It was dark on this dangerous side of Chimlevtal. Utu, a large, burly Sumerian from the realm of Polaris let out a loud belch. "Aeon's ale is toxic." he growled in his accented tongue. "Just so." replied Draco. The trio moved into the street and towards even darker and more dangerous ground. They showed no concern. Utu walked with an easy gait for a man his size. He carried a war hammer at his side. To his right was Draco. The Greek Polarian bristled with weapons. Both were from the storied guild, The Stormguards, managed by The Icelord. With them was Hamish. The redheaded giant hailed from The Stormbringers stable, managed by the legendary High Lord Bosk. He carried a great axe on his back. All wore light silver capes that were trimmed in gold. That and their brooches clearly showed they belonged to The Council of Lords. Thieves and rogues scattered at their approach. Some time later they arrived outside a run down alehouse that made The Golden Dagger Inn seem more than respectable. The rank dive was known at "Rovon's Deep." Several men lurked in the darkness across the street. Hamish spat in their direction. A "drunk" sat off to the side of the front door. "Don't be there when we come out." whispered Draco. The trio opened the door and entered the putrid inn. They ignored the stench and walked straight to the bar. The silence was deafening. For a full minute all attention was on them as two dozen cutthroats and numerous bar wenches stared at them. The dive was not well lit but their cloaks and brooches were like starlight in Rovon's Deep. The rat-faced bar keep had sweat upon his brow and stuttered, "We don't need a bloody mess, m'lords. Perhaps you've come into the wrong place?" His eyes darted from the Lord Protectors to the now grumbling clientele. A few figures headed out the back door. "Nope." grunted Utu. "This is the dump we're looking for." He let out another belch and looked toward his partners. "You know, Prince Kinnishan should really close this fire hazard down." He gazed at the murmuring crowd. "The warehouses went up and they were well built and protected. This place is a danger." The wretch behind the bar began a whining plea of some sort when a large rogue who had gathered his courage walked toward them with four fellows in tow. He stood nearly as tall as Hamish. He had a black patch over his left eye and a mangled face. His breath and body stank worse than an Orc's armpit. His right hand fingered a dagger and his eye showed that he was under the influence of more than ale. "Yuzzun don't belong here, goody two--" he began. The Lord Protectors reacted as one. Utu seized the wretch by his neck and jerked him off his feet, swung him around and slammed his chest up on the bar. Hamish grabbed two of his cohorts and cracked their skulls together, dropping them easily. Draco had his short sword drawn and leveled at the other two rogues. He looked bored as he waved his left index finger at them as one would a child to tell them "no-no." Utu kept his beefy hand upon one-eye's throat and leaned close, ignoring the stench. "You fancy yourself tough?" he whispered. "Now tell me, why would you be dumb enough to attempt to bully us?" He relaxed his grip slightly. The rattled ruffian gasped, "No wonna does that to me or me boys. Yuzzun gonna pay Stormguard. Wessa in control here." "Wrong answer." grated Utu as he brought down his fist and broke the man's nose. The ruffian yelped and groaned while several in the crowd cursed. A beer bottle flew toward them and Hamish deflected it with his left forearm and launched a dagger at the one who threw it. He then drew his great axe and bellowed "Back off, lads!" The crowd took a few steps back. Utu whispered to his groaning captive, "We are beyond your control." He hoisted the man up and onto his feet and kept him there with an iron-grip upon his neck. "We'll be leaving now." The crowd hesitated and murmured. Draco, with a flourish, announced "No need to be concerned, good citizens. Council business. Go about your good deeds and a good evening to you." With that the Lord Protectors and their newfound "friend" departed. * }%|[-----+O+-----]|%{ * }%|[-----+O+-----]|%{ * }%|[-----+O+-----]|%{ * Creation, Pt. 2 ...With that said, the God took up Gerronatt's dagger. The fine, Elvish blade gleamed as the God pulled it across his forearm. The skin quickly parted and rich, dark crimson blood flowed freely. The blood, which radiated power and purity, dripped down upon the dragon spawn. With the first drop, a change began to take place. A dazzling display of colors engulfed the spawn and when finally they dissipated, what remained was a small, male, human child. The infant's cries filled the chamber as the God turned to Gerronatt with these words: "Now, Gerronatt Quaaateen, this child whom is marked by the Gods, is now placed in your custody, and your kin's. It shall be your people's duty to raise and protect this child until maturity. If any ill-fate befalls this child before that time, then, you, too, can and will find a fate one thousand times as ill. Now hear this! To all whom question, it shall be told. This child is Godsent. He is a King of Kings and his blood runs with both the Heavens and the Hells and all in between. He shall be called "King Diamond." Now be gone on your way and fare ye well." Still numb with shock and awe, Gerronatt wrapped the child in silk and began his journey homeward.... Raised and educated the very best by elves, I became the man I am today. I do know that the Gods have a mighty deed planned for my undertaking, yet I know not what or when. For now I shall wait and listen for my call. These days I journey city to city, arena to arena. Helping where I can. South Park is my current project, and I shall lead this team to victory. Let there be no doubt of that. The only question that remains is, what side of my blade shall you fall on?? King Diamond + ]H[ + ---:--- + ]H[ Chimlevtal #5 ]H[ + ---:--- + ]H[ + Chimlevtal: Tyre followed the man in the hooded cloak through a network of alleys that led away from the waterfront without becoming cleaner or safer. Not that he was worried, anyone trying to mug him in one of these dirty little alleys was asking for trouble. But where were they going? He'd thought he knew all the shady districts in the city, but these alleys were unfamiliar. More than unfamiliar, the district set his teeth on edge for no reason that he could put a name to. The hooded man didn't seem disturbed, though, and he never hesitated at a turning. Perhaps, Tyre thought hopefully, it was just his imagination that things seemed so strange. He studiously ignored his master's frequent comment that he had no imagination. He must, if he thought.... Something that might have been a dragon, except that it walked upright and was no bigger than a Shew, came stamping down the alley toward him. It had a tail but no wings, wore only a sort of harness that went over one shoulder and around the middle of the body--it didn't really HAVE a waist--and supported three pouches and a sword. Its jaws, while doubtless capable of inflicting a painful wound, were neither so big nor so desperately fanged as he would have expected, and while its toes were impressively clawed, he'd seen nails on human women as formidable as those on its forelimbs. Faint trails of steam came from the nostrils on its modest snout. There was not enough width in this particular alley for the two of them to pass. Tyre wondered briefly what the hooded man had done to avoid this damned creature, turned down some cross-alley, no doubt. The dragon seemed to notice Tyre suddenly when they were a mere ten feet apart. Spines bristled upward on the back of its head, and a sort of fleshy pouch beneath its jaw turned red. "Get out of my way!" it snarled in a heavily accented version of Isle cant (the language born of the interaction of Fratsfan, Kannish, and Tathanit and spoken by gladiators on the Isle of the Eye). Under normal circumstances, Tyre would have done just that and been glad to do it. But it had been a long hard night fighting the fires on Chimlevtal's waterfront, especially since he hadn't seen any reason to do that. Well, okay, Master Darque had told him to. But still. And then this hunt through strange alleys. The probability that he was losing the man he was following. Tyre wasn't feeling reasonable right now. He snarled back. "I'm using this alley. Go walk somewhere else, lizard breath." The dragon reared back, hissing at the sky. Finally it looked down at him. "For a gopher, you have the courage of a true warrior! I like that! Come with me to the Burning Mountain and we will drink a toast." "I don't have time to drink any toasts," Tyre growled, annoyed. "I'm trying to follow a man--" "The monkey in the hood who past me a moment since?" More hissing, which the Dwarf realized must be laughter. "He had no courage. I stepped on him." Tyre cursed. "Is he dead?" "Possibly. What difference does it make? He is not worth consideration." "He might be worth questioning, though." Tyre took a step forward. "Does he know interesting things? Treasure, can he lead to treasure, gold, jewels?" Dragons, Tyre reminded himself, were usually interested in treasure. Maybe he could enlist this creature's help. Or at least distract him long enough for he himself to get the job done. "Possibly," the Dwarf said. "He was certainly flashing enough gold when I saw him first." "Then I'll help you, but for two thirds of the gold--I was the one who stopped him getting away, after all." The dragon turned carefully, his tail scraping one wall of the narrow alley in the process. "You can call me Fireblade." On the road to Zarens: The bard Master Janos and the warrior William Wallace approached Zarens from the land side. They had meant to sail, as it was faster, but there'd been an odd look to the sea. None of the ship captains they had approached had been inclined to go out on that strangely metallic-looking surface for anything but the direst of emergencies, and neither man felt like forcing the issue. They weren't even sure the matter was urgent, much less a dire emergency. So they had taken to horse and ridden out along the coastal road. After five miles of silence, William Wallace said, "There hasn't been any great storm lately that I didn't notice, has there?" Janos raised an eyebrow. "If there had been a great storm, you would have noticed, my friend." Wallace nodded and gestured toward the beach. Although screened from the road by dunes in some areas, for most of the distance they'd come it had been visible, as it was now. It was littered with driftwood, most of which was piled in a natural wall about twenty feet from the water's edge. "There was not so much wrack on the beach any other time I passed along here," the warrior said, "and it would take a great storm to bring in timbers of that size." Janos stiffened. That was true. His gaze swept the visible shoreline quickly. He indicated the largest heap of wreckage with a tip of his chin. "That looks like it might be the whole bow of a ship. Perhaps we can find clues there to explain its presence." Wallace grinned and reined his horse around. "Perhaps we can," he agreed. Monuntial: The Prince of Ar flattened himself against the side of a building, watching the soldiers run past on the street. There had been an explosion, and now a growing crowd roar, from the great oval structure that housed Monuntial's arena. It had been built for chariot races, and those still went on even though the gladiatorial contests had stopped. But there had been rumors of spectacles involving the gruesome deaths of 'traitors'--by which he assumed the current rulers of the city meant rebels against the regime of the Eastern mage Nishtar. That had been the subject of Ar's current researches. The free cities of this part of Alastari were at risk so long as Nishtar ruled unchecked. If there were rebels, they should be saved and aided.... But he could not talk to, or fight, a mob such as he heard now. He began to slide slowly and silently away from the street down the narrow passage between the walls of two mansions. Both were deserted, so far as he could tell, which meant he had only to fear discovery from the street. Until someone dropped into the passage behind him, landing as lightly as a cat. He risked a glance over his shoulder. Someone tall, lean, and garbed in black except for a bared sword, anonymous and deadly. "Keep your hands in plain sight," the figure said, its voice muffled and unidentifiable. "Work your way farther down this alley until you come to a door on the left. Go in there." "Why?" "For privacy. We need to talk--you have been making a nuisance of yourself with your prying." "Talk?" Ar asked skeptically. "You think that will stop me?" "We'll find out, won't we? Move now." >)]H[(< + -----:----- + >)] The Free Cities #66 [(< + -----:----- + >)]H[(< Ibizond, Korga, and in between: Fist of Kjarran strode briskly along the road that ran east from Ibizond. It would eventually reach Malcorn and then Zuwayza, but that was several days away even if nothing came of this effort to catch the killer. What kind of man, he wondered would haunt a lonely stretch of road and kill only single travelers after dark? A coward, for one thing. But it might be useful to consider the other factors; after all, the ambush ahead that was supposed to catch the killer might fail. He could end up fighting alone. His hand caressed the hilt of his sword. And he'd do very well by himself, if he had to. The Murskan, Cadal, believed the killer was a non-human monster of some sort, perhaps a demon. It would be a feather in his cap to kill a demon.... But he had to remember that he wasn't out here for glory, even when the glory would honor mighty Kjarran, and his daughter Jayde, too, of course. He was here to rid the area of a killer. He peered sharply into the trees on either side of the road. Though the sun had not yet vanished behind the western hills, the woods were already filled with shadow. Anything could be hiding there. In fact, Aghtamar, Zilla, and Cadal were hiding there, somewhere a little farther ahead. No human would detect them, Fist believed. Cadal might be a semi- barbarian, as all the Murskans were, and a second-rate gladiator (for a Lord Protector), but he knew what he was doing in the woods. Fist sighed and shook his head. What the Murskans should be doing in the woods was cutting down the trees and planting beans. Oh, well. Doubtless that would come in time, as they absorbed civilization from their more enlightened neighbor, the Glorious Empire. Meanwhile, there was the killer. The sun was balanced on the rim of the hills, and the shadows were stretching out of the forest and across the road. It was time for the killer to appear. As though his thought had conjured the sound, he heard hoofs on the road ahead of him. No one had mentioned the killer being mounted. Could this be a chance victim? Some unfortunate traveler from the east who didn't know the risk he was taking? The rider was still out of sight, as the road ahead curving and slanting into a valley dark with trees. That valley would be a good place for the killer to set his ambush.... Or for Cadal to set his! Fist had a sudden vision of the killer and the gladiators facing each other across the road, waiting for a victim to walk into their trap. He resisted the urge to laugh; after all, it could be true! He also resisted the urge to break into a run, which would tire out him right when he might be needing his full strength. Somewhere ahead, but farther away than the horseman, a hound bayed, answered by two more. At least, Fist of Kjarran was fairly sure they were hounds, and not wolves. But it was enough to make anyone's blood run cold, and that alone might have scared a timid traveler to death. And who would be hunting with hounds along this road at night? Fist wasn't a country boy, but something seemed out of step in this. Maybe the killer used the hounds to terrify his victims? In any case, the horsemen in the valley was in danger. Fist paused to listen. He had lost track of the hoofbeats when he'd heard the baying, but now he picked them up again. They were faster-paced, but...they didn't seem to be getting any closer. He shuddered in sympathy for the rider as he hurried ahead. It must be like one of those nightmares where you run and run and can't escape. Darkness filled the little valley like a pool of water. Fist had the unreasonable feeling that he should hold his breath as he descended. There was a thin wail from below, then shouts and the clangor of swords. He broke into a trot. Some other traveler must have drawn the killer and sprung the ambush before he got there! At the bottom of the valley, the road crossed a stream. The woods were broken there so that some moonlight came down onto the bridge and the struggle going on there. Swords flickered in reflected moonlight, and shadows surged back and forth. Fist drew his sword. One shadow detached itself from the struggle. It was silhouetted briefly against the white foam of the stream: a gigantic hound, black as hate except for crimson ears and eyes that burned like fire. It bayed as it raced along the road toward Fist of Kjarran. Fist shuddered. You didn't have to be timid for that sound and sight to freeze your blood! But he was a gladiator, a Lord Protector, a faithful follower of Kjarran and Jayde. No dog was going to intimidate him. He steadied his sword to receive the charge. >)]H[(< + -----:----- + >)] The Free Cities #67 [(< + -----:----- + >)]H[(< Near Zukal: After the thing--shadow, demon, whatever it was--left, Ghenis sat and stared into the night for a long time. He kept the fire up, even though he didn't need it for heat; fire might be a defense, and the thing might come back. He stayed awake just in case that happened; this wouldn't be the first night he'd gone without sleep. Better to be tired in the morning than dead. And he had some serious thinking to do. He glanced around his campsite quickly. The horse was calm enough now, no need to worry about it running off. Besides, it would have to get past him to get out of the enclosure formed by the broken walls. Veleks was asleep, or unconscious, and just as well. The little thief was a useful tool, but not for thinking. What was this thing that he'd seen, that had driven Veleks, who feared water, to risk drowning rather than be caught? He'd been thinking of it as a sort of demon, but what sort? His defenses here would stop natural predators such as wolves, but not demons; for that, he should have needed something magical. Could his amulet have been protection enough? He didn't think so, especially since he hadn't called on the power behind it. So was this... thing some kind of natural predator? And if so, where had it come from? Why had it appeared now when there was no indication of such a creature prowling the area in the past? And what would it DO to its victims besides drive them into a frenzy of terror? Was that all it wanted, or would it have killed Veleks if it had caught him? And most important of all, what use could he and his masters make of this new thing? Come morning, and even the gray and rainy light was welcome, though. Ghenis wanted to get back to Zukal as quickly as possible. With Veleks riding double with him on his one horse, that wasn't as quickly as he hoped for. He thought of leaving his henchman at one of the smaller towns outside the city--his cult had contacts in several of them, and there were hangouts for thieves in general where the man would have been accepted if not welcomed. But Veleks wouldn't have it. He would stay with his leader who had rescued him from the monster, and not in some flimsy village inn. Suggestions that they part company always resulted in the little thief bursting into tears, which was damned embarrassing. Veleks was being a nuisance, so much so that Ghenis found himself wishing the little thief had died yesterday. The man's nerve had been broken, and Ghenis was beginning to wonder whether the break might be permanent. That would spell trouble for all involved. There was no place for a broken man among the servants of the dark cult. The obvious thing would be to kill the wretch. But the gladiator found it hard to follow through on that while Veleks was looking at him so gratefully. It would be like kicking a puppy, and while he was prepared, in theory, to kick puppies if that's what needed doing, it wasn't an easy thing to contemplate in cold blood. Perhaps he could send Veleks somewhere far away, to some place where the little thief could be sure of never meeting one of the monsters again. Hmm, if water provided safety, perhaps he could send Veleks along with a mission to Niatoli Island that was in preparation. Yes, Niatoli Island would be the place for Veleks now. He'd see about getting the thief onto the next ship headed that way. Near Malcorn: Blackie, Lord Malcorn of Malcorn, stood next to the ancient stone and waited for the moon to rise. It would be full tonight, and he knew, because he knew most of the natural world around Malcorn, that when it reached a certain height above the horizon, it would shine through the hole in a more distant rock and strike squarely onto the face of the rock beside him, revealing carvings that had been old when the first Lord Malcorn came to this land. The records of his ancestors said that the Dregur were accustomed to gathering here when the moon was just so. "I must be insane," Tiljanz muttered behind him. "Courage and a sense of responsibility often looks like madness," Blackie agreed, "even to the people exhibiting it. You didn't have to come here tonight, but you felt it was the right thing to do. I can respect that in a man. A lot." "Will it do any good?" the young Karnhorn asked curiously. "We've turned the Dregur loose, and I'd think it hard if not impossible to rein them back in." "We turned them loose under terms," Blackie said. His voice hardened, becoming the voice of the Lord of Malcorn. "They have not kept those terms. They were to attack only those who came here following Inzolas. That a few innocents might get caught in that net by accident was... almost inevitable. But some of the Dregur have been actively hunting those not indicated by the terms of their release." He was silent for a long moment, then shrugged. "I'm not certain that we can put an end to these... excesses. But I am very certain that if we don't protest, the situation will become worse. A failure to protest will be seen as an admission of weakness." Tiljanz shrugged. It sounded like politics as usual, or at least, the politics of those he dealt with, the lesser lords within the Glorious Empire. Vicious infighting was the order of the day in those circles. "I trust your judgment in this, as I must, of course." He glanced at the sky uneasily. "And I should think we don't have much longer to wait...." "No." Blackie watched the moonlight appear in the eye of the distant stone and slant across the clearing, creeping along the face of the stone beside him. It wouldn't be long now. The finger of light slid across the surface and touched the worn carvings, which leaped into sudden clarity. The little clearing, which had been empty except for the two of them, was suddenly full of shadows. Or something. Tiljanz could feel the weight of a dozen minds thinking about him--calculating minds, hostile minds, hungry ones. He held himself still and quiet with difficulty. This was Lord Malcorn's meeting; he himself was just present as a witness. Words came out of the darkness, hollow as caves, clear as trumpets. "Why are you here, Malcorn?" And let's see, PANTOMIME fought MACIOBELLY and gained 30 points and contributed to DARKNESS FALLS' 1-1-0. MACIOBELLY has lost to PANTOMIME, falling 39 points, while helping make UNFIT TO BE ORCS a 2-1-0 turn. PHOENICIA TV challenged for the Duelmastership this turn, attempting to dethrone THE NIGHTHAWKS' warrior. We should ask PHOENICIA about the thrill of victory, and what being the new Duelmaster does for a warrior, she's now the one to ask. By the way, was that our Duelmaster that I saw last night, cramped under the table at The Mourngrym Inn and Tavern? Oriental wise man once say, 'Hiding behind shields prevents proper sun tanning.' Inscrutable, but true. THE CANUCKS has cause to stand tall, as they were CHIMLEVTAL's most avoided team. A smart manager knows this is a team to beat. And guess who avoided THE CANUCKS stable the most? Believe it or not, it was THE STORMBRINGERS. Anyone surprised? Well, sports fans, take notice that GAZA from DARQUE FORCES was CHIMLEVTAL's most challenged warrior this turn. Well now, what do you expect when someone like ODYSSEUS from OVERLORDS challenges down 36 points to fight SIR PELLEAS of WILLBENDERS? It pains me to see warriors take advantage of the system like this. ODYSSEUS won victory over SIR PELLEAS, as if it surprises anyone. In a brave attempt, STAN from SOUTH PARK challenged up 23 points to fight BRILLIANT ORANGE from the UNFIT TO BE ORCS stable. STAN perhaps got his just desserts, seeing as he lost to BRILLIANT ORANGE and ended up with 9 recognition points. ZARENDARGAR of OVERLORDS had better have a good reason for challenging down 14 points in a challenge which he won. I thought ZARENDARGAR showed great skill and promise when he defeated GAZA. All right, so I slept through it! Big deal! The Dark Arena is for those who cannot win, not who cannot lose with grace. Dignity in life or death is the warrior's creed. The manager of SOUTH PARK will not be pleased to learn that BUTTERS, a 3-0-0 fighter, has been killed at the hands of ASSASSIN NATION's MALICE. We'd like to remind certain teams not to rob the graves of their enemies. You know who you are; and it's considered rude. I like this place, CHIMLEVTAL, the taverns have old wine, and young serving girls. Who could ask for more? Always good to rest in CHIMLEVTAL, but never good to wear out my welcome. Look for me in future turns. If so, then you understand we are a member of The Council of Lords and you can expect a BF. -- Stormwatch The Icelord -- He challenged and killed your warrior first. DC him all you want. -- Polar Bear & Stormwatch High Lord Bosk -- Now, now! -- Polar Bear & Stormwatch Chimlevtal -- Ouch! General Motors and Captain Kangaroo both suffer permanent demotions within a 2 week span. Time to recruit. -- Military Mayhem Alt -- At least if you are going to beat up on the youngsters, you could teach us a little more. -- General Electric Idi A Mean -- Be careful not to bite off more than you can chew, and from what I can see, you can chew quite a bit. -- Psych Major Firehawk -- I hope you feel avenged. Thanks for the great replacement. No bloodfeud forthcoming. -- Abraxis Ghab -- SILENCE! Not another word.... -- High Lord Bosk The Icelord -- As always, we stand at your side. We Polarians are united against those of the VC! Omne jus stat in armis, est sularis oth mithas and nemo impune lacassite!!! -- The Stormbringers, Council of Lords Master Janos -- You are indeed the greatest bard to walk the lands in the past 2 millenium! -- High Lord Bosk Bosk -- I'm sorry...were you somehow involved in my discussion with Icelord? In response to your "ingenious" remarks in last turn's newsletter, looking like is one thing, acting like (as you are with your comments) is quite another! Whelp? I don't think so! -- Ghab/Assassin Nation Bosk -- As much as you might like to think otherwise, everyone is entitled to their own opinions. -- Ghab/Assassin Nation Phoenicia -- While I cannot say I'm ecstatic, at least Sarcophagus was not a warrior with the stats to make him a TC or something. I may attempt to get him back this October, even though. I will not bloodfeud, simply due to the fact that I don't think there is anyone qualified to do so on my team. -- Ghab/Assassin Nation Odysseus -- A pathetic attempt to kill me, with a 117 PP/ 34+ FE downchallenge. What's the matter, doesn't your manager think there is anyone else on your team that can get the job done? I'll be sitting out, to avoid that kind of bloodfeud, for at least this turn. Maybe I'll let you try the 6 FE downchallenge next turn. -- One Hit Wonder Raptor -- What a difference a stat raise can sometimes make. You were the first one to experience me with much better coordination. Now my other stats can finally be utilized to their full potential. -- Malice Canary Hammer -- *Gasp* *Wheeze* Pant* Next time I'll try to remember the can opener.... -- Perforate Poll Pott -- Nice comeback. I thought I had you! -- Tempest RUGs -- What is going on with the rollups I've been receiving lately? Seems I'm running more of a science lab than a team! -- Ghab/Assassin Nation Jorja -- It was more expensive than I expected! Everything was great however. Thanks! -- Ghab/Assassin Nation Krac D' Chevaliers -- You just plain kicked my ass! I have no place in the Challenger Champs without some master ratings. -- Pekko Laphroaig -- That's the way to hang in there and see it through to victory. -- Inmar Sydney Bristow -- Another strong effort on your part; I was close to going down. You have shown that you have the sand to go after an opponent that is more highly ranked, and with more arena experience than you. -- Spatha Starburst -- You fought well. Only my extra experience tipped the scales in my favor. Heimdahl -- You nearly had me when I dropped my weapon; it was my good fortune that I was able to quickly pull my backup and finish the fight. -- Mani Magog -- You sure did put up a good fight! I was lucky to get to squeeze in that chest shot. Until we meet again, don't eat yellow snow! (I tried it once and it wasn't what I hoped....) Yuck! -- Butters Jeri Ryan -- Now that was quick and to the point. Wow! -- Stan (LR-4743) Jak -- You taught well. Just what I needed. Fine battle. -- Kenny Les Nayle -- Bad les Nayle! That's my pot pie! You will respect my authority! Besides, the skills didn't help at all! So screw that, I'm going home! -- Cartman Zarliff The lich -- You really did put up a hard fight. Oh, and how you worked up the sweat to distract me, very nice. I do apologize for Mr. Hat. He sometimes gets excited by sweaty flesh. I'm sure it was an accident, him squeezing your buns like that, all thirty-some times. Anyhow, nice butt, I mean fight. XOXOXO -- Mr. Garrison High Lord Bosk and Polar Bear -- Here is news of GREAT IMPORTANCE!!! Ian Anderson and Martin Baare (both of Jethro Tull, of course) have just released their solo albums. This is glorious news indeed! Hussah! -- The Icelord High Lord Bosk -- My sword-brother, I have no time for personals this cycle. Have been most busy. (The Bad Co/Kansas concert was fun and the vacation to the Ozarks was hussah.) I will address various issues next month including those who have whined these past few months. Tal. -- The Icelord Abraxis -- Whether it's an ally or an enemy, I can't let the death of one of my warriors go unpunished; we are the Vendetta Cartel, after all. I await your bloodfeud. -- Firehawk Vili -- Well done. Didn't think I would quit so easily. Must have been your breath. -- Kirken Tuornin Abyssinian -- Any time you want a taste of my axe.... -- Tobias Hawkwind Swayne -- You need a little more staying power. -- Calleight Bosk -- Sure, because we wouldn't want to tread on council territory. -- Firehawk Valkyrie -- The life of a gladiator...the great questions of a gladiator's life: why do we keep doing this? -- Jo Ludan Brilliant Orange -- That was quite blinding. And it clashed horribly with your turquoise surcoat. -- Norgen Pelh P.S. Very educational, my thanks for that. Cartman -- Actually, I don't have a clue how to handle that weapon. But you don't seem to need advice, so it's okay, right? -- Les Nayle the Totally Clueless Deathwing -- Well...you didn't kill me. That's something. -- Kambard Murh Lagavulin -- In the tradition of unfair accusations, my teammates blame ME for our oh-fer turn, simply because my fight was last. But they contributed to it, too. -- Mendal Omshil 31 -- Children of Llyr in Murska has no competition except the Bears, and even a bear can't be everywhere. Anyone could do "well" in such a small and lifeless arena. But thanks for the compliment, even if it is undeserved. -- Jorja 7 of 9 -- Let 'em talk! -- Rondol Quiglo P.S. No, wait! I'm not on Middle Way 7! I'm on some other Middle Way! What are we doing talking to each other here? Master Darque -- Need a head count on who is Cartel. Send a diplo to me via arenas 73, 18, 31. Any fight info will be used for the best. Glad to finally be a member of the Cartel. -- Goat P.S. Come to Talcama for the Battle Royale. South Park -- There is no excuse for your team's actions. You should team up with Dorothy and the Cowardly Lion and head for the nearest courage bar. Queen Cubic Zirconia, you are a woman trapped in a body of a soulless, heartless, koolaid in your veins, Andorian. We, the warriors of Coup D'Tat, will bury you on the field of sorrow. -- Coup D'Tat All -- We are Coup D'Tat. I am Julius C., leader for this band of uneducated Ditch Diggers. We fight to fight. We are Delarquan. Expect the weak to die. Be prepared for Goat's wrath. -- Coup D'Tat Aryan Barbarian -- Why do you always get to have all the fun? Where did you get all them skills? The skills taught by you will last for a lifetime. Our woodpile, oh, is that your team name, would (wood) like to also congratulate on your victory. Send me a diplo if you feel you're headed to Advanced Duelmasters any time soon. As for the other want to be warriors on your team, send them a packing to the Dark Arena. Worth is like courage--if you don't have any, why waste the good air around those that do? Always remember a high wit is always best, a dim wit will always choose to lay down and fake like he is not supposed to be there in the arena. Well Aryan Barbarian, my squad Coup D'Tat will be seeing if you're up to our level. -- Coup D'Tat P.S. I have 2 Hyborian Wars going. I have Argos (751), also Pictland which has not started yet. Egil -- We're all wondering how you've been since you missed your last turn. Maybe a diplo to clear it up. -- 31 K.D. -- What happened to you? Thought you'd have brought the M5 to the arena instead of Ale L. Let me know next time. -- 31 Scarecrow -- Way to take punishment. You should do well here. -- T'Pol Spatha -- I'm about out of options here. If you can get up to the Arepos I'll give V.G. a try. But what's the point. Good fights nevertheless. -- 31 1 August 2003 Assurnasirbanipal invites you to Talcama to participate in the third BATTLE ROYAL contest. It is a Delarquan contest so brutal that even some of Talcama's most notable managers will refuse to participate. The rules are simpler than any other contest: You may not avoid any other contest team. There are no silly rules for who can and can't compete. Any team in Talcama is eligible to compete. The scoring is also quite simple (+1 for a win, +1 for a kill (+1 for the win), -1 for a loss) and the first team to reach 25 points is the winner. Scoring will be live--the results for the turn posted in the newsletter. The winner will be able to fight their contest team in Talcama for free for 6 months but more importantly will win a contest against some of the best managers who play the game in one of the hardest contests in the game. First turn for BATTLE ROYAL 3 is Talcama Turn 465, which is due August 30. 19 August 2003 Citizens of Ghea (only the ignorant fail to note Lirith Kai is not in Alastari), no new day is rising, but the sun is setting on just another beautiful evening. While you were sleeping, an irksome rabble has entered the always fair Aruak City. Of course they fought alongside our warriors, most not so treasured, as all gladiators do. They drank with themselves, and slept with themselves. Whether they had masks, who cares. Warriors, don't be afraid. For years Aruak has been one of the safest cities in Ghea, and that custom has been continually cultivated, and will continue to be by those who have called it home for years and those who live, fight, and die by the same ethics. There is no contest, nor has there ever needed to be one for many years. A conflict of personalities has arisen, and the city has been 'invaded' by pests. Any rules that are annouced will be purely for the joy of the lemmings' own little world. Those who are being targeted have no interest in participating except to defend the integrity of an arena that is different from others. Whether you choose to come to Aruak, do it for your own reasons, not theirs. Competing in Aruak City has never been for the faint of heart or the weak willed. Combat is combat, wherever you go. Blood will flow as always, and now many innocents will be caught in the middle, but those who defend Aruak's traditions never target those who bring respect of Aruaki customs with them to our home. So ignore the private ranting announcement brought by the stuporous Frothingsloshers. If you choose Aruak City, do not choose it for an unsanctioned and bogus 'contest', choose it for the tradition. Choose it because Aruak is different.
