Iaye:

The Chardinee's "nearest suitable pub" was not a prepossessing place. Senator
Sedalia would not, left to himself, have entered the portals of the Broken Jug, even
to speak with a...no, he might have entered to speak with voters. You had to go
where the voters were, after all. But there was no one in the Broken Jug to vote,
except the barmaid, and she simply served them all beer in mugs indifferently clean,
and withdrew to a shadowed corner.
Sedalia peered dubiously into his mug, then set it aside and folded his hands on
the table. "You had something to say, Chardinee?"
"Yes, I want to talk to you about Ti."
"Tea? That might be better than the beer, if it's made with truly boiling
water," the senator mused.
"Not TEA," the standby said. "TI. The town that used to be on the coast."
"Ah, THAT Ti. Very well, talk about it."
Gissanniah paused in the act of wringing the rainwater out of her hair. "Ti
vanished when parts of Krael rose," she said. Then she frowned. "But it was just
the town that vanished, not the bit of coast it was on. I seem to recall a scholarly
debate...?"
The Chardinee's normally expressionless face wrinkled into disdain. "Scholarly
debate!" His tone made the words a curse. "Yes, they debated."
"I recall that the main argument was that Ti vanished to balance the
reappearance of Krael?" Gissanniah said. "Despite the fact that it was only the town
and not the whole bit of coast that vanished, and Krael came back from the floor of
the lake with buildings AND land."
"Then their logic is flawed," Sedalia said briskly. "I have always distrusted
scholarly explanations in any case. There's too much..." he waved a hand vaguely,
"too much ivory tower in them."
"I believe that phrase was originally 'ivied tower'," the Chardinee said.
"Who'd make a tower out of ivory, anyway?" He brushed that off. "No, Ti disappeared
as a result of an intended hostile act, not to maintain some sort of 'balance' in the
area. This is indisputable."
Gissanniah opened her mouth, possibly to dispute that statement, but the senator
silenced her with a pat on the hand and a minute shake of his head. "Against whom
was the hostility directed?" he asked.
"Against the Chardinee Society. The Chapter House in Ti was a major one, and
many of our records were kept there. Some material is duplicated elsewhere, but much
was lost with the loss of Ti."
"And you are about to tell us," the senator guessed, a slight frown on his face,
"that this loss matters to more than just your Chardinee Society, of which so little
is known. Along with WHY it matters and how you expect us to help make good the
situation, I suppose." His frowned deepened. "I dislike secret societies. I
distrust them. They are elitist and conspiratorial."
     M. Teleskoi Chardinee drew himself up to his full, unimpressive height of five-
foot-nine. "Our Society was founded with the BEST motives, and only people of
established probity are admitted!"
Sedalia raised one eyebrow slightly. "Oh, of course. I don't doubt it."
The Chardinee leaned across the table, dropping his voice to a whisper.
"There's a plot, you see. A conspiracy. We've been working at unraveling it for
years, but much of our data--and all our best analysts--were in Ti. And now..." he
spread his hands, "it's all gone!"
"Coincidentally NOW, while we have problems with this greedy mage Khaldren?"
Gissanniah asked.
Chardinee straightened and shook his head firmly. "No, not coincidentally. He
is involved in it--only as a cat's-paw of the Folstrom, we believe. At least, we
think we believe it, but without the full records, how can we be SURE? But," he
leaned forward again, "there is reason to suspect that the records weren't actually
DESTROYED, you see, but were taken into Krael! If we can find them--"
"You want us to enter that drowned and resurrected city to search for your
missing records?" Gissanniah demanded? "That's insane! We'd have to be insane!"
"No." Now the Chardinee looked triumphant, and Sedalia braced himself for
whatever might come next. "The missing records contain data that will make it
possible to destroy Khaldren and re-sink Krael, AND they have some useful clues for
dealing with the Folstrom!"
Senator Sedalia sighed and looked at Gissanniah. "You can't imagine how much it
pains me to say this, but if there is even a CHANCE that he is correct, we must do as
he asks."

                                      SPY REPORT

If you were disturbed from your beauty rest only to have to watch a bunch of
IAYE brutes like you, you'd be grouchy, too. Later days, CRYSTAL PALACE, since THE
A'S -- LOSERS II took top team from you this turn, you guys are old news. THE A'S --
LOSERS II turned their 4-1-1 turn into a 1st place rank in the listings this turn.
Any better than this, and you get put on hit lists. Of course, we're all terribly
impressed to see EARTHQUAKE EXCUSE win a fight and gain 18 points, terribly. Tsk,
tsk, TALKIN' CAMEL WALK beat HITHELLIENE and HITHELLIENE lost 8 points. You're
breakin' my heart. And it's out with the old, in with the new, as STEINBACH takes
the Title and last week's bar tab from the old Duelmaster. Heh, heh. The Rat Nest,
humph! I've tasted better ale at mortuaries. Where do they get this stuff? From
IAYE's trash dumps?
Well, let's take a look at some more misdeeds of you miserable sword-boys.
WRESTLMANIACS, I suppose you'll be glad to know you were this turn's most avoided
team. Care to know who is the most afraid of you? And who led the way in this mass
act of cowardice? Let's see, well, whatcha know? It was LENPROS. Ha ha ha ha!
Ooh, I'm frightfully impressed, RISHTEKE was this turn's most challenged warrior.
Watch that ego swell, sports fans. I guess I can give a little credit to SGT. SCHMID
of LENPROS for challenging up by 22 to RISHTEKE. SGT. SCHMID lost to get 61 points
of recognition.
Ah, now we come to my favorite part, where we see all the guys who are dead and
gone, and get to see if their team cared. And what a stunning loss we have here,
boys and girls, PERROJO of RED DOG GANG has added the final loss to his 11-22-2. Tee
hee! We're all going to die in the end, so why worry if the fate catches up with you
sooner that later?
What does the IAYE arena have in common with the inns? It's just as comfortable
to sleep in either place. Ha ha ha ha! Phlllt! Just had to do that before I leave
the fine city of IAYE. I feel much better now. Glad to see the back of this place--
Snide Clemens

Hey, Red Dog, I think Big's foot got in his way. A royal victory for me as usual. --
Lady Huntsman

Stone Cold -- Whoa now! Next time you let me finish my prayers before you jump the
gun like that. I protest! And I shall complain to the commission for allowing you
to have cans of beer in the arena! -- Pastor Pentane

Outback Jack -- You should feel fine about that fight as the best man won. Perhaps
some day you can be best man. -- Sgt Schmid

What?! No DM Column? Enchanted, what gives? -- Lenpro

Bigfoots -- Now ease up on me. I taught you that one skill I know. -- Sgt Schmid

Penrue -- Preference? Why, no. We navy men love an adventure and a challenge--
especially if it is on water. Bring it on. -- Admiral Iso

Lady Huntsman -- Oh, my, you ARE such a lady! If I had a mustache I would twirl it,
I would tip a hat to you if I had one. Gosh. This is a complete honor, even when
you kept turning me down when I asked you to dance. I'm just complete hornswoggled.

is always, ALWAYS succeeded by the Cloudy. -- Rishteke

Rowdy Roddy -- Aren't you the old fossil, eh? -- Perrojo
P.S. But you should be an orc. That would be PERFECT with your team name.

Sunlight Splatrz -- Yes, I see that it did, and YOU are going to have to wipe it up.

P.S. And NEXT time, put down a dropcloth to catch the drops, okay? Use the head to
save the back.

Snowy Snow -- Finest kind, and very deep, too, I see. -- Fence Post

Lenpro -- That last suggestion seems...unlikely. -- Leeta

The Olympics have arrived!

The Mordanti Olympics, having been gone for six years, have returned to the Mordanti
Alliance, sponsored by Amicitia Primoris. Teams have competed against each other for
recognition and notoriety four times in the past. It is far past time for the fifth
Mordanti Olympics to be held. The Mordanti Olympics shall be held in the Mordant
arena (DM-1) from May 1st (T544) through Oct 30 (T557). There will be a
'registration period' lasting until T543, where teams will be allowed to register by
activating in Mordant and declaring their participation in the personals. Rules will
