                             Notes from the arena champ.

Hail, Freeblades of Lapur!

I find myself sitting upon this rather uncomfortable chair this evening,
surprised at being here. I had challenged Hydroponicus for the position, but when he
did not fight this week, it never occurred to me that I might still end up here.
Now, I look out there and I wonder which of you is planning to unseat me and I find
myself growing nervous. This is the discomfort of which I speak, not so much the
lack of cushioning in this infernal seat.
I've been informed by one of my Lord Daemonspawn's minions that I will be
defending my title this coming week, but that after that battle, I might be allowed
to fight in the summer tournament. His "creature" (they creep me out and I don't
like to think about them) said that perhaps I am ready for one last shot, as I will
likely be invited to the Isle of the Eye in a few short weeks. IF I should survive
those weeks. Should Daemonspawn chose to have his gladiators participate this
summer, and should I survive the next fight, I have been given the choice, and I
think, that after such a long run, perhaps I will attempt to take on the Champions.
Best of luck to all this coming week. May your blades be sharp and your shields
strong.

--Gilean Yasur, Duelmaster of Lapur

                                      SPY REPORT

Greetings, Warriors of LAPUR. Allow this humble servant Novgorodny Vir to give
you a respite from the fights in the form of this Spyreport. Those betting on STREET
WALKERS lost their shirt, as STREET WALKERS lost their fighting abilities: 0-0-0.
What's a move up by 5 you ask? (alright, maybe you didn't ask) Cause for
celebration, according to EQUESTORS. Say what you will about blind luck and dirty
fighting, but MID EARTH will tell you 601-536-29 is nothing to laugh at... MID EARTH
had cause to celebrate, after JEHLCH got 19 points by beating VIEDRAS. Win some,
lose some. Speaking of which, CASIMIR PULASKI was winsome, after beating MENHOIR and
seeing him lose 16 points. You could cut the tension with a scimitar as BERYLLIUM
BUFFER of METAL MINCERS met the Duelmaster. GILEAN YASUR successfully staved off a
grab for the roses by BERYLLIUM BUFFER of METAL MINCERS. Does LAPUR have no one
talented enough to dethrone him? Word has it one team in LAPUR is taking speech
lessons to try to bore their opponent to death. I'll bet it works.
And how sociable are LAPUR's warriors? Come, let us see. Perhaps the warriors
of METAL MINCERS should take up some hobbies, as they are the most avoided team...
The warriors of METAL MINCERS found their efforts at combat frustrated as MID EARTH
apparently had more important things to do than fight. Is it charming personality?
Conversational abilities? Good oral hygiene? Whatever it is, HARDWOOD is the most
challenged warrior. Word has it CHROME CUTTER suffered a romantic setback. Note how
it challenged SARYN, 32 points its senior. It's not whether you win or lose, but how
many points you get (4). Right, CHROME CUTTER? STORMRIDER found himself challenged
by a warrior 22 below: SULU. SULU of TREKKERS kept his wits as he defeated
STORMRIDER.
Ah, the duel! The roar of the oppenent, the smell of the crowd! SHAMBLING
MOUND in the Dark Arena wasn't enough for RUTILIUS of EQUESTORS. Maybe that certain
serving girl(?) at The Warty Toad will be! Questions are being raised about the
disposing of severed body parts in the arena. A certain tavern in LAPUR would I
avoid!
Leave me now, you base fools! As if buffeted by forces of nature beyond my
control, I must take my leave of this place. LAPUR, I leave you now. The Duelmaster
has agreed to foot my bill at The Warty Toad. 'Til next time-- Novgorodny Vir

Spartacus -- You wrote an interesting "spotlight" for a personal ad! How cool!
Thanks for the explanations and stuff, but let me say, that on behalf of The Metal
Mincers, just keep on participating. Learning improves with experience, and WE are
glad to have you here. -- Ora

Aye, Ora. WE done be agree'n on sumpin'. -- Oremaster

Gilean Assur -- Congrats, mighty Duelmaster! -- The Metal Mincers

Viedras -- What you did SUCKED, you cheap Bissel! I had plans, which you blew away
by reversing the air flow. You dirty, rotten, ugly vac-cretin! -- Inconel Indenter,
Metal Mincer

Miss Conduct -- What fun I had with you. I like bad girls! -- Beryllium Buffer,
Metal Mincer

Blunt Force -- Your use of the warrior name "cyborg" is an act of noncompliance, and
must cease and desist. Ora and Oremaster and their "borgs," clearly short for
cyborg, have patent rights to the name. You must either pay the royalties forthright
or prepare for litigation. -- Loran Smythe, Esq., Corporate Legal Head of Metal
Mincers

Uh, what he said. Aye. -- Oremaster

For the first time in a long time, The metal Mincers will have a large contingent at
The Face. Most warriors are at, or quite near, the maxing point. Please bear with
us as we prep for Milwaukee. -- Ora and Oremaster

'N me borgs jest wanna fite?! Never let yer woman git in charge! Naye. Sheesh! --
Oremaster (dialing 1-800-BAD-KILL)
P.S. That's a secret!

Oremaster -- Honey, whatever are we going to do for our anniversary this July? -- Ora

Spartacus -- We dannae be sure whether ye be talkin aboot us down challengin or just
in general, but we be thinkin we need ta clarify that we dannae believe we have DC'd
ye. We have only DC'd once that we recall which be quickly brought ta our attention
by the Purple Sage back O' couple years ago and it dannae be intentional and even
then only be by O' point. We did however agree with ye on how we hate match ups
where their do be a huge FE difference with someone considerably above us. But as we
said before. It does happen whether we like it or not. -- Owsly

YYTTRIA -- Is that pronounced like that one old song Y-M-C-A or is it pronounced YET
TRIA with a stutter? Inquirin drunks want to know. -- Owsly

Parthenius -- Quit pickin on the beggars, ye big sisy!!! Sure they can be persistant
but that dannae give ye the right to smackem around outside their cardboard box. --
Owsly

Calypso -- Looks like Brad the Inhaler for got his inhaler. Just sayin. -- Owsly,
just kickin sand on some feet

Stormrider -- It's been quite some time since I've seen a war hammer break, but I
guess it didn't really bother you that much. -- Arylyn

Nero -- That was not the sort of fight I had expected at all. I really need to have
a conversation with the local black smith. The quality of weapons seems really
questionable right now. -- Yyttria

Grassfire -- Do you always make fun of the dead? I enjoy reading about the Roman
Empire. IT apears that we, the US, are only going to last about one-fifth the time
the Empire did but that is the subject for a different subject. You see, Cincius was
a gladiator way back when. My Cincius has a way to go to match the old Cincius'
record. Hopefully, my guy will survive. The old Cincius only made it through 8
matches before he was buried. I get the names for my fighters from books, REAL
BOOKS, about the Roman Empire written by guys like Livy. -- Spartacus

Sulu -- You have destroyed my faith in the Federation. I thought they were a kind,
peace loving, forgiving bunch of people. You have proven it otherwise. -- Spartacus

Bag O' Bones -- Has a nicer ring than Bag OF Bones, don't ya think. Thank you for
making up my mind. Porr old Rulilius is off to the Dark Arena thanks to the
humiliating defeat you hung around his neck. Too many attributes in the normal
range, not enough skill learns. -- Spartacus

Mid Earth -- Nice up challenge. From what I have been able to put together while
participating in this game, almost 1800 fights, you only had about a 60% chance of
winning when our style differences are compared against each other, especially with a
lower recognition score. Then again, looking at your total fights maybe you know
something I don't. Please do not give me any advice about armor/encumbrance. --
Spartacus

Spartacus -- Ah... I aim to please? -- Grassfire

I will drink a toast to the memory of Abilix. -- Sweet Birch

Arylyn -- Ma'am, I needed that win. So did you, of course, but I maintain that my
need was greater. How can a man hold up his head with a losing record, after all? --
Stormrider

Dr. Strangeleaf -- If Jorja finds leaves like that growing on my tree, I'm in
trouble. -- Hardwood

Khan -- I hope you don't end up in the Dark Arena after losing to me. I'm not
actually that bad, you know, and there is the experience difference. -- Sweet Birch

The Iron Lung -- Okay, so I can't out-shout you. Big deal. -- Claybank

Jeter -- Take that? Or some reasonable facsimile. -- Grassfire
