Scagnetti on Scagnetti

Like Mickey and Malorie Knox, I'm a Natural Born Killer! Well, well, well, I
see ol' LenPro can use his pen for something other than filling out strategy sheets.
Now, if we can just get him to stop filling out the avoids so much.... Yeah, right!
Jorja, a 4-1-0 turn. I would salute you, but poor ol' Polite Beggar would be cross.
Hell, if you can't beat his sorry drunk arse... I guess that's one way to get a
winning turn finally. I gave him some money so now he's a happy peasant! And
speaking of arena guys, Bukka White couldn't beat Virginal Concubine, no wonder he
didn't want to bloodfeud Pepper Jack. All right, Lenpro, here's how it's done:

Get off the couch and awake from your nap,
It's not my fault you're old as crap!
Be careful while you're bowlin',
For your prostate must be swollen,
And in a wheelchair you'll be rollin'.
Your youth has been stolen,
With age comes wisdom, and yeah, you're surely wise,
Before it's all over one of the Paces is going to kill White Thighs
If only she'd run on a regular basis,
Her Best Assets is scared of the Paces,
So back to good 'ol Lenpro, sporting his depends,
Archbishop Arndt can't say enough "Amens,"
Pray and pray and reflect your sins
You think this is over, but really it only begins....

                                      SPY REPORT

Greetings, warriors of IAYE! Once again I've been called out of retirement for
my abilities and insights into Spyreporting. Woof! ALL JACKED UP were a bunch of
dogs after RED DOG GANG got through with 'em! 2nd ain't so sweet as 1st! What's
with LUMBER JACK? It actually beat PACE'S WILD's CHEVY PACE, and walked away with 21
more points from the fight. Laughs were big at ALL JACKED UP while they watched
LUMBER JACK clobber CHEVY PACE. It lost 17 points and got bruised from objects
thrown from the stands. BUKKA WHITE was reminded on the sands why LOST IN PACE is
Duelmaster. Wouldn't it be nice to have live subjects to practice on? I hear some
team is looking into the uses of convicted prisoners.
If at first you don't succeed, avoid. That'll get you in the Spyreports. What
do people see in ONE EYED JACK? Its 4-8-1? ALL JACKED UP ain't talkin', but it's
got 27 points.
Warriors of IAYE unite. You have only your games to lose! Let's see... Uh,
looks like LENPROS has one week left to revenge DOCTOR DERSCH's death. But LOST IN
PACE tells me it's not losing any sleep. Here's some advice: study your opponent,
master many skills, fight dirty.
Many other cities have retirement homes for aged warriors. Any plans here?
IAYE is a nice place to live, but I don't like to live in nice places. Remember--a
good fighter needs both good skills and good luck. Until next time,-- Olaf Modeen

Kudos to Lost In Pace who outvoted Senator Smith for the Title. -- Lenpro

Out on "V" for a round. See you after THE FACE. -- Lenpro and The Lenpros

Lenpro -- Nice poetry and prose from a guy named Lenpros. -- Pacemaker

Pat Sajak -- I must have really bad handwriting, because they keep misspelling my
words. It's not "sphiny," it's "sphinx." -- Pacemaker

Well, we have a really busy typist in the office. If you could email your
personals, then she could shift the misinterpretation to me. -- the Editor

Lenpro -- Thanks for the congrats. -- Johnny arson, I...I... mean Pacemaker

Pat -- There is a brand new litter of pups coming up in the ranks. -- Pacemaker

Muley -- That first win was too easy. -- Pacemask
P.S. Please excuse my loincloth--it does flip precariously in the wind.

Pacemask -- You're as bad as a muzzle. -- Speckle

Bo Carter -- But I was barking in time to your song! -- Midnight Barker
P.S. Okay, I was a little off key, but hey, that's just, um, character, right? It
adds character.

That Beggar tried to take MY bone! -- Rupert Mutt

And THEN, he went after MINE. I thought people didn't like bones. -- Muley

This Polite Beggar human is insane. We should all bite him, because he's WRONG. --

clerk, Algernon, looked at it uneasily. Whenever this many people came together to
petition for something, it meant trouble. For him, anyway. Records to be altered.
Altering records was Bad. It made Extra Work.
His assistant clerk leaned close and whispered, "If it weren't for gladiators, we
wouldn't have jobs. Smile at them and ask what they want."
Algernon closed his eyes briefly. Looking at this crowd made him dizzy. They
were all wearing black and white stripes. Like a herd of zebras, except that zebras
didn't carry swords. Then he took a deep breath and managed a smile. "What... ah,
what can I do for you?"
"We want new names," the first gladiator said. There was a number on the front
of his shirt: 0381. He thumped the number with his thumb. "This here isn't a
"We want REAL names!" That voice came from farther back in the crowd.
"Yeah! We've paid our dues," another shouted, "and we've EARNED real names!"
One from the very back yelled, "I want to be called Tom."
All the others turned to look at him.
Algernon couldn't see him, but apparently those looks were accusing. Well, he
could understand that, "Tom" was such a... common name.
"My mom called me Tom," the voice in the back protested. "It's a good name."
"It isn't the name you put on the petition," 0381 said. "We talked about this.
We got our manager's agreement. You get the name on the petition."
Algernon didn't really want to keep staring at all these stripes while they
argued. He picked up the petition. "These names are the ones you want?"
     0381 turned back. "Yes."
"It's a lot of trouble, and when other people see that YOU are getting name
changes, THEY are going to want them--" Seeing the gladiators beginning to frown...
and finger their weapons, he went on quickly, "So I figure we might as well make it a
complete deal. A Name-Change-O-Rama. Everyone who wants a name change can petition
for it. Get it all over with at once." He glanced at the petition, shuddered
slightly, and passed it to his clerk. "We'll announce it, proclaim it, even, and you
will get the names on this petition. And others will get the names THEY think they
should have had, too." He paused. "And I think I'll get a new name, I'm tired of
being an Algernon...."

                              "DARK ARENA" -- The Novel

For centuries, the Shagornan Elves have been forced to live underground.
Human invaders, the Delarquans, burned their forests, sparking a war of elven
annihilation. The elders told tales that when the Delarquans marched to war
against the elves, the land itself bled as they passed. Since the war, the
elves have dwindled with every passing year, while the humans multiply like
rodents across the land of Alastari.

Now, the Delarquans have disappeared. Some say they departed, others indicate
it.s a ruse, but there have been whispered rumors of another greater threat
looming in the region. Khyron of the Shagornan Elves has been tasked to
determine the cause, realizing that failure is probable and at the end of the
road death could be the only reward.

Khyron has known only the safety of the caves, but now he must journey to the
world above...the World with No Ceiling.

Throughout the years, many fine writers have played Duelmasters/Duel II and have
contributed greatly to the history and background of the world of Alastari. One very
intense period, during the early '90's, was during the Rocanis War, when authors from
both the Delarquan and Free Blades arenas collaborated on writing the history of the
invasion of the arena-city of Rocanis. Mark Manley (aka Grimwood) is a long-time
manager in Rocanis, and was one of the writers who contributed so much to this
history. Over the subsequent years, he has worked to bring his novelization to life
and make the story of the War and the preceding events which led to it available to
the greater public. Many Rocanis legends appear in the book: Itoz Trollbane,
Sandstorm, and others. The novel is a treat to read--even more so if you are familiar
with the game!
