On the shores of a lake:

Senator Sedalia stared at the magicians with consternation and displeasure.
The magicians stared back, in much the same mood. The one who seemed to be in
charge repeated his statement of position. "We came here to summon lesser daemons to
deal with certain problems in Istoreth," he said. "You appeared in response to that
spell. Therefore you are the summoned daemons and must do our bidding."
"And what if we can't deal with your problems?" Sedalia asked. There might be
some value in passing through Istoreth--a city on the Skaithvarn Peninsula, as he
recalled--in the character of magical spirits. And some risks.
The chief magician scowled. "Then you are the wrong daemons and must be
dismissed out of hand." His scowl deepened, and he tapped his wand on the palm of
his other hand. "A task which I am prepared to undertake without delay, it that
should prove... necessary."
"Or any of us!" another mage added.
"Summoned daemons should not be so quarrelsome," a third said. His fingers were
twitching. Since he was the one standing by the altar holding the knife (the victim
appeared to have been a rabbit), this was not encouraging.
Sedalia was quiet for a moment, reviewing what facts he had, then nodded
sharply. "It appears to me that you and we have been the victims of a daemonic
prank. Just as you cast your spell, your net, as it were, into the immaterial world,
my comrade and I were attempting to escape the magical bounds of the Isle of the Eye.
And some mischievous daemon, seeing a way to escape the spell himself, guided us into
it in his place." The senator shrugged. "You have, in a way, done us a favor. So
we will, so far as we can, return that favor by attempting whatever it was you wanted
the daemon to do."
The mages all stared at him fixedly for several moments, then turned to their
leader, consulting with glances.
Behind him, Gissanniah pinched his arm. "You don't know what they might want,"
she said, keeping her voice low. "We aren't demons--"
"Freely granted," Sedalia said, "though some might argue that politicians do fall
into that category. But they weren't fishing for demons. 'Lesser daemons', minor
spirits of some kind. And we are ingenious and capable. We may be able to handle
whatever is afoot."
"The spell specified that certain abilities believed necessary would be present,
and you could not have been substituted if you did not have them," the chief mage
said. "Therefore, we will allow you the attempt." He gestured toward a grove of
trees farther along the shore, where a carriage could be glimpsed. "Let us be away
to Istoreth and put it to the test."

                                 DUELMASTER'S COLUMN
                             Notes from the arena champ.

Well, there were definitely some changes for Menagerie this week. First off, Iris
got packed up and safely shipped to the Isle. Boss said she was going to be allowed
to retire, but there are some rumors that she has come to some..."other"...
arrangements.

Second, Borderline never made it back from the tourney. The boss seemed more
disappointed than angry, pointing out that this is the second time he has died, so
maybe we'll see him again sometime. I think the old man was more annoyed by having
his closest AB to graduation (he hasn't graduated one yet) killed than by losing the
warrior himself.

Calonymous learned this week that whereas Iris won primarily through her ability to
take damage, I take a more traditional approach. Unfortunately, since the only other
warrior in the arena rated above Challenger Adept is a teammate who refuses to sit
out, it looks like I'll most likely be fighting stand-ins for the next two turns,
after which point I should have met the final requirements for graduation to the
Isle. As a result, I'm making no challenges this turn.

Until next time, Caleam

Alegria

                                      SPY REPORT

So why do I have this bag over my head? Because I am The Unknown Spymaster and
I'm going to give you a spy report!. Hey everybody, watch out for SOLDIER 23, who
flew up 23 points in the rankings after mashing HEART BREAKER like a melon. Keep
your eye on this guy. Ya know, some days it doesn't pay to walk out on the sands.
HEART BREAKER was subdued by SOLDIER 23 and drops 19 points. Well, everybody's pal
ALEGRIA moved hers record to 17-3-1 by defeating VIRGINAL CONCUBINE in the
Duelmaster's Title Bout and gaining 5 recognition points. Advice to bashers--never
force anything, just get a bigger halberd!
Let's dig a little deeper into what's happening in the CALEAM arena. And hey,
kiddies, those of you who didn't avoid ULTRA-VIOLENT, please raise you hand. Wow.
Does CALEAM really have that many liars? For those of you who like math, try this
one: ULTRA-VIOLENT + Weapons That go Boom = MEDAL OF HONOR F7 + Avoid City. Well
dang howdy, but if challenges were votes, COROT TORO would be president. Although it
may be a contest he doesn't want to win. Can any one out there say 'weasel'? Oh
well, just saying SOLDIER 22 will do. He challenged 17 points down to trash COROT
TORO. Definition of petty: SOLDIER 22 won victory over COROT TORO, a mismatch of 17
points. Challenging down 18 points was JEREMY. Pretty soon he'll be using two
shields and selling 'T.P.: The only way to clean up' pins. Definition of petty:
JEREMY defeated DEATH RATTLE, a mismatch of 18 points.
Remember that an arena is not always a safe place to be, but it is one of the
most interesting, though! Ask not the elves for counsel, for they will say both yes
and no. Silly buggers, eh?
Well, there's the manager of the CALEAM giving me the 'cut' sign (or is that
'They're going to strangle you in the alley?). Okay, so I may not be the world's
best comedian, but then you guys aren't the world's best warriors. And remember, you
can pick your friends and you can pick your--(loud boos), oh, you've heard that one
already!-- The Unknown Spymaster

Calvata -- Well, thanks anyway for the challenge; Borderline vs. Calonymous was a
fight I tried repeatedly to set up, but it wasn't to be. -- I. Frothingslosh

All -- Well, so much for that experiment. Borderline was 5-9-10-15-15-9-21 AB, +5
attack but a lousy learning rate and the amazing ability to snatch defeat from the
jaws of victory. He was also the only warrior of mine to ever bloodfeud his own
death (he won). -- I. Frothingslosh

Short Order Joe -- Somehow, I think you're going to be happy to see me gone. --
Dralion

Cnut Cnuklz -- Well, that was unexpected. -- Jeremy

Dralion -- (sternly) You put ketchup on that, young lady, and our relationship is
history. -- Short Order Joe

Gut Buster -- Ah... yes. You're sure about the anchovies? With (shudder) tomato
sauce? Couldn't you just... put them on torillas and call them an enchilada? I
mean, I just don't DO fish. -- Suzette Creppay

Flesh Flayer -- What an unpleasing color for you, m'dear. Your beauty would best be
exhibited in a more ethereal palate. Water blues and greens, I think, and crystal.
Not these gross, flesh-and-blood colors. Really, you must be color-draped
immediately. -- Corot Toro

Homer Wise -- Er. I realize that chicken a la king is traditional for that kind of
thing, but think of the excitement and praise you will gain from offering the
luncheon attendees a hearty beef stew with fresh bread! I can make you an excellent
deal, if you are prepared to take delivery of five gallons or more. -- Kettelman

That Friendly Constable, always with his hand out. -- Spitzen

Hmm, did we remember to congratulate Calonymus and Iris last time? If not,
congratulations, and if we did, congratulations again. -- Jorja and the Golden Canyon

17 July 2008
All -- Many of you know me and many more don't, but I will be scarce for a few
months. I am relocating, so look for my presence online! As my will, so mote it
be! -- Abraxis

                            Starting Nov 2008 (10 turns)

Anyone may participate; known alliances, new alliances, or temporary alliances created solely to compete in the Turf War! To participate, each alliance must:
        1. Announce the alliance and the Captain of the alliance in the North Fork
            (DM 47) newsletter.
        2. Announcements made on the D2 Forums will not be accepted.

Captains are responsible for:
        1. Verifying those who wish to participate under the banner of their

            alliance;
        2. Distribution of prizes should their alliance win the Turf War.
        3. Submit one (1) RSI Roll-Up Certificate to participate

Participating managers who are not Captains must:
        1. Submit one (1) RSI Roll-Up Certificate to participate
        2. Announce their intent to compete with manager name, team name, and
alliance they will represent in the North Fork (DM 47) newsletter.
Announcement made on the D2 Forums will not be accepted.
               a. No scores will be tabulated until a Gift Certificate is received.
                   No EXCEPTIONS.
               b. Before a manager can compete, he/she must declare themselves in
the North Fork (DM 47) newsletter as stated above AND be verified
by the alliance Captain they will represent.
               c. Only one (1) team per player may compete. No multiple teams or
aliases will be allowed. Violations will result in immediate
disqualification from the Turf War (so be sure to take any
multiple teams OFF of Team Maintenance).
               d. Scoring will NOT be retroactive for teams that do not properly
declare or fail to send a Gift Certificate by Turn 1. In other
words, if your Gift Certificate is not received until Turn 3 of
the Turf War, and you have fought on Turns 1 and 2, your scoring
will not begin until Turn 3. All conditions must be met before
scoring will begin--declaration, verification, and Gift
                   Certificate received.
               e. No declarations or verifications will be accepted after Turn 5 of
                   the Turf War.
               f. For purposes of scoring, the moderators will score the Turf War
and settle any and all disputes as they arise. Their decisions
                   will be final.

Scoring will be as follows for Fights:
                Win Loss Kill Die
