Uncle Wolf stood in the back door of the longhouse and stared over the practice
yard. Some of the Cardow Hunters were working out, but nobody was putting much
effort into it. "They're a worthless bunch," he said. "I'm doing you no favors
handing over this team."
Jorja laughed and came to stand beside him. "What else is new?"
The old shaman shrugged. "Good warriors come and go, and where they come
from...who can guess? Nobody here is really bad, I suppose." He sighed. "Well, it
isn't my problem now. Good luck with it all."
"I'll do well enough," Jorja said. "What about you?"
"I was a shaman before I was an arena manager," Wolf said. "And I am called to
urgent work in the Spirit Lands." He smiled grimly. "And some of the gladiators I
have trained, both the living and the dead, will make themselves of use."

Notes from the arena champ.
Wow. It's true, everyone does look like ants from up here. I really don't know what
to say, it's all a little overwhelming. To capture the throne. The most coveted
position in of all Lapur. Not only the first time for me personally but for my
entire team, it's a big honor. But that's not what's overwhelming, it's the smell of
sulfur they had to use to disinfect the throne from the previous attendant. There
was no way I was going to sit on it before they did that. No telling what I could
catch. Anyhow back to the matter at hand. The capture the throne, yes, yes. Though
not exactly how I wanted to do it, but I guess beggars can't be choosers. I guess I
should start by thanking all the little people I stepped on, on my way to the top.
Force of Nature in particular. Since they make up about half of my overall record in
both wins & losses. I guess the question now is whether to let those knocking at my
door fight it out for the chance, or hand pick my challenger from a precious few.
Snowshoe, you've been the fan favorite since well before I even considering this
profession, possibly before I was even conceived. Though I've never been once to
back away from a challenge, the smart thing to do would be avoid you until you
graduated. But my track record shows, I've made my living by picking apart warriors
that I've been warned to stay away from. Still a 31 fight difference is a pretty big
gap to attempt to leap, and something I'm not eager to blindly charge into.
Gallienus, while your style is my favorite to stab with pointy objects. This turn is to be your last before you go off and represent Lapur in AD. While I can't speak for
others on my team. I hold the belief that one who has earned that right also has
earned the respect given to be allowed to choose how he or she decides to close the
curtain. If you choose to go out with one last fight for the throne so be it, and I
hope to meet you in the sands.
Mensa, I already used one to many get out of jail free cards where the odds were
heavily in my favor. Though I hear your style is a tad unusual that could lessen
those chances. Since challenges against stable mates is a no no, Kyoko isn't even a
consideration. Which leaves me with Escapade's Sparkle Farkle & S'Tou, and the ever
so loveable man-whore Dirty Sanchez from the Walkers. Either one of Escapades would
be more than an worthy adversary and that I'm sure we could make the highlight match
of the week. Sanchez would be a bloodbath on the simple fact I wouldn't stop
swinging for a second to make sure those grubby hands never touched me.
Regardless of who turns out to be my opponent, I will say this. You make walk away
the loser or you may walk away the winner. Either way though, you won't walk away
happy. In closing I would like to say this, to those who though I would meet my
demise in my first five fights, let alone make it all the way to the top. Kiss my
*censored*! Now the boss would like to say some Out Of Character?? Whatever that

Since this is my very first Duelmaster Title and very first column. I just like to
say a few things. First I just like to say thanks to everyone in the arena. All the
old schooler's in the form of the Cardow Hunters, Force of Nature, Equestors, Army of
Darkness, Street Walkers, Black Samurai, and Mid Earth to name a few. For their
guidance, wisdom, and encouragement. However misleading, inaccurate, and insincere
it was sometimes. :)
Escapade who I've always consider our friendly rivals since we both started out at
the same time in the arena. As I've said before I wish you guys the greatest success
in the arena as long as it's next to our own. :) And our newest recruits, who are
not only helping boost the population activity, but the quality of it as well.
As you can tell by my team number I made this team some time ago, well over 10 years
I think. I just never played them or even the game for that matter once. Why I
couldn't tell you. Wait I take that back I know why. It was because I was a broke
kid and couldn't afford to. :) For some reason I decided to look up the team after
all these years(I still had the initial roll up in a filing cabinet somewhere :) and
started playing. I fought my way up in here from starting day one. I've had my
successes and my set backs. But the one thing that has remained throughout was the
fun factor, which everyone in here contributed to. With everyone's ads, spotlights,
columns, just the general atmosphere is what has made Lapur great. We don't have
contests, or special stipulations, everyone here plays love & fun of the game plain
and simple. At least that's what I like to think. That quality is what makes it so
great, and has made it grow. And I'll continue to do my best to contribute to that.
With that said I'll raise my mug to wiping the sands with each and everyone of you,

SPY REPORT
Well, what are you looking at, LAPUR? Ain't you never seen Snide Clemens
before? Ah, shaddup and listen to my news. BLACK SAMURAI turned their 3-0-0 turn
into a 10th place rank in the listings this turn. Any better than this, and you get
put on hit lists. Gee, I'm impressed, a 4-1-0 is nice, but don't get cocky, GODS OF
WAR, the Fates teach humility, and the Fates are proud. Of course, we're all
terribly impressed to see BUZZSAW win a fight and gain 21 points, terribly. Tsk,
tsk, FIREFLY beat NEOPOLITAN and NEOPOLITAN lost 14 points. You're breakin' my
heart. DIRTY SANCHEZ challenged LAPUR's Duelmaster for a shot at the throne. And if
variety is the spice of life, LAPUR may be getting bland, as TESSA stays top dog in
the city. The Burning Tree, humph! I've tasted better ale at mortuaries. Where do
they get this stuff? From LAPUR's trash dumps?
Well, let's take a look at some more misdeeds of you miserable sword-boys.
What's the big D? ESCAPADE was the most avoided team? Bunch of lily livered...
grumble... mumble... curse... And who led the way in this mass act of cowardice?
Let's see, well, whatcha know? It was BLACK SAMURAI. Ha ha ha ha! Ooh, I'm
frightfully impressed, RED LILY was this turn's most challenged warrior. Watch that
ego swell, sports fans. I suspect either a 21 will or a 21 ego on this one, but
JASON has challenged up by 32 in an attempt against SNOWSHOE. And, oof! JASON saw
stars around his helmet, after losing the fight, and disappointing the crowds, I
might add. Now here's guts and stupidity all rolled into one, MORRIGAN challenged up
30 to take on KYOKO of WILL DUEL 4 MEAD. Well, ok, the upstart knave (where've I
heard that before?) won this match and gained 20 points to boot! Ha ha ha, KYOKO.
Death and Taxes. The less death I see, the more it taxes my patience. Let's
see if anyone's dead or dying. Gee, ARMY OF DARKNESS, ain't it past due for sending
SIREN Dark Arena? What took ol' '9-7-1' so long? Hope? Ha ha aha ha! And what a
stunning loss we have here, boys and girls, LANCE of MEN has added the final loss to
his 10-14-1. Tee hee! Honor is like a chainmail shirt, it only shines through use.
Certain nameless cowards will doubtless rebuke me on this one.
What does the LAPUR arena have in common with the inns? It's just as
comfortable to sleep in either place. Ha ha ha ha! Well, I've had enough of this
