Point:
The people in front of Lady Protector Stepharoo hesitated, and the group seemed
almost to stumble, as a first response to her call for a rescue. Then someone in the
heart of the mass began to shout that the Pointers should "Kill them all!"
"No!" Stepharoo knew, immediately and without thought, that a killing frenzy
was the wrong approach, always the wrong approach. Even if there were no innocents
at risk--and there were, oh, yes, more than she could count--a killing frenzy would
play into the hands of the Kraelians. But how could one person stop them?
Senator Sedalia came to a stop beside her, breathing heavily. As soon as he
could draw a breath without panting, he began, "Citizens of Point!"
Oh, gods, he was going to reason with them! You couldn't reason with a mob, and
he should KNOW that. Stepharoo opened her mouth to remind him of that, then closed
it again. You couldn't reason with a senator, either.
"Citizens of Point! Champions of Truth, Justice, and Really Good Whiskey!"
There were a few cheers from the swirling crowd. And another shout of "Kill
them all!"
"It is not the Andorian Way to kill without need!" Sedalia shouted.
"Bad choice," Gissanniah muttered.
Stepharoo glanced at her. "Why?"
The Iayean shrugged. "Idealism is...not appealing to people who are frightened.
And these Pointers are scared spitless of Krael and what might come out of it."
Steph didn't want to admit it, but she knew it was true. The crowd stank of
fear. There must be something they could do, though!
"If they won't respond to idealism," Old Doc Circ said, coming to a stop beside
the two women and bending over to ease a stitch in his side, "then we must find some
other way to enlighten them. We--"
"Enlighten! Of course!" Stepharoo smacked her hand on her forehead. "My only
excuse is that I'm new to this stuff," she muttered. She held her sword and shield
high, angling them so that sunlight reflecting off them would play across the crowd.
The soft golden glow swept out.
Senator Sedalia, ever alert to shifting forces in a crowd, took the point at
once. "Citizens of Point!" he bellowed, "see the Light! A rescue! A rescue!"
The crowd stirred, turned, and faced downslope toward Krael and the approaching
groups of people.
Fandil heard the change in the sounds from above them on the slope with relief.
Adie's clear voice rose above the surf-roar of crowd sound, though he couldn't make
out the words. He risked a glance over his shoulder. The crowd was pouring down
toward them, and it looked bloodthirsty enough to make his hair stand on end, but its
attention was focused beyond the point where he and Cho and this gladiator from
Ardivent had made their stand. He spared a moment's pity for the Aruaki who had been
turned into golems, but only a moment: death here and now would be a cleaner end for
them than the Kraelians were likely to give them, cleaner by far than the mindless
travesty of life they had now.
The gladiator Eclipse raised his dark shield, and where that shadow fell, the
golems fell, too. Not dead, when the shadow passed on, they twitched and groped
their way back upright, but they would not be able to attack by charging through the
darkness.
SPY REPORT
Hail and well met warriors of IAYE! Know me for who I am, Zontani Sharp Eyes,
Spymaster extraordinaire of all Alastari. Former top team CIRCUS MAXIMUS was
unseated this week as LENPROS moved up from 2nd ranking to take the top spot with a
3-1-0 record for the round. Fortune did not smile upon THE WARLOCKS this time out
who this turn suffered a fall into 11th position in the wake of a 0-2-0 round. My
praise to LENPROS for their 3-1-0 week this time out. Indeed, it was a skillfully
fought round deserving of notice! UNSCATHED caught the eye of many in the
gladiatorial commission as it skillfully bested LADY HUNTSMAN and was awarded 23
points in recognition. In one of the week's more notable duels, UNSCATHED put down
LADY HUNTSMAN, causing her to lose 17 points of recognition in the process. Who here
was not present for the title fight this week as SGT. SCHMID boldly challenged
SUNLIGHT SPLATRZ in order to strive for the Duelmasters honors? The city has turned
out in honor of SGT. SCHMID, for with his arena victory he may now lay claim to the
highest position in the city! Would you believe that over half of the old women in
IAYE seem to feel that they could fight better than you gladiators?
I have been in deep conclave with my spies who watched all that has recently
transpired. Indeed there is much I would report. My inside sources tell me that the
team to beat in IAYE these days is CIRCUS MAXIMUS. At least, most blades in town are
looking to avoid them. Methinks more than a few here could name the guild it was
that spent the better part of last week avoiding CIRCUS MAXIMUS. Indeed it was
LENPROS. Mighty fighters cannot but expect competition from those below. BIGFOOTS
take warning! You have more than a few enemies in IAYE. I cannot but express pride
for the fearlessness of SNOWY SNOW who cast caution to the winds and challenged
BIGFOOTS, a fighter 30 points higher. The CRYSTAL PALACE stable will be up late
tonight, for indeed it was SNOWY SNOW who claimed victory in the contest, ascending
20 in recognition! A match that raised a few eyebrows at the games this week, it
seems that MAPT posted a challenge against the more highly recognized FENCE POST.
The results, you ask? Well, the firebrand MAPT subdued FENCE POST. Remember
warriors, this is the discipline of steel.
Vendettas. Bloodied blades and broken spears. Indeed the city has seen more
than its fair share of red in recent times. Some say a warrior is judged by the way
he bears arms. One thing is sure, better a dagger in hand then a sword on the belt!
A thought before I go. Each warrior practices one style, but must not the wise
manager learn the secrets of them all? Sadly warriors, now longer can I keep thy
company nor savor the ale of thy fine city. Depart I must and soon! Till we meet
again, remember: a turtle walks slow, hides head in a shell, and harms no one; a
lion runs to slay its prey.-- Zontani Sharp Eyes

NEED A TURF WAR ALLIANCE?? Master Beru, Wretch, Reaper, and Xoan have come together
to form an Alliance for the TURF WAR in DM47 with no regards for experience in
competitions or even the game. If you want to enjoy the thrills of the competition,
we have space for up to three more managers. Contact Master Beru at
d_spinella@msn.com for more information or send a note to Master Beru at DM 29--Army
of Darkness. If you are interested, we need to move quickly, since the contest
starts in January and there are a few requirements to meet to participate. May your
blades find the chinks in your enemy's armor. -- Master Beru

ANNOUNCING THE NO-TOURNAMENT ARENA (81)
As an American I honor my cultural heritage by stealing any good idea. This idea was
originally proposed by Lord Xiang in November 2005. RSI will be opening the arena
(81) for teams willing to sign the following pledge:
* I pledge that I will not send warriors from this arena to a Tournament, nor will I
use a Tournament prize on a warrior from this arena.
* I pledge to run a full team when I run turns in this arena. If circumstances
preclude my running less than a full team I will notify the Player Committee.
* I agree to abide by the decisions of the Player Committee.
* I understand that any warrior that participates in a Tournament shall be sent to
the Dark Arena until they are dead.
* I understand that any warrior that receives a Tournament prize shall be send to
the Dark Arena until they are dead.
The following are the rules for joining this No-Tournament arena
1. No tournament play for warriors in this arena (Dead tournament or otherwise).
2. One team per manager.
3. Teams start with new rollup (or a zero fight equivalent team is transferred into
this arena.)
4. No tourney prizes allowed to modify warriors in the arena.
5. Twenty teams required, per RSI.
6. Waivers are required to allow self-regulation on tourney ban, granting RSI
authority to Dark Arena any warrior that participates in a Tournament (until the
warrior is dead).
7. Rotating council to enforce tourney ban and maintain arena integrity.
The main purpose of the Player Committee is to maintain fair play in the arena:
* Warriors that participate in Tournaments will be sent to the Dark Arena until they
are dead. This means that the Player Committee has the power to send another
player's warrior to the Dark Arena
* Managers that abuse the rules of the Arena may be banned/transferred from the
Arena.
The player with the most votes for Chairman will fill slot 1 [Chairperson] and that
term expires end of March 2007.
The player with the most votes overall will fill slot 5 and that term expires end of
November 2007.
The player with the second most votes overall will fill slot 4 and that term expires
end of September 2007.
The player with the third most votes overall will fill slot 3 and that term expires
end of November 2007.
The player with the fourth most votes overall will fill slot 2 and that term expires
end of May 2007.
During the month that the chairperson's term expires the Player Committee will select
one of the remaining 4 players to be the next chairperson. During the month that any
member's term expires the arena will vote for a different player to join the Players'
Committee.
If you want to be a candidate for the player committee:
1. Post a message in the Duel2 Forum at
http://www.reality.com/duel2/modules.php?name=Forums
2. E-Mail Deke at DekeYoung@Comcast.NET
3. Send a Diplomatic Note to Doc LeGrand's Lab [ARENA 81]
There are 4 steps to joining this arena
1) Send in a new team rollup to RSI with the following pledge taped/stapled to the
rollup sheet, or transfer a ZERO FIGHT EQUIVALENT TEAM to Arena 81 and send RSI the
following form.
No-Tournament Arena (81)
* I pledge that I will not send warriors from this team to a Tournament, nor will I
use a Tournament prize on a warrior from this team.
[Sign your name here ..............................................................]
2) [Optional] post a message on the Duel 2 Forums in the Creating a No-Tournament
Arena thread
http://www.reality.com/duel2/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=2296&sid=
94ebf69603ccaf5c7dbf1b19da799732
3) [Optional] send an e-mail to DekeYoung@Comcast.NET with your team name
4) [Optional] Send a Diplomatic Note to Doc LeGrand's Lab in Arena 81 with your team
name and intent to join Arena 81 and abide by the Arena rules.
RSI will be processing overviews for this arena as soon as you send them into
RSI.
The first turn will run in January 2007. This will be a normal speed arena.
While I am encouraging everyone to use TEAM MAINTENANCE it is not mandatory.
The intent is that players that run turns will run a full team. One warrior teams
are discouraged and will a topic for the Player Committee to resolve.
I also encourage players to join the Duel2 Yahoo Group for faster updates and
feedback. http://games.groups.yahoo.com/group/duel/
