Where things stood when I ran out of steam and time several months ago:

The laws that bind the Spirit Land have been violated and the passage of the
souls of the dead into their proper realms is being interfered with. Many souls are
vanishing entirely, rendering them unavailable for resurrection or rebirth.
Ahringol, who is the god of the Dead and not of death, is alarmed, shamans are
alarmed, many priests and magicians are alarmed.
Suspicion fell naturally on the practitioners of necromantic magic. Interfering
with souls is, after all, what they do. That problem, however, is not new--there
have always been necromancers, and a few souls have always fallen to them over the
ages. Now, though, the scale is wholly new, and investigation finally placed the
center of the problem in Kurukar, in the court of the Black Kaliv. Attempts to
infiltrate that court and discover the identity of the perpetrator have so far
failed, with the infiltrators vanishing or falling wholly under the control of the
dark mage.
The situation was further complicated by an increase in the presence and
activities of Dark Creatures, intruders into the Waking World from uncharted
dimensions beyond the Spirit Land.

A plan was conceived. First, it was determined that the Dark Creatures were
coming through a Door that should have been sealed. While not actually in Kurukar,
the Door in question was believed to have connections with that place. If the Door
could be closed and sealed again, this would reduce the flood of Dark Creatures to
the former trickle and, possibly, reduce the power of the main Necromancer involved.
The Door could only be approached through the Spirit Land, and that journey
would be dangerous, more than dangerous. Three parties set out to reach the Door,
taking three different routes, in the hopes that some of them would arrive. The
gladiators Redfox of Dullens and Blackwind of Malcorn, the gladiators Young Joan of
Morya and Necromancer (called Necroma to distinguish her from the enemy) of Lin
Tirian. The gladiator Math op Owan of Murska, the manager-shaman Uncle Wolf, and the
Lord of Malcorn himself, who alone of them has the power to seal the Door once it is
closed, have successfully reached the Door.
     And there matters were left.
     Now we continue....

The gladiators all stared at each other with relief. Redfox had an impulse to
hug someone--Young Joan or Necroma for choice--but hesitated. Joan he knew slightly,
and she was not one to allow liberties. She grinned and hugged him quickly, then the
older gladiator, Math op Owain, and cast a speculative look at Uncle Wolf, who
scowled.
Blackwind had no such qualms and threw a friendly arm around Necroma. He looked
at Wolf and Lord Malcorn. "What happens now?"
Malcorn looked across the valley at the Door. It was huge, twenty or thirty
feet tall and nearly as wide, the two halves standing open on flame-shot darkness.
No living creatures were visible. "Now we shut the Door," he said, "and there will
be resistance--"
"Should you say that?" Necroma asked. "Expectations shape what we meet in the
Spirit Land, and you could be creating trouble just by expecting it."
"Some trouble exists here without a mortal's expectations," Uncle Wolf said.
"And we are no longer precisely in the Spirit Lands. Here in the Valley, the rules
change again."
She groaned. "I really hate that. I wish the rules would just... be what they
are, whatever they are, and not change when someone takes two steps in a different
direction! How can you plan anything if--"
"You develop a knack for it," the old shaman said, "or you get into a different
line of work."
Blackwind saw that the young woman was going to argue further and spoke quickly
to cut her off; they didn't need arguments here and now. "One thing I've been
wondering. I understand about the different routes to make sure at least some of us
got here. But you and Lord Malcorn are the only ones who know how to close this
Door--I'm guessing it isn't just a case of walking up and swinging it shut. If you
didn't make it, what would be the point in us arriving?"
"You would have figured something out," Uncle Wolf said. "Each of you was
chosen--by me or by circumstances--because you are a person who finishes any job he
begins. Or she begins," he added quickly, seeing Young Joan frown.
Lord Malcorn sighed and straightened, seeming even taller now than his seven-
and-a-half foot height. Darker than his black hair and swarthy skin had seemed when
Blackwind had seen him on the streets back in Malcorn. There, he had been
affectionately known to his subjects as "Blackie." Here... with some kind of power
rising in him, he could only be Lord Malcorn. He was beginning to look big enough
and strong enough to close that massive Door unaided.
     "They're coming," he said.

                                      SPY REPORT

I can't believe the violence in LAPUR! I still haven't told Mom I'm writing
Spyreports. She'd have a cow! Well, here we go... Cut this out and put it in your
scrapbooks, CLAN CROW! 'Cause they got 3-0-0 and moved up to 2nd! Was that a tear I
saw in DEATHWIND FORGE's eye, as he took over Duelmastership? And wasn't IRON
IMPACTER fit to be tied! Is the Duelmaster really being a real snob to his
teammates? Don't ask me!
AAARRGH!!! I HATE SPYREPORTING!!! Sorry. I just had to say it. The warriors
of MID EARTH must be getting lonely. They were the most avoided team. Do you guys
know something that I don't? Hhmph! What kind of warriors are METAL MINCERS? MID
EARTH, an easy team to beat if I ever saw one, can't get them to accept an
invitation! Like, is CONSTABLE ODO popular, or what? He was challenged the most in
all of LAPUR! He's got a 9-9-0, is that good? People were asking me did SARYN
REALLY challenge MENHOIR? (all right, maybe they didn't, but it sounded good!) It
wasn't a spectacular fight, or anything, but MENHOIR wants me to write about it since
he was bested by SARYN. Satisfied?
What does a fighter fight for? I mean, the crowds don't give a hoot if someone
gets killed. Not after four more fights. What a bummer! THERAEUS got wasted by
JEHLCH! But with a 6-5-0, I guess CLUBS 'N CLONES aren't too bummed. What if they
had a fight and nobody showed up? I'd be out of a job, that's what!!!
I really didn't, you know, study when I was a kid. Who would've guessed I'd be
a famous Spyreporter? I gotta leave. LAPUR is like such a dump, and you guys smell
too much! Remember you guys, ease up sometimes! Chill out! Later, Debby Tonte

Lucky Eireann -- You dirty rotten bimbo, you kicked my borg butt, and I guess you
should be champ. Kudos, but I still HATE you. -- Iron Impacter

Daerelon -- That was mean and I'm gonna get you. I will! -- Stainless Shaker

Gol durn it! Damme, Ora, this ole miner bea lettin' ye ta run 'em this'n week and ye
goes 0-2 and looses me Duelmaster. Bloody bumblin' wenches! -- Oremaster

Oremaster -- You old coot; this was YOUR week! -- Ora

Congratulations to Clan Crow and Lucky Eireann, the new Duelmaster of Lapur. -- Ora
P.S. Even though it didn't last long.

Owsly -- I may have made that mop and broom comment, but I didn't really mean it. I
am thinking more along the lines of either a bedpan or Viagra. -- Ora

Lhisson -- Fleas of a thousand yaks? Nice one! But only a thousand? I like fleas.
Their buzz puts me to sleep. It is nice being irony. -- Iron Impacter

Visionist -- Obviously, the answer was no. The old fogey missed the freebie five!
Plus, Beryllium Buffer will debut at The Mailer. -- Ora

Damme, Visionist! Ora were supposed ta have done it. Aye. -- Oremaster

Thunderbold -- Your choice of weapon was a ____. (fill in the blank). -- Verus

Mary Wanna -- Shouldn't your second name be spelled "juana"? Nice bloodfeud. --
Thtilius

Lapur -- Having engaged in over 1600 fights, I have learned to never send an
unarmored warrior into the arena. Four of our opponents were unarmored--2 wins, 2
losses--it did not take much in my 2 wins. One of my fighters who lost will probably
be heading to the Dark Arena. He had some problems at creation that I do not think I
will be able to overcome. Also, of the 53 kills I have accumulated, over 30 have
been against unarmored warriors. Can someone please explain why you would want to
jeapordize one of your warriors by NOT giving them some protection? -- Spartacus

     Machismo?

IRON IMPACTER -- Me be needin ta make an impression afore me be leavin the arena.
Sorry ye be me guinny piggy, but in the end me be remembered. Ye can have it back
now as me be done with it and movin on to retirement. Best O' all Forge be gettin
his just deserts for not havin me back when me needed him. He still be O' thinkin
there be an "I" in team. -- Lucky Eireann leaving the throne behind ta gather cobwebs
over the next week.

HAR HAR HAR (weeeze) Guffaw Guffaw, O'l Lucky got ye arse Forge!!! Took out the
Duelmaster an left ye sittin O top with no title and a big O bullseye on ye back!!!
Ye even played along and dealt the other graduate a loss with oot knowin it! That be
teachin ye pompous arse!!!! -- Owsly (bent over holding stomach and gasping for air
and even slopping beer over his mug)

GAEGLIN -- Me believe the "to hotly engaged" might be from ye tryin to be lookin into
me eyes instead O' payin attention. It dannae be helpin that me be so much taller
that ye "eye level" only be comin ta me chest. Me could see how that might be O'
problem. Now that me gone perhaps you be able to concetrate O' bit more easier. --
Lucky Eireann

THERAEUS -- Good fight, me get beer now. Owsly buyin. -- Cairraig Amadan

RAMPER -- That little poker be sharp! When be da last time ye disinfected da thing?
Me be thinkin me need to be checked oot for blood borne pathogens. -- Ironie O'banter

Gaeglin -- I survived the fight, so I guess I should count myself lucky today. Good
fight, if you're on the winning side, hmm? -- Butterfly

Saryn -- So, are you a club, or a clone? It felt to me like you were a club--with
spikes on!--but what do I know, eh? -- Stormrider

Cancer -- Drat. I didn't realize you were a vampire. -- bloodless ghost of Fire
Crystal

Viedras -- Got an anger management problem there, don't you? -- ghost of Chickadee

Rutilius -- At least you weren't a club, a clone, or a killer. I can live with this,
all gods be thanked. -- Thunderbold
P.S. Any relation to Rutilated Quartz?

Daereon -- Sorry, I thought you knew: We only do one bloodfeud a year, and this
year's has already gone. Seriously, there was no suggestion that you sought the kill
deliberately, and life is too short to spend it seeking vengeance for accidents. --
Jorja, manager Cardow Hunters

Menhoir -- It's a dirty job, but someone's got to do it. -- Stormrider

Readers of Lapur -- Though the player who initially had a character in the Edge of
Night storyline is no longer with active here, I am guessing that having seen the
beginning of the story (and the middle), you might like the final phase (Gate of
Hell) as well. If not, feel free to say so. -- the Scribe
P.S. I would consider something local, if I had local volunteers?

POSTED: Arena recruitment effort, DM 32, Arvat -- seeing as our arena Participation
has dwindled in recent months, we're offering the following incentive to any new
teams looking for a new home arena. We will GIVE a Free Rollup to any manager
willing to agree to fight in Arvat for the next 10 turns. We have a number of VERY
solid arena teams stockpiled, and while we don't promise tournament godlings, we are
certain we can come up with teams with 3, 4 or even 5 solid arena warriors to start
out with.
In addition we'll honor any no-challenge requests by relatively new managers to
help you get off on the right foot.
If interested, please contact the Devil Advocates via Diplo or contact
theDarkOne via IM on the www DOT reality DOT com site. We will even give a choice of
teams available if requested.

                                 *TURF WAR VII RULES*
                            Starting Nov 2010 (12 turns)
Bring acclaim and glory to the North Fork (DM47) arena.

Anyone may participate; known alliances, new alliances, or temporary alliances
created solely to compete in the Turf War! To participate, each alliance must:
        1. Announce the Captain of the alliance in the North Fork (DM 47)
newsletter.
        2. Indicate in the newsletter which Captain/alliance you will join.
        3. Announcements made on the D2 Forums or elsewhere will not be accepted.

Captains are responsible for:
        1. Verifying/authorizing, in the North Fork newsletter those who wish to
participate under the banner of their alliance. (Lack of participant indication of
joining and/or lack of lack of Captain confirmation will delay a team's participation
in the Turf War.)

        2. Distribution of prizes should their alliance win the Turf War.
        3. Submit two (2) RSI Roll-Up Certificates to participate. (Note: Captains
may, if they wish, submit certs for all potential members of their alliance.)

Participating managers who are not Captains must:
        1. Submit two (2) RSI Roll-Up Certificates to participate (Unless already
submitted by Captain. Note: extras will not be returned, but will go into the winning
pool of prizes.)
        2. Announce their intent to compete with manager name, team name, and
alliance they will represent in the North Fork (DM 47) newsletter. Announcement made
on the D2 Forums will not be accepted.
               a. No scores will be tabulated until an RSI Gift Certificate is
received, and participant indication and captain confirmation are posted in the North
Fork newsletter. NO EXCEPTIONS.
               b. Before a manager can compete, he/she must declare themselves in
the North Fork (DM 47) newsletter as stated above AND be verified in the newsletter
by the alliance Captain they will represent.
               c. Only one (1) team per player may compete. No multiple teams or
aliases will be allowed. Violations will result in immediate disqualification
(including team point adjustments) from the Turf War (so be sure to take any multiple
teams OFF of Team Maintenance and be certain not to run any other team warriors).
               d. Scoring will NOT be retroactive for teams/alliances that do not
properly declare or get captain confirmation or fail to send a Gift Certificate by
Turn 1. In other words, if your Gift Certificate is not received until Turn 3 of the
Turf War, and you have fought on Turns 1 and 2, your score will not begin until Turn
3. All conditions must be met before scoring will begin--declaration, verification,
and Gift Certificate received.
               e. No declarations or verifications will be accepted after Turn 5 of
the Turf War.
               f. For purposes of scoring, the moderators will score the Turf War
and settle any and all disputes as they arise. Their decisions will be final. (Note:
the intent is to have a very thorough set of rules so that few decisions, if any, are
required from the moderators.)

Scoring will be as follows for Fights:
                                   Win Loss Kill Die
Up Challenge +2 -2 +5 -5
Down Challenge 0 -2 0 -5
Match Up +1 -1 +1 -5
Bloodfeud Challenge (Up or Down) +2 -5 +5 -10
Champion ** x2 x2 x2 x2
Dark Arena* +10 -5 xx xx
Tournament Death*** -5
Halfway (6 round total) best alliance win/loss percentage ****
Final (12 round total) alliance w/l% percentage ****
*After 2nd win in DA, warrior scores no additional points for wins,
** A Champion's double score applies to his score only -- not to the opponent.
*** No warrior may be substituted without the proper use of the DA or arena death
or death in a tournament. There must be a maximum of five only on a team at any point
and time. (The penalty for such substitution is -10 points.) Points awarded for
tournament participation are 5 for any entrant, 15 for a TV and 25 for a TC. Death in
a tournament negates any tournament points gained and results in a-5 score.
    ***** Halfway points scored are 25, 20, 15, 10, 5, 5, 5 (etc) for 1st, 2nd, 3rd
(etc). (to qualify for any of these points the alliance must have fought 75% of its
possible fights.) Final 12 Round points scored are 40, 30, 20, 15, 10, 5, 5, 5 (etc)
for the 1st, 2nd, 3rd (etc). (to qualify for any of these points the alliance must
have fought 75% of its possible fights.)

Special Scoring Considerations for the Turf War are as follows:
Spy Report mention (team name only) +2
     1. No matter how many mentions or stylemasters, an individual team can score
only +2 in each category per round
Style Master +2
      1. No matter how many mentions or stylemasters, an individual team can score
only +2 in each category per round
Duelmaster +2

Champions:
     1. A Champion may be declared, but one is not mandatory.
     2. Only one Champion allowed per manager at any given time.
     3. Champions that graduate or are killed by another warrior in the arena, but
not the Dark Arena, may be replaced.
     4. Champions must have fought at least one previous fight in the North Fork
(DM47 arena) to be able to be declared a champion.

Bloodfeuds:
        1. Bloodfeuds will score points on all four (4) turns.
        2. There is no limit to which warrior may bloodfeud or how often.

Tournament Considerations:
        1. Tournament participation is ALLOWED and encouraged.
        2. Tournament Victors won during the course of the contest will gain a one
(1) time bonus of 25 15 points. This bonus will apply EACH time a warrior(s) wins
such status.
        3. Tournament Champions won during the course of the contest will gain a one
(1) time bonus of 50 25 points. This bonus will apply EACH time a warrior(s) win
such status.
        4. Points awarded for tournament participation are 5 for any entrant, (15
total for a TV and 25 total for a TC.) However, death in a tournament will result in
a -5 score for that tournament. (If a warrior TV's and is subsequently killed in a
tournament the points scored are -5 for that tournament.)
        5. Points for TVs and TCs and tournament deaths will be applied the Turn
after RSI posts tournament results in the North Fork (DM 47) newsletter (i.e., if the
results post on North Fork turn 275, points will be credited on North Fork turn 276
to the applicable teams).

Special Considerations:
        1. Each alliance begins the Turf War with zero (0) points.
        2. There will be NO alliance or team changes once the contest has begun. If
you begin the Turf War with Alliance A, you must end the Turf War with Alliance A.
If you begin the Turf War with Team A, you must end the Turf War with Team A.
        3. There will be a maximum of five (5) teams allowed per alliance for the
Turf War VII.
        4. The Dark Arena may be used on the first turn only, of every warrior,
without penalty.

Prizes:
The Turf War is normally a "winner take all" contest. However, for TWVII, a prize
will be awarded each of the twelve turns to the individual team/manager that fights
five fights and has the best w/l record that turn. (Tiebreakers are in order - kills,
recognition points earned.) All prizes and 100% of the Gift Certificates will be
awarded to the Captain of the winning alliance at the end of the competition. It is
the responsibility of the Captain to distribute Gift Certificates. Moderators will
submit a list of each manager on the winning alliance to RSI at the completion of the
contest for the non-Certificate prizes.

All entry fees (rollup certs) are awarded to the winning alliance, except for
the twelve reserved for the individual winning manager each week.)
The following prizes have been secured from RSI:
        1.  Renaming of the North Fork (DM 47) arena;
        2. Renaming of all Dark Arena Monsters (two for each manager in the winning
alliance);
        3. Known Favorites for one warrior on each team of the winning alliance
(warrior must be ranked Initiate or above, must be alive, and must have at least one
DM47 arena fight to receive this award).
        4. +1 Skill bonus potion for each manager on the winning alliance. Bonus
potion must be applied to a living warrior from (DM 47)
        5. +1 Skill bonus potion (one) for each and every individual manager who
fights in all 12 rounds AND 54 fights of the Turf War. Bonus potion must be applied
to a living warrior from (DM 47)
These RSI awards will be listed by the Moderator for claiming from RSI (Lee)
within 4 turns of the end of TW VI. The certs will be mailed to the winning alliance
by the Moderators within two weeks of the end of the TW.

Moderators:
The Moderators for this event will be Oz and Master Darque. They will arbitrate all
dealings during the course of the contest. Their decisions will be final. All
questions, comments, and scoring disputes may be directed to Land of Oz or Darque
Forces via diplo in DM 47. Managers with internet access may send a private message
to [The Consortium] or [Darque] on the Duel2 Forums. Lastly, you may also email
questions, comments, and scoring disputes to rebelnerfherder at yahoo dot com or
wfms101 at aol dot com.

Please note there have been rule changes from the last Turf War. Please read them
carefully!

This contest will begin in November 2010 following the Fall Mail In.
