DUELMASTER'S COLUMN
Notes from the arena champ.
Hello there, Lapur! My, but the arena looks much nicer from up here!
It looks like I'll be doing all the talking for the team this turn, since the rest of
the "Kings" are still sleeping off the after-effects of the getting-our-charter
party, which was combined with a surprise crowning-our-first-Duelmistress party.
(The good news is that this will provide you with a brief respite from any more of
Thrak's "poetry.")
Yes, I said "DuelMISTRESS," and that's not the only change you'll be seeing around
here if I have my way (and I intend to). For one thing, the appallingly sexist name
"Crimson Kings" has to go, particularly since 40% of the team is female. The boys
will whine about that, of course--but if they want to change it back, let one of
*them* come claim the throne.
Speaking of the throne, I'm not going to make any promises about how long I'll stay
here beyond "as long as I can." There are a lot of hungry and talented warriors who
want my seat, and one of them will surely take it sooner or later...but I'm not going
to make it easy for anyone. This turn, I'm trying to give Sacrificial Knife a worthy
send-off fight on his way to the Isle. If I'm still Duelmistress afterwards, I'll be
back to talk about some more of the modern thinking I intend to bring to Lapur.
Sharp swords,
The Fire Witch
SPY REPORT
Hail and well met warriors of LAPUR! Know me for who I am, Zontani Sharp Eyes,
Spymaster extraordinaire of all Alastari. Former top team CRIMSON KINGS was unseated
this week as CROC FILES moved up from 3rd ranking to take the top spot with a 4-1-0
record for the round. Warriors--remember that glory waits always around the corner!
Witness how this week SHREW CAN IT BE NOW went 3-2-1 to move up 3 in the rankings.
Did only my eyes note the 3-1-0 record which DEATH THREAT managed to post this round?
I don't doubt that such a record will draw challengers! ACCO caught the eye of many
in the gladiatorial commission as he skillfully bested FLINT EYE and was awarded 22
points in recognition. In one of the week's more notable duels, ACCO put down FLINT
EYE, causing him to lose 17 points of recognition in the process. This time victory
fell to the grasp of the usurper. All hail SCRAPPA, Duelmaster of LAPUR! Heed this!
A seer has warned that if exactly 6 die in duels this week, the whole city shall
perish! Just remember...5 or 7!
I have been in deep conclave with my spies who watched all that has recently
transpired. Indeed there is much I would report. LAPUR, city of gladiators! Mighty
among the names of thy guilds is EQUESTORS, a guild shunned and avoided by many in
the weekly duels. Apparently the stalwarts of CROC FILES are catching the bulk of
jests down at the challenging board for their large share of the avoids. Mighty
fighters cannot but expect competition from those below. SUGARPLUM take warning!
You have more than a few enemies in LAPUR. At the gambling halls I have started to
bet money on THE MINCER. He has got the courage it takes. Witness his challenge
this turn against RAGING FIRE! In the end THE MINCER was bested by RAGING FIRE, a
"sharp" reminder that higher recognition is an indication of greater skill. Still,
it was a worthy bout! I can not but mention with disdain the name of SOUTHEASTERN
SHREW who this week posted a challenge to a warrior a full 10 points below in the
rankings. I thought SOUTHEASTERN SHREW showed great skill and promise when he put to
death SUGARPLUM. All right, so I slept through it! Big deal!
Vendettas. Bloodied blades and broken spears. Indeed the city has seen more
than its fair share of red in recent times. The warrior's path is harsh. For
mediocrity there is but one reward--death. This past week SUGARPLUM, at 9-11-0,
departed LAPUR forever. Fate is a fickle mistress. She showers the miserable with
fortune but sets enemies against the victorious. Remember this!
The girls are as pretty in LAPUR as ever I remembered them....and the fighters
as ugly! Don't let your reputation slip! Sadly warriors, now longer can I keep thy
company nor savor the ale of thy fine city. Depart I must and soon! Till we meet
again, remember: a turtle walks slow, hides head in a shell, and harms no one; a
lion runs to slay its prey.-- Zontani Sharp Eyes

Frank the Tank -- I thought tanks were supposed to be tough and durable! Of course,
I didn't think they were very smart, so I guess you're the *other* kind of tank. --

Uh oh...does this mean I now have to face the Equestors for eating Galba?! I didn't
mean to!! I swear!! He stuck his head into my mouth and the temptation was too
great!! Really!! -- Bindi
Sugarplum -- Shall we try that again? I'll be nice, I promise!! -- Cookie
Black Tiger -- Mmmm...delicious...shall we go again? -- Lucy
Penniless Lord -- You're too skinny to eat. Not worth the effort. Don't let me
catch you swimming near my bank of the river again! -- Scrappa
Cookie -- All I can say is, if you're determined to bite me, I hope I rot your teeth!
-- Sugarplum
Southeastern Shrew -- You're not really big enough to bring down a... Tall Tree
P.S. Good try, though.
Lucy -- You're a croc? You don't look like one. -- Black Tiger
P.S. No scales.
Macrinus -- Ow! You chipped me! -- Flint Eye

P.S. Crushing, eh? I just hope nobody tries to make juice out of ME, then.

P.S. Yep. There are other ways, but none to efficient and all probably
painful.

Greeting from Jhans, DM 36 -- In 2 turns the kLk will host our first annual "St.
Valentines Day Massacre" in Jhans, arena 36. (Kill Contest) The contest will begin
on turn 450. It will run for 10 turns. On turn 461 the winners will be announced.
There will be 3 separate categories, the team with the most kills, the alliance with
the most kills, and the warrior with the most kills. For the manager of the team
with the most kills a PRIZE of 10 ROLL-UPS will be rewarded (or $50 deposited into
his account). No need to declare yourself in the personals. If you are in DM 36,
you will be part of the contest whether you like it or not. We encourage as much
trash talk as you'd like. All teams, managers, and alliances invited. Please
contact Polarius (mgr. of Blitzkrieg) in DM 36 with questions. Or you can email me
at jamieptmo@hotmail.com. Good luck and see you in the sands. -- Polarius

MONGO'S MARDI GRAS MADNESS DUELMASTERS AUCTION
Mongo, aka Matt McIntosh and ex-Warden of the Dark Circle, is auctioning off his
entire collection of Duelmasters warriors and stables. Don't miss out on this chance
to own some fantastic warriors! There are ADM warriors available in every class from
Primus to Freshmen, as well as over a dozen Basic stables.
Does a Slasher with +4 attack, +4 decisiveness, +3 initiative and +2 riposte
sound good? How about a Lunger who received the benefit of a TC prize, has TVed
three times after graduating--and still hasn't maxed out his skills!? How about a
Striker in the Freshmen class who has decisiveness for a favorite learn and the MAUL
for a favorite weapon!?
Or perhaps you prefer playing in Basic. Then how does a stable with four Adept
class warriors who have a combined record of 41-19-9 sound? Or maybe a stable with
three 21-Will warriors? Or perhaps a stable with four Initiates and a Rookie who
have a combined record of 23-6-1?
The quality of the lots is excellent. All you need to view and bid on the lots
is go to:
http://members.aol.com/jvmerlino/mardigras.html
If you want to be on the mailing list to receive regular updates on the auction,
just send an e-mail to JVMerlino@aol.com. Merlin, aka John Merlino and also an ex-
Warden of the Dark Circle, will be running this auction for me. I just moved to New
Orleans and am likely currently stumbling around the French Quarter...because it's
Mardi Gras! So I have named my auction in honor of this occasion.
The auction will start on Saturday, March 13th, 2004, and will continue for
several weeks. But you should get your bids in early if you want your best chance at
owning any of these fantastic warriors and stables.
Many thanks to all for your interest and your bids,
Mongo
