TEAM SPOTLIGHT
Rediscovering Humanity
As the four people emerged from the crypt, Master Beru stood next to his new
charge as he eyed each of his other warriors for signs of strain. Three were long
used to seeing others die, but it had been a while since they had taken in a new
friend, only to lose them shortly afterward. And given that the warrior named
Drought had not been with their expedition, there was no "gift" to give.
Clearing his throat to gain their attention, he waved them over to where he
stood. Rosemary and Jason quickly obeyed, although Jason had to turn back and tap
Paul (a.k.a. Energizer Bunny) to get him headed in the right direction. Siren had
turned at the top of the steps leading into the underground enclosure and was staring
off into the night with tears easily distinguishable running down her cheeks.
After a minute, Master Beru pointed to Siren. Rosemary and Jason looked at each
other, before breaking into rock-paper-scissors. Jason won and Rosemary turned and
walked to Siren.
Rosemary said something to the young woman which brought no response. More
words from Rosemary brought a heated denial, followed by more tears. Rose looked
back with a flustered expression on her face, shrugging her shoulders in a question.
Master Beru and Jason both shook their heads no, their faces making it clear that
they had no ideas either.
Rosemary's eyes returned to the youngster wracked by her sobs. Tentatively
touching her arm, brought no response and as her hand set down firmly on the girl's
shoulder, she was wrapped into an embrace as Siren pushed her head onto Rosemary's
shoulder. Shock illuminated Rose's face before a look of understanding set in.
Wrapping her arms around the girl awkwardly, Rosemary rocked gently from side-to-side
as she petted Siren's hair.
Master Beru's jaw fell open as much at the girl's crying as at Rosemary's
response. Looking at Jason, he saw a mirror image of the expression on his own face.
Looking back at the two women, they allowed time to pass in silence.
Standing with the men, the warrior who was to be called Hunger Pang took in the
scene quietly. He had know Drought under another name at the camp. And he had known
Siren as well, even with her hair color dyed. She was a Siren alright, in more ways
than his master knew, not that he had experienced her call directly. But boys of any
race talk about their conquests, and Siren had come up more than once.
And so the silence dragged on, with only the sounds of anguish breaking the
night. Two shadows were the source of the tears while three shadows watched from a
short distance and one shadow near the three just stood watching the night. And by
the gate, a seventh shadow watched the events with a careful practice which recorded
every detail, while careful to remain in the shadows....
DUELMASTER'S COLUMN
Notes from the arena champ.
What an honor it is to be the Duelmaster, now all I have to do is hold it at all
costs! Let me tell you why. The girls and I all went to the tavern to celebrate my
victory and we were well on our way to wild and crazy when Venus walked in. She
rarely frequents any drinking establishment so we were quite astonished. She went
straight over to the barkeep and whispered something in his ear then turned around
and walked right back out of the tavern. Next thing we know the serving wench
brought us a round of the best whiskey we have ever had...actually the only whiskey
we've ever had. After we drank that down and ordered a few more rounds of the swill
we normally drink our money ran out. We were pretty well tossed but in no way ready
to leave. When the serving wench came over to see if we wanted more I told her our
situation...she asked if I wanted to just put it on Venus's tab. Well it seemed like
a great idea the time....
Solar Flare, Duelmaster (Hopefully for a long time)
SPY REPORT
Well, what are you looking at, LAPUR? Ain't you never seen Snide Clemens
before? Ah, shaddup and listen to my news. If this keeps up, KNIGHTMARE, you'll
have to shine swords instead of use them. A drop of 5 in the rankings? VENUSIANS
turned their 2-3-0 turn into a 5th place rank in the listings this turn. Any better
than this, and you get put on hit lists. Now let's all watch BLACK SAMURAI's heads
swell from their 3-0-0 this turn. Haa ha ha ha! Big shots, big talk, big deal. Of
course, we're all terribly impressed to see LADYBUG win a fight and gain 24 points,
terribly. Tsk, tsk, LADYBUG beat MARIUS and MARIUS lost 15 points. You're breakin'
my heart. MACHIGAI challenged LAPUR's Duelmaster for a shot at the throne. And it's
out with the old, in with the new, as MACHIGAI takes the Title and last week's bar
tab from the old Duelmaster. Heh, heh. The Warty Toad, humph! I've tasted better
ale at mortuaries. Where do they get this stuff? From LAPUR's trash dumps?
My mother always told me, 'If you don't have anything nice to say, start
talking.' I loved that woman. WILL DUEL 4 MEAD, I suppose you'll be glad to know you
were this turn's most avoided team. Care to know who is the most afraid of you? And
who led the way in this mass act of cowardice? Let's see, well, whatcha know? It
was ARMY OF DARKNESS. Ha ha ha ha! RED TIGER was challenged more times this turn
than the Duelmaster. Now was the DM insulted or feared? Heh, heh.
Ah, now we come to my favorite part, where we see all the guys who are dead and
gone, and get to see if their team cared. Whoa! I'll even buy GOO a drink tonight!
Anyone who can come back from the Dark Arena, I want to be on hers good side! Not
that I'll be buying the drinks, but I'll be glad to see ROSEMARY and ARMY OF DARKNESS
at The Warty Toad tonight celebrating their bloodfeud victory over CARINA. Honor is
like a chainmail shirt, it only shines through use. Certain nameless cowards will
doubtless rebuke me on this one.
There's got to be a better place in LAPUR to get a drink than The Warty Toad!
Any suggestions? Well, I've had enough of this drivel, and I'm sure you have too.
Off like a dirty shirt of padded leather. Paste this one in your scrapbooks, you'll
need the kindling come this winter-- Snide Clemens

PERSONAL ADS
Lapur -- Thank you all for the congrats to Sue Nami for her graduation into advanced.
For those of you interested in such things; She is a Slasher, with a Fav weapon of
Great Axe, 12-11-16-17-11-6-11, AdEx in Int and Dec, Master in Attack. She got
VH/VL...and she will be retired. -- Storm Front, Mgr. Force of Nature
Lapur -- Equestors have returned. We will be taking our rightful place in the
leadership of Lapur. For those of you who have never had the misfortune of facing us
in the arena let me explain some things. We are not set up to kill our opponents.
Unfortunately, every once in a while, about 15%, a warrior croaks. If we do the
dirty deed we do not run and hide. We are available for the bloodfeud. Conversely,
we would like the opportunity to avenge one of our fallen. If you want to upset us,
run and hide, but be warned, we WILL come looking. Happy gaming. -- Spartacus and
gang
Fluffy -- Trust me hon, the only thing "fluffy" in my bed is the pillow. -- Your Mama
P.S. Even donkeys have their standards I guess, since your date left you.
Akumu -- Lucky? Wow! I get the jump and drop your pathetic butt with one shot!! I
guess if I had any skill you'd be dead huh? -- Miss Conduct II
P.S. "I'm sure one of our samurai will get you eventually"--translation--"Just wait
until Kojiro can challenge down 30 points and has a 30 FE advantage".
Black Suicide -- We apologize if we have offended your team, please don't target us.
Oh wait, you're actually serious...BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH. Fight a full team, stop
sitting out warriors because the style vs. style match-up isn't always in your favor
when you challenge DOWN, grow a set (so we can cut them off), then come talk to us.
-- Roadkill and the Street Walkers
Zero Visibility -- Hey, my chest is there to look at, not hit. I DO NOT need a
breast reduction, thank you very much -- Miss Conduct II
Hoffa -- I got you desperate every minute and couldn't finish you off. -- Dirty
Sanchez
P.S. What are "night vision goggles"? Roadkill says I may try fighting with those
soon.
Lance -- I'd like to say you hit like a girl, but that would be an insult most of my
teammates. -- Goldie
Sticket -- Let's hope my challenge went through so I can repay the favor. 27 minutes
in plate armor, wonder how long I can go without any armor. -- Brickhouse (my first
skills...YEAH.)
Retard...I mean Rewrite -- Just so you know, we who fight in the arena do not
"participate" in the activities at the Street Walkers House of Pleasure, unless it's
of our own choosing, and trust me, I'd take the donkey over you. -- Miss Conduct II
Tealvin -- WAKE UP!!! I sing pretty enough, but geeze.... It wasn't even a lullaby,
for crying out loud! -- Siren
Rewrite -- It appears my narcolepsy is back. Gotta love pounding a guy into
submission and then passing out before he realizes he's beat. I think we shall dance
again, but not next fight. I have other matters to attend to. -- Rosemary
Khormashra -- Hmmm.... Did you happen to read my ad? You were supposed to take it
easy on Drought, not take it OUT on Drought. Do you know how much his training cost
me? Okay, so I guess it wasn't enough, but irregardless.... -- Master Beru
CARINA!!! *(&^% STAND STILL FOR TWENTY SECONDS SO I CAN GUT YOU!! -- Energizer
Bunny
E.B. -- You have other things to worry about for now. Boss doesn't want you going
after Carina, so that's that. And you won't work that trick where you slide in your
own paperwork this time. -- Rosemary
Carina -- My turn! -- Rosemary
Tomo-chan -- I'm confused.... I thought YOU LIKED getting cut on?! So why did you
not give me a chance. I think I could have given you a lot of fun! -- Jason
<grinning wickedly>
Roadkill -- Thanks for the welcome. Good to be back. Looking forward to crossing
swords with you and everyone else soon. Of course that might mean some blood.... --
Master Beru
Will Duel 4 Mead -- I guess we were your other concern this turn? two challenges,
eh?? -- Master Beru, Army of Darkness
Obituary to Red Tarmahk -- Sorry we missed that drink. I would have liked that. As
for my looks.... Well, you didn't see it, but I do dress to kill.... -- Rosemary
Cardow Hunters -- On the matter of talking in theatres: Please be aware that this is
a major problem throughout the realms and we will stop at nothing to end this. If
you honestly stay quiet in theatres then all is well, otherwise...BEWARE OUR WRATH.
-- Master Beru, Army of Darkness
Lucy -- *whew* I'm too pooped to go out and stroll the shops. Me, too pooped to
shop, that's pooped. -- Little Milly
Syrma -- I hear the ability to teach is indicative of one's skill levels,
irregardless of winning or losing. Or it might be I'm one sharp cookie. <wink> --
Big Molly
Keethos -- I just arrived and next thing you know I'm the old man of the team. Guess
I'll have to live up to the prerogatives and prerequisites of being senior fighter.
I've already switched living quarters, twice. And unless I want to own and run the
team, I'm not getting any better. -- S'tou
Rewrite -- Frontwise to back...get'm all right. (parting shot) -- Roz
S'Tou -- *drool*...heeee...U Goo nu frien...tasty... -- Goo
Jason -- You bleed well, and all so sweet too. But our time together ended all too
soon, and I still have a itch. Maybe you could bleed for me again real soon. I'm
getting goosebumps just thinking about it. *giggles* -- Tomo-chan
Red Tiger -- Oh you'll buy alright. I'm sure your spleen will fetch a fair enough
price to keep the Froth & Slosh Slurpies coming to even drown Rewrite's annoying
banter for a few days. -- Kyoko
Rosemary -- Luv, thats the fist time with a womans that she asleeps before mes. I
didn'ts mind the luv taps on me neck, but take it easys on me family gewls. Thats
mes moneys maker baby. -- Rewrite
Ankaa -- What's that saying, float like a butterfly, sting like a bee? I don't think
they meant it literally though hun. You're lucky though; I had a couple before the
match to lighten my mood. 'Cause next time I might not be so nice when I swat ya. --
Kyoko
Amie -- I hope you FREEZE YOUR SCALES OFF, you reptile! I hope you CHOKE on snow! --
Snowshoe, Certified Bad Loser today
Your Mama -- Yours, maybe. Not mine. MY mama would never be so mean. -- Cezzaro
Weipa -- I hear filleted croc is tasty, but...I dunno, you look stringy. -- Red Tiger
Sue Nami -- Do you realize how much trouble it is to get sand out of my wing-cases?
But I suppose for the skills I shouldn't complain. So...sorta thanks. -- Ladybug
Jon -- That was unnecessary. -- Ghost of Red Tarmahk
Sue Nami -- Congratulations! -- all the living Cardow Hunters
P.S. Oh, sorry, we already said that. Well, we say it again.
Mr. Dollar -- Seems like it. -- Ghost of Red Tarmahk
Miss Conduct -- (twirling his mustache) Oh? Well, allow me to help you with that
attitude! -- Cezzaro
Manager of Will Duel 4 Mead -- Okay, but he can read the note himself. -- Manager of
Cardow Hunters, a.k.a. Uncle Wolf
Solar Flare -- It takes me a while to refill my skill reservoirs. -- Ladybug
Solar Flare -- Congrats on your DuelMastership! -- Storm Front, Mgr. Force of Nature
Stable
Brickhouse -- Thanks for helping me get my last attribute learn...now I can go on to
a career of mediocrity by trying to learn something. -- Sticket
Connie -- If we do that again, I may actually improve to a .500 record, however, I
doubt you would come at me the same way and I would not get as lucky. Good luck in
your future bloodfeuds. -- Down Pour (the forever bloodfeuded one it seems)
Ladybug -- Tough draw for you being my last fight...but at least I left you with some
decent skills. Good luck in the future -- Sue Nami
Kojiro -- Just when I get on a roll of winning, you come along. -- Whirlwind
Miss Conduct -- I even hate myself after that fight. I'm sure with even fight
experience I would not stand a chance. You have a bright future ahead of you, good
luck. -- Zero
Roadkill and Streetwalkers/The Cardow Hunters -- Thank you for the kind words. Good
luck to all. -- Sue Nami
Mensa -- As always, I look forward to another meeting with you. I really have no
problem padding my record. -- Sticket
Big Molly -- That will teach you to...uh...hit me...uh...Hi I'm Syrma have we met? --
Syrma
Hogan -- I believe my new tactics need some work, ok a lot of work! -- Mensa
Kyoko -- I thought I had you wrapped up. That will teach me to put all my energy
into the beginning of a fight. -- Ankaa
Machigai -- Don't EVER hit me in the pelvis, at least not with your fighting sword.
-- Solar Flare
Energizer Bunny -- I am not sure you got any satisfaction from that fight. You are
more than welcome to try again. -- Carina
I would like to give a warm welcome to all the teams who have recently joined or
rejoined the arena. It is always nice to have more competition and personals! --
Venus, Mgr. Venusians

NEED A TURF WAR ALLIANCE?? Master Beru, Wretch, Reaper, and Xoan have come together
to form an Alliance for the TURF WAR in DM47 with no regards for experience in
competitions or even the game. If you want to enjoy the thrills of the competition,
we have space for up to three more managers. Contact Master Beru at
d_spinella@msn.com for more information or send a note to Master Beru at DM 29--Army
of Darkness. If you are interested, we need to move quickly, since the contest
starts in January and there are a few requirements to meet to participate. May your
blades find the chinks in your enemy's armor. -- Master Beru

ANNOUNCING THE NO-TOURNAMENT ARENA (81)
As an American I honor my cultural heritage by stealing any good idea. This idea was
originally proposed by Lord Xiang in November 2005. RSI will be opening the arena
(81) for teams willing to sign the following pledge:
* I pledge that I will not send warriors from this arena to a Tournament, nor will I
use a Tournament prize on a warrior from this arena.
* I pledge to run a full team when I run turns in this arena. If circumstances
preclude my running less than a full team I will notify the Player Committee.
* I agree to abide by the decisions of the Player Committee.
* I understand that any warrior that participates in a Tournament shall be sent to
the Dark Arena until they are dead.
* I understand that any warrior that receives a Tournament prize shall be send to
the Dark Arena until they are dead.
The following are the rules for joining this No-Tournament arena
1. No tournament play for warriors in this arena (Dead tournament or otherwise).
2. One team per manager.
3. Teams start with new rollup (or a zero fight equivalent team is transferred into
this arena.)
4. No tourney prizes allowed to modify warriors in the arena.
5. Twenty teams required, per RSI.
6. Waivers are required to allow self-regulation on tourney ban, granting RSI
authority to Dark Arena any warrior that participates in a Tournament (until the
warrior is dead).
7. Rotating council to enforce tourney ban and maintain arena integrity.
The main purpose of the Player Committee is to maintain fair play in the arena:
* Warriors that participate in Tournaments will be sent to the Dark Arena until they
are dead. This means that the Player Committee has the power to send another
player's warrior to the Dark Arena
* Managers that abuse the rules of the Arena may be banned/transferred from the
Arena.
The player with the most votes for Chairman will fill slot 1 [Chairperson] and that
term expires end of March 2007.
The player with the most votes overall will fill slot 5 and that term expires end of

I will track Awards in Arena 81, which will be posted on a web site and included
in the following turn's newsletter.
The Honor of Sunset Award:
The first team to reach 10 Team Kills. In the case that there is more than one
team that achieves 10 Team Kills on the same turn, I will pay the Award to the team
with the most kills. If two or more teams are tied for Team Kills, I will prolong
the contest until one team has the most Kills in the Arena (it does not have to be
one of the teams that first reached 10 Team Kills.)
The Race to Victory Award:
The first team to reach 75 Team Wins. In the case that there is more than one
team that reaches 75 Team wins on the same turn, I will pay the Award to the team
with the most wins. If two or more teams are tied for Team Wins, I will prolong the
contest until one team has the most wins in the Arena (it does not have to be one of
the teams that first reached 75 Team Wins.)
The Commitment to Change Award:
The first team to reach 125 Team Fights. In the case that there is more than
one team that reaches 125 Team Fights on the same turn, I will pay the Award to the
team with the most fights. If two or more teams are tied for Team Fights, I will
prolong the contest until one team has the most fights in the Arena (it does not have
to be one of the teams that first reached 125 Team Fights.) I hope I never give out
this award {figure it out on your own.}
The Team Advancement Award:
The first team to graduate 5 warriors to ADM. In the case that there is more
than 1 team that graduates 5 warriors on the same turn, I will pay the Award to the
first team to graduate 6 warriors. In the case that there is more than 1 team that
graduates 6 warriors on the same turn, I will pay the Award to the first team to
graduate 7 warriors, and so on.
The Iron Throne Award:
The first team to hold the Duelmaster for 10 turns STARTING ON TURN 11.
The Stylemaster Award.
The first team to hold the Stylemaster Award in 7 different styles, STARTING ON

missing a turn.
