Sorry for the delay, but considering all you know why. I still have a few left to decide; hopefully I'll get them in next turn since it is the last one where we can vote right? Best Duelmaster -- BELEG -- We had several notable runners in this category over the year. Why Beleg? Three straight turns as DM for starters. Something only a couple of others have done this year. But it's who he defeated for that throne that really puts him over. Connie, Solar Flare, Your Mama. Three hardcore vets who all have more than twice as many fights than him and a hell of lot more experience and he still batted them away with a sharp stick. :) Most Pathetic Duelmaster -- WHIRLWIND -- Why? Well have to pick someone. He was the only DM to capture the throne with a losing record. Granted it was only one fight difference from losing to breaking even, but it's a losing record. Favorite Warrior -- MENSA -- Hard to pick one here. I have a lot of personal favorites, not including my own guys. Mensa gets it just because no matter who I send up against her win or lose. They all learn like they had a 21 Wit, how can you not love that? :) Most Disliked Warrior -- TYE FOON -- He knows why, dammit. Most Feared Team -- I fear no one!! Seriously. I think I've only avoided once and it was just more to anger the person than out of fear. If I have to choose. STREET WALKERS. Don't fear them but I know every time we meet it will be a bloodbath. I'm amazed we haven't killed each other more often. Least Feared Team -- Everyone else. Bottom line you may win some over us, you may lose some from us. But we'll make you hope your warrior came out of it alive. :p Best or Funniest Team Name or Theme -- WILL DUEL 4 MEAD -- Now I didn't want to vote for myself on anything it's just arrogant. But no other TEAM name strikes me as funniest or what not. Yeah Street Walkers is nice, but ours is better. I mean it's not only a team name, but a lifestyle choice...well I guess that could apply to Street Walkers as well but at least our parents can have a smidgen of pride in our lifestyle choice. :) Best or Funniest Warrior Name -- SPARKLE FARKLE -- How can you not love it? Best Personals Writer -- ROADKILL -- Besides myself? Lol. No really hard choice here. Escapade was a very close second, since they make about as much sense I do sometimes. :) But, really everyone in the arena brings so much to the place it's hard to pick one. I love reading the comments from Escaped, Mid Earth, Force of Nature, everyone! Reason I picked Roadkill is simply he makes me chuckle now and again especially when it's in reference to us. Best Spotlight Writer -- UNCLE WOLF -- Hands down. You have to give honors to Uncle Wolf, Jorja, & the Cardow Hunters. I like to write spotlights and what not but I can hardly find the time to most of the time. You've really got to admire how they do it constantly especially considering everything and what not. :) Style Awards: AB -- JURRASIC JORDAN -- Well I didn't want to name Tessa with her being my own. I was going to name Miss Conduct II, but after I thought about it I decided on Jordan. Any AB that can go 8-0, and not only survive but nearly kill an slasher with nearly 4 times the fight experience deserves a nod. That and by my count she should be dead in a couple of turns. :) BA -- ELDACAR -- Goldie & Morrigan deserve honor mentions. For me it this came down to personal experience. Fought all of them, and while I did hold a win or two over Eldacar, he had just as many over me if not more. He was just scary how he would rip into you with great accuracy to boot. PL -- We had a Parry Lunge?? PR -- We had a Parry Riposte?!?!?!? REALLY?!?!?! :) PS -- S'TOU -- No contest. We all know why. LU -- KOJRO & SPARKLE FARKLE -- This was a little bit hard, since no lunger really stood out to me. I couldn't really choose between these two. Kojro, I only know from the newsletters. He was gone shortly after I started to play, and while he did DM 3 times in a row the pickings weren't as tough for challengers then as they are now. Farkle while never DM had some great success, he fought tooth & claw against some hard competition and left with a great record. So it's a tie for my vote here. SL -- DIRTY SANCHEZ -- Fought some good slashers over the year. I give the nod to Sanchez only because he managed to not only beat a really good scum , but did lasted a whole 7 minutes to do it. Anyone who's ran a successful one would love a slasher that could go 7 minutes or themselves for that matter. But that's another story. :) ST -- BELEG -- Now while he clearly won out best DM, best striker was way closer. We had a lot of good strikers. Agasaya was very note worthy, with one being the youngest DM we had this year. He beat Tessa out, 11-2 to 12-3 dam it. Both had very excellent records and were not to be taken lightly. But again what gave Beleg the edge was who he fought and beat. Very impressive. TP -- BRICKHOUSE -- The scum other scums fear. Nuff said. That's it for now. I'll the last few out next turn. That is if I don't blank out and forget. + ]H[ + ---:--- + ]H[ Edge of Night #8 ]H[ + ---:--- + ]H[ + In another place: Cloudrider watched in fascinated dread as they approached the great "waterfall." Young Joan was still ahead of him; he waited to see what she and her assisting ghost would do about it, because, if he understood Nightwind correctly, they would have to get past this in order to do whatever came next. The Lord Protector leaped upward as though reaching for a tree limb or the like, There were no trees here. But her hands appeared to close on something, and she clambered upward as though climbing an invisible ladder. It seemed impossible. It was impossible. He couldn't do it. "You can do it," Nightwind said in his mind. "Look as I do." That was easier said than done, but Cloudrider tried. Should he concentrate, or completely unfocus his mind. Did he need to-- "You think too much," Nightwind said. "Have you seen the bridge in Chagar Gorge?" "Between Morya and Rocanis? Sure, but-- Oh." The gladiator squinted, remembering. The bridge at Chagar was a strange combination of crossing and switchback, taking people up at an angle from one side of the gorge to the other. Then a new segment taking them back to the first side, but higher still. He forgot how many times the bridge cut back and forth across the canyon in the process of taking the trail up the waterfall, four? Five? He preferred to ride around the canyon and the whole knot of hills if he could. But if he squinted just so... there was a sort of spidery switchback up the face of THIS cascade, too. It looked to be made of glass, faintly glowing bluish. "This doesn't look like what Joan was, um, climbing." "No, she found a different metaphor. This one is for you. It's quite safe. Well, safer than not going forward, anyway. You need to move quickly so we don't get separated," Nightwind added. "Well, go then! You're in control--" "Not until you relax again." "Oh." Cloudrider sighed, blinked, and tried to relax in the face of an obvious cause for fear: being high in the air with no apparent means of support. He bit his tongue to keep from panic when his body began to run along the first course of the glass bridge. After a while, it seemed like there'd never been anything but running along the glass... staircase now, with a tundhering void on his left hand and a ghostly silent cascade on the right. He couldn't see top or bottom to the cascade, nor anything in the depths of the void, nor anything at all in his personal universe beyond those two and the endless stairway of glass. Sound. A shriek, plainly audible even through the thundering silences around him. "You will need your sword for this," Nightwind said. "What?" Cloudrider was gasping and sweating with the effort of climbing these stairs. He wasn't sure he could hold a sword firmly, much less use it as it should be used. And on what? "There." Nightwind turned his attention toward the void and upward. Something moved. Shadowy lights. Small clouds that changed shape as they circled closer. "They are natural denizens of this... place. Scavengers, of a sort. You might think of them as... like vultures. If you do not drive them off, we will both regret it. Briefly. A silver sword would be best for this, but there was no time to have one made, and iron will do well enough." Cloudrider watched the shadowy lights coming closer. Where did you strike them to disable or "kill"? He slowed down. Fighting while running up a flight of stairs- - "Don't stop!" Nightwind said. "Movement confuses them, but a stationary target is easy!" A cloudy shape swooped down on him, and he swung the sword instinctively, sheering through mist, staggering at the lack of resistance and the nails-on-a- blackboard shriek. + ]H[ + ---:--- + ]H[ Edge of Night #9 ]H[ + ---:--- + ]H[ + Between Lapur and Dullens: Annie went completely still. She had heard about the multiple incarnations of Bindi, it was almost a legend among the Croc teams. But she'd never thought of it in those terms before. A soul? She didn't know what a soul was, but if Bindi had one, then... she herself must have a soul, too. How strange. "I don't know about this 'soul' business," Agro said, his voice rough. "But if Annie's at risk, then we get her somewhere warm and safe and she STAYS there. Your ghost had no business drawing her into such a mess." "No doubt the Ghost Lily had what seemed to her like good reasons." That was the one called Math again. "As to a warm safe place...." A gesture half-seen through the fire. "Do you know where we can find one out here?" "There's a cabin about two miles from here." That was the one behind her, Redfox. "I could find it, come morning. There should be firewood, too. It was a stage stop on the old Dullens to Jhans route, before they changed the road, and it's always been kept supplied, even after it went out of service." "Good--" Agro began. "No." Math. "What if this business needs a Croc involved for some reason?" "What reason?" Agro, skeptical. "I don't know. But it isn't impossible." "Hardly persuasive, Math." "I don't KNOW. I've picked up a little about this kind of thing, but I'm not a shaman." Silence for the length of several breaths. "Okay, if a Croc is that important, *I* will go along with you," Agro said. "I'm a Lord Protector, that might help... somehow. Gives me a little safety net, anyway. We'll park Annie somewhere safe--" That sounded to Annie like a great idea, but she wasn't going to admit it. "Why shouldn't I come along? I was the one chosen." "Graduate and come after us," Agro said. "This is bound to take longer than anyone expects." Redfox laughed behind her. "That's for sure! But seriously, miss, this is likely to be dangerous in ways that even being a gladiator isn't--" "Especially if it involves necromancy," Math finished. "I agree that we should arrange a safe refuge for your young teammate, possibly with someone to keep her company and guard her back. And then we should be on about our business." Annie blinked and accepted another bowl of hot stew. "Okay," Agro said, hunching into his cold-weather gear. "That's one thing taken care of." He glanced over his shoulder at the old stage building. It had been exactly what Redfox said it was: abandoned, in reasonably good repair, and supplied with firewood and even basic food staples. For now, the safest place Annie could be. "I suspect that was the easiest thing, too. What now?" "You mean, how do we 'go on about our business'?" Redfox swept the snow off his horse's saddle and mounted. "I have no idea. Math?" "We ride north and east until Uncle Wolf finds us," the older man said. "And don't bother making remarks, I don't like that plan any better than you do. But it's the only one we have." "The riding is the part I like least," Agro growled. "Well, after the 'being out in the winter snow' part." He climbed onto his horse. He had been riding this particular horse for two days now, but the beast had not noticeably relaxed in his presence. Why should it? To a Croc, a horse was prey, and any sane horse must realize that. "Let's get it over with." * }%|[-----+O+-----]|%{ * }%|[-----+O+-----]|%{ * }%|[-----+O+-----]|%{ * ---===FREE BLADES REGIONAL NEWS===--- Duelmasters ----------- DM 9 ZUKAL (turn 587): BLUETTE of BLUE MOON (Jorja, mgr.) Surf, sun... But what do those bums say? "Hit the road, Debby Tonte. LAPUR needs a spyreport." Oh, well. Uncool, DEATH MOB. I mean 0-0-0 is bad. Will they will be allowed to fight? I say use 'em for training practice! METAL MINCERS like really fought hard to move up to 9th from 13th. Way to go! MVP award for FOREDOOM? FORLORN's proud of him after beating LONGINUS and getting 27 points. Talk about yer big time losers! JURASSIC JORDON got smashed by STRIKE BREAKER, and lost 21 points! Don't you think the Duelmaster is being unfair? I think MURRY should let FIREFLY be Duelmaster for a while, without fighting about it. I hear the top team insists all their warriors get nine hours sleep. They want photogenic fighters for PR photos. Look, you guys stick to fighting, all right? WILL DUEL 4 MEAD was LAPUR's most avoided team. Is there some award for that? Is there some deep dark secret why METAL MINCERS' been avoiding WILL DUEL 4 MEAD so much? Or is it just that they're too scared? Like, is MENSA popular, or what? She was challenged the most in all of LAPUR! She's got a 18-37-1, is that good? Challenges, revenges, Bloodfeuds. All LAPUR ever talks about is fighting! Me, I'm more laid back. I'm always kinda bummed when a decent warrior gets killed. FIREFLY, of CARDOW HUNTERS had a 12-4-1 when she got bumped off by MURRY. What a bummer! LONGINUS got wasted by FOREDOOM! But with a 10-13-0, I guess EQUESTORS aren't too bummed. I see FIREFLY got killed by MURRY of CROC FILES. Now I want to see some serious Bloodfeud action out there! Hey you guys, don't you think your families would like to hear from you? Write! (Or have someone write for you.) All these are found to be true and along with the most important, when something is lost it can always be found. Many a person has walked this land in one form or another. Some truly believe that here is there and there is here but who really knows? Among the peoples of this great land many have felt lost in time and in place. Some have gone as far as to be lost of soul.... Although most are thought to have been born into this world in a mortal way, no one can be sure. Life is something they have in a way but a torturous joke to them in all others. They live in a sense as they are here and now and having mind and knowledge. They are flesh and blood of one sort of another. They cast a shadow as all things living do. Blood courses through their veins. These beings have become wraiths drifting here and there, knowing that they truly belong nowhere. Searching for that one thing that they seem to be missing or the one thing in them that puts them beyond others. These people have become masters of many things as time seems to have no hold. For not even time can find those that are truly lost. Many of these beings have drifted toward the gladiatorial games. In the blood and chaos of the arenas something holds them like no other. It's the loss of something they have never had or something they had so long ago it seems to have never been. LIFE. A few of the more shall we say "human" of these beings have settled into many arenas around the land. The loss of life and the crazed emotions of the arenas giving them glimpses of things they longed for but seemed incapable of attaining. A number of these lost ones saw in each other something that might be able to help the other. They spent many a day traveling to and fro, for what is time to one who it doesn't touch. The more time they spent together the more they seemed to change. No one noticed the change in the others but each recognized it in himself. Years passed and the changes stopped. Each had been changed in different ways but all felt more whole. A discussion ensued between them. They came to a realization that in each other they had found parts of themselves that had been missing. Then came the next thought. If they could find more of like minded lost ones they might eventually find what they always wanted, their true selves. The group settled down to think things through. They finally came up with an idea they all could accept. They would form an organization that through their arenas through out the land they would seek out other lost ones. If they were of like mind they would be invited to join the group and seek that special something they all desired. This was how it began and how it still is. The Order of Lost Souls was formed and the search began. The original members numbered six. They were Baphomet, Blackstorm, Hammer, JGW, Reaper and Wretch. These members of the Order spread their gladiator stables through out the realm seeking others like them. Through blood and death they lived through others. One day hoping to live for themselves. For as they all know what is lost must eventually be found.... 28 January 2008 CALLING ALL THUGS, BRUTES, OGRES, QUARTER HALF WITS, SHALLOW HALBERD ENTHUSIASTS AND MAUL RATS: Since the Bashing style has often been maligned in the forums, it is time to give the style a little tough love with the following concept: An ALL-BASHER arena. The rules are simple--enter the arena as a rookie basher. That's it. RSI said I need to get 20 managers on board and I'm about half way there. If you are interested in taking part, PM me in the forums or email me: chase at accesspr.com and put D2 in the subject header. Chase a.k.a.
