Zorpunt (probably):
Adie schooled herself to patience, not a natural reaction for her to this kind
of trap. She had known when she stepped through the doorway back in Aruak City that
there was a trap involved, and that it was aimed at her. But sometimes--this was one
of the times--it was necessary to accept the danger in order to close with the enemy.
To that point, her plan had worked. Sort of. She was here, wherever "here" was.
Probably Zorpunt. Probably near Khaldren, her enemy. She couldn't SEE him yet, but
she could hear him. Bastard! Did he expect her to tremble with fear and, she
fumbled for an image, flushing as much with anger as embarrassment, was she supposed
to throw herself upon his non-existent mercy, become his concubine or whatever, in
order to save her life?
She grabbed her temper again before it got away.
Khaldren was doing something, she could feel magic moving nearby. What was he--
? Damn. A shield closed around her, binding her ability to cast spells. It was
always a mistake to let temper cloud her reactions, she KNEW that. But sometimes she
just couldn't help it.
Did he think she would be helpless without magic? Was HE helpless without
magic? She herself... she was no gladiator, but she had been around them for a long
time, she trained them-- Okay, only the basics were "hands-on" for her, but she was
NOT a helpless potential victim. True, a woman was generally not as strong as a man,
but there were exceptions. Okay, she wasn't one of the exceptions. But it wasn't
entirely a question of brute strength, skill also made a difference, and she had
hopes that Khaldren, a man who had depended on magic for centuries, would be lacking
in that skill.
She made a complete turn to examine the walls of her prison again. Again, there
was nothing to see that she could use. So far. Maybe the flame of the candles, she
had an affinity for fire, after all. But she was careful not to look at them, lest
Khaldren be alerted. It was all she could do not to tap her foot impatiently.
Seduction, rape, whatever it was he planned, why didn't he get ON with it? She
needed to foil it and be done. She had things to do!
Aruak City:
Fandil faced the door and took a deep breath. He had faced many perils in a
long and active life, and this was probably not the worst, but it was the one he
faced now. Who would have thought he'd encounter a dangerous golem underneath Aruak
City's arena. Yes, okay, he had expected to find it here, or he wouldn't have come.
Sometimes he found himself so annoying with that little voice that came along and
corrected extravagant statements, even when they were made in the privacy of his own
mind. If that was a sign of age, he could do without it just fine, and thank you
very much!
He shook his head and reached forward, running his hand through the air an inch
short of the closed door. A definite tingle of magic, and with those uncanny lights
behind it, shining through around the edges, what else could he expect. He was
dawdling. Hesitating. Hovering here with an indecisiveness unlike his normal self.
Ah. A spell of avoidance, something of that kind. He snorted. They only worked if
you didn't realize they were present.
He screwed his determination up to the point of action and opened the door.

SPY REPORT
Greetings warriors! It is I, Zontani Sharp Eyes, here to bring report of the
clash and bustle of the weekly IAYE games. Warriors--remember that glory waits
always around the corner! Witness how this week LENPROS went 4-1-1 to move up 4 in
the rankings. PRIVATE PERNA caught the eye of many in the gladiatorial commission as
he skillfully bested LADY WOOF and was awarded 31 points in recognition. In one of
the week's more notable duels, DR TRINAIRE put down ISPEP, causing him to lose 16
points of recognition in the process. As is fitting, the most sought after warrior
on the challenge boards this week was none other than Duelmaster MOPT himself. The
city has turned out in honor of DON FRANCIS, for with his arena victory he may now
lay claim to the highest position in the city! Informants "close" to the city
champion have told me that he never fights without pantyhose on beneath his armor.
Watch out!
But come now, let us look deeper into the maze of contention and crossed blades
that is city IAYE. I saw one fighter that warriors avoided when this week's
challenge seeking began. GAMEHENDGE is feared. This much I can say. If you didn't
look down dark alleys you'd have been hard pressed to find any of LENPROS last week.
Busy avoiding GAMEHENDGE?
What warrior does not hone his years, impatiently waiting for the moment of his
foe's mortality? Perhaps even the strong cannot escape the vagaries of this world.
This week arena veteran LADY WOOF was slain, despite a 8-5-0 record. Some say a
warrior is judged by the way he bears arms. One thing is sure, better a dagger in
hand then a sword on the belt!
The girls are as pretty in IAYE as ever I remembered them....and the fighters as
ugly! Don't let your reputation slip! Sadly warriors, now longer can I keep thy
company nor savor the ale of thy fine city. Depart I must and soon! Till we meet
again, remember: a turtle walks slow, hides head in a shell, and harms no one; a
lion runs to slay its prey.-- Zontani Sharp Eyes

P.S. Does your hand-box answer? I don't see how it could, unless you've got a bunch
