Fratsfa:
Sizzling Sunflower had said that the obstacles on the way back to the true
Fratsfa, three mancats and two more ordinary men, would not be a problem and she
meant it. After all, she was a skilled gladiator, a Lady Protector, and she had just
defeated the champion of this place, the vampire. She was confident of her prowess,
and by the way they moved, she could see that her opponents were also confident--of
HER prowess.
She smiled and moved into the attack, her blade flickering in diffused light of
this place. Five opponents at once, well, she wasn't alone, either, and though
Lenpro was, from her point of view, old, she knew he was resolute and suspected that
he had considerable skill himself. They could handle this.
Her target was the group of mancats, Aruaki, probably, who had been frozen in
mid-change. She judged them to be the most dangerous, and she was, after all, the
Lady Protector. They seemed nervous, not at all eager to close with her, which
showed more intelligence than she'd expected of them. Not that it would do them any
good.
She grinned and leaped forward suddenly, right into the nearest one. There was
a bright flash, almost blinding, but she didn't need to see to recognize the feeling
of her blade driving into flesh and bone. She wrenched it free, blinking away after-
images, and pivoted toward where the next-closest had been.
He wasn't there! As her vision cleared, she saw that he was backing away, and
the other had frankly turned and run. Well, she was going to get at least ONE more!
She bared her teeth in a snarl and stalked after the one still present and on his
feet. Saw his eyes widen in true fear as he backed faster, apparently afraid to turn
his back on her. He was blinking and squinting, too, and there was something wrong
with his shadow.
"Sunflower! Let him go--the portal is clear--"
She did a little blinking of her own, shook her head but the voice didn't go
away. Remembered finally that she had a partner here, and glanced around.
Lenpro had both his men down, one was dead, she couldn't tell about the other.
He was squinting at her.
"Let that creature go," he said. "We have more important things to do. Ah, you
might sheathe your sword...."
She looked down at the blade in her hand and realized that it was hot gold,
bright as sunlight. Reluctantly, it seemed a shame to hide that glorious light, she
slid it into the scabbard. The world here seemed a lot darker after she did. Would
it still blaze with sunlight in the ordinary world? Perhaps not, but there was only
one way to find out. She squared her shoulders and faced the portal. "Let's go,"
she said.

DUELMASTER'S COLUMN
Notes from the arena champ.
Well, here I stand again with my 4th DM Title. What would I do without Help On
The Way whom I defeated each time for the crowm? (And three other times in my
career.) One more fight. Perhaps I shall have to try the DA rather than try for 8-0
against Help On The Way. Perhaps.
In my final column I thought I would tell you about me, although my official
"favorites" are not published yet. Okay? I am an unmodified, no stat learn striker
at 9-10-16-17-9-8-15. I am -1 attack, have very little endurance, and am slightly
bonused in damage-doing at great. I think my favorite weapon is the shortspear as I
went 12-48-6 (crits/swings/extra value hits) with it. With all other weapons I was
1-16-1. One can see that I have not had to swing much at all. I am proud to have
gone 17-3-0 in the arena with no tournament fights. All I have is an adex in
decisiveness and an expert in attack. Clearly I have fought with what they call
"knack."
I shall leave the throne clean and ready for the next Duelmaster. One way or
the other, it will not be me.

SPY REPORT
Greetings warriors! It is I, Zontani Sharp Eyes, here to bring report of the
clash and bustle of the weekly IAYE games. DIGGITY DOG caught the eye of many in the
gladiatorial commission as he skillfully bested MAJOR MARTIN and was awarded 31
points in recognition. In one of the week's more notable duels, DIGGITY DOG put down
MAJOR MARTIN, causing him to lose 23 points of recognition in the process. Most
watched of the fights this week, the spotlight was on HELP ON THE WAY as it bore arms
against the challenge of reigning Duelmaster BROTHER DOBBIN. Although HELP ON THE
WAY made a valiant effort, it did not suffice to topple the reign of victorious
BROTHER DOBBIN. Would you believe that over half of the old women in IAYE seem to
feel that they could fight better than you gladiators?
Many and various are the arts of battle. In IAYE "art" is a word that has long
since passed from the language! My inside sources tell me that the team to beat in
IAYE these days is ALL JACKED UP. At least, most blades in town are looking to avoid
them. Methinks more than a few here could name the guild it was that spent the
better part of last week avoiding ALL JACKED UP. Indeed it was LENPROS. Loose talk
at the arena has reached my ears and it but confirms the knowledge that many fighters
are after HELP ON THE WAY. Watch your back! A match that raised a few eyebrows at
the games this week, it seems that SENATOR WILEY posted a challenge against the more
highly recognized JACK HAMMER. The results, you ask? Well, the firebrand SENATOR
WILEY bested JACK HAMMER. Remember warriors, this is the discipline of steel.
Is not Death a warrior's foremost adviser? Warriors, may this counselor stand
ready at your right hand forever! Some say a warrior is judged by the way he bears
arms. One thing is sure, better a dagger in hand then a sword on the belt!
The girls are as pretty in IAYE as ever I remembered them....and the fighters as
ugly! Don't let your reputation slip! Sadly warriors, now longer can I keep thy
company nor savor the ale of thy fine city. Depart I must and soon! Till we meet
