TEAM SPOTLIGHT
Lapur -- I apologize for not sending in any more ranting personals. That is over
with. Feel free to write whatever you want or act as you wish.
I have been attempting to try and figure out why I am having the difficulties
with my fighters. Having lost all my research during my move has made that
difficult. I did have some handwritten notes left but two years of work was gone. I
decided to try and reconstruct some that work with character turn sheets that I still
possessed. I was surprised to find I had more than I thought. So I broke them down
in styles and started with the largest number, which was Bashers. So here is a
summary of what I put together. Unfortunately, it is not as extensive as my
originals. Feel free to comment.
Bashers: Total of 632 fights: 340-292-28 for a winning percentage of 53.8%. Had
the best success against Parry-Riposte, 18-9, and worst against Striker, 47-68. So
against all types from best record to worst it looked like this: PR, SL, PL, AB, PS,
BA, WS, LU, TP, ST. For those of you who like to fight WITHOUT armor, the record was
67-50 for a 57.3 winning percentage. As for what stats seem to work best: For as
long as I can remember, it has always been a Wit minimum of 17, size minimum of 13,
and strength minimum of 11. Well, I think I can put that to the test:
Celadus: ST 17 SZ 6 WT 17, 24-17-2, 129 rec
Domitian: ST 15 SZ 11 WT 17, 15- 8-1, 125 rec -- promoted after 23 fights
Mucianus: ST 16 SZ 9 WT 18, 22-11-2 122 rec
Scorpus: ST 20 SZ 8 WT 16, 25-21-2 108 rec
Juvenal ST 15 SZ 14 WT 17, 21-10-4 100 rec -- most kills of all my bashers
This is just those bashers whose recognition was over 100. I had a total of 30
bashers to go over, 12 of which were killed, one in a tournament, and seven who went
to the Dark Arena.
As for skills learned, most to fewest would be attack, initiative, decisiveness,
riposte, defense and parry.
As for strategies that work best, well, it seems as the fighters learn skills,
it becomes necessary to modify strategies slightly and that is what is causing me the
most difficulty at this time because what worked in the past is not working in the
present. When I did this the first time, I tried to analyze weapon vs. armor, looked
at dialogue in the turns to try to determine what was going on. I did not do that
this time. The only other thing I looked at was the recognition number the fighters
had to see how that influenced the fight.
Now I make a difference between the recognition number that appears on the turn
sheet and the FE or Fight Experience number that ONLY appears on those character
sheets you get prior to a Tournament. As far as I can determine, they ARE NOT the
same number. I say this because I have gotten pre-tournament sheets where the
recognition number and FE number were not the same. So, now that you understand what
I am comparing.
There is a certain recognition difference where it is almost impossible for one
of the fighters to win. I arrived at this conclusion by comparing the numbers at the
top of the turn sheet and charting wins/losses by the difference in this number.
Hope that is clear--if not ask questions. I have found three points at which the
winning percentage for the fighter with the higher recognition makes it increasingly
difficult for the fighter with the lower number to win. This transcends style and
the tier they are in. If I can figure this out, I am sure others have and it is the
reason I get upset when someone PURPOSELY down-challenges by a large factor. I would
like to thank the manager that pointed out that a down-challenge can occur to a turn
being processed a turn or two late and that when it was originally sent would not
have caused a down-challenge, I had not thought about that. If someone down-
challenges and the difference is around 10 points, then I can assume that is what
happened because I cannot remember ever losing a large number of recognition points
for losing a fight.
Anyway, I still have a couple of other styles to look at: wall of steel,
slasher and lunger-- those are the styles for which I still have a good number of
turn sheets. -- Spartacus

DUELMASTER'S COLUMN
Notes from the arena champ.
What a pleasure it is to finally be HERE. On top of Lapur. The Duelmaster. An
honor and a prideful pleasure. Certainly.
I have been working on this a while, ever since that disastrous start as an 0-3
Rookie in my first tournament. Since then I have done better tournament-wise, going
19-9 total in the Apprentices, Inits, and Adepts, and finally adding a TV.
I am clearly glad to be here, but this arena is filled with fine warriors, so my
length of stay as DM, or even alive, is questionable. But I shall enjoy the moment.
I can't believe Chromie is dead! Verus killed him on a random match up. How
sad. Good aimers are hard to find. Let me tell you about my now-deceased friend,
Chrome Cutter:
5-13-10-17-8-10-21 bonused parry and defense, but hosed riposte, AB
11-8-0 in arena, 4-6 in tournaments
fougt for DM of Lapur against Killian McGuiness and lost
learned 51 skills, of which ZERO were decise
skill learn rate 2,25
seemed to like the SH at 39-120-12, but 12-24-0 with others
he will not graduate and become a part of The Consortium some day 1000
I miss him.
I am here. I am open to challenges. I will be mking challenges of my own. Come
and get me, for I am...

SPY REPORT
Well, what are you looking at, LAPUR? Ain't you never seen Snide Clemens
before? Ah, shaddup and listen to my news. Later days, CARDOW HUNTERS, since METAL
MINCERS took top team from you this turn, you guys are old news. SERPENTS HOLD
turned their 2-1-0 turn into a 4th place rank in the listings this turn. Any better
than this, and you get put on hit lists. Gee, I'm impressed, a 4-1-0 is nice, but
don't get cocky, METAL MINCERS, the Fates teach humility, and the Fates are proud.
Of course, we're all terribly impressed to see ULPHOR win a fight and gain 21 points,
terribly. Tsk, tsk, FLIE beat SWEET BIRCH and SWEET BIRCH lost 13 points. You're
breakin' my heart. And if variety is the spice of life, LAPUR may be getting bland,
as BERYLLIUM BUFFER stays top dog in the city. Kickbacks and bribes, kickbacks and
bribes, how else do you think some of these guys win their fights? Skill? Ha!
My mother always told me, 'If you don't have anything nice to say, start
talking.' I loved that woman. What's the big D? BOHICA was the most avoided team?
Bunch of lily livered... grumble... mumble... curse... And it looks like METAL
MINCERS avoided them the most this turn. What a pack of would be losers, if you ask
me. Hmph. Ooh, I'm frightfully impressed, STORMRIDER was this turn's most
challenged warrior. Watch that ego swell, sports fans.
Ah, now we come to my favorite part, where we see all the guys who are dead and
gone, and get to see if their team cared. I could say I saw this coming, but so
could anyone else. Anyway, this turn it came. UHURA's 8-16-1 has earned her the
Dark Arena. It's about time RUTILIUS got beat for picking on warriors like DR.
STRANGELEAF. Bravo, BLUNT FORCE. See you at The Warty Toad. Not that I'll be
buying the drinks, but I'll be glad to see INCONEL INDENTER and METAL MINCERS at The
Warty Toad tonight celebrating their bloodfeud victory over VERUS. Titanium shields
and bamboo daggers, guess what brave team is developing these kinds of weapons?
I was about to buy a new quill pen the other day, but some fighter took it for
an epee. Forgive me for writing with a dagger. Phlllt! Just had to do that before
I leave the fine city of LAPUR. I feel much better now. Glad to see the back of
this place-- Snide Clemens
