The story so far:
In the hopes of finding something of interest, Senator Sedalia of the Lenpros
and Gissanniah of the Red Dog Gang rowed out to Bird Rock off the northeast side of
the island of Iaye, where they ended up rescuing the Khalhums standby, Kegrald
Steelhand, from a Thing.
Returning to the island, they were joined by M. Teleskoi Chardinee, who said
that the Things in the water were all part of a Plot that revolved around Krael,
which sank between Point and Iaye four hundred years ago and has recently risen again
from the waters of the lake. The Trustworthy Scribe, Alvin Moss, scoffed at this
notion and attempted to prevent the gladiators from pursuing answers to their
questions at the ancient Archive on Iaye. A struggle ensued. Messenger Bird of
Gamehendge brought the intrepid two a cryptic scroll.
In the Archive, they fought the Ruthless Jaywalker and another Thing, who were
attempting to burn the priceless books. Another Lenpro, the alchemist Old Doc Circ,
helped them foil this horrifying purpose, and an Archivist located a map of Krael-
that-was for them. By combining the map with the cryptic scroll, they had a chart of
the power spots of Krael, the places that would have to be destroyed to prevent the
time-traveling magician Khaldren from using the old city to focus all the power of
Ghea (or at least a lot of it) into his hands. If they could figure out how to use
it.
The last-given part of the adventure:
"I thought we were going to figure out what the map was about," Gissanniah said.
"The one that Messenger Bird brought us."
"That, too--" the senator began.
"You have a map of Krael?" Kegrald asked. "I saw a map of the tunnel system
once, and I might be able to guess where some of it goes if you--"
Sedalia opened his mouth to deny the map, but Old Doc Circ cut in faster,
snatching the scroll from the inside pocket of the senator's tailcoat and unfurling
it in front of the dwarf.
Kegrald seized it and spread it out carefully, pursing his bearded lips in a
silent whistle. After a moment of study, turning the map this way and that and
glancing from it to the towers of risen Krael that were visible across the narrow
strait, he nodded sharply and turned toward the waiting gladiators. "These--" his
finger jabbed at the mysterious, crooked black lines on the map, "are the tunnels my
grandfather built for the King of Krael."
Sedalia forgot, or set aside, anyway, his annoyance with Circ and squinted at
the map himself, looking over the dwarf's shoulder from map to city. "If those
tunnels are still open," he said, "we should be able to reach at least half of the
critical points in this 'pattern' without exposing ourselves on the streets."
"The tunnels will be open," Kegrald said. "Didn't I tell you they were a
technical masterpiece?"
"But...they're under the ground," Gissanniah said. She shivered. "Under the
ground and under the water BOTH."
Both Lenpros looked at her.
She flushed. "I don't like being under the ground, okay? It isn't in my job
description."
Old Doc Circ patted her shoulder. "Claustrophobia is nothing to be ashamed of,"
he said. "I have an elixir that will be of help--"
The senator muttered, "Quack. Old goat. There's nothing to fear in a sound,
dwarven-made tunnel. It's as safe as walking down a hall."
Doc Circ pointedly ignored him and held out a small blue bottle to the young
woman. "A swallow of this, my dear, and you will find the tunnel bearable. It won't
cure your fear, mind, but it will make it possible for you to set the fear aside.
Trust me on this, I am never wrong about these things, you know."
Gissanniah accepted the bottle as eagerly as she might have accepted a live
snake. "Do we have to row out to Bird Rock again and climb down inside it?"
"No." Kegrald and Sedalia spoke simultaneously.
"There appears to be another entrance here on Iaye, and two in Point," the
senator added. "We need not go out to Bird Rock and dare the water monsters."
"And a damned good thing, too," Kegrald muttered. "That's no fate for a dwarf!"
"No doubt, no doubt," Sedalia said. He took a last look at the map and rolled
it up briskly. "The other access appears to be from somewhere on the waterfront,
probably in the cellar of an older building. Let us go at once."
New material next time. Be here to read all about it.
SPY REPORT
Hail IAYE! Warriors of the arena, prepare to be praised and blamed for your
deeds. Now keep the taverns open late tonight, for there are sorrows to drown for
LENPROS, whose 0-0-0 this turn dropped them by 4 into 6th. CIRCUS MAXIMUS stable has
parlayed this turn's 2-3-0 into a 3 space move up the rankings. This brings them up
to 5th place. Good work, guys! The THE A'S -- LOSERS II guild has had a 3-1-0 turn
and deserves to be watched in the future. You never know where this kind of thing
can lead. And let's see, MR SELF DESTRUCT fought RAINY RAIN and gained 21 points and
contributed to CIRCUS MAXIMUS' 2-3-0. RAINY RAIN has lost to MR SELF DESTRUCT,
falling 13 points, while helping make CRYSTAL PALACE a 2-3-0 turn. Due to his
absence and inability to defend the throne, CHIEF TOMTOM has lost the title of
Duelmaster. And all eyes were on BIG MAC this turn as he ascended to the throne of
Duelmaster. IAYE has a new victor! Tell me, is nothing sacred? I have heard from
unimpeachable sources that The Rat Nest uses trolls in their stew. Talk about
gristle!
Oriental wise man once say, 'Hiding behind shields prevents proper sun tanning.'
Inscrutable, but true.
The Dark Arena is for those who cannot win, not who cannot lose with grace.
Dignity in life or death is the warrior's creed. Is it really true that IAYE has
more dishwashers per capita that fighters? Just thought I'd ask...
I like this place, IAYE, the taverns have old wine, and young serving girls.
Who could ask for more? Well, I'm burning daylight here in IAYE and I've a long road
ahead of me. Happy Trails. Until the sun next rises and my pen sets to paper--
Alarond the Scribe

PERSONAL ADS
Hello everyone, I moved recently and was surprised to find my teams and all of my old
fights. It's been eight years but it's all coming back to me and I'm sure you'll
find an older more mature Ringmaster at the helm. I see both old and new faces
gracing the sands of Iaye. Hello everyone--it's good to be back! -- Ringmaster
Welcome back! Enjoy and all that good stuff! -- Ed.
Lenpro -- Hey buddy, how you been? Good to see the Consortium is still active and
well! Looking forward to seeing Chief Tomtom's stats. -- Ringmaster
Xoxoxo -- There's some kind of disgusting irony in the fact that you're a golem.
HUGE letters of love...from a golem. Sad. -- Rishteke
Garcia -- Uh...shouldn't that be Circus MINIMUS? I mean, I never saw a grown person
that small before. Kinda creepy. -- Bigfoots
P.S. Nothing personal, just, I never did see anyone that small but grown.
Mr Self Destruct -- And a fine thing that might be. Not that I didn't appreciate the
five skills, but I always feel uneasy around somebody who can defeat me in the arena.
It's a reflex. -- Dr Trinaire
The Friendly Conthtable tried to put hith hand, well, THERE, you know? I can't
thtand it when thomebody doth that. -- Hithelliene
Windy Wind -- Blowy-blow me down, eh? Except that you didn't. I had some trees to
form a windy-wind breaky-break. -- Fence Post, part of a fine hedge row
Sgt Schmid -- This is always a goal, though not the only one. -- Dr Trinaire
Ed. -- What I think is, I think everybody in that part of the country deluded
themselves into thinking that the couple of decades of dampness was the climate
instead of just some weather. I think what you have NOW is the climate. -- Dr
Trinaire
That's what I think too, and it's not very comforting. Still, we had some good
rain last night. -- Ed.
Hithelliene -- Aw, just a little one? -- Jimmy-boy, Friendliest Constable in town
Walt Weiss -- Your manager has cursed you with that team name, as I am sure you
realize by now. Also, I'm not in the mood to put up with comments from tall people
today. Another day, who knows? -- Kegrald Steelhand, Khalhums Dwarf
