On his lean and hawk-like face, the expression was intimidating. "I did not think it was a good idea to allow that gadfly from the Star an interview," he said. Senator Sedalia, not one to be intimidated, shook his head. "He struck just the right note," the Lord Protector argued. "Concern but not suspicion or alarm--yet. After all, there may be a reasonable explanation for the king's failure to act. We have given them an opening to make that explanation." He leaned back in his chair and propped his heels on footstool. Nowhere but at the Lenpro guildhouse was there a chair so perfectly suited to him, and he intended to enjoy it while he could. All too soon, he would be headed back for Andor and the Royal Palace. The rain drumming on the roof did not make that an enticing prospect. Memory of the shiftyeyed clerks and minor ministers he'd met on the last trip was also depressing. "That insolent puppy of a reporter even quoted me!" Lenpro growled. Sedalia picked up his own copy of the tabloid and scanned the short article quickly. + ]H[ + ---:--- + ]H[ The Andorian Star #101 ]H[ + ---:--- + ]H[ + Iaye: In an interview yesterday, Senator Sedalia stated that he had gone to Andor with the intention of requesting the King's aid for the coastal areas battered by the dramatic and tempestuous waves resulting from the sinking of Krael. "I and my colleagues felt that the devastation along the coast is properly a matter for the King's attention," the senator and lord protector said. "We did not go seeking a hand-out, but only a helping hand." A spokesman at the Royal Palace, who declined to identify himself when queried on Sedalia's visit, said that the matter had been "taken under advisement." No further development of this position could be obtained in Andor. Senator Sedalia's manager, Lenpro of Iaye, told this reporter that, "We will pursue this matter." Anyone with information that might be of assistance is invited to communicate with the Andorian Star office. "There is such a thing as bad publicity," the senator acknowledged, "even though some people claim otherwise. But this is not it. Concerned and firm. All cats are still in their bags." Lenpro snorted laughter. "Have you ever tried to bag a cat and keep it there? Word that we're up to something will be all over northwestern Alastari faster than horses can gallop." "I've often thought carrier pigeons should be roasted and eaten," Sedalia agreed. "Besides, those rumors will work in our favor. Anyone who even thinks they know something will be getting in touch." "Tchh!" Lenpro stood suddenly. "Are you so much of a fool, Sedalia? The Assassins' Guild has been dissolved--officially. But it has long been an arm of the King of Andoria, and I do not believe that he--or whoever is behind him--has dispensed with it now." "As a Lord Protector--" Sedalia began. "--You are subject to the whims of the Grey Witch," Lenpro finished. "There is a strong possibility that she is involved in this business. Do you think that a Lord Protector assassinated for prying into her business would be resurrected by her magicians?" Sedalia shifted uncomfortably. As a politician, conspiracy theories came naturally to him, but to involve the premier magician in Alastari with one did seem... risky. "There are powerful magicians who aren't on her payroll," he said. "Fandil of Ardivent, Lady Adeolar of Aruak City, Master Cho--plenty of them. And," now Sedalia stood, as well, "I have been involved in politics for a lifetime and survived it. I am no easy target for an assassin." Lenpro was silent for several minutes, staring past his gladiator at the rain- curtained window. Finally he sighed. "The time for caution and second thoughts has passed," he admitted. "We have already begun, and the blades will fall where they may. Be careful." * }%|[-----+O+-----]|%{ * }%|[-----+O+-----]|%{ * }%|[-----+O+-----]|%{ * ---===ANDORIAN REGIONAL NEWS===--- Duelmasters ----------- DM 8 ARKERS (turn 293): LORD BYRON of SMITHSONIAN (Curator, mgr.) It is I, Zontani Sharp Eyes, here to bring report of the clash and bustle of the weekly IAYE games. Former top team THE A'S -- LOSERS II was unseated this week as RED DOG GANG moved up from 2nd ranking to take the top spot with a 3-2-0 record for the round. My praise to LENPROS for their 4-0-0 week this time out. Indeed, it was a skillfully fought round deserving of notice! MAD CARMENCITA caught the eye of many in the gladiatorial commission as she skillfully bested OZZIE CANSECO and was awarded 22 points in recognition. In one of the week's more notable duels, PRINCE POLIOLES put down BAINES, causing him to lose 17 points of recognition in the process. Who here was not present for the title fight this week as DON FRANCIS boldly challenged KLINK in order to strive for the Duelmasters honors? The city has turned out in honor of DON FRANCIS, for with his arena victory he may now lay claim to the highest position in the city! Would you believe that over half of the old women in IAYE seem to feel that they could fight better than you gladiators? Many and various are the arts of battle. In IAYE "art" is a word that has long since passed from the language! I saw one fighter that warriors avoided when this week's challenge seeking began. RED DOG GANG is feared. This much I can say. If you didn't look down dark alleys you'd have been hard pressed to find any of LENPROS last week. Busy avoiding RED DOG GANG? Loose talk at the arena has reached my ears and it but confirms the knowledge that many fighters are after FENCE POST. Watch your back! A match that raised a few eyebrows at the games this week, it seems that PRIVATE PERNA posted a challenge against the more highly recognized FENCE POST. The results, you ask? Well, the firebrand PRIVATE PERNA overcame FENCE POST. Remember warriors, this is the discipline of steel. What warrior does not hone his years, impatiently waiting for the moment of his foe's mortality? Dark alleys may hide both secrets and assassins. In the arena there is only the brightness of steel. Keep vigil always! If it were not for my skills as a spy I would have been mugged three times already in IAYE. Nice atmosphere you have here! More than a sharp eye must I keep, indeed a stout pair of legs must I keep as well! The endless paths of Alastari await me! Till next we meet remember - the pen is mightier than the sword, but a maul is a different story!-- Zontani Sharp Eyes DUELMASTER W L K POINTS TEAM NAME DON FRANCIS 4619 13 7 0 134 LENPROS (145) CHALLENGER CHAMPIONS W L K POINTS TEAM NAME JACK STRAW 4722 16 4 1 108 THE WARLOCKS (430) PRIVATE PERNA 4690 12 10 1 102 LENPROS (145) FRANKLINS TOWER 4725 14 6 1 100 THE WARLOCKS (430) FENCE POST 4604 19 37 0 94 RED DOG GANG (356) WINDSONG 4702 14 13 1 94 RED DOG GANG (356) KLINK 4647 25 15 0 92 THE A'S -- LOSERS II (431) CHAMPIONS W L K POINTS TEAM NAME IRISH CREAM 4654 15 22 0 89 RED DOG GANG (356) WORLD CHUMPS 4726 15 5 0 88 THE A'S -- LOSERS II (431) OUT OF TIME 4681 18 16 1 71 GAMEHENDGE (299) CHALLENGER ADEPTS W L K POINTS TEAM NAME MAD CARMENCITA 4766 8 1 1 66 RED DOG GANG (356) PRINCE POLIOLES 4742 6 5 0 61 LENPROS (145) ADEPTS W L K POINTS TEAM NAME OZZIE CANSECO 4723 13 7 0 46 THE A'S -- LOSERS II (431) -BROTHER J.J. 4728 6 5 0 46 LENPROS (145) BAINES 4724 11 9 0 42 GAMEHENDGE (299) CHALLENGER INITIATES W L K POINTS TEAM NAME HELP ON THE WAY 4717 6 14 1 33 THE WARLOCKS (430) LITTLE ROCKY 4768 6 1 0 26 RED DOG GANG (356) PRINCESS KURTZ 4776 2 1 0 24 LENPROS (145) '-' denotes a warrior who did not fight this turn. Little Rocky -- I think I can; I think I can.... -- Prince Polioles Polite Beggar -- OK, that was polite. -- Princess Kurtz Private Perna -- (extremely smug look) Ha. You don't understand my kind. You think you can just hack away and I'll stand and do nothing. Ha. I am not so passive as you seem to think. -- Fence Post Prince Polioles -- You're just too tall, I can't get a proper grip. Maybe if I were a pitbull instead of just an ol' bulldog, I could do something. Ah, besides get thrown out of town as being vicious and a nuisance. Oh, well, I guess I'll just have to drool and try to look sweet. -- Little Rocky Klink -- You broke my sticks! BOTH of them. If I'd had a third one, you wouldn't have gotten off so easily, you Bad Person. -- Irish Cream Out of Time -- Your manager may have cursed you with that name. Because that's what happened to you. At least he didn't name you "out of steam." -- Windsong Help on the Way -- People keep SAYING that, and it never GETS here. Hmphf! Sorry, probably not your fault, but your name raises issues. -- Mad Carmencita Princess Kurtz -- It was in your best interest. If you'd HAD that inheritance, you would have been the target of many ill-meaning persons. -- Little Rocky LAST WEEK'S FIGHTS DON FRANCIS devastated KLINK in a 1 minute mismatched Challenge Title fight.
