95 GOLDEN CANYON (290) CHAMPIONS W L K POINTS TEAM NAME BLACKADDER 4168 18 8 1 86 VENOM (176) DE DE MAO 4397 11 4 2 85 SHERWOOD FOREST (438) DOOMSDAY 4475 11 1 0 83 HEADBANGERS (87) KORIBUS 4227 12 45 0 81 GOLDEN CANYON (290) PINK 4180 10 5 0 72 SEEING RED (437) JUICEA 4457 7 3 2 72 HOME LIFE (453) CHALLENGER ADEPTS W L K POINTS TEAM NAME GO-FER 4444 6 13 1 66 GOLDEN CANYON (290) JAW BREAKER 4454 10 2 1 60 HOME LIFE (453) ADEPTS W L K POINTS TEAM NAME FLOWER POWER 4481 4 1 1 55 SHERWOOD FOREST (438) BOUNCER 4445 10 9 1 54 GOLDEN CANYON (290) HAMMERFALL 4474 7 5 0 53 HEADBANGERS (87) -VIC 542 7 3 0 51 FALLOUT (86) -CASSIDY 545 8 2 1 45 FALLOUT (86) -LENNY 546 6 4 0 43 FALLOUT (86) -YUCKY TUCKY 4460 5 2 0 41 SHERWOOD FOREST (438) ADEPTS W L K POINTS TEAM NAME POPPA LODE 4392 6 19 0 37 GOLDEN CANYON (290) CHALLENGER INITIATES W L K POINTS TEAM NAME LIONFISH 4509 3 1 0 31 VENOM (176) -GORIS 544 5 5 0 30 FALLOUT (86) BLOOD MOON 4507 2 2 0 27 WARCKERS (362) HIDDEN DOOM 4479 4 4 0 26 WARCKERS (362) INITIATES W L K POINTS TEAM NAME BIRTHDAY GIRL 4480 4 2 0 21 HOME LIFE (453) ROSIE 4492 2 3 0 21 HEADBANGERS (87) MASSASAUGUS 4517 1 0 0 20 VENOM (176) CANE TOAD 4512 2 1 1 15 VENOM (176) FREAK 4482 2 3 0 15 SHERWOOD FOREST (438) '-' denotes a warrior who did not fight this turn. If we cross blades this time, it is only because my primary challenge of Fire did not go through. Good luck in graduating soon. -- Splinter Poppa Lode -- Let me guess, that's Mr. Lode of Skills to me, eh? -- Hammerfall Papaiz -- Okay, pal, here's an offer to you. If you continue to write PA's each turn in this arena, like you did last turn, I'll cut out the DC's in this arena. As soon as you go back to being silent, I'll go back to the DC's. Time to put your money where your mouth is and do something about it like you told Leeta. So...I'll be looking on turn 492. If there is PA's from you, and you become more a part of the arena than just fighting guys, you will see no DC's from me on 493. Same goes for future turns as long as you contribute to Caleam with PA's. Do we have a deal? - SOV Flimsy -- Sorry pal, but I don't need to avoid when I have a TV challenge. -- Splinter Papaiz -- Why, oh why are you not fighting Flimsy in the tourney?! -- SOV Lord Fang -- Congrats on graduating Blue Ring Octopus. Hopefully he got great faves and will bring a TV or even....I shudder to say....TC to Caleam. Best of luck and congrats again. -- Sablon-O-Vlad SOV -- Ya, I'll be leaving, although I am not sure as to how long. Maybe just until after the spring mail-in. I just want to get some warriors to the top of their class, so in about 4 or 5 turns. -- Papaiz Doomsday -- Well, looks like that fan in the stands was right: you could do it. I count this as the bloodfeud achieved, since the death was not of my seeking. -- Go- Fer Splinter -- Well, I can see the point some people have been making. Unless you're going, as some people do, by number of fights listed rather than by ranking, that is a down-challenge. With a TV, too. There are warriors above you, there were last turn. Does the win mean so much, to be sought by this means? I note that both I and Miss Priss are withing challenge range of you still; we will avoid, and after all, you can't fight both of us! Which probably means we get to have the variety of losing to Onyx or Tuk Adow. Oh, well, the pay's not much, but the fringe benefits are good. -- Koribus Hammerfall -- Maybe you didn't laugh, but you snickered. I saw it. -- Poppa Lode, feeling his years Hidden Doom -- I'm good at finding things, aren't I? -- Bouncer Blue Ring Octopus -- You're rather short for a Fratsfan, aren't you? Are you sure you're a natural blonde, young lady? -- Miss Priss Papaiz -- If you know where I work, then you must know also that censuring players for tactics that are permitted by the rules is no part of my job description. I have in the past suggested, nay, lobbied for, a change in the rules that would allow each region to have its own rules variants proper to its philosophy. So far, no luck on that. And until such a change is initiated, what do you expect me to do? Tell him to stop playing? To address your specific points: Yes, anyone can "run" a team as I do, and many managers do. NOT just staff, I've done the input myself and seen who's on maintenance, and who's running "same" turn after turn. And that is WHY I don't do strat changes or challenges: I've seen the input of the other managers. Maybe not often, but once is all it takes to make an opening for charges of cheating. I don't propose to go down that road; I've seen where it leads. But because the other managers who run teams on maintenance don't write personals, they tend to slip under the radar of the more active managers. I could, of course, cease to write personals, but that IS part of my job description. No problem is black and white. There are shades of gray, or as the mime said in Malcorn once, "What about orange?" Yes, I know, down-challenging is considered un- Andorian, and this is an Andorian arena. See above: down-challenging is legal here, as it is elsewhere. Yes, there have been, in the past, staff members who got really hot under the collar about this; where are they now? In any case, that is not my style and has not been in the sixteen years I've been playing this game. Yes, I have laughed about the down-challenges, sometimes. What else should I do? When I worked in a grocery store, I didn't berate everyone who bought the cheapest, shoddiest goods. That was not and is not in my job description. If some particular manager wants cheap, shoddy wins--and there are several of them around, because I've met 'em--I won't stop him. Yes, I will start avoiding, probably not regularly, but often, because of a challenge by the same manager in another Andorian arena that was grotesque enough to finally get my goat. Which does not mean I'm going to challenge him up, down, or sideways. I don't have the time or the energy for that. I run in all four regions and all the advanced arenas; I meet all kinds of play (including some from so-called Andorian managers which would make me foam at the mouth if I were inclined that way). It's part of my job. With the exception of the occasional avoid, I will continue to play as I have been for years now. Or I'll close down the team; either works for me, although Sandy would probably refuse to let me go inactive on the grounds that the arena's too small. You'll have to take me as I am, and if you, too, want to down-challenge, that is your choice. -- Leeta Lord Fang -- I don't know whether you can "re-burn" skills in Primus, although some of the number-crunching managers there could probably tell you. But with the closing of Gateway, the training oportunities of Gateway have descended on Primus and all warriors there, maxed or not, may train skills again. (What else could the Commission do? It would have been grossly unfair to refuse the training to the Primus warriors that now have to fight the pumped-up ex-Gateway warriors.) I don't know how many of each, but someone can probably tell you. I do know that you don't have to fight a former Gateway warrior to get these trainings. Good luck with it. -- Leeta P.S. As to "what else don't you know?" how can I guess? Hmm, the slightly increased skill-training rate in Home Guard? That's why some Freshmen TVs have come from there lately. There are still a lot of old dogs in Home Guard, but often new graduates go there for a final polish before hitting the big time. And the closed arenas--you can move those teams, if you have any, into arenas where you ALREADY have a team without losing the in-residence team. I think the limit is three teams per arena, though I'm not sure if that's three total, or three moved in with one already present making four. If this might apply to you, check with the Commission. 22 October 2004 Youngblood's Three and Out Contest I would like to take this time to announce and invite all managers to compete in what I think will be an awesome contest. If you haven't ever TC'd at a tourney before, here is your chance. The contest will start Wednesday, December 1, 2004, but a chance will be given November 17 to dark arena, only, any warrior that you do not see fit to run in the contest. So now that I have your attention, here are the rules (like you didn't know they were coming sooner or later). 1. Any manager participating can enter one team, only. 2. No sandbagging whatsoever. (I will keep up with it, every turn.) 3. No teams or warriors will be allowed to run after contest starts. 4. All warriors will run until they lose three times, after three losses they are eliminated. 5. If a warrior sits out a turn, they are accounted with a loss in the contest. This is to keep warriors with winning records from sitting out until the end of the contest. 6. If a warrior is killed during the contest, the replacement cannot enter the contest. 7. If a warrior is killed, bloodfeuding is allowed, but only by a warrior that is active in the contest. 8. If a warrior is run after being eliminated, the manager is disqualified from the contest, no questions asked. 9. Challenges are legal, up or down. 10. Contest will keep going until 1 warrior is left without three losses, and that warrior, of course, is accounted the winner. 11. All managers participating will be asked to purchase a rollup certificate, to be awarded to the winners of the contest. <<<PRIZES>>> As I have already said, and according to participation, rollups will be awarded to the first and second place managers. So the majority and minority of the rollups will be determined when all are accumulated. Contest Champion--2 Faves prizes, and majority of rollup certificates Contest Runner-up--1 Faves prize, and minority of rollup certificates So once again I invite all managers old and new to participate in what should be a fierce and challenging contest. <<<REMEMBER, FIRST OFFICIAL TURN OF THE CONTEST IS DECEMBER THE FIRST, AND AS I SAID BEFORE, THE TURN BEFORE (NOVEMBER 17TH) YOU MAY DARK ARENA CHALLENGE ONLY!!!
