Malcorn:

Agro watched the humans and kept silent, but he was thinking. First, he was
wondering what he was doing here, this was a matter for the humans, who had souls to
worry about. He had never heard that Crocs had souls. Okay, someone had said
earlier that they must, he couldn't remember if that had been the shaman Wolf or old
Math. But the possible souls of Crocs were not his business, they were the business
of his manager, T-Hawk. Who was not here. Did that mean that he himself, Agro,
being here, had to look out for the interests of all Crocs? That was not the way of
his kind. Humans were herd animals. Well, pack animals, anyway. Crocs were
solitary.
He looked around at the other members of the group. Wondering what they
expected of him. Glad he didn't have an indecently expressive face such as the warm-
bloods did; at least they wouldn't be able to read his uncertainty as easily as he
read their misgivings.
"You've said that the enemies we're fighting have drawn in 'other creatures' to
aid in sowing disorder," Redfox said. His comment came as a surprise; he was usually
quiet and simply let the others tell him what they wanted him to do. "Would it be
useful to trap one of these others and question it?"
The dark stranger, the one who had come out of the Silent Place, shook his head.
"Useful... perhaps. The lesser creatures are not likely to know much of use to us,
but they might know something. But not possible. To bait such a trap would be easy,
any warm-blooded human would serve. To close it, impossible, because any other warm-
blooded human waiting to do that would be as obvious as the bait. It is your living
warmth that they detect."
     Redfox looked at Agro.
The Croc nodded. "My blood is not warm, and I have the skills of a hunter," he
said. I could be the jaws of such a trap."
The dark stranger stared at Agro for several minutes, then nodded. "I can
barely detect your presence myself, from this close range and knowing you're there.
This effort might succeed."
Redfox nodded, too. "Okay. It was my idea, so I'll stand bait, if you'll be
the trap, Agro."
"Yes, I will do it." In fact, Agro found himself looking forward to it.
Hunting was something he knew and enjoyed, and a whole new prey creature would be
intriguing. Also, it was the first thing they'd come up with in this situation that
was more suited to him than any of the others. "Tonight?" he asked. "Right now?"
He pushed back his chair to rise.
"No, there isn't enough of the night left. Tomorrow night," Wolf said.
Math raised his eyebrows. "I thought we were leaving here in the morning."
"It won't matter where we are, within fifty miles. The lesser creatures are
already dispersed," the dark stranger said. "They'll find us."

Readers: Sorry to just produce a lick and a promise, but at least I am getting it
back into gear. More to come. -- the Scribe

                             Notes from the arena champ.

YES! I made it again! Awl right! I was really, really concerned when I saw
what the MUGS gave me, but some how I lucked out. Who awl'd thunk it?
Wish I knew what I needed to get outta here. Graduated, I mean! When we all
Metal Mincers returned to the arena 4 or 5 months ago, awl I knew was that I was
8-5-1, 91, 13FE. with a coupla masters and one expert. Now eight fights later it is
13-8-1, 127, 21FE, with two DM crowns. So I suppose I have awl I need except for 1
more win and 5 more PP's . Can I get it all next time? Holey gamoley, I hope so, but
it does not look good with all those skilled winners in the challenger champs!
Just look at 'em. 133 wins for 7 warriors! 13 kills for them, too! The only
non killer is my teammate Chrome Crimper and I KNOW he can beat me! This is not
good. I am already praying and making offerings to the gods.
My mantra -- One win, five PP's; one win, five PP's; one win, five PP's. Help
me out here as we awl chant it together...........
Soon we will see. Until then,
          Luck at you.

                                      SPY REPORT

Greetings, Warriors of LAPUR. Allow this humble servant Novgorodny Vir to give
you a respite from the fights in the form of this Spyreport. BOHICA after a sorry
0-1-0 might want to consider abandoning the sands and taking up singing the 'Can't
fight no more' blues! What's a move up by 8 you ask? (alright, maybe you didn't
ask) Cause for celebration, according to VENUSIANS. Good things come to those who
fight well, as METAL MINCERS can attest, moving up by 2. ESCAPADE had cause to
celebrate, after BONZO got 22 points by beating RED BULL. Win some, lose some.
Speaking of which, THE USEROUS MERCHANT was winsome, after beating LUNA and seeing
her lose 21 points. ALUMINUM AWL successfully staved off a grab for the roses by
HULIK of MID EARTH. Does LAPUR have no one talented enough to dethrone him? So
who's the team that's been walking into taverns last week and ordering milk? Sounds
like a PR stunt to me.
And how sociable are LAPUR's warriors? Come, let us see. To quell some nasty
rumors, the guys in METAL MINCERS are not carrying any incurable diseases. No need
to avoid 'em. As a woman of good breeding scorns the "warriors" of WILL DUEL 4 MEAD,
so did that sorry team shy from METAL MINCERS Everyone is famous for fifteen minutes,
and MAD DOG MONTANA is it right now. Most challenged warrior. Isn't STREET WALKERS
proud! MAD DOG found himself challenged by a warrior 25 below: LUCY. LUCY of CROC
FILES kept hers wits as she was bested by MAD DOG.
Like the wind whispering among the pines, do hearest I many disquieting rumors.
You've heard about FIREWALKER of CARDOW HUNTERS. Death plays no favorites, and
neither do I. What was a 8-9-0 doing on the fields in the first place? A moment of
silence for FIREWALKER, who died an untimely death at the hands of YURI. In the
spirit of revenge, we call upon CARDOW HUNTERS to act! Oh hard! that to strike a
flame, the match itself must needs be wasting!
All good things must come to an end. Keep those sands bloody and the buzzards
fat! Can anything compare to the pleasure of writing Spyreports for LAPUR? On that
giddy note I take my leave-- Novgorodny Vir

Hooeeeey! Awl done it again. Aye! -- Oremaster

A congrats to Philanthropists for their fine record. It must be that Missouri air?
-- Ora

Loved the spots! Keep up the good work. -- Ora

Fhrain -- I am completely lucky to win two. I was afraid of that matchup. I was.
Hallelujah! (Tanks for teaching me something this time.)-- Aluminum Awl
P.S. I enjoyed your play on words in your personal. (mettle/metal)

Spartacus -- I guess Juvenal would have a heck of a time with The Flower Girls in
Fratsfa then? -- Ora

Mad Dog -- Well you should be because you are soooooooo cute. (wink) -- Platinum
Peener

Daisy Chains -- Thanks for the opportunity. I don't get a chance to do something
like that very often--and to come out on top! -- Platinum Peener

Visionist -- Your FIRST Lapur waste grad? Amazing. -- Ora et al

Weipa -- I needed that! Thanks for the challenge. -- Chrome Crimper
P.S. Can I say I wiped you up?

Uh, Luna, I challenged YOU? What a dummy I am. A salute to your skill and victory.
-- Copper Compacter

Ye stupid scallywag, Copper! Aye, mate. -- Oremaster

Dax -- Just scouting. Nice win! -- Scruff

Galen -- Yeah, thanks for the skills. I'm trying to figure this style out myself so
I'll take all the cheap lessons I can down here! I'm sure we'll meet again further
up! -- Milk

Horn Rock -- You sandbagging devil! You're MUCH better than your record indicates.
Hope to never meet you again! -- Milk

Spangle -- Come and get it! If you ever get a win, that is. *grins* -- Cuddles

Missy -- You challenged me with intent to KILL? Hmmm, what should I do about that?
-- Milk

Mad Dog -- Hey, you learned how to roll over. Good boy! Okay, stop licking me now.
Stop it! Stop it! -- Cuddle Me Tender

Spartacus -- Yer buddy Juvenal's apparently never turned over the day to day running
of a guildhouse's personnel and housekeeping duties to a really big, thick, sensible,
female Waste. One who's tough as nails, not too bright (so she'll last) but has a
good heart ensuring my fighters don't do without...within reason. -- Scion, mgr.
Escapade

Liternius -- Not a bad deal of a mondo weapon. -- Bonzo

Dang it Debbie -- Dang and Double-Dang, Debbie. -- Spangle

Got Milk -- Not today, curdling you into cheese loaf was my task. -- Missy Capper

A.A. Shock -- Heeeyyyyy A.A., how's it doing? C'mon, cheer up, Champ...for a sec
there I thought I'd hootchied you into that great cootcher in the sky. -- Hootchy
Cootcher

Ragnar -- Land Slugs indeed. I'm an ex-destroyer man..."land-locked twenty years" I
say. "Long time no sea" you say. (WC) -- Scion

Aluminum Awl -- You are a cordial and accommodating Duelmaster...polite too.

Lapur -- 10-12-13-15-15-9-11; Master Ini/Def, Ad Ex Atk, Expert Rip; Short Spear, H
OH/AL; Learns Ini ---Amie

Amie -- Congrads on the invite...ABOUT FREAKING TIME DON'T CHA THINK?!?! Well if you
go to 103 look Rewrite up I'm sure he misses you. :) -- Sporkis

Nilith -- Pay? Pay?? You're the one who drooled all over my shield. Oh wait that
was me. Maho. -- Himeko

Firewalker -- Does the phrase 'A deer in a torch light.' mean anything to you? Best
to quit while you still HAVE a head. -- Lime

Thornwild -- Well hell and I thought for sure you would beg for mercy when I took
that step back for a breather. "Kneel before me and I consider sparring your
worthless life.", doesn't really work when urine is dripping out of your armor. It's
things like that make the audience groan in unison like they did when the arenamaster
stopped me from giving you a new orifice. As for little fantasy with Tina, sorry I'm
not into necrophilia. But hey what you do on your time is your business. I don't
judge, I just don't really care. -- Lime
P.S. Spankis, Dorkis, the boss doesn't care. He makes us kill you all the same. :)

Mad Dog -- It contains the blood and tears of my fallen enemies...That or sugar.
Lots and lots of sugar. Maybe a little cream of wheat. *Takes a swig* No, no, it's
blood. Scuze meah. *Goes off to pray to the vomit bucket god*-- Yuri

Red Hot Chili -- Midly warm is more like it. Here's a bit of advice. Cowering in a
corner trying to fend your opponent by parrying with your bare hands, isn't exactly
the brightest of ideas. That is unless you want us to start calling you Rewrote.
Just be happy that I wasn't swing something with a little more weight behind it. --
Yuri
P.S. Nanananaaa.. I made you eat your parents. :)

Copper Compacter -- Either the fighters guild messed up the challenges or you're not
even half the village idot I took you for. Which would put you right around Street
Walker intelligence so I've been told, but I got to give it to ya you got a pair on
ya. Wait do golems even have those? Whoa never mind, I don't need that picture
stuck in my head. I have enough problems as it is. Well thanks for the learn and
helm's off to you for the attempt, but a girl has got to do what she's got to do to
survive. -- Luna

Ghost of Crescens -- What happened? I thought were fine when you left the arena.
You didn't have insurance did you? Aww dam it. Now who am I going to use as a study
buddy. You will be missed. -- Aya
P.S. 'Uses this weapon in a marginally effective fashion' my @$$. I should file a
greivence.

Starry Nite -- Stranger Danger! Stranger Danger! Maho.. -- Himemko

Cheese, I hope someone shook the toner cartridge before printing out THIS turn! Talk
about faint. -- Jorja

Occy -- Thing is, I don't like lizards crawling around me, see? So I get agitated.
Nothing personal, except that you're a lizard. -- Horn Rock

Celadus -- Shew, this is a faint printing. But it looks like you won. Well, okay.
Last time, I felt fairly faint myself. Must've been the cold going around. First
one of the winter and all, it was, uh, doing it strong. -- Red Bull

Lime -- Huh, the top and bottom of the page are legible, but the middle is washed
out. Still, as it shows me with one more loss at the bottom than the top, I take it
you won. -- Firewalker
P.S. Fighting in a fog, which we've had a lot of lately, is not my idea of "most
fun." Oh, well.

Atria -- Hmm, I think I won, but I see at the bottom that you learned a skill, so I
didn't kill you. It was probably a good fight. Too bad I can't read the report. --
Cloudshadow

Cuddle Me Tender -- (vague look) I guess there was a fight. -- Mad Dog

Our congratulations to Amie. -- Jorja and the Cardow Hunters

8 October 2008
Hail Alastarians!
Allow me to introduce myself. I am Vanek, manager of the Warmasters in the No-
Tourney arena of Shadowspire. I come to you with a public service announcement.
Some of you may already be aware of Shadowspire and some of you may not realize what
exactly you're missing. This isn't your average arena. This is Shadowspire, a large
and very active arena where role-playing is encouraged; many managers are active both
the personal ads and the D2 forums online, and excitement reigns with many grudge
matches from turn to turn.
If you haven't checked arena 81 out, I urge you to do so. After returning to
the game almost 2 years ago, after a 15+ year hiatus, I was looking to try and
recapture the magic of the game I remembered from my youth. After finding my first
two arenas lacking, I almost quit the game again. That was until I found the newly
opening Shadowspire. It was here that I found the magic and excitement that I
remembered. I truly love this arena and am sure you will too if given a chance.
Rookie or experienced veteran, it matters not. Both have come together here to
successfully make an arena with plenty of competition to challenge the vets, yet with
the no tourney format, friendly enough for the novices to get their feet wet and
learn (or relearn) the game. When I say that even novices can find success here, I
speak from personal experience. I still consider myself a "newbie" to the game but
have found plenty of success with my first two Duelmaster titles and two ADM
graduates to date.
I encourage you all to check out the D2 forums at www.reality.com/duel2/ and
look over both the Shadowspire newsletter and DM-81 forum section at the bottom of
the page. The forum banter and personal ads help to clearly show that the "old
school" feel for the game is still alive and well here in Shadowspire.
Also, if you're a former Shadowspire manager who is currently away, I encourage
you to return and help continue to make this one of the most entertaining arenas in
the game today!
I hope to see many new faces in the near future and am excited to see the return
of some of the old faces whom have been away!
     Sincerely,
          Vanek

8 October 2008
After 17 long years they are finally cutting the Cowboy loose. Red & stinging, my
hand is now sufficiently slapped. The state of Texas' boot print is stamped across
my ***... Uncle Damnit! I am only 34 (think about it...) so plenty of time to
reinvent myself...prospects are great. After wading through the culture shock I hope
to be amongst you soon, dishing out paper "w"itch slaps and taking my share of them
from you. See you @ the Winter face '09? Only time will tell. Good luck. --
CFH/Rat Salad, 5 Below Zero and an assortment of other underachieving thugs.
P.S. Contact info coming soon for those who want it; email and all that other fun
sh...stuff. *grin* Sorry Ed.

                                 *TURF WAR VI RULES*
                            Starting Nov 2008 (10 turns)

Anyone may participate; known alliances, new alliances, or temporary alliances
created solely to compete in the Turf War! To participate, each alliance must:
        1. Announce the alliance and the Captain of the alliance in the North Fork
            (DM 47) newsletter.
        2. Announcements made on the D2 Forums will not be accepted.

Captains are responsible for:
        1. Verifying those who wish to participate under the banner of their
            alliance;
        2. Distribution of prizes should their alliance win the Turf War.
        3. Submit one (1) RSI Roll-Up Certificate to participate

Participating managers who are not Captains must:
        1. Submit one (1) RSI Roll-Up Certificate to participate
        2. Announce their intent to compete with manager name, team name, and
alliance they will represent in the North Fork (DM 47) newsletter.
Announcement made on the D2 Forums will not be accepted.
               a. No scores will be tabulated until a Gift Certificate is received.
                   No EXCEPTIONS.
               b. Before a manager can compete, he/she must declare themselves in
the North Fork (DM 47) newsletter as stated above AND be verified
by the alliance Captain they will represent.
               c. Only one (1) team per player may compete. No multiple teams or
aliases will be allowed. Violations will result in immediate
disqualification from the Turf War (so be sure to take any
multiple teams OFF of Team Maintenance).
               d. Scoring will NOT be retroactive for teams that do not properly
declare or fail to send a Gift Certificate by Turn 1. In other
words, if your Gift Certificate is not received until Turn 3 of
the Turf War, and you have fought on Turns 1 and 2, your scoring
