Morya:

Equestor Valarrian, ruler of Morya, glared at the man across the desk from him.
Zebaalad was Ferencian, and probably a mage, and his allegiance was to Bey Nishtar,
the man who was now ruler in all but name of Monuntial. Valarrian considered
Zebaalad a source of unrest among the Moryan population, though he couldn't prove it.
Nishtar and his agent Zebaalad would like to see him, Valarrian Kiyle, fall from
power so that they could suck Morya into subordination under Monuntial. They had no
understand for the realities of life at this end of the Storm Sea: it would be much
better if Monuntial were subordinated to Morya, and he meant to see that happen.
"I repeat," Zebaalad said, "that I am not, nor is Bey Nishtar, responsible for
the, ah, disruption along the lakeside."
"It's some kind of magic," the Equestor growled. "And--"
"Ahem, it is NOT magic," Zebaalad countered firmly. "Not exactly, anyway. And
I do not believe that an effect which must be based on great power would even be
possible given the current state of the Arcanum. No...not magical...."
     "Then what?" Valarrian demanded, exasperated.
Zebaalad stared at him, unblinking, for a long moment. (Like a damned lizard,
Valarrian thought.) "I believe that it is something that is happening BECAUSE the
Arcanum is declining," the Ferencian said finally. "It seems that the decline in the
Arcanum is being accompanied by an increase in the permeability of the
interdimensional membrane--"
"For the gods' sake, man, put it in plain language!"
Zebaalad shrugged. "The towers which are now sometimes seen on the lakeshore,"
he said, "exist in a different universe than ours, one that has begun to...link with
ours intermittently."
"A different universe?" Valarrian had a horrible vision of armored hordes
pouring out of a hole in the world to conquer HIS empire before he had a chance to
build its strength. "Is there some way to stop it happening?"
"None that is known to me, or that I have ever heard of," the Ferencian said.
"Perhaps the Greywand could do something...if she wasn't busy with other matters that
seem more pressing to her."
"We don't want her involved!" the Equestor snapped. Perhaps the delicate glass
towers he had seen--all Morya had seen--fading in and out on the shore meant that the
people on the other side of the hole were not warlike. Maybe they were a bunch of
wimpy Elves like the old ruler of Monuntial, Quetzal. In that case...perhaps the
armored hordes could go in the OTHER direction. He saw himself as a glorious
conqueror receiving ambassadors from TWO worlds. But he would need more information
about the other world, the Glass Tower World he called it in his own mind.
Information was as good as another legion when it came to battle. And, his lips
curved into a faint smile, who better to send into the unknown than the gladiators
who had been swaggering around the city making pests of themselves? Gladiators
fancied themselves as peerless explorers, didn't they? Yes....

Near Morya:

Uncle Wolf moved slowly in a circle, colored sand sifting through his fingers to
mark the limits of his working space on the ground. One of his gladiators, Lord
Protector Ghost Dancer, stood in the center of the circle and watched closely.
Though a breeze stirred the willows that edged the little clearing by the lake, the
powders fell straight downward and did not shift once they were in position.
The old man finished his circle and picked up a willow switch, peeled to slick
whiteness. "You're sure you want to do this? I may not be able to bring you back."
"I'm sure," the young warrior said firmly. "I know the risks--"
"Nobody knows the risks except Shierah, and even She may not know what lies in
another world," Uncle Wolf snapped. "This is the UNKNOWN, boy."
"I don't know the risks then," Ghost Dancer said patiently. "But I still want
to do this."
Uncle Wolf sighed. "All right." He used the willow switch to scratch cryptic
patterns into the dust around the edge of the circle, then stood back. "The Glass
Towers will be coming again soon," he said finally, "and when they return to their
own place, you'll go with them. So long as you carry that amulet," he nodded at the
carved bone pendant his warrior wore on a neck thong, "I should be able to find you
and bring you back in..." he glanced at the sky consideringly, "two days as time
passes here. I don't know how long that will be in the other place."
Ghost Dancer nodded also, touched the pendant, touched his sheathed sword but
didn't draw it. "I'm ready."

Monuntial:

Someone shouted for him, them, whoever heard and understood, to drop flat on the
count of five. It took Agro a few seconds to realize the command had been in Isle
cant, a language born of the cross-fertilization of Fratsfan, Kannish, and Tathanit,
and little known outside the gladiatorial community. Probably a friend, then. When
someone yelled "FIVE" he dropped.
And an explosion of...light? Fire? Some kind of blast flashed over his head,
taking down anyone still standing. The Usurper's guards, the regular guards, most of
his followers who were still standing. He didn't want to think about Bindi; she was
still a Basic gladiator and hadn't been exposed to Isle cant....
There was a second explosion on the heels of the first, but it was dark and cold
and expanded in a volume instead of a plane. Counterattack? This was a lot of magic
flying around for the time and conditions. Agro recalled that someone had told him
Nishtar, the Eastern ally of the Usurper, was a mage. Maybe a reckless mage, then.
And it probably meant that the Usurper, or at least his ally, had survived the first
blast.
When the air stopped shaking, Agro raised his head and looked around cautiously.
He couldn't hear anything, but that was probably because the two blasts had numbed
his ears. After a look at the stands, he decided temporary deafness was a blessing.
He gathered his limbs under himself and lurched to his feet. A few others down on
the sands were doing likewise--one of them, he saw with relief, was Bindi. If any
were guards, they'd lost their tell-tale armor. He gestured for her to go toward the
exit and started in that direction himself.
He had about a dozen men left of the bunch he'd started with, which meant a lot
of them were dead or down. And that was still fewer dead than if he'd left them to
the Usurper's lions. But what to do with them now? Whatever life they'd had here in
Monuntial before today, they couldn't go back to it. They were marked men now,
rebels, and Nishtar and Quelsarrain had a short way with rebels. Probably the ones
fed to the lions were the lucky ones. Worry about that later.
Worry about it? What was happening in his head? Since when did he worry about
humans? Humans were meat at best, mortal enemies more often. Worry about THAT
later, too.
Agro burst out of the arena's gate with Bindi at his side and the handful of
rebels at his heels. There were Usurper's men in the street, but they seemed
disorganized. Probably shaken and confused by the explosions, who wouldn't be? It
was tempting, it would have been easy to cut down four or five of the nearest ones
before they realized there was a fight going on, but he resisted. A fight would
shake them out of their confusion faster than anything, and as long as they were
milling uselessly asking each other what was going on, he had an edge. He needed to
use it to get himself, Bindi, and these men who trusted him out of town.
He picked the street with the fewest soldiers on it and set off at a run.

Between Morya and Rocanis:

Rokori Klee had chosen their route well, and they got clear of the volcanic area
without meeting any miners. Or anything else. Except for the disgruntled miners
they had left behind, staring at the river of lava which had been their mining
claims, they met nothing alive.
Or anything dead, Iron Talon noted silently. This bizarre landscape of burning
rocks and smoky air would be just the place for meeting some kind of undead
THING...like that one! Something that might be a skeleton wavered in the near
distance, gleaming white as bone.
"Don't think!" Bill said sharply. "The coruscine may have left a magical
residue that will take months to disperse, and a careless thought could bring
disaster on us in an instant." When the white-shining thing came closer, proving to
be an animated skeleton such as Iron Talon had imagined, he said sharply, "There are
no animated skeletons here! There are no creatures of undeath!"
The skeleton collapsed in a clatter of bones, then crumbled to dust.
"Oh...." Iron Talon looked down at what remained of her accidental creation.
"If I were to imagine..." she squinted into the smoky clouds, "someone who might be
dead, for instance, if I were to really BELIEVE that I saw Lugard coming out of that
fold of the hills over there...."
     "Don't!" Bill yelped.
It was too late. Someone was coming out of the crease in the hills, and it
looked very much like Lugard.
"Why not?" Iron Talon asked, grinning. "If it works...."
"What if he didn't die, and now there are two of him?" Rokori Klee asked.
"And even if there's only the one, made by chance and magic and desire," Bill
said grimly, "it isn't what you think. Not the same person you remember, and not
anyone you want to know."
"You're just an old wet blanket," Iron Talon snapped. "I don't believe you, and
I won't listen." She turned her horse and spurred it toward the approaching figure.
Bill and Rokori started after her.
"It might actually be Lugard," Rokori offered after a moment. "We don't KNOW
that he died."
"And pigs might fly, too," the young magician said bitterly. "If either of us
had a bow, I'd say shoot it now, before it can do anything."
"Sounds extreme," the Dark Arena Shew said. "Does being a golem mean it has to
be bad?"
"Under the circumstances, yes, it does. The circumstances here couldn't produce
anything BUT a malign creature." He glanced at his big companion. "I'm not just
saying that, but the situation is too complex for easy explanations. Just...if that
is a magical construct, it's an enemy."
"You won't convince Iron Talon of that," Rokori Klee said. "She sees what she
wants to see."
"Karn and Demnat!" Bill growled. "It's no wonder the Governors of the Academy
advise against contact with women. They're impossible, unreasonable,
unpredictable--"
"No worse than men," the Shew answered. "It's just part of being alive." He
was standing in his stirrups, and since he was a very tall man on a very tall horse,
he could see a long ways. But the drifting clouds of smoke and steam from the
eruption masked large parts of the landscape, and now Iron Talon and the Lugard-image
were both out of sight. "They might have gone into that little valley yonder," he
muttered anxiously.
"This is an unstable area," Bill said. "They might have fallen through an
accidental Gate, too."

Ibizond, Korga, and in between:

Fist of Kjarran strode briskly along the road that ran east from Ibizond. It
would eventually reach Malcorn and then Zuwayza, but that was several days away even
if nothing came of this effort to catch the killer. What kind of man, he wondered
would haunt a lonely stretch of road and kill only single travelers after dark? A
coward, for one thing. But it might be useful to consider the other factors; after
all, the ambush ahead that was supposed to catch the killer might fail. He could end
up fighting alone. His hand caressed the hilt of his sword. And he'd do very well
by himself, if he had to.
The Murskan, Cadal, believed the killer was a non-human monster of some sort,
perhaps a demon. It would be a feather in his cap to kill a demon.... But he had to
remember that he wasn't out here for glory, even when the glory would honor mighty
Kjarran, and his daughter Jayde, too, of course. He was here to rid the area of a
killer. He peered sharply into the trees on either side of the road. Though the sun
had not yet vanished behind the western hills, the woods were already filled with
shadow. Anything could be hiding there.
In fact, Aghtamar, Zilla, and Cadal were hiding there, somewhere a little
farther ahead. No human would detect them, Fist believed. Cadal might be a semi-
barbarian, as all the Murskans were, and a second-rate gladiator (for a Lord
Protector), but he knew what he was doing in the woods. Fist sighed and shook his
head. What the Murskans should be doing in the woods was cutting down the trees and
planting beans. Oh, well. Doubtless that would come in time, as they absorbed
civilization from their more enlightened neighbor, the Glorious Empire.
Meanwhile, there was the killer. The sun was balanced on the rim of the hills,
and the shadows were stretching out of the forest and across the road. It was time
for the killer to appear.
As though his thought had conjured the sound, he heard hoofs on the road ahead
of him. No one had mentioned the killer being mounted. Could this be a chance
victim? Some unfortunate traveler from the east who didn't know the risk he was
taking? The rider was still out of sight, as the road ahead curving and slanting
into a valley dark with trees. That valley would be a good place for the killer to
set his ambush.... Or for Cadal to set his! Fist had a sudden vision of the killer
and the gladiators facing each other across the road, waiting for a victim to walk
into their trap. He resisted the urge to laugh; after all, it could be true! He
also resisted the urge to break into a run, which would tire out him right when he
might be needing his full strength.
Somewhere ahead, but farther away than the horseman, a hound bayed, answered by
two more. At least, Fist of Kjarran was fairly sure they were hounds, and not
wolves. But it was enough to make anyone's blood run cold, and that alone might have
scared a timid traveler to death. And who would be hunting with hounds along this
road at night? Fist wasn't a country boy, but something seemed out of step in this.
Maybe the killer used the hounds to terrify his victims? In any case, the horsemen
in the valley was in danger.
Fist paused to listen. He had lost track of the hoofbeats when he'd heard the
baying, but now he picked them up again. They were faster-paced, but...they didn't
seem to be getting any closer. He shuddered in sympathy for the rider as he hurried
ahead. It must be like one of those nightmares where you run and run and can't
escape.
Darkness filled the little valley like a pool of water. Fist had the
unreasonable feeling that he should hold his breath as he descended. There was a
thin wail from below, then shouts and the clangor of swords. He broke into a trot.
Some other traveler must have drawn the killer and sprung the ambush before he got
there!
At the bottom of the valley, the road crossed a stream. The woods were broken
there so that some moonlight came down onto the bridge and the struggle going on
there. Swords flickered in reflected moonlight, and shadows surged back and forth.
Fist drew his sword. One shadow detached itself from the struggle. It was
silhouetted briefly against the white foam of the stream: a gigantic hound, black as
hate except for crimson ears and eyes that burned like fire. It bayed as it raced
along the road toward Fist of Kjarran.
Fist shuddered. You didn't have to be timid for that sound and sight to freeze
your blood! But he was a gladiator, a Lord Protector, a faithful follower of Kjarran
and Jayde. No dog was going to intimidate him. He steadied his sword to receive the
charge.

Near Zukal:

After the thing--shadow, demon, whatever it was--left, Ghenis sat and stared
into the night for a long time. He kept the fire up, even though he didn't need it
for heat; fire might be a defense, and the thing might come back. He stayed awake
just in case that happened; this wouldn't be the first night he'd gone without sleep.
Better to be tired in the morning than dead. And he had some serious thinking to do.
He glanced around his campsite quickly. The horse was calm enough now, no need
to worry about it running off. Besides, it would have to get past him to get out of
the enclosure formed by the broken walls. Veleks was asleep, or unconscious, and
just as well. The little thief was a useful tool, but not for thinking.
What was this thing that he'd seen, that had driven Veleks, who feared water, to
risk drowning rather than be caught? He'd been thinking of it as a sort of demon,
but what sort? His defenses here would stop natural predators such as wolves, but
not demons; for that, he should have needed something magical. Could his amulet have
been protection enough? He didn't think so, especially since he hadn't called on the
power behind it. So was this... thing some kind of natural predator? And if so,
where had it come from? Why had it appeared now when there was no indication of such
a creature prowling the area in the past?
And what would it DO to its victims besides drive them into a frenzy of terror?
Was that all it wanted, or would it have killed Veleks if it had caught him?
And most important of all, what use could he and his masters make of this new
thing?
Come morning, and even the gray and rainy light was welcome, though. Ghenis
wanted to get back to Zukal as quickly as possible. With Veleks riding double with
him on his one horse, that wasn't as quickly as he hoped for. He thought of leaving
his henchman at one of the smaller towns outside the city--his cult had contacts in
several of them, and there were hangouts for thieves in general where the man would
have been accepted if not welcomed. But Veleks wouldn't have it. He would stay with
his leader who had rescued him from the monster, and not in some flimsy village inn.
Suggestions that they part company always resulted in the little thief bursting into
tears, which was damned embarrassing.
Veleks was being a nuisance, so much so that Ghenis found himself wishing the
little thief had died yesterday. The man's nerve had been broken, and Ghenis was
beginning to wonder whether the break might be permanent. That would spell trouble
for all involved. There was no place for a broken man among the servants of the dark
cult.
The obvious thing would be to kill the wretch. But the gladiator found it hard
to follow through on that while Veleks was looking at him so gratefully. It would be
like kicking a puppy, and while he was prepared, in theory, to kick puppies if that's
what needed doing, it wasn't an easy thing to contemplate in cold blood. Perhaps he
could send Veleks somewhere far away, to some place where the little thief could be
sure of never meeting one of the monsters again. Hmm, if water provided safety,
perhaps he could send Veleks along with a mission to Niatoli Island that was in
preparation.
Yes, Niatoli Island would be the place for Veleks now. He'd see about getting
the thief onto the next ship headed that way.

Near Malcorn:

Blackie, Lord Malcorn of Malcorn, stood next to the ancient stone and waited for
the moon to rise. It would be full tonight, and he knew, because he knew most of the
natural world around Malcorn, that when it reached a certain height above the
horizon, it would shine through the hole in a more distant rock and strike squarely
onto the face of the rock beside him, revealing carvings that had been old when the
first Lord Malcorn came to this land. The records of his ancestors said that the
Dregur were accustomed to gathering here when the moon was just so.
"I must be insane," Tiljanz muttered behind him.
"Courage and a sense of responsibility often looks like madness," Blackie
agreed, "even to the people exhibiting it. You didn't have to come here tonight, but
you felt it was the right thing to do. I can respect that in a man. A lot."
"Will it do any good?" the young Karnhorn asked curiously. "We've turned the
Dregur loose, and I'd think it hard if not impossible to rein them back in."
"We turned them loose under terms," Blackie said. His voice hardened, becoming
the voice of the Lord of Malcorn. "They have not kept those terms. They were to
attack only those who came here following Inzolas. That a few innocents might get
caught in that net by accident was... almost inevitable. But some of the Dregur have
been actively hunting those not indicated by the terms of their release." He was
silent for a long moment, then shrugged. "I'm not certain that we can put an end to
these... excesses. But I am very certain that if we don't protest, the situation
will become worse. A failure to protest will be seen as an admission of weakness."
Tiljanz shrugged. It sounded like politics as usual, or at least, the politics
of those he dealt with, the lesser lords within the Glorious Empire. Vicious
infighting was the order of the day in those circles. "I trust your judgment in
this, as I must, of course." He glanced at the sky uneasily. "And I should think we
don't have much longer to wait...."
"No." Blackie watched the moonlight appear in the eye of the distant stone and
slant across the clearing, creeping along the face of the stone beside him. It
wouldn't be long now.
The finger of light slid across the surface and touched the worn carvings, which
leaped into sudden clarity. The little clearing, which had been empty except for the
two of them, was suddenly full of shadows. Or something. Tiljanz could feel the
weight of a dozen minds thinking about him--calculating minds, hostile minds, hungry
ones. He held himself still and quiet with difficulty. This was Lord Malcorn's
meeting; he himself was just present as a witness.
Words came out of the darkness, hollow as caves, clear as trumpets. "Why are
you here, Malcorn?"

                                      SPY REPORT

Well, what are you looking at, MORYA? Ain't you never seen Snide Clemens
before? Ah, shaddup and listen to my news. Later days, UGLY URBAN ORCS, since BAD
GERMS took top team from you this turn, you guys are old news. If Arthur's Last
Stand is buying drinks for LUNAE MILITES' good turn, I'm afraid the place will be dry
before long. A 4-1-1 makes for a big thirst. With any luck, I can sneak into
Arthur's Last Stand and join WENSINWASIN G.T.'s celebration over their good record
this turn. 7th place, not bad. If Arthur's Last Stand is buying drinks for KESSEN's
good turn, I'm afraid the place will be dry before long. A 5-0-0 makes for a big
thirst. With any luck, I can sneak into Arthur's Last Stand and join 5 BELOW ZERO's
celebration over their good record this turn. 18th place, not bad. If Arthur's Last
Stand is buying drinks for LEE FAMILY's good turn, I'm afraid the place will be dry
before long. A 3-2-0 makes for a big thirst. With any luck, I can sneak into
Arthur's Last Stand and join GUARDIAN'S GAMBIT's celebration over their good record
this turn. 21st place, not bad. Oh, this is too good to be true! MAGICAL MADNESS
has fallen to 24th place after going 2-3-0 this turn. Who's bragging now? If
Arthur's Last Stand is buying drinks for FLOWER HAMMERZ's good turn, I'm afraid the
place will be dry before long. A 3-2-1 makes for a big thirst. Look out below!
TEAM SLAYER is on the way down, falling to 26th from 9th with a 0-5-0! Ha ha ha ha!
Why not, I'm having a good day, so I feel sorry for CHAOSITECTS, who went 1-4-0 and
dropped 22 into 27th. Here's my pity, for what it's worth. Look out below!
DEMO-SQUAD is on the way down, falling to 35th from 16th with a 2-3-0! Ha ha ha ha!
Gee, I'm impressed, a 3-1-0 is nice, but don't get cocky, BOXOROX, the Fates teach
humility, and the Fates are proud. Of course, we're all terribly impressed to see
PARADOX win a fight and gain 26 points, terribly. Tsk, tsk, PARADOX beat CALLISTO
and CALLISTO lost 24 points. You're breakin' my heart. LUCKY LUCIEN challenged
MORYA's Duelmaster for a shot at the throne. And it's out with the old, in with the
new, as LUCKY LUCIEN takes the Title and last week's bar tab from the old Duelmaster.
Heh, heh. Kickbacks and bribes, kickbacks and bribes, how else do you think some of
these guys win their fights? Skill? Ha!
Well, let's take a look at some more misdeeds of you miserable sword-boys.
DEMO-SQUAD, I suppose you'll be glad to know you were this turn's most avoided team.
Care to know who is the most afraid of you? And who led the way in this mass act of
cowardice? Let's see, well, whatcha know? It was TEAM SLAYER. Ha ha ha ha! Ooh,
I'm frightfully impressed, INFINITY was this turn's most challenged warrior. Watch
that ego swell, sports fans. I guess I can give a little credit to SKADI of VALHALLA
for challenging up by 24 to MR BOOK. SKADI lost to get 5 points of recognition. And
we have LAVA RUNNER in a challenge, going down 12 points for the fight. Guess what?
I thought LAVA RUNNER showed great skill and promise when he defeated FILTH. All
right, so I slept through it! Big deal!
Some people like volunteer work in the hospitals. I volunteer for MORYA's
morgue. More variety. Whoa! I'll even buy BACH a drink tonight! Anyone who can
come back from the Dark Arena, I want to be on his good side! A big yahoo goes out
to ALLURE this turn, for revenging MAGICAL MADNESS' bloodfeud against LADZ OF
LUGBURZ's warrior GROTTRAK THE SNEAK. Heh, heh, heh. Titanium shields and bamboo
daggers, guess what brave team is developing these kinds of weapons?
What does the MORYA arena have in common with the inns? It's just as
comfortable to sleep in either place. Ha ha ha ha! Just wait 'till next time I show
up here, I won't be so nice! So nyaaah! I see the crowds are getting restless, I
must leave now-- Snide Clemens

Maximillian -- It appears that fortune favors the foolish! My four replacement
rollups were blessed one and all. Two of them appear to be Primus candidates. While
I cannot fight them now, perhaps I will be able to run them in the Fall Mail-In
tourney as Rookies. I regret that I am unable to display their talents for all to
see at this time. -- Kalkin

Hammer -- I have not forgotten the gauntlet which Thun D'Ar hath cast down. THAT is
the only reason Thun D'Ar still lives. For good or ill, when I am able, I will find
a way to advance him to pluck your Gardenia with his blade. -- Kalkin

Hammer -- Curses, your contest creates large newsletters, which in turn, means it
looks like I'm going to have to come up with a new DM filing methodology. -- Crip

Terrible Totomac -- This appears to be a long hot summer that I'm enduring. -- Ray D
Aytor

Blackstaff -- Wow! That's 11 in 2 fights. Eventually I'll win simply by default. --
Axle Foley

High Speed -- How dare you bust through my bloodfeud challenge. -- Freddy Fender

All -- I would like it to be known that I, Phat Phat, have joined Vendetta Cartel. --
Phat Phat mgr. Sretsamleud

All -- I will be back up to running a full team again this turn with two new
recruits! -- Shadowgate

All -- I would like to enter Spirit of Shadow Gate into the Striker style master
contest. -- Shadowgate

All -- I would like to enter Battle of Shadow Gate into the Total Parry style master
contest. -- Shadowgate

Whisper -- I am coming for you! Star will be avenged! -- Dream

Blackheart -- Nicely done. -- S.A.D.M.

Tyr -- That will teach you Orcs to go picking on Dwarfs! We are small but tough!! --
C-4

Frigg -- I had to go slower after that fight! We will meet again and then I will
send your scummy butt running for the door!!! I will bring a more appropriate weapon
and you will then know pain in its most pure form. -- R.D.X.

Asteroids -- Ouch! Game--Set--and Match. Good luck. -- Blast Radius

Farkle -- Boy-o-Boy did Shadowmere scream at me for losing to your stable. One more
loss and I'm off to the dark arena! Now I know what a lawn dart feels like. How
embarrassing. -- Det-Cord

Hammer -- Bring on the madness! I seem to recall one of your stable listed on my
strat sheet. I welcome any and all educational moments. Due to some complications
my letter to you will be late. Best of luck on the sands. -- Shadowmere

Dr. Mabuse -- Try not to tag too many losses my way. I'd like to be able to graduate
a warrior here and there you know. I feel your pain on that replacement. Been
there. -- Shadowmere

Fizban -- Excellent turn! -- Shadowmere

Rook -- Sorry I've been slow in generating business for you. I'll try to correct
that shortly. Just keep the demo-squad in ale! -- Shadowmere

Maximillian -- Pride left last turn. Does that mean I fall this turn? Remember,
cynics do not contribute, skeptics do not create, doubters do not achieve--and I will
achieve success...just as soon as I figure out how! -- Shadowmere

Mr. Infinity is a PS run by Slugbait of Ugly Urban Orcs.

Paddy Sweeney -- Oops! Not what you expected, I guess. -- Dakini Rouge

Iris -- I can't believe my manager still hasn't DA'd me. What is he thinking? --
Tuesday's Child

Usurper -- Nice match! Maybe if you get even more tourneyed up, you will have a
chance. -- Six

Broadside -- Ouch! I would say your future looks brilliant, but anyone who defeats
me is automatically cursed with bad luck. I'm sorry, but that's just the way it is.
-- Gypsy

Mozart -- I would like to try that again and see if Six's advice about hitting the
weight room helped me or not. Hope to see you soon. -- Philippa

Wimpy -- If you could get your challenges through to my warriors, it might help my
win percentage. Thanks. -- Chain

Lady Martilyo -- I hate to say it, but it might be broke. Better start fix'n it. :)
-- Chain

Deborah -- Nice challenge. You just happened to challenge when I had made up my mind
that I was not going to take these losses lying down. -- Twitter

Nirvana -- Gosh, I got you desperate then I couldn't hit you any more. I did need
the skills however, so I guess it was worth it. -- Pettifogger

Det-Cord -- Normally I would be very, very scared of you. However, you have to find
a way to set yourself off. Otherwise what good are you? -- Farkle

Lady Maria -- Ouch! A maul to the throat must be quite painful. How long before you
can talk again? -- Pat Tikakes

Madness Maniacs -- The college computer lab has been closed for semester break and I
was unable to get to a computer in time to write Spots or P-ads. Hopefully next ish
will be on track! -- Hammer

Madness Managers -- Looks like it got broke by going 0-5 last turn. If things fail
to improve this cycle, I will have to send some strategy adjustments to the
Gladiatorial Commission. -- Lady Martilyo

Magical Madness -- It'z been a long time since me and da boyz hav frezsh meat. Manic
Mage don't tazte toz bad for a Harkeny. -- Grottrak

Sulkagim -- Youz hit 'ard for a little one. -- Nerf

Galo -- Youz muzt do betta than that to put me down. -- Shaguk

Lady Emelita -- All that for one stinking skill. -- Thrakklash

Gritbucks -- What a horrid fight! Not for the loss, but because I taught you what I
did. I foresee that more such challenges will be coming my way. -- Young Joan

Bobby Clobber -- I won't make Joan's mistake and teach so well. Be warned. --
Selumia

Immortal Coil -- Hmm (erp!), you're certainly (erp!) twisted up tight! That (erp!)
can't be good for (erp!) you in the long run. -- Wyatt Burp

Yip Again -- And again and again, I noticed. Redundant. -- Torpedo

Assur -- I barely noticed your comment among all the, um, other stuff. No, I should
never be surprised. Everything happens sooner or later, and some things happen all
the time. -- Uncle Wolf
P.S. What were we talking about?

Maximilian -- Why not? No spring to your legs? -- Torpedo

Lost: 1 set of managing skills. if found please return to CFH. Thank you.

Cartel -- *sigh* I don't know what's wrong with me. Maybe it takes a nasty little
conflict to bring out the best in me. Sad, very sad. -- CFH

Assurnasirbanipal invites you to Talcama to participate in the third BATTLE
ROYAL contest. It is a Delarquan contest so brutal that even some of Talcama's most
notable managers will refuse to participate. The rules are simpler than any other
contest: You may not avoid any other contest team. There are no silly rules for who
can and can't compete. Any team in Talcama is eligible to compete. The scoring is
also quite simple (+1 for a win, +1 for a kill (+1 for the win), -1 for a loss) and
the first team to reach 25 points is the winner.
Scoring will be live--the results for the turn posted in the newsletter. The
winner will be able to fight their contest team in Talcama for free for 6 months but
more importantly will win a contest against some of the best managers who play the
game in one of the hardest contests in the game.
First turn for BATTLE ROYAL 3 is Talcama Turn 465, which is due August 30.

Citizens of Ghea (only the ignorant fail to note Lirith Kai is not in Alastari),
no new day is rising, but the sun is setting on just another beautiful evening.
While you were sleeping, an irksome rabble has entered the always fair Aruak City.
Of course they fought alongside our warriors, most not so treasured, as all
gladiators do. They drank with themselves, and slept with themselves. Whether they
had masks, who cares.
Warriors, don't be afraid. For years Aruak has been one of the safest cities in
Ghea, and that custom has been continually cultivated, and will continue to be by
those who have called it home for years and those who live, fight, and die by the
same ethics. There is no contest, nor has there ever needed to be one for many
years. A conflict of personalities has arisen, and the city has been 'invaded' by
pests.
Any rules that are annouced will be purely for the joy of the lemmings' own
little world. Those who are being targeted have no interest in participating except
to defend the integrity of an arena that is different from others. Whether you
choose to come to Aruak, do it for your own reasons, not theirs.
Competing in Aruak City has never been for the faint of heart or the weak willed.
Combat is combat, wherever you go. Blood will flow as always, and now many innocents
will be caught in the middle, but those who defend Aruak's traditions never target
those who bring respect of Aruaki customs with them to our home.
So ignore the private ranting announcement brought by the stuporous
Frothingsloshers. If you choose Aruak City, do not choose it for an unsanctioned and
bogus 'contest', choose it for the tradition. Choose it because Aruak is different.
