TEAM SPOTLIGHT
Hail, fellow warriors. I and my team of fierce fighters are new to this sport,
but we love the call of battle. From what we've seen, this looks to be a fun and
worthy way to keep our abilities up to par.
I bring you tidings of great joy. Well, for me anyway. After many years of
fighting and winning wars, we've decided to take a much needed break in a safer
environment for some deserved R&R.
So let me introduce your future combatants. Chase will slip up unseen and run
you to ground. Gratch enjoys ripping foes apart in his spare time before getting
down to business. Chandalen is a great friend, but once riled, he takes no prisoners
and gives no quarter. The venomous Scarlet will give you a monster of a time. She
loves the taste of blood while savoring a victory. And last but certainly not least,
there's the beautiful but deadly Jennsen. She can give as good as she gets.
I look forward to testing wits as we take our rightful spots as leaders of the
people. For those that don't die, I might even buy you a round of ale with our
winnings.

Elsewhere:
Necroma scrubbed her hands over her face. Her hands were shaking, and there
were tears on her face. She was not surprised. "I never imagined anything like
that," she said. "None of my teachers mentioned such creatures, either. How can
that be? They were good teachers."
"Few return alive to tell of the spirit-wolves," Young Joan said.
"If I'd been alone, I wouldn't have survived them," Necroma answered.
Joan shrugged. "Bad briefing. It happens. Do we continue to try following the
man with the cloak of souls?"
"Can we still follow him?" Cloudrider asked. "I mean, is there still any kind
of trail?"
Both were silent for several minutes, consulting their ghosts, Necroma guessed.
She extended her own senses as she'd been taught, seeking, well, anything at all.
She didn't really know what she might find or feel. Nothing. How could there be
nothing? That man was out there, and probably other things like the spirit-wolves
that no one had told her about. She "looked" harder. There must be something out
there.
Near Zuwayza:
"Guarantees! A mortal dares speak to us of--"
"Of course I do. Don't take us all for fools," Wolf said. "This now is not the
world you knew, and we will not have it returned to the old ways. You know that
going back on the tracks of time is," he hesitated, "unwise."
"We do know it," the Dark Hunter admitted. Agro thought he sounded reluctant
and willing to try what going backward would do. "But I cannot give you the
guarantees you seek, I speak only for myself and many of my fellows are eager to be
free in the world--"
"You are the Huntsman," Wolf countered. "Your word can bind or unbind the
others, save only such renegades as may appear, and those you are bound to seek out
for their denial of your authority. Is this not true?"
A moment of silence. "You are well taught," the Dark Hunter said grudgingly.
"Yes, this is true. But... we may have reasons not to move too quickly to bring the
renegades to heel."
"We could talk back and forth on this till the sun rises," Wolf said. "You know
what I want, I know what you want. Let us agree to act in good faith--"
"Or what? You have a pledge from the Great Ones, yes, but They are not here.
How will you express your displeasure, if things do not go as you think they should?"
"I will not express my displeasure to you directly," the old shaman answered.
Agro wondered how he could sound so calm in the face of barely veiled threats. "I
will express it to Lord Malcorn and let HIM explain your errors to you."
The longest silence so far. What was this creature thinking? What could it do,
what could they do in return if they had to fight their way out? Agro didn't do
anything obvious like turning to examine the shadows around the little plaza, but so
far as he could without moving, he examined those shadows closely.
"Oh." Another pause. The voice sounded... depressed? Resigned? "There is no
need to bestir him. We will remember your wishes in this. It is possible that there
will be incidents," the Hunter went on, "you must know that some are inevitable, but
not... many incidents."
"Good. Let us begin, then."
Finally! Agro straightened, ready to hear a clear plan and immediate orders.
Maybe not *expecting* to hear those things, but ready for them.
"There will be many battles on many fields," the Hunter said, "but the war
against this Darkness will be won in Kurukar." The voice took on a sneer. "The
Karnhorns call it 'beautiful beach' or some such. How little they know! We who have
been in this land longer call it the Land of the Black Door. It has always been a
dangerous place, and only a mortal of strong character could resist it--as this Black
Kaliv is clearly not resisting. That door must be shut. Many will resist efforts to
shut it, of course--the Kaliv who opened it, and those who came through. But it must
be closed, and that by mortal hands."
"Mortal hands will be found for the task," Wolf said.
"I believe you. That is good, as we cannot touch the Black Door--it would
unmake us. But we can fight those who have issued froth from it, and those who guard
it. And we can guide you to places of... let us call them 'secondary infections'
which you must also fight."
"And help with those secondary centers, I have no doubt," Wolf said. "For
now... you can take on mortal flesh, I know. Not easily, perhaps, but you can. Do
so, and come with us as an ally to a place where we may make our plans."
"You ask a lot."
"How else to find the limits of what can be gotten?"
A pause. "Very well. Go to the Tavern of the Black Axe in Malcorn and I will
meet you there. The Lord Malcorn also, he may as well be informed from the
beginning, else he will suspect the worst."
Wolf bowed. "It shall be so."

DUELMASTER'S COLUMN
Notes from the arena champ.
Well, it was certainly a long time between thrones. I was first here on turn 264,
but forgot to fight on turn 265. Won the throne again on turn 266, then took a leave
of absence, and came back on turn 295 making it three consecutive turns for me on the
throne, and an invite to ADM. The commission tells me I like the Scimitar, with a
Low/Very Low Rhythm, and the Bash Tactic, while learning Decisiveness concepts.
Final numbers were 14(1)-17(1)-8-16(1)-18(1)-4-11, with Masters in Attack and
Initiative, Advanced Experts in Decise and parry, and an Expert in Defense. I'll
probably go back into retirement in the short term, but should resume fighting in
Home Guard again sometime soon.

SPY REPORT
It's me, The Unknown Spymaster here with my bag to give you the news on last
week's fights. Say good-bye to THE ANIMALS, as they are pushed from the coveted top
team spot by the FREE MASONS stable. Coming up with a solid 3-2-1 outing, FREE
MASONS has advanced 5 places in the rankings. EXPENSE ACCOUNT is no joke as it
posted a 3-1-0 week advancing from 5th place to 5th place. Hey everybody, watch out
for AARD VARK, who flew up 25 points in the rankings after mashing XANAX like a
melon. Keep your eye on this guy. And falling like a basher in the top ten was
XANAX, who dropped 14 points after a disappointing (to say the least) bout with AARD
VARK. Well here's a duelmaster that doesn't sit back and say 'Challenge me'! CAM
SHAFT made a Dark Arena Challenge against HIGH ELF this week. Going for the gusto
and coming up with aught but bloody knuckles was DARK ARENA's HIGH ELF, who was
turned away from the Duelmastership by CAM SHAFT. An apple a day keeps the doctor
away, but an onion a day keeps T.P.s at bay.
Let's dig a little deeper into what's happening in the MORYA arena. Here's a
song for you: Who's afraid of the big, bad GODS & GODDESSES? Big bad GODS &
GODDESSES. Big bad GODS & GODDESSES. MORYA's afraid of the big bad GODS &
GODDESSES. Tra la la la la! For those of you who like math, try this one: GODS &
GODDESSES + Weapons That go Boom = D'HARAN EMPIRE + Avoid City. And who is this
MORPHEUS you ask, with 10 points and a 3-1-0 record. Ooh, the tales I could tell!
HECA of FREE MASONS had better have a good reason for challenging down 9 points in a
challenge which he killed. I thought HECA showed great skill and promise when he
dispatched CHASE. All right, so I slept through it! Big deal!
Remember that an arena is not always a safe place to be, but it is one of the
most interesting, though! CAM SHAFT defied all odds and slew HIGH ELF in the Dark
Arena. The only ones displeased were the buzzards, as HIGH ELF's meat is notoriously
tough. This week 7-8-1 ZAIRE was sent to the Dark Arena. I know a lot of fighters
with similar records who might take notice of this. Congrats to STORMDANCER for
revenging the death of his teammate (but more importantly, feeding LADY ELMA a bit of
dirt). In the 'Oops, What Have I Done?' category, MARS was mashed by THE COCKROACH,
who let MARS know that killing members of FLYING MONKEYS is a no-no. Ask not the
elves for counsel, for they will say both yes and no. Silly buggers, eh?
I think I had better cut this one short. It's been nice chatting to those of
you whom I have not offended yet. C'mon, Leadfoot, let's make some tracks. Its been
fun, and I'm sure you enjoyed it (boos). Now that I've got you worked up for Snide
Clemens, I'll be leaving-- The Unknown Spymaster

A salute to Cam Shaft who pounded his way to the top. Duelmaster! I think Crip
should give you a bonus AND a salary raise. -- Finance Manager
Silky -- Welcome to Morya. (I doubt we said that earlier.) We have a great fondness
for those who graduate through Noblish Island. Jorja is a great teacher, helper, and
coordinator, isn't she? May your stay in this great competition be long and
prosperous. -- Finance Manager (Morya's Consortium representative)
Liam The Goth -- Kennelworth of Aruak City is one of our Consortium Elders and one of
the best. Others who often quote "Health. Humility. Honor." are Lenpro (Lenpros DM
30) and Fandil The Wise (DM 46). They are all Elders, near originals, and brothers.
Come on back to Aruak City (or join Iaye or Ardivent). The guys say they miss your
smiley goth face. -- Finance Manager
Briar Stem Hammer -- I told you the boss was cheap! He gave me extra incentive to
beat you when he said "I am not paying, so you'd better get Hammer to." Whew. I
lucked out in that. Thanks for paying. -- Cash Meals
Minerva -- You must have really wanted me! Thanks for the challenge. You were quite
lovely, but an other won this one. -- Other
Good luck to any and all who participate at the Minneapolis Face. The Consortium
crew is sorry that they will miss this one. See you in Tempe. -- Finance Manager
(A few Consortium warriors will be represented; wish them well.)
Well, you can't jail Fortune forever! We finally tasted defeat, after a long period
of bliss...congrats to Cam Shaft for his sneak attack and his invite.... -- Le
Pentarque
P.S. Thanks to Finance Manager, but, domination or not, it's over!
By the way, I'm about to take some holidays, and my mail is late, so the arrival of
my rookies is delayed. -- Le Pentarque
Then I will try my slashing quarterstaff.... -- Vaidisava, not very happy in Talahya
Thanks for the love, Mankiller! -- Trooper Ted, overachiever
Zaire -- I believe that qualifies as "over-bold." Never let people tell you that
"over-bold" is the same as "courageous." It isn't, even though it takes the same
space to write. -- Cloudrider
P.S. But my sincere thanks for the winning record. No telling what positive effect
that might have on the adventure, whenever the author gets done painting and laying
tiles and writes more. An adventure can use all the positive effects it can get.
Especially since everyone else involved is a graduated warrior with guaranteed
resurrection.
Sran3e -- So glad you're leaving, it's been a pain to write your name. Typists are
creatures of habit, you know. -- Lorvandis
Black Rose Hammer -- You aren't a man, so I was helpless against you. Not that I
favor black roses. That's just wrong. All the best poets say so. Red, yellow,
white, that's it. Not black. -- Mankiller
Anne Tenna -- Ouch! Remind me never to dance around you again. I kept hitting the
ground. Hard. The ground is unforgiving that way. -- Stormdancer
Silky -- Wow, pardon me while my head swells! -- Jorja
P.S. Glad to have you here. This is a good arena.
Ghost Chant, Storm Rider -- I wish you *had* missed. -- Ghost of Red Hawk
Liam -- Will do. There are always openings in adventures. The problem is finding
time to write. But that, too, will happen. -- Jorja
All -- Greetings. My apologies for not introducing myself sooner. I am Samuel
Pleasure of Pleasure Productions, manager of the Wolves. I have not had the
opportunity to venture out into Morya since we arrived. If someone could direct me
to the nearest pub, I would be happy to buy the first round. I believe some of you
have already met my warriors in the arena, Targ and Mr. Burr. My newcomers are
Daryth and Lycos, and I am on a search for a fifth. any assistance is appreciated.
-- Samuel Pleasure, manager of the Wolves
17 July 2008
All -- Many of you know me and many more don't, but I will be scarce for a few
months. I am relocating, so look for my presence online! As my will, so mote it
be! -- Abraxis

*TURF WAR VI RULES*
Starting Nov 2008 (10 turns)
Anyone may participate; known alliances, new alliances, or temporary alliances created solely to compete in the Turf War! To participate, each alliance must:
1. Announce the alliance and the Captain of the alliance in the North Fork
(DM 47) newsletter.
2. Announcements made on the D2 Forums will not be accepted.
Captains are responsible for:
1. Verifying those who wish to participate under the banner of their
alliance;
2. Distribution of prizes should their alliance win the Turf War.
3. Submit one (1) RSI Roll-Up Certificate to participate
Participating managers who are not Captains must:
1. Submit one (1) RSI Roll-Up Certificate to participate
2. Announce their intent to compete with manager name, team name, and
alliance they will represent in the North Fork (DM 47) newsletter.
Announcement made on the D2 Forums will not be accepted.
a. No scores will be tabulated until a Gift Certificate is received.
No EXCEPTIONS.
b. Before a manager can compete, he/she must declare themselves in
the North Fork (DM 47) newsletter as stated above AND be verified
by the alliance Captain they will represent.
c. Only one (1) team per player may compete. No multiple teams or
aliases will be allowed. Violations will result in immediate
disqualification from the Turf War (so be sure to take any
multiple teams OFF of Team Maintenance).
d. Scoring will NOT be retroactive for teams that do not properly
declare or fail to send a Gift Certificate by Turn 1. In other
words, if your Gift Certificate is not received until Turn 3 of
the Turf War, and you have fought on Turns 1 and 2, your scoring
will not begin until Turn 3. All conditions must be met before
scoring will begin--declaration, verification, and Gift
Certificate received.
e. No declarations or verifications will be accepted after Turn 5 of
the Turf War.
f. For purposes of scoring, the moderators will score the Turf War
and settle any and all disputes as they arise. Their decisions
will be final.
Scoring will be as follows for Fights:
Win Loss Kill Die
Challenge +2 -2 +5 -5
Match Up +1 -1 +1 -5
Bloodfeud +2 -5 +5 -10
Champion x2 x2 x2 x2
Dark Arena* +10 -5 xx xx

Champions:
1. A Champion may be declared, but one is not mandatory.
2. Only one Champion allowed per manager at any given time.
3. Champions that graduate or are killed by another warrior in the arena, but
not the Dark Arena, may be replaced.
4. Champions must be in the Adepts bracket or lower on the turn they are
declared, and may NOT have gone above Adepts level at any time; this
includes teams transferred into North Fork for the Turf War.
Bloodfeuds:
1. Bloodfeuds will score points on all four (4) turns.
2. There is no limit to which warrior may bloodfeud or how often.
Tournament Considerations:

(1) time bonus of 50 points. This bonus will apply EACH time a
warrior(s) win such status.
4. Points for TVs and TCs will be applied the Turn after RSI posts
tournament results in the North Fork (DM 47) newsletter (i.e., if the
results post on North Fork turn 275, points will be credited on North
Fork turn 276 to the applicable teams).
Special Considerations:
1. Each alliance begins the Turf War with zero (0) points.
2. There will be NO alliance or team changes once the contest has begun. If
you begin the Turf War with Alliance A, you must end the Turf War with
Alliance A. If you begin the Turf War with Team A, you must end the Turf
War with Team A.
3. There will be a maximum of seven (7) teams allowed per alliance for the
Turf War.
4. The Dark Arena may be used on the first turn only, of every warrior,
without penalty.

The Turf War is a "winner take all" contest. All prizes and 100% of the Gift
Certificates will be awarded to the Captain of the winning alliance. It is the
responsibility of the Captain to distribute Gift Certificates. Moderators will
submit a list of each manager on the winning alliance to RSI at the completion of the
contest for the non-Certificate prizes.
The following prizes have been secured from RSI:
1. Renaming of the North Fork (DM 47) arena;
2. Renaming of Dark Arena Monsters (one for each manager in the winning
alliance);
3. Known Favorites for one warrior on each team of the winning alliance
(warrior must be ranked Initiate or above, must be alive, and must have
at least one arena fight to receive this award).

warrior from (DM 47)
These awards will be listed by the Moderator for claiming from RSI (Lee) within 4
turns of the end of TW VI.

The Moderators for this event will be Oz and Master Darque. They will arbitrate all
dealings during the course of the contest. Their decisions will be final. All
questions, comments, and scoring disputes may be directed to Land of Oz or Darque
Forces via diplo in DM 47. Managers with internet access may send a private message
to [The Consortium] or [Darque] on the Duel2 Forums. Lastly, you may also email
