TEAM SPOTLIGHT
Well, looks like this will be my last turn in this wonderful arena. And since
I'll follow tradition and head to the dark arena for my final fight I thought I'd
give you the little details before I retire.
11-10-12-17-17-8-9 and I'm leaving with a Master in initiative, ADX in attack,
with EXs in defense and parry. I'm told my favorite weapon is the epee (which I
never tried due to my inadequate deftness) I favor a Mod/VH fighting rhythm and
focused on parry skills.
I must admit that not being able to find my favorite weapon was quite
frustrating, and I finally just gave up and kept using the old reliable longsword for
most of my career since I did alright with it. It came as no surprise that the parry
skills was my favorite, when you consider that of the 61 skills I learned in the
arena 15 of them were parry, while only learning 9 attack skills. I believe it's
safe to say that my manager was very pleased with my record considering that fact
alone.
I can't tell you ALL my dirty little secrets, but let's just say some of you
would be shocked to know what a few of these manly men wear under their armor....

DUELMASTER'S COLUMN
Notes from the arena champ.
Greeting my fellow Lapurians. I am honored to be addressing you. I am here
thanks to Mr. Spock'S superior logic. You see he won both of our previous
encounters, but one thing logic fails to comprehend. Pure dumb luck.
In our first first fight long ago he dominated, beating me from pillar to post.
But in our last fight, which was just a few turns back, he won due to an extreme
amount of luck. Another thing his logic didn't take into account was that I have
been spending endless hours training and studying my opponents' tendencies under
Kalimac, my guilds weaponmaster.
So remember this my friends, it may be better to be lucky than good, but luck is
fickle and can abandon you in a heartbeat. Dedication and training will never fail
you.
Duelmaster Rindel of the Mid Earth Guild
SPY REPORT
Greetings warriors! It is I, Zontani Sharp Eyes, here to bring report of the
clash and bustle of the weekly LAPUR games. Fortune did not smile upon TREKKERS this
time out who this turn suffered a fall into 11th position in the wake of a 0-0-0
round. Warriors--remember that glory waits always around the corner! Witness how
this week CARDOW HUNTERS went 2-3-0 to move up 4 in the rankings. Did only my eyes
note the 3-0-1 record which MALIGNANT DECEIT managed to post this round? I don't
doubt that such a record will draw challengers! SPICILLUS caught the eye of many in
the gladiatorial commission as he skillfully bested OSTARA and was awarded 18 points
in recognition. In one of the week's more notable duels, SPICILLUS put down OSTARA,
causing her to lose 12 points of recognition in the process. Who here was not
present for the title fight this week as SNOWDROP boldly challenged RINDEL in order
to strive for the Duelmasters honors? The city has turned out in honor of SNOWDROP,
for with hers arena victory she may now lay claim to the highest position in the
city! Informants "close" to the city champion have told me that he never fights
without pantyhose on beneath his armor. Watch out!
But come now, let us look deeper into the maze of contention and crossed blades
that is city LAPUR. LAPUR, city of gladiators! Mighty among the names of thy guilds
is STREET WALKERS, a guild shunned and avoided by many in the weekly duels. Methinks
more than a few here could name the guild it was that spent the better part of last
week avoiding STREET WALKERS. Indeed it was MID EARTH. Mighty fighters cannot but
expect competition from those below. LHISSON take warning! You have more than a few
enemies in LAPUR. A match that raised a few eyebrows at the games this week, it
seems that MAGDALA posted a challenge against the more highly recognized TRINKET.
The results, you ask? Well, the firebrand MAGDALA was bested by TRINKET. Remember
warriors, this is the discipline of steel.
What warrior does not hone his years, impatiently waiting for the moment of his
foe's mortality? BIMBO SLICE has sworn to take up religion upon living to tell of
hers recent bout with the Dark Arena horrors. A rare thing indeed! The warrior's
path is harsh. For mediocrity there is but one reward--death. This past week
SNOWSHADOW, at 3-9-0, departed LAPUR forever. Walk proud, warriors of STREET
WALKERS! By striking down STILETTO you have avenged the honor of your dead. Your
virtue is known to all in LAPUR. Dark alleys may hide both secrets and assassins.
In the arena there is only the brightness of steel. Keep vigil always!
The girls are as pretty in LAPUR as ever I remembered them....and the fighters
as ugly! Don't let your reputation slip! Ahh, but I can hear the spires of a far
off city calling to me. I must away! Till next we meet remember: a fool flies into
a rage quickly and often. The wise are angered by the same thing only once. Zontani
Sharp Eyes

Silver Saw
Trinket -- You dirty rotten Serpent, you can kiss my anth! -- Stainless Shaker (mad
and not takin' it no more)
Oremaster -- You loud lout, you just run them all next turn and see what you do, Old
Man! -- Ora (wondering when that lawyer was going to show up)
Bimbo Slice -- Gratters, ye bodacious wench! Aye. Lord Pertecter! Aye. --
Oremaster
Yes, Bimbo, well done. And current Top Team at 9-6-2 for The Street Walkers?! Wow!

Clubs N' Clones -- Great point gain! Very well done! -- Ora, Oremaster, and The

Tane -- Are we talkin' swords? Or we talkin' swords? 'Cause I can cross mine with

Trekkers -- NEXT Next Generation? -- Methodical Malice
Let me die, master. Okay, Loopty. Die, bitch!
Tane -- I have five on the dot. How would you size me up big boy? By the way, you
seem really good at standing up in one place without moving. Have you given thoughts
to leaving the Gladiator biz and moving to the country to be a post? -- Rapid
Adjustment
Stiletto -- Now why'd ya have to go and do that? Lucy was the best replacement I've
gotten here in Lapur in a long time. Oh well, just the life of a warrior I guess.
I'm sending Pinky for the blood feud, and if she wins consider the matter closed. --
Roadkill
P.S. Lucy 13-9-10-17-17-8-11 RIP (and her replacement is horrible)
Layundegras -- I swear I was aiming for your leg!!! To bad I hit you everywhere
else. I get the feeling that my next fight is going to prove to be very painful. --
Mary Wanna
Gaeglin -- On the bright side, at least you learned well. That's gotta count for
something, right? -- Bimbo Slice
Magdala -- Didn't you kick my butt just a little while ago?? -- Pinky (desperately
trying to figure out what she did differently)
Misty Rain -- That was one challenge I was not expecting. -- Whip me Houston
Rindel -- Congrats on the title! The question now is can you hold on to it? I'm
sure I'm not the only one that has noticed that someone installed a revolving door on
the way to the throne. -- Roadkill
Lapur -- My sources have informed me that soon we should see the return of Scruffy
Puff and Sporkis. Let's make sure we give them a warm Lapur welcome and kill every
decent warrior they have. ;) -- Roadkill
Owsly -- Good to see you back. -- Roadkill (pronounced Mentally Challenged)
Vindocomus -- Sorry, I couldn't resist myself. -- Rindel
Silver Saw -- Damned borgs again! -- Gaeglin
Encolpius -- Impressive turnaround. -- Lhisson
Snowshadow -- Hmmm. the gods must be having a good laugh on both our accounts. --
Jehlch
Stormrider -- Till our paths cross again. -- Menhoir
All -- Last chance to make your choices in the Lapurian Awards. All votes must be
sent to me or post in the arena newsletter by turn 636. -- Visionist
Bimbo Slice -- You %$#@!, you nearly killed me! -- Gaeglin
Viedras -- Hey! How the? But! Argghhhh. -- Menhoir
Congrats to Bimbo Slice and Vindocomus on your invites. -- All the Mid Earth Guild
Loopty -- I did not try to bury you in the sand, those announcers get so
melodramatic! I was just looking for some of your missing parts in the sand, is all.
-- Fire Crystal
Atticus -- Wow, found it in your attic, did you? Amazing the stuff you can run
across in an attic. -- Butterfly
P.S. Oh, heck, I did that? I didn't intend it. And frankly, as heavily as you were
armored, I don't see how it happened at all.
No doubt about it, begging does not pay. -- Stormrider
Jehlch -- Your name sounds like something I stepped on in the basement when it
flooded. Makes me a little queasy just remembering. -- Snowshadow
Demonspawn -- One less golem, maybe, but we don't need to encourage killers in the
arena. Too many deaths, managers quit. -- Snowshadow
Our congratulations to Bimbo Slice. -- Jorja and the Cardow Hunters
Street Walkers -- You are not the only one they have been challengeing. -- Spartacus
Lapur -- Well after these last three turns I will be fielding a new team--2 deaths in
the family and retirement.
Silver Saw -- Thanks for the learns, unfortunately they came a little late in my
career. -- Encolpius
Buttercup -- Vengeance is mine. sayeth Jove. -- Spartacus
Lapur -- As the reviled Vindocomus departs, a short bio. Actually finished with a
winning record 25-21. He was born 3-13-10-12-11-11-10. When he finally matured he
was 9-13-10-17-11-11-13. He could not carry a whole lot but he was capable of good
damage and was very quick on his feet. He was naturally adept with the war hammer
but he preferred the scimitar. He achieved advanced expert ratings in riposte,
attack and initiative; with a master rating in decisiveness. He attended two
tournaments with a 0-5 record and 6 learns. -- Spartacus

participate under the banner of their alliance. (Lack of participant indication of
joining and/or lack of lack of Captain confirmation will delay a team's participation
in the Turf War.)
2. Distribution of prizes should their alliance win the Turf War.
3. Submit two (2) RSI Roll-Up Certificates to participate. (Note: Captains
may, if they wish, submit certs for all potential members of their alliance.)
Participating managers who are not Captains must:
1. Submit two (2) RSI Roll-Up Certificates to participate (Unless already
submitted by Captain. Note: extras will not be returned, but will go into the winning
pool of prizes.)
2. Announce their intent to compete with manager name, team name, and
alliance they will represent in the North Fork (DM 47) newsletter. Announcement made
on the D2 Forums will not be accepted.
a. No scores will be tabulated until an RSI Gift Certificate is
received, and participant indication and captain confirmation are posted in the North
Fork newsletter. NO EXCEPTIONS.
b. Before a manager can compete, he/she must declare themselves in
the North Fork (DM 47) newsletter as stated above AND be verified in the newsletter
by the alliance Captain they will represent.
c. Only one (1) team per player may compete. No multiple teams or
aliases will be allowed. Violations will result in immediate disqualification
(including team point adjustments) from the Turf War (so be sure to take any multiple
teams OFF of Team Maintenance and be certain not to run any other team warriors).
d. Scoring will NOT be retroactive for teams/alliances that do not
properly declare or get captain confirmation or fail to send a Gift Certificate by
Turn 1. In other words, if your Gift Certificate is not received until Turn 3 of the
Turf War, and you have fought on Turns 1 and 2, your score will not begin until Turn
3. All conditions must be met before scoring will begin--declaration, verification,
and Gift Certificate received.
e. No declarations or verifications will be accepted after Turn 5 of
the Turf War.
f. For purposes of scoring, the moderators will score the Turf War
and settle any and all disputes as they arise. Their decisions will be final. (Note:
the intent is to have a very thorough set of rules so that few decisions, if any, are
required from the moderators.)
Scoring will be as follows for Fights:
Win Loss Kill Die
Up Challenge +2 -2 +5 -5
Down Challenge 0 -2 0 -5
Match Up +1 -1 +1 -5
Bloodfeud Challenge (Up or Down) +2 -5 +5 -10
Champion ** x2 x2 x2 x2
Dark Arena* +10 -5 xx xx
Tournament Death*** -5
Halfway (6 round total) best alliance win/loss percentage ****
Final (12 round total) alliance w/l% percentage ****
*After 2nd win in DA, warrior scores no additional points for wins,
** A Champion's double score applies to his score only -- not to the opponent.
*** No warrior may be substituted without the proper use of the DA or arena death
or death in a tournament. There must be a maximum of five only on a team at any point
and time. (The penalty for such substitution is -10 points.) Points awarded for
tournament participation are 5 for any entrant, 15 for a TV and 25 for a TC. Death in
a tournament negates any tournament points gained and results in a-5 score.
***** Halfway points scored are 25, 20, 15, 10, 5, 5, 5 (etc) for 1st, 2nd, 3rd
(etc). (to qualify for any of these points the alliance must have fought 75% of its
possible fights.) Final 12 Round points scored are 40, 30, 20, 15, 10, 5, 5, 5 (etc)
for the 1st, 2nd, 3rd (etc). (to qualify for any of these points the alliance must
have fought 75% of its possible fights.)
Special Scoring Considerations for the Turf War are as follows:
Spy Report mention (team name only) +2
1. No matter how many mentions or stylemasters, an individual team can score
only +2 in each category per round
Style Master +2
1. No matter how many mentions or stylemasters, an individual team can score
only +2 in each category per round
Duelmaster +2
Champions:
1. A Champion may be declared, but one is not mandatory.
2. Only one Champion allowed per manager at any given time.
3. Champions that graduate or are killed by another warrior in the arena, but
not the Dark Arena, may be replaced.
4. Champions must have fought at least one previous fight in the North Fork
(DM47 arena) to be able to be declared a champion.
Bloodfeuds:
1. Bloodfeuds will score points on all four (4) turns.
2. There is no limit to which warrior may bloodfeud or how often.
Tournament Considerations:
1. Tournament participation is ALLOWED and encouraged.
2. Tournament Victors won during the course of the contest will gain a one
(1) time bonus of 25 15 points. This bonus will apply EACH time a warrior(s) wins
such status.
3. Tournament Champions won during the course of the contest will gain a one
(1) time bonus of 50 25 points. This bonus will apply EACH time a warrior(s) win
such status.
4. Points awarded for tournament participation are 5 for any entrant, (15
total for a TV and 25 total for a TC.) However, death in a tournament will result in
a -5 score for that tournament. (If a warrior TV's and is subsequently killed in a
tournament the points scored are -5 for that tournament.)
5. Points for TVs and TCs and tournament deaths will be applied the Turn
after RSI posts tournament results in the North Fork (DM 47) newsletter (i.e., if the
results post on North Fork turn 275, points will be credited on North Fork turn 276
to the applicable teams).
Special Considerations:
1. Each alliance begins the Turf War with zero (0) points.
2. There will be NO alliance or team changes once the contest has begun. If
you begin the Turf War with Alliance A, you must end the Turf War with Alliance A.
If you begin the Turf War with Team A, you must end the Turf War with Team A.
3. There will be a maximum of five (5) teams allowed per alliance for the
Turf War VII.
4. The Dark Arena may be used on the first turn only, of every warrior,
without penalty.
Prizes:
The Turf War is normally a "winner take all" contest. However, for TWVII, a prize
will be awarded each of the twelve turns to the individual team/manager that fights
five fights and has the best w/l record that turn. (Tiebreakers are in order - kills,
recognition points earned.) All prizes and 100% of the Gift Certificates will be
awarded to the Captain of the winning alliance at the end of the competition. It is
the responsibility of the Captain to distribute Gift Certificates. Moderators will
submit a list of each manager on the winning alliance to RSI at the completion of the
contest for the non-Certificate prizes.
All entry fees (rollup certs) are awarded to the winning alliance, except for
the twelve reserved for the individual winning manager each week.)
The following prizes have been secured from RSI:
1. Renaming of the North Fork (DM 47) arena;
2. Renaming of all Dark Arena Monsters (two for each manager in the winning
alliance);
3. Known Favorites for one warrior on each team of the winning alliance
(warrior must be ranked Initiate or above, must be alive, and must have at least one
DM47 arena fight to receive this award).
4. +1 Skill bonus potion for each manager on the winning alliance. Bonus
potion must be applied to a living warrior from (DM 47)
5. +1 Skill bonus potion (one) for each and every individual manager who
fights in all 12 rounds AND 54 fights of the Turf War. Bonus potion must be applied
to a living warrior from (DM 47)
These RSI awards will be listed by the Moderator for claiming from RSI (Lee)
within 4 turns of the end of TW VI. The certs will be mailed to the winning alliance
by the Moderators within two weeks of the end of the TW.
Moderators:
The Moderators for this event will be Oz and Master Darque. They will arbitrate all
dealings during the course of the contest. Their decisions will be final. All
questions, comments, and scoring disputes may be directed to Land of Oz or Darque
Forces via diplo in DM 47. Managers with internet access may send a private message
to [The Consortium] or [Darque] on the Duel2 Forums. Lastly, you may also email
questions, comments, and scoring disputes to rebelnerfherder at yahoo dot com or
wfms101 at aol dot com.
Please note there have been rule changes from the last Turf War. Please read them
carefully!
