Remaining votes for the Lapurian Awards for Sporkis.
Favorite Manager or Team -- ESCAPADE -- Cause I get the feeling neither one of us
knows what the hell were talking about most of the time in ads. :)
Most Disliked Manager or Team -- ROADKILL & STREET WALKERS -- I don't dislike any
manager or team. Everyone brings a something to Lapur which is what makes it so
great. If I have to put though in a vote, I'll vote for Roadkill and the Street
Walkers. Only because someone is bribing me to do so. :)
Greatest Contributor to the Dead List -- CARDOW HUNTERS -- No one in the arena has
contributed more overall to the lists in any shape or form than them. You got to
feel for them, they practically lose someone every turn for a while now. Granted I'm
sure we didn't help the matter but what are you going to do eh?
WS -- MARIUS -- Marius left with a good record and was a hard waste to beat. I could
name other names but they all be from second hand knowledge, Marius was the best from
my personal experience.
Marcus Award -- REWRITE -- Just because I'm tired of trying to write comments for his
deranged @**...
Bonnie Award -- SPARKLE FARKLE -- Now I don't know if I was supposed to choose from
from my selected style masters for this. Or who I think would have been best warrior
in AD. Well we all know unless it's a AB or LU it's doom to either, A - clean up
it's own severed body parts after getting introduced to it's own hind quarters. B.
Or have no more than mediocre success no matter how good of whatever style it was
because it wasn't one of the two. Farkle luckly falls into one of those categories.
With that double 21's he should have no trouble keeping up the pace with everyone
else...that is as long as he doesn't use any of his favorites.
+ ]H[ + ---:--- + ]H[ Edge of Night #10 ]H[ + ---:--- + ]H[ +
The snow storm was an obstacle, but none of the three gladiators was prepared to
let it stop them. They had good horses, proper gear, and plenty of supplies, and
Math assured Agro that Redfox's sense of location and direction was "utterly
reliable."
Agro found that...not utterly convincing, but he supposed it was possible.
Mammals were strange. At least they had come up with a "thermal robe" for him that
was effective, and if worst came to worst, he could always force his mount to the
ground and curl up against its warmth to wait out the storm, if they got lost. He
could eat it, if he had to. As far as he was concerned, they were lost already. He
was unfamiliar with this area, which Redfox claimed was "between Dullens and Riztab."
In a snow storm, it all looked the same to him. He hunched deeper into the heated
robe.
They pushed on through the blowing snow for a time that seemed not to end, and a
distance that seemed not to exist. Agro wondered if they were riding in circles.
The Croc had heard that such things happened in this weather. His horse stopped
moving. Agro looked up. The horse in front of him had stopped, also. Why?
Another shape emerging from the murk.
This had happened before, but the shapes had always turned out to be rocks or
leafless trees or the like. But this shape became a horse and rider. Some other
idiot out in the weather when he could be inside where it was warm.
Ah, Uncle Wolf, who had been manager of the Cardow Hunters and was a shaman. It
was a surprise that they'd actually been able to meet him as intended. Agro hadn't
really believed they would. Perhaps now they would get some answers. Answers would
be good.
After a brief conversation that the Croc couldn't hear, they set off again,
Redfox leading the way again. A shorter ride, and then a looming shadow that turned
out to be a low cliff, undercut so that it was almost a cave, trees growing in front
of it. Shelter. They stopped and made camp. About time!
At least his human companions were experienced winter travelers, which Agro
definitely was not. He sat as close to the fire as he could get, gnawing on a chunk
of bloody meat from a deer Redfox had shot. Things could be a lot worse.
"Why are we out here, Wolf? Traveling through this snowstorm when we could be
comfortably at home," Math asked. "People DIE traveling through snowstorms like
this."
The old shaman snorted. "How should I know why you're here? Redfox I told to
come. You and your friend? I don't even know you!"
"Red Lily's ghost picked a Croc," Redfox said. "One she had known in life, a
young gladiator. We substituted Agro, who's a Lord Protector."
"Okay." Wolf transfered his gaze to Math.
The Murskan hesitated, then sighed. "I had a dream," he said. "Three nights in
a row."
"Ah. Details? Dreams can be important."
"A dead teammate crying for help. A great sense of dread. Not much in the way
of details. No...instructions."
The old shaman nodded. "It is often so. Communicating in dreams is difficult;
it takes practice. Well, this is what I know:
"Necromancers, probably working each on their own rather than as a conspiracy of
sorts, have weakened the curtain between the living and the dead so that they can
reach through freely and seize souls in transit for their works. There has always
been some of this, but of late it has grown enormously. There are huge gaps torn in
the curtain." He made a slight gesture with one hand. "We must mend those gaps--"
"They'll just make new ones," Math predicted.
"They will try, certainly," the old man agreed. "Therefore, the worst offenders
must be pursued and stopped." He hesitated, then added, "The Lords of the Spirit
Lands are greatly concerned. They have arranged...help for us."
"Drop the other Shew on us," Redfox suggested.
"We are invited to call upon the Wild Hunt for assistance in locating and...
chastizing the necromancers."
Agro had never heard of a "Wild Hunt." From the stunned silence with which
Redfox and Math greeted this statement, the Croc gathered that it was not necessarily
a good thing to have its assistance. Well, perhaps they wouldn't need it. "What's
our first step?" he asked.
"A good question," Wolf said. He sounded approving.
Agro was not sure he wanted the old human's approval, it could lead to all
manner of unpleasant tasks somewhere on down the river.
"Our first step is to go north. Near the city of Zuwayza, between there and
Malcorn, are places where certain other entities, the Hunters among them, can be met
on, ah, call it neutral ground. Reasonably safe ground."
"Do we *have* to work with the Wild Hunt?" Redfox asked. "Do we need them?"
"We may not have to Hunt with them," Wolf said, "but they will have information
we need. They will know where the worst necromancers can be found--they always know
things like that. It's one of the reasons for their existence. They are, among
other things, the outermost guardians of the Spirit Lands. We could accomplish
little in this matter without their knowledge and consent."

SPY REPORT
Greetings warriors! It is I, Zontani Sharp Eyes, here to bring report of the
clash and bustle of the weekly LAPUR games. Fortune did not smile upon BLACK TIDE
this time out who this turn suffered a fall into 15th position in the wake of a 0-0-0
round. Warriors--remember that glory waits always around the corner! Witness how
this week FORCE OF NATURE went 4-1-1 to move up 5 in the rankings. Did only my eyes
note the 4-1-0 record which ESCAPADE managed to post this round? I don't doubt that
such a record will draw challengers! QETESH caught the eye of many in the
gladiatorial commission as she skillfully bested LYSIAS and was awarded 28 points in
recognition. In one of the week's more notable duels, CRAGS put down HULIK, causing
him to lose 19 points of recognition in the process. This time out BRICKHOUSE made
hers bid for the throne as she challenged MURRY in an all out contest of skill for
possession of the title! The city has turned out in honor of BRICKHOUSE, for with
hers arena victory she may now lay claim to the highest position in the city!
Informants "close" to the city champion have told me that he never fights without
pantyhose on beneath his armor. Watch out!
I have been in deep conclave with my spies who watched all that has recently
transpired. Indeed there is much I would report. My inside sources tell me that the
team to beat in LAPUR these days is WILL DUEL 4 MEAD. At least, most blades in town
are looking to avoid them. If you didn't look down dark alleys you'd have been hard
pressed to find any of METAL MINCERS last week. Busy avoiding WILL DUEL 4 MEAD?
Mighty fighters cannot but expect competition from those below. FOREDOOM take
warning! You have more than a few enemies in LAPUR. A match that raised a few
eyebrows at the games this week, it seems that MOSSMAN posted a challenge against the
more highly recognized URD. The results, you ask? Well, the firebrand MOSSMAN won
victory over URD. Remember warriors, this is the discipline of steel.
Vendettas. Bloodied blades and broken spears. Indeed the city has seen more
than its fair share of red in recent times. I must report the passing of LYSIAS,
veteran of many duels. 9-8-0 final record His was not illustrious--but death plays
no favorites. LITERNIUS must hold silent, for this week he was humbled in the arena
by a successful Bloodfeud won by A.A. SHOCK of FORCE OF NATURE. Hail A.A. SHOCK for
thy victory! Some say a warrior is judged by the way he bears arms. One thing is
sure, better a dagger in hand then a sword on the belt!
If it were not for my skills as a spy I would have been mugged three times
already in LAPUR. Nice atmosphere you have here! Ahh, but I can hear the spires of
a far off city calling to me. I must away! Till next we meet remember - the pen is
mightier than the sword, but a maul is a different story!-- Zontani Sharp Eyes

Amie -- I really needed a new pair of alligator boots, so thanks for being there for
me. -- Chrome Crimper
Caiera -- I prefer ale, but the mead was really pretty good. Thanks. -- Copper
Compacter (an unusual golem)
Hmmmmm, Road Kill, it surely seems to us like The Street Walkers regularly walked all
over Oremaster's 'borgs. Maybe, just maybe, I have helped the old coot even the
odds. -- Ora
Storm Front -- Great job with Zero, especially with that style and those stats. Well
done. My only advice--lose the speed. It does not help that style. No way. -- Ora
Congratters ta Murray, champeen! Aye. -- Oremaster
Forte -- I guess quarterstaffs aren't my forte. Ha! We had a good fight going too,
daaag-nabbit. -- Turtle
Jon -- You're a credit to your style. I never got untracked, but better get it going
soon or start making tracks. Or so it has been intimated. -- Petunia
All -- Many thanks to those managers who made End of Year lists. It's a fun custom,
see you next year. -- Scion...the team, I know, I'm working on it
Lucy -- Not only do you beat me like a red-headed stepchild, but then you don't even
have the courtesy to teach me even one skill. Talk about rubbing salt in the
wound!!! -- Mad Dog Montana
Strike Breaker -- Now that's the way to knock me down in the standings, much
appreciated. Are you new? I don't recall my stable ever fighting you before. --
Jurassic Jordan
Aronwe -- Why don't you go hug a hobbit or something and stay the hell away from me!
That's twice you've devastated me and I'd really like to avoid #3. -- Brickhouse
Singing Water -- We should really stop meeting like this. -- Daisy Chains
Wow, Croc Files all over the newsletter...well done. -- Roadkill
Murray -- Now why did you have to go and do that? Firefly will be missed. --
Roadkill and the Street Walkers
LAPUR -- STOP KILLING CARDOW HUNTERS!!! HAVEN'T THEY LOST ENOUGH WARRIORS THIS PAST
YEAR??? -- Roadkill
P.S. I didn't think the request for donations to put a revolving door at the
entrance of their guildhouse was funny either.
Liternius -- I am a sad, sad warrior...I do not even deserve to show my face in
public. Let's see if I can get this right. I have 41 more fights than you, I break
your Longsword, and you pummel to submission with your bare hands...and you aren't
even versed in bare knuckle fighting! I'm sure glad this career is over. -- Zero
Tell me about it. -- Storm Front, Mgr. Force of Nature
Forsooth -- Here is some ointment...it is "forsooth"ing that elbow. -- Ice Crust
Dysnomia -- I think Ice Crust may give you some of that ointment for your hand if you
ask him nicely. -- Sonny
Miu -- Good night, Miu! How many of you are there on the sands when you fight? It
felt like there were four of you out there hitting me. -- A.A. Shock
Myrrh -- Well, I thought a change is strategy might help me out, but it did not. I
do not think I will allow Storm Front to ask me to challenge you again. -- Ava
Oremaster -- Thanks for the congrats, but I am really just living proof that if a
manager makes you go out and fight long enough you will eventually be asked to leave.
-- Zero
Roadkill and the Streetwalkers -- Thank you also for your congrats, but...(see
comments made to Oremaster). -- Zero
Jorja and the Cardow Hunters -- Thank you for your congrats. -- Zero
Urat -- I hope to be as good as you soon. -- Solar Eruption
Lysias -- Nice teaching, I hope to put those learns to good use. -- Callisto
Sonny Daze -- Next time I am bringing sunglasses! -- Dysnomia
Urd -- What can I say? Reap the benefits while ya can! -- Mensa
Ghost of Clearwater -- Oops, that wasn't supposed to happen. I don't suppose "sorry"
will cut it. I am awaiting your teammates. -- Atria
Longinus -- You just wait until Venus lets me sharpen my weapons again! -- Solar
Eruption
Brickhouse -- I was actually hoping to bloodfeud my stable mate Ankaa, or I would
have put in a few more swings. -- Mensa
Murry! We don't NEED more deaths. Back off. Go eat a manager or a standby. --
Ghost of Firefly
P.S. It'd serve you right, in a round-about way, if Agro got into a lot of trouble
because of this.
Glauco -- That's amazing. Good, mind you, but definitely amazing. The whole nine
yards of it. Sorry about the off-target shots. I was aiming right arm, but I have
this accuracy problem. I'm working on it. -- Red Bull
Daisy Chains -- Impossible. It SNOWED again, you know. Last night. All the trees
are white on the northwest side where the wind blew snow into the crevices and it
froze onto them. I really, really am not expecting to see any daisies outside a
hothouse (and who can afford to heat a house that thoroughly?) for a month or more.
-- Singing Water
P.S. I'm singing in the hot water heater at the present.
Formalize -- Oh, don't! I hate formality. The casual, that's the stuff for me. --
Horn Rock
An Embezzling Scribe? He's just an old silly, really. -- Dancing Cloud
Sonny Daze -- Listen, Boar Tusk was a bad tooth in need of a root canal. Nah, I
suppose he was mediocre. But we see so MANY mediocre gladiators on our team, what's
one more? He hadn't developed any personality, so we won't miss him. -- Jorja
Lazarian -- Have been to Terrablood's website, and it isn't something I can print out
and send to you. Looks like yet another version of bagman. I'm going through boxes
looking for the Enchiridion. -- Jorja
P.S. I have to go through them anyway, because things are FINALLY happening again on
the new house, and I may be moving in a couple of weeks.
Anyone -- Lazarian needs charts, I can't find 'em (yet). Anyone with charts, SEND
him some! -- Jorja
Jurassic Jordan -- You're better than you realize...if you can stay alive long enough
to prove it. -- Venomous Concubine
Zero -- Wow, what a weird finish! It wasn't to smart punching someone wearing
platemail. My knuckles will take forever to heal. Broken sword--broken knuckles--
a win. Weird. -- Liternius
Foredoom -- Bloodfeud is on hold--Longinus finally was getting it together--four
wins--one loss in last five fights--not counting this one--have to think about this.
-- Spartacus

CALLING ALL THUGS, BRUTES, OGRES, QUARTER HALF WITS, SHALLOW HALBERD ENTHUSIASTS AND
MAUL RATS: Since the Bashing style has often been maligned in the forums, it is time
to give the style a little tough love with the following concept: An ALL-BASHER
arena. The rules are simple--enter the arena as a rookie basher. That's it. RSI
said I need to get 20 managers on board and I'm about half way there. If you are
interested in taking part, PM me in the forums or email me: chase at accesspr.com
and put D2 in the subject header.

ATTENTION EVERYONE -- In March I am going to do manager lists for all arenas. This
is part of my ongoing and undoubtedly largely futile attempt to get my lists
organized. If you think I might not know who you are or if you think I might and
you'd rather I not share that information, let me know this month! You can e-mail
me at Sue at solberg dash mathews dot com (replacing the at, dash and dot with
appropriate characters. You can send a diplo to The Saint. You can put an ad in
the newsletter. Semaphore doesn't work so well, nor does telepathy. -- The Saint,
