TEAM SPOTLIGHT

"He killed my troll! I want him dead!"
Of all the ways to enter a room and be noticed, Water Rat had just used one of
the most common ones. The huge oak door to Longshot's study crashed into the wall it
was hinged to and made a loud cracking sound. Longshot's study was full of its usual
clutter of books. To the side he had a small table that acted as his bar. On top of
it rested a humidor full of cigars and next to it was a crimson bottle of whiskey.
Longshot quickly stood up and cursed under his breath at the pain that shot up
through his left knee. The old wound never healed right and the cool, damp autumn
air of Morya caused it to throb. A sniff of the crystal tumbler on his desk would
tell that the dark, amber coloured liquid wasn't tea, but a large serving of the
whiskey from the bar. Sitting across from Longshot was an Araoi. Possibly a
replacement for Jackie, who was slain the week before.
"What are you carrying on about?" Longshot asked. His rich baritone voice
rumbled from his large frame. The elf never turned to see what the commotion was
about. He sat and sipped his tea. You could tell that it was tea because of the tea
pot on the serving cart sitting next to a small pitcher of milk and a honey pot with
a small wooden spoon sticking out of it.
"What am I carrying on about? That jackass... what's his name?"
"Klyde Spectre?"
"That's the one. He killed my troll! I want him dead!"
"Don't worry about it. He...."
"And then you send Marin to blood feud? Marin?!?!?! No offense, she doesn't
have that much experience and I seriously doubt she could beat him. And... and... He
killed my troll. That jackass must pay!"
Longshot moved from behind the desk.
"Remind me to give you a biology lesson on trolls." Longshot said.
"What?"
The manager of the Lords of Discipline sighed and looked over at the elf sitting
there quietly. This situation was becoming more and more embarrassing. The elf
never acknowledged what was going on. He was too busy adding more honey from the pot
on the tea service to his cup. It was as if none of them were in the room with him.
"Jackie!" Longshot shouted. Water Rat looked puzzled. Why was Longshot
shouting out the name of his dead friend?
Outside of the room came the thumping sounds of something big. Really big. And
it was moving towards them. The elf never turned. He just seemed to be staring off
at nothing and sipping his tea. Finally the scaly, grey skinned troll named Big Guy
Jackie squeezed his way into the room. He was huge. His head looked like a large
stone carving with big floppy ears and a huge bulbous nose. His eyes were the color
of blood and always unnerved those not used to him. He had an underbite with two
thrusting fangs poking out. The troll had a big grin on his face and an odd skull
cap on his head. The skull cap was black and clung tightly to his head as if it was
painted on. To either side of the cap were two black circles that made it look like
the troll had mouse ears.
"Wahtta! I was in da' coat yard lookin' fer you," the troll bellowed and put
Water Rat in a great bear hug. The troll meant he was in the 'court yard'. But no
one was going to dare and correct him. He then picked the tiny man up and cuddled
him the same way a human would cuddle a kitten.
"Funny thing about trolls. They regenerate." Longshot said trying not to laugh
at how ridiculous the scene was. Water Rat was being smothered and was unable to
reply. He simply gave a thumbs up. Longshot continued. "When I first recruited
Jackie, I told him that 'no one would hurt him because he was so big. He mistook it
as no one would try and hit him. So, he pretty much threw all defenses to the wind.
I tried to convince him that he would be hurt, but he wouldn't listen and only
reminded me of our 'deal'. I've been looking for his replacement for weeks now.
Klyde killing him was the perfect way of getting Jackie back on the side lines."
Jackie had finally put Water Rat back on the ground.
"So, there is no Blood Feud?" Water Rat asked as he straightened his clothes and
wiped away the troll drool from his face.
"Yes. There will be one. I even told the commission that Jackie was still
alive. But they want it to go forward. It seems blood feuds sell tickets. So, I am
sending Marin in to let her prove herself."
"Do you think she can win?" Water Rat asked his manager.
"I am sending Marin in to let her prove herself."
"Ahhhhhh... I see." Water Rat said with a wink. The young man was ecstatic. He
had his old friend back. The two ran out of the room and the sound of Water Rat's
aughter could be heard from down the hall.
Longshot turned his attention back to his guest.
"Sorry about that. More tea?"

SPY REPORT

Hail and well met warriors of MORYA! Know me for who I am, Zontani Sharp Eyes,
Spymaster extraordinaire of all Alastari. The proverbial rising comet can only hope
to compare with MOST LEE's team record! A 5-0-0 week and now a firm grasp on a 4th
place ranking. There were bitter words at GHOSTWALKERS' guildhouse after a 0-0-0
showing this week which dropped the stable into 19th. Dark Arena anyone?
CONFIDENTIAL LEE caught the eye of many in the gladiatorial commission as he
skillfully bested KATAMERU and was awarded 20 points in recognition. In one of the
week's more notable duels, CONFIDENTIAL LEE put down KATAMERU, causing it to lose 14
points of recognition in the process. Due to its absence and inability to defend the
throne, TRAVEL has lost the title of Duelmaster. This time victory fell to the grasp
of the usurper. All hail WATER RAT, Duelmaster of MORYA! Would you believe that
over half of the old women in MORYA seem to feel that they could fight better than
you gladiators?
But come now, let us look deeper into the maze of contention and crossed blades
that is city MORYA. I saw one fighter that warriors avoided when this week's
challenge seeking began. JUGGALO RYDAZ is feared. This much I can say. Apparently
the stalwarts of NEW MISFITS are catching the bulk of jests down at the challenging
board for their large share of the avoids. Mighty fighters cannot but expect
competition from those below. KLYDE SPECTRE take warning! You have more than a few
enemies in MORYA. I can not but mention with disdain the name of MONGO CRUSH who
this week posted a challenge to a warrior a full 15 points below in the rankings. I
thought MONGO CRUSH showed great skill and promise when he defeated BIG GUT. All
right, so I slept through it! Big deal!
What warrior does not hone his years, impatiently waiting for the moment of his
foe's mortality? URANUS has sworn to take up religion upon living to tell of his
recent bout with the Dark Arena horrors. A rare thing indeed! Fate is a fickle
mistress. She showers the miserable with fortune but sets enemies against the
victorious. Remember this!
The girls are as pretty in MORYA as ever I remembered them....and the fighters
as ugly! Don't let your reputation slip! Ahh, but I can hear the spires of a far
off city calling to me. I must away! Till next we meet remember: a fool flies into

SLAUGHTER CHALLENGE 2

Several years ago I ran a contest known as the "Slaughter Challenge" which was the
idea of a member of my alliance at the time. We unfortunately lost him during a
robbery attempt at the store he worked at. This November will mark the 10th
anniversary of his passing so I have decided to run the Slaughter Challenge again in
remembrance of him.

Rich Hammes was a member of my alliance, the Vendetta Cartel, and had sponsored me
into the alliance. Rich was a common poster to both the Yahoo Duelmasters group as
well as the Duel2 boards and our Alliance's Yahoo group. He went by the handle
GameOgre on the Duel2 boards and was known by the name Abarsis, the Slaughter Priest.
He was a very kind and thoughtful man who always had time to talk with not only his
alliance-mates but anyone else who wanted to discuss Duelmasters. He also had time
to talk with anyone about personal life issues if he felt he could help. He was a
daily, and prolific, poster to these sites and seemed to enjoy the interaction with
others regarding this game that he loved so much.

I would also like everyone to know that he spent several years in the US Navy serving
on a Nuclear attack Submarine in protection of our nation. He was well loved, and
well known, by the community in which he lived even spending time at a local Ice
Cream Shop around closing time to assure that the lady who owned the store was safe
as she was often alone when she closed her shop. He was a well known and much loved
member of his local community. His death was grieved by his local San Diego
community where they held a candle-light vigil for him and many expressed their
disbelief that he was gone. These are just a scant few examples of what a kind and
caring man he was and why not only our gaming community lost a great deal on that
fateful day, but also shows why there was tremendous sadness among the community in
which he lived.

It is near to 10 years since his passing and there are many times I wonder, "What
would Rich think about this...." I miss my friend dearly to this day and I hope you
will come join us in this contest idea which he himself came up with. He thought we
should all learn to appreciate what Jorja does to keep our smaller arenas alive and
populated!

The contest will be held in Morya, arena 28, beginning on the turn that is due on
November 6th, 2014 (turn 378 I believe). Tourney participation is not allowed during
the contest but the contest will start after the fall Mailer so you can get your
warriors a few fight experience should you choose to. The timing of the contest was
done to allow entry into the fall mailer.

The rules are fairly simple and inspired to let us all feel what it is like to run
warriors like Jorja does. Her teams across Alastari may sometimes be taken for
granted so this contest will allow us to appreciate her teams a little better as they
populate the arenas we fight in.

The Rules--

There are no challenges, avoids, bloodfeuds, or tourneys allowed and only one single
use of the Dark Arena is allowed after the contest begins. Win or lose the Dark
Arena is allowed but once, so if you want your warrior dead be sure and throw the
fight!

The contest will last for 12 turns. May I point out that if you use your Dark Arena
fight you will get either 2 points, for winning, or -2, for losing, and ALL fights
count in the scoring. It matters not if you fight a non-contest warrior or a stand-
in; they still count as much as fighting a contest warrior. This will be a test of
basic strategy with a touch of luck added in as well.

If anyone should break the no tourney rule they will lose 5 points for each warrior
entered and those warriors, and any subsequent warriors who replace them in death,
cannot score points! The one exception are the dead tourneys. Should you wish you
may enter your warriors in dead tourneys, since they are not a member of your team,
or even the living, at the time. The warrior may even return to the contest if a
natural opening can be found for it, or you choose to use your Dark Arena fight to
make that opening (if you still have that option left). Break the no DA, challenge,
or avoid rules and you will be DQed as soon as the transgression is discovered. To
keep the contest playing field as level as possible, we will have no messing with
these rules. Of course you may DA the one time, just as a clarification, but the
second time gets you DQed. This also counts if it is found you bring a second team
in for the purpose of making challenges; you will be DQed.

Scoring is as follows:

1 point for winning
1 point for killing (giving 2 in total, 1 for the win and 1 for the kill)
1 point for at least one of your warriors writing a personal (regardless of number of
personals beyond one you still only get one point). Make sure it is written from
one of your team's warriors and not simply the manager entity or you will not get
the point.
-1 point for losing
-1 point for being killed (giving -2 in total, -1 for losing and -1 for being killed)
-5 points and the loss of that warrior's slot for scoring the remainder of the
contest for entering a warrior into a REGULAR tourney (again DEAD tourney is open)

The Prizes:
1st place -- +1 bonus to one warrior on the team, 1 resurrection potion, and 1
favorite knowledge
2nd place -- +1 bonus for one warrior, 1 favorites knowledge
3rd place -- +1 bonus for one warrior

Iron Manager Award -- Run 54 of the possible 60 fights and get a +1 bonus potion

The bonus potions and favorites knowledge must be used on warriors with 5 FE or more
and MUST be used within 2 turns of the end of the contest. The resurrection potion
must be used within 6 months of the end of the contest but may be used on any warrior
regardless of FE. ALL prizes must be used on the contest team, they are NOT
transferable to another team!

Announcing the 1st Veterans Ballot for the Shadowspire Hall of Fame.
Here are the voting rules.

First Ballot: Anyone that has played a turn in Shadowspire during turns 1-200 is
eligible to vote.
One ballot per player. Having multiple teams does not mean more than one ballot.
Give Team name and Manager/Real Name when voting.
Vote for a max of 10 warriors on the ballot.
You CANNOT vote for your own warriors during the first vote.
The top 10 warriors receiving votes will go to the Finals Ballot. (Any ties for
tenth will be also be included in finals.)
NOTE: All warriors that DO NOT receive at least one vote will not be eligible for
future HOF ballots.

The Finals Ballot:
It will be a YES or NO vote by all players that have graduated a warrior from
Shadowpsire in the first 200 turns.
For a warrior to be inducted into Hall of Fame they must receive at least 60% yes
vote.
