Whatever decision the humans had reached, they didn't look happy about it.
Well, these were hard times. Many people were unhappy.
Bindi stood up, water cascading off her shoulders and back. Agro followed her
to the fire and the circle of logs around it where they could sit. The orc added
more wood so that the fire blazed up. The warmth felt good, to submerge in that lake
had been a joy as well as necessary, but the water was cold. She needed warmth to be
sure her brain was working its best, and she needed her best thoughts to convince
these humans to help them. She squatted near the fire, unhappily aware that the
warmth came with a price: it would dry out her skin. Oh, well.
She took a breath and began, jumping right in because she didn't know any other
way. "We have a deal to suggest," she said.
The human who looked Adantri but apparently wasn't raised an eyebrow in
question.
"An exchange of aid. We need to find our home--you are lost here, too, more or
less? So we could work together finding direction. But our people are menaced by
the elf Nishtar and his people. And you have someone to rescue. We will help you
with the rescue, if you will help us fight Nishtar."
The not-Adantri sighed and nodded. "That was what we came up with. We need
each other. And if our enemy is not Nishtar, it is one like him."
"But I still don't see what we can DO, not with either problem!" the orc said.
He sounded exasperated. It was well known that orcs lacked patience. But it was
still a good point. What COULD they do?
"The first thing is to get you crocs to your home." It was the light-haired
one, the one that looked angry with the world. "You'll be no use to anyone if you
die of dryness and cold."
"But we don't know where our home is," Agro pointed out. He wasn't sitting, he
was standing right behind her. Looming, as the humans might say.
"If Nishtar is your enemy, then your home is probably east of here along the big
river."
"And we've been riding west all day." There was a growl in the big croc's
voice.
"If your idea of fighting Nishtar is to ride right up to the wall of his city--"
"It is not a criticism!" Bindi cut in before Agro could snarl back at the man.
"Just...a request for information. WHY are we riding west?"
The light-haired human rubbed his head. "I don't really know this area," he
said, "but I've heard a little. There should be terrain suitable for you--a swampy
lowland--maybe two days to the west. Whether any of your people are living there I
don't know, but...." He shrugged.
A swampy lowland sounded good. "It will be a place to start," Bindi agreed.

                                 DUELMASTER'S COLUMN
                             Notes from the arena champ.

Well, Molly-me-girl, what can you do when I throw a veritable wall of blades at
you, eh?

                                     Stonetooth

                                      SPY REPORT

It is I, Novgorodny Vir, Spymaster of Spymasters. Look on my work, ye mighty,
and despair! CARDOW HUNTERS had cause to celebrate, after WALKS SOFTLY got 19 points
by beating PENNILESS LORD. LADYBUG certainly had a baffled expression on hers face,
after losing to MIGHTY MOUSER and losing 12 points in the process! A certain someone
saw MOLLY at The Burning Tree with the shakes, and now she fails to show up to defend
hers throne. What a pathetic slob! What can be a greater victory? QUICK STINGER
has taken hers place as the top, as LAPUR's new Duelmaster. Word has it one team in
LAPUR is using psychics to predict wins. They lead a charmed life!
My mother wished me to avoid conflict, and seek the gentle trade of Spyreporter.
But warriors aren't supposed to avoid fights! Everyone is famous for fifteen
minutes, and MURRY is it right now. Most challenged warrior. Isn't CROC FILES
proud!
Like the wind whispering among the pines, do hearest I many disquieting rumors.
Ask not for whom the sword slashes; it slashes for thee.
All good things must come to an end. As if buffeted by forces of nature beyond
my control, I must take my leave of this place. LAPUR, I leave you now. The
Duelmaster has agreed to foot my bill at The Burning Tree. 'Til next time--
Novgorodny Vir

The Olympics have arrived!

The Mordanti Olympics, having been gone for six years, have returned to the Mordanti
Alliance, sponsored by Amicitia Primoris. Teams have competed against each other for
recognition and notoriety four times in the past. It is far past time for the fifth
Mordanti Olympics to be held. The Mordanti Olympics shall be held in the Mordant
arena (DM-1) from May 1st (T544) through Oct 30 (T557). There will be a
'registration period' lasting until T543, where teams will be allowed to register by
activating in Mordant and declaring their participation in the personals. Rules will
be posted in the Mordant arena (DM-1) newsletter no later than T543, but shall be
available online before then. An announcement will be made as to where they will be
posted. Prizes will be awarded to the winners.
