It is destroyed. It happened to be close at hand when anger came upon me. It matters not. My anger, though, is justifiable. I have been disrespected. I see all in black and white. There is no color in my world. My black cloak and cowl hide my true features. I have the strength of twenty men and my dark powers are rivaled by few. I am now back on my homeworld, Polaris. I am now back in my stronghold, The Keep of the family Berrymore. My powers are returning after my ignominious defeat on Ghea at the hands of The Icelord, High Lord Bosk and Polar Bear. It is good to be back on Polaris. It is good my vast powers are returning. It is good I am in my ancestral stronghold. It is good my undead minions are assembled for the coming of my enemies. It is good my allies from the Dark Forest have been summoned. It is good that I will, on my territory, face my hated enemies, The Icelord, Bosk and Polar Bear once and for all. This is all good. I am enraged at their audacity! After I escaped destruction at their hands on Ghea and returned here, I knew they would quickly pursue and attempt to defeat me in my weakened state. Anyone with any brains would want to take advantage of my defeat and weakness and immediately attempt to deliver the final blow to destroy me. But these foul cretins disrespect me! ME! Yes, they traveled to Polaris. But my powers have ascertained they went to R'Shann. There I saw the Druidess Polar Bear go off on her own! Foul Elf! Then the wizard and warrior went into the city. Did they immediately gather provisions and forces to travel here to do battle? No. They carouse! They swill ale and frolic with wenches! They dally in the city! Only after I uncovered this did The Icelord deem to mask their actions from my view with his magic. They laugh at me! They display confidence. They disrespect me! They will come. I have no doubt of this. They will regret their arrogance. They will regret their disrespect of my dark and unholy powers. I am a Revenant and I will be victorious...and respected. >)]H[(< + -----:----- + >)] The Free Cities #72 [(< + -----:----- + >)]H[(< Between Ibizond and Korga: The hound that Fist of Kjarran had crippled was dragging itself down the road toward its approaching master, whining pitifully. If it had been a proper dog, the gladiator might have regretted the injury. As it was...serve the damned beast right. As the hound had appeared to grow when it charged him, so did the hunter. What might have been a big horse--if it was a horse at all--became huge, and its rider dominated the sky. He...it seemed to wear a crown of cold lights, or maybe there were northern lights in the sky behind its head. No, that wasn't north, that was southeast. Fist shook his own head to clear out the fantasies. As the rider passed the crippled hound, he cried out in a terrible voice, a word Fist didn't know and didn't want to know. An evil word, he was sure. Maybe a spell, or a vow of vengeance. Not that it mattered! He had the protection of Kjarran and Jayde. He raised his sword against the moon-colored blade that was swinging down out of the stars above him. "Kjarran and Jayde guide my hand!" Fist shouted, and then the blow fell against his blade with enough force that it drove him to his knees. The hunter's blade was white as bone, his own turned red as life's blood, and warmth came into his hands from his two-handed grip on it, and down his arms, to counter the icy air that cloaked his opponent. He was a little surprised to find himself still alive after such a blow, more surprised still to find his blade unbroken. Nothing but the direct intervention of his god Kjarran and the god's Daughter Jayde could have preserved his life, he was sure. And the only proper way to show appreciation of that aid was to get up and fight. Which he would do. As the hunter's blade was withdrawn and raised for another blow, Fist lurched to his feet. The hunter was thundering more of his evil-sounding words, they seemed to streak toward him like arrows, like an icy hail or the bitterest wind of winter, and it was hard to stand against them, the coldness and the hate and the fury. Impossible to stand against another powerful sword-stroke delivered in their wake. Fist did the only thing he could think of and threw himself forward under the falling blade, slashing at the horse's forelegs where it reared high, then at its belly as he rolled under it and out into the road. The horse screamed as cold-gleaming coils emerged from its belly and came down on all four feet, stumbled when one of its front legs wouldn't hold, and fell. The hunter leaped free, but the fallen horse was now between him and his prey. Cold light, colder than moonlight and without that clean purity, shivered around him. The intestines that had spilled from the horse writhed like snakes, or like an animated snare, coils twisting toward Fist. If they caught him, the gladiator believed they would be like a snare and would hold him for the vengeance of the hunter. He edged backward, not taking his eyes off the hunter but wondering uneasily what had become of the hounds. The idea of one or two of those hell-hounds coming up behind was enough to shake the steadiest nerves. As though in answer to his worry, one of the hounds howled pain behind him. "We've got your back," Cadal said. At that moment, the barbarian's voice was the sweetest sound Fist could imagine. "Serimna shield us all with her mercy!" Zilla added. There were several butchery whacks interspersed with screams, and Aghtamar growled, "What does it take to kill the damned thing?" The knowledge that his friends were at his back, ready to stand and fight beside him, was more warming than sunlight. "The hounds won't close with us on their own," Cadal reported from close behind him. "If we can take out the hunter, we may be home clear on this." "That won't be easy," Fist of Kjarran observed. "These things can be hurt, but damned if I know what will kill them." He staggered as one foot was dragged out from under him. Someone caught his arm and kept him from falling while he looked down. And swore. A loop of the horse's intestines had wrapped itself around his ankle. He slashed downward to free his foot, then threw himself to the side just as the hunter struck. Blades rang together as one of his comrades parried the blow. The hunter spoke more of his unknown words that might be spells or cursing. Or really cursing, if it came to that, really laying a curse. Fist pushed himself to his feet again and faced his opponent grimly. "Kjarran and Jayde, this has got to STOP." He raised his sword, noting that the blade had gone red again, and advanced on the dark shape of the hunter. The blade burned as hot as the hunter was cold and made a sound like a deep-voiced bell very far away. Fist felt a presence, a force, move through his body, and without willing it he lunged forward, driving the bright-burning blade toward the hunter. There was a roaring around him, and he felt as though he'd been caught in a twist of wind, or an earthquake, something natural and violent and beyond his control. It was a relief to faint. >)]H[(< + -----:----- + >)] The Free Cities #73 [(< + -----:----- + >)]H[(< Korga: Fist of Kjarran rather liked being hailed as a hero in Korga. It wasn't something he'd expected, which made it even better. Cadal explained to the people-- several times--that the hunter had not been destroyed, only driven off, and that the road was still dangerous after dark, but the Korgans didn't seem to care. They fussed over Fist, cheered when he assured them that Aghtamar, herself a Korgan, had been invaluable in the effort, and generally made a party out of the whole situation. Later that evening, when all the gladiators were so full of food they could barely move (or didn't want to, at least), Fist drew Cadal aside. "These people act like all their troubles are over!" he worried. "The hunter will still be out there, maybe not right away, but he'll be back." "I know that," Cadal said, "and you know that, and more of the Korgans realize it than you might think. But there isn't anything else we can do about it without help." He smiled faintly. "Even the kind of help you had is not exactly what we need here. It was enough for that night, but it was...." He frowned, groping for the right words, then shrugged. "There was power enough, you understand, and the will to help, but it wasn't really the best tool for the job." "What is the best tool, then? If there is one at all." "I think there is a tool," Cadal said, "and I think the man who knows about it is Lord Malcorn. So in the morning we head for Malcorn, and we ask." Zukal: Ghenis watched the ship _Relentless_ ease out into the channel and brushed his hands together. It was bound for Niatoli to further certain interests of the dark cult. On it was Veleks, and Cousin Og, who would look after the small thief...one way or another. Which freed him to attend to other matters. First of those other matters was a meeting with Pelishtekan, the Ferencian who was currently the 'chief priest' of the cult. Ghenis scowled to hide his grimace of disgust. He didn't like the Ferencian. In fact, he loathed the man. But it wasn't necessary to like him, not really. As long as Pelishtekan did his job, nothing else counted. And right now, the man's job was to explain what manner of creature, monster, or whatever was hunting over the lands just north of Zukal. And how the damned thing could be fought and destroyed. It was in the way of certain plans that he had made for the benefit of the dark cult...and of himself, of course. The dark power did not expect his minions to work for nothing but the joy of it. Ghenis left the waterfront behind and wove his way through the twisted and noisome alleys of one of Zukal's poorest districts. The cult always had its centers among the homes of the poor. They were the ones who had something to gain from it, and nothing to lose, from shaking up the old order, after all. Ghenis smiled just a little. He liked shaking things up. The cult was headquartered in a tall narrow building squeezed between other tall narrow buildings. The cellar, which was dark and always damp and divided into tiny rooms no more than six feet square, was used for...storage. More or less. The ground floor, reached by going down half a dozen steps from street level, was the shrine itself. The level above that was where the main work of the cult was done, the plotting and planning, the gathering of information, the good stuff. Above that, two floors of small rooms where members of the cult lived if they couldn't do better for themselves. And on the top floor, the pigeons that carried messages from points as distant as Zuwayza and Murska in the north, Rocanis, Xochithlan, and even Tricorus in the south. Most people had no idea how far the cult reached. Which was another source of amusement to Ghenis. The authorities here in Zukal, the very heart of the cult, had no idea that it was anything more than a handful of dissatisfied commoners meeting to worship some petty godling. Ha! If Bey Sekahos knew how near he stood to the rim of disaster, how fast he was sliding down the slope into hell--! Even the Bandit Princes, who had a clearer understanding of their city, didn't know that the cult was gaining power daily and would soon be ready to make its move. IF the monster north of the city could be dealt with. Ghenis pushed open the door of the old house and stepped toward Pelishtekan's office, batting away the coil of incense that came up from the shrine below. The incense wasn't necessary, just window-dressing added to the cult worship by Pelishtekan. Ghenis didn't care for it. Damned frills! But it did seem to please the lesser members, and of course it added to their "harmless crackpot" image. The Ferencian was waiting for him in the cult's office, simmering with indignation. As soon as the door was shut, he demanded, "What do you think you're doing?" Ghenis raised an eyebrow and smiled faintly, clearing off the other chair and sitting down. "Doing? The cult's work, of course. What did you think I was doing, Pelish?" "In sending Og and Veleks to Niatoli without consulting me, you were--" "--Doing as we agreed was necessary. Niatoli can't be left out of our plans, and we HAD agreed that we should send someone to lay the ground there." "But--" "And it was necessary to get Veleks out of the city before his fear broke the nerve of other people. Cousin Og will keep an eye on him." "If the thief's nerve is broken--" "He'll be fine on Niatoli. The thing he fears doesn't seem to cross water readily." Ghenis leaned forward. "Put aside your annoyance and listen to me, Pelish. The thing Veleks fears--let me tell you about it." He launched into a description of what he had seen north of Zukal, and of what Veleks had been able to tell him. When Ghenis was through, the other man sat in silence for a long moment. Then he shook his head, seeming almost dazed. "I had believed Alastari free of such beings, unaccountable as that freedom had appeared. I supposed it was the Grey Witch's doing, that she had bound them long ago to keep them from interfering in her plans. Why would she loose them now?" "Who knows what the Witch would do? But you do know what this monster--these monsters--are?" "More or less," the Ferencian said, shrugging. "They're remnants of the races that inhabited Ghea before...whatever, the Old Gods or who knows what, started meddling. The ancient scrolls which I have seen in Ferencia speak of them as being the rulers of the world when humans were still little more than beasts living in caves and there were no elves or dwarves here at all." He shrugged again. "Unsupported myth, of course, but it does suggest that they are a very old race. Frankly, if I'd thought of them at all, I would have supposed them destroyed here in Alastari." "Destroyed in Alastari," Ghenis repeated. "That implies that in other places-- such as Ferencia--they are not destroyed, and perhaps not even bound?" "They're BOUND, of course!" Pelishtekan snapped, scandalized. "Er...more or less. Differently in different places, of course. But we couldn't leave them LOOSE." "I can see that," the gladiator agreed. "So, we have these things loose here, but they CAN be bound. Okay, fine. How do we do it?" The Ferencian blanched. "WE don't do it, that is work for great wizards, high priests, men of power--" "And no one in the cult has that amount of power?" Scowling, Ghenis came to his feet and leaned closer to the Ferencian, his hands braced on the desk between them. He gathered up a fist-full of Pelishtekan's tunic. "Are you telling me that the cult doesn't have that kind of power? That it's just a piddling little two-bit cult?" Pelishtekan paled further. "No! No, the cult has that power, but nobody HERE can wield it! And with the Arcanum so weak--" "The state of the Arcanum doesn't seem to be affecting the monsters," Ghenis interrupted in a hard voice. "Any dark god worth his worship should be able to take care of a few monsters, Ferencian. If I find that this is just a small time operation for a small time demon after all, there will be HELL to pay, man, and I will PERSONALLY see that you pay the first installment." * }%|[-----+O+-----]|%{ * }%|[-----+O+-----]|%{ * }%|[-----+O+-----]|%{ * ---===FREE BLADES REGIONAL NEWS===--- Duelmasters ----------- DM 9 ZUKAL (turn 478): SCHIZOPHRENIC of DSM4 (The Sandman, mgr.) What's a move up by 9 you ask? (alright, maybe you didn't ask) Cause for celebration, according to MILITARY MAYHEM. Practice pays for SIR PELLEAS, who pummelled LOVELY BONES, to pocket 27 points. A certain someone should cut down on the drinking and practice more, after losing 15 points to PHOENICIA. (Discrete enough, VOMITO?) You could cut the tension with a scimitar as SODOM of DARQUE FORCES met the Duelmaster. In CHIMLEVTAL, nothing is permanent (except Death), and we find ourselves a new Duelmaster, SODOM. So who's the team that's been walking into taverns last week and ordering milk? Sounds like a PR stunt to me. So much to report, so little time! Perhaps the warriors of STORMWATCH should take up some hobbies, as they are the most avoided team... As a woman of good breeding scorns the "warriors" of WILLBENDERS, so did that sorry team shy from STORMWATCH If challenges were horses, DUKE GORLOIS could open up a fast food joint! Take heed CHIMLEVTAL, of the unprincipled action of UNCAS. By challenging GOMORRAH, 24 points below him, UNCAS besmirches the noble art of dueling. Warriors of CHIMLEVTAL! Do you wish your reputations tainted by the base challenge of UNCAS? SNICKERS found herself challenged by a warrior 22 below: GENERAL PURPOSE. GENERAL PURPOSE of MILITARY MAYHEM kept his wits as he bested SNICKERS. Willing to win at any cost is ZARENDARGAR, who challenged GAZA, 11 points junior. Our sympathies, GAZA! I thought ZARENDARGAR showed great skill and promise when he defeated GAZA. All right, so I slept through it! Big deal! Ah, the duel! The roar of the oppenent, the smell of the crowd! THE RAGE MAN in the Dark Arena wasn't enough for PEKKO of SOL INVICTUS. Maybe that certain serving girl(?) at The Mourngrym Inn and Tavern will be! Alas, poor LOVELY BONES. We all know UNFIT TO BE ORCS' retirement plan isn't the best in the world. SIR PELLEAS, may you be as missed when your time comes. You've heard about ZARLIFF THE LICH of THE STORMBRINGERS. Death plays no favorites, and neither do I. What was a 5-5-0 doing on the fields in the first place? Does SOUTH PARK care so little for their fallen comrade, BUTTERS? MALICE was heard at The Mourngrym Inn and Tavern sneering... Charity is unknown in CHIMLEVTAL, and rightly so. ASSASSIN NATION exacted their revenge against COUP D'TAT. Ask not for whom the sword slashes; it slashes for thee. All good things must come to an end. Keep those sands bloody and the buzzards fat! Like a mixed metaphor, and an overtaxed simile, I now bid CHIMLEVTAL farewell-- Novgorodny Vir DUELMASTER W L K POINTS TEAM NAME SODOM 4368 16 9 0 120 DARQUE FORCES (422) CHALLENGER CHAMPIONS W L K POINTS TEAM NAME MACIOBELLY 4392 19 6 2 114 UNFIT TO BE ORCS (450) PHOENICIA 4502 12 8 1 109 DARQUE FORCES (422) SIR PELLEAS 4352 14 14 1 106 WILLBENDERS (479) HUNGRY BONES 4720 12 6 1 103 UNFIT TO BE ORCS (450) FREY 4197 18 17 2 101 STORMWATCH (440) LAPHROAIG 4529 12 11 0 101 SINGLE MALTS (501) UNCAS 4189 21 17 0 100 THE STORMGUARDS (78) TIGBASA 4868 14 4 0 100 STORMWATCH (440) STIGMA OF STUPID 4948 8 3 1 99 UNFIT TO BE ORCS (450) OBAN 4530 11 11 1 95 SINGLE MALTS (501) PEKKO 4227 15 10 4 94 SOL INVICTUS (469) -POPCORN KERNEL 3313 19 28 0 93 MILITARY MAYHEM (89) SUBOTAI 4380 16 13 0 92 THE STORMGUARDS (78) GAELIN BLACKTALON 4140 15 22 5 92 THE NIGHTHAWKS (43) PALLADICE 3968 18 32 3 91 STORMWATCH (440) CHAMPIONS W L K POINTS TEAM NAME VOMITO 4840 13 7 0 86 WHAMMO & THUDDA 4 U! The Council of Lords is based on friendship, trust, loyalty and honor. These are things Mr. Darque and his "Cartel" will never understand. Salute. -- Polar Bear & Stormwatch Archetype -- How rude! If you would be so kind as to challenge someone else, I would appreciate it. I am trying to fight the cartel. Thank you. -- Uracca Evenstar Lajinn the Genie -- And it was well struck! Salute. -- Stormwatch Abraxis -- You can continue to write silly personal ads and we will simply continue to beat up your warriors. -- Stormwatch High Lord Bosk -- Indeed. I do have RUSH IN RIO and listen to it now as I enjoy a cold Moosehead and complete my turns. I like what they did with "By-tor and the Snowdog." It very much mirrors the "Vapor Trails" tour we caught in LA last year. The power trio is in good form. -- The Icelord (I still think "All the World's a Stage is the greatest live album ever.) Commander Spud -- If it helps the cause, I'm happy. Thanks. -- Faolan Ap Gryffydd Crip -- I am interested in what is the most Lord Protectors you have graduated from a slow arena team. I know you have me beat but I'm curious if I might catch you. -- The Icelord Wordsmith -- Welcome to Chimlevtal. I look forward to crossing swords with you. I hear Mino is active in Aruak City. Hope the old pirate fares well. -- The Icelord Ghab -- No excuses, sorry if you can't understand that. I have heard some unflattering things about you also. <shrug> Why don't we just both give it a rest? -- The Icelord Maciobelly -- I would love to know your stats! -- The Icelord Shau'nin Snowbeard -- Old friend, don't trust Manager Darque. -- The Council of Lords Abraxis -- Be silent, clown. -- Faolan Ap Gryffydd The COL presents Chimlevtal History Facts: On 11/20/89 turn #51: DM: Raoul Ironfist of The Devastators. CH REC LDR: Raoul Ironfist of The Devastators. UNCH REC LDR: Black Mass of South of Heaven. POP LDR: Lone Wolf of The Canucks. WEEK'S FAV: Chaos of Mongol Horde. CURRENT TOP TEAM: Bushmasters. #1 TEAM ON THE MOVE: The Canucks (58). TOP CH TEAM: Briteron By. TOP UNCH TEAM: South of Heaven. There were 52 listed teams. The most popular style was LU with 27. Manager Darque -- I am sure The Jimbo decides when and if you reply to an ad. -- The Icelord Manager Darque -- Shall I list all the managers you have brought to this arena that have spouted exactly what the current VC leadership wants them to? Bring your other manager personas back (Phantasm & Omnimancer) or are they still in hiding? I will DC and avoid any and all members of the Crying Cartel because I laugh at you every time you whelps start sobbing and whining about it. Don't tell me how to play the game. -- The Icelord Manager Darque -- How silly you are to call anyone a coward. Ichabod Frothingslosh made a public challenge to you to square off with him one on one. Since you wanted your Crying Cartel members to fight your battles (as usual) you declined. I don't need a spy report to tell me you are a coward. -- The Icelord Goat -- There was a typo in the zip code. It said 98298. It should have been 98208. Any mail already sent will probably get there a little late, but it should get there. Victory Tavern -- Thanks for the drinks. -- Wordsmith Mr D. Noble, Council of Words, Mr Bobby Bigfoot -- Thanks for the rousing welcome. -- Wordsmith Gaelin Blacktalon -- Congratulations for winning the Duelmasters Title. -- Words To The Wise Uracca -- Might I say, "Wham. Bam. Thank you, ma'am!" -- Archetype Idi A Mean -- I love you long, slow, sultry dancers. -- Capricious (Ambi and proud of it) Rauni -- I was no match for your superior skills. Salute. -- Lexicon Col. Ka Da Fee -- I do fine with the brass (a Col. and a Commander) but have trouble with royalty. (A sir) -- Prodigious Candies -- Mea Culpa. In no way did I mean to do that. I find it hard to believe I was capable, may Hot Tamale fight well in that Great Arena In The Sky. -- Igominy All -- A team rollup $5.00, fighting a tournament $7.00, a full team's turn $10.75, pushing Icelord's buttons priceless! -- Abraxis The Icelord -- Let's watch the whelps fall by the wayside. We know from our long, storied history in Chimlevtal, that most of the mouths will be gone within a year! Omne jus stat in armis and est sularis oth mithas, My Brother!!! -- High Lord Bosk Polar Bear -- Blackmore's Night has a new cd out, Ghost of a Rose. Most hussah! Salute to you, Mi'Lady. -- High Lord Bosk Abraxis -- Your time is nearly up. Time to say bye bye. -- High Lord Bosk Wordsmith -- Welcome to Chimlevtal. I used to compete with Mino in Seam. -- High Lord Bosk, Lords of Valhalla Bosk -- Ummm...you don't feel he needs your help, but when I "pick a fight" with him you feel you need to help him...Right...For the record, I didn't pick any fights. I am responding to downchallenges from members of your alliance! -- Ghab/Assassin Nation Ice -- You and Bosk keep telling me to be silent? I tell you what; I have nothing more to say to the two of you. An old proverb says to never argue with idiots, they always bring you down to their level. I am done arguing with the two of you. You keep downchallenging and I'll keep responding to your cheap tactics on the sands. End of story! -- Ghab/Assassin Nation Mani -- Apparently it was a dulled weapon. I have taken care of the problem and have continued on my murderous ways. -- One Hit Wonder Goat -- Let's call a truce. -- Skullagrim P.S. I'll let you know what HW game I'm going into when I start it. Ask to get in with me next 4 weeks if you want to start it with me. Ghab -- Awaiting your bloodfeud, in fact I have double challenged "Perforate" this turn. Good luck in your future endeavors. May you never be hit with rotten fruit intended for the Council of Fools. -- Goat High Lord Bath, Grandfather of Fools -- Your names are misnomers; the Cartel has never granted you the right to the Titles you falsely claim. The only claim to war is from your confused nithling Ice Board, you speak like a lost Andorian puppy of Rules; like all of your puppets you do not even know who is pulling your strings. Until you shape up or ship out, deal with "Coup D'Tat" a stable with no wits above 11. -- Warriors of Delarquan P.S. All I have is time, so keep your weapons sharp along with your scribe. Lajinn the wienie -- We all know "Storm Watch" did not even bloodfeud me, as for your match up with me from what I have seen from beyond, you were threatened just to get you to the arena to fight me. As I am (was) V.C., you were the draw. You never sent a challenge to the arena master or one of the greatest to run a stable in Chimlevtal, "Goat." None of your council did. So save it. -- Ghost of Julius C. Les Nayel -- Thank you for teaching me so well. As for 9 Minutes, I'm sure you can do much better than all that silence that surrounds you. -- Idi A Mean Egil -- 0-5 ouch. Missed every challenge. Lucky for the Council of Fools. What rhythm were you running with that Bash tactic? Aryan Barbarian really rocked. -- Goat V.C. -- "Cartel: 1. A combination of independent organizations formed to regulate, exchange information on production, pricing and marketing of goods by members. 2. A political group united in a common cause. 3. Supporting a member of an alliance with stable info so that members do not cut or kill each other's prices. 4. Matching kill for kill when a member is unable to. At least a win." The only support I have received is from our Dark Leader. Your actions of your lack of even attempting to help a member of the V.C. get set up in our home arena is unsettling. I have been here 4 turns, nothing as of Turn 232. Are you paranoid? At least act with some unity. Getting ticked on and off. -- Goat Brilliant Orange -- (blinking) Quite blinding, in fact. Why should you be an Orc in Orange? -- Kambard Murh Gefion -- Er, ah...a junior lord, perhaps? Somehow I just don't see you as a "lord of valhalla." There's the style thing, for one, and then...you lost to me? -- Mendal Omshil P.S. I mean, if we're equal in skill, you're in trouble. Alt -- (pained look) You didn't have to live up to your team name with QUITE so much enthusiasm, did you? -- Les Nayle Aryan Barbarian -- YOU are what's in the woodpile? I would never have guessed. -- Jo Ludan Neon Shadow -- I think it's the strobe effect that really got me. -- Norgen Pelh Psych Major -- I dunno, are you giving me something? -- Mendal Omshil (only one ell) P.S. It's a family name, used to be Om's Hill--where one of our ancestors came from, but you know how names get worn down over the generations. Bandit Prince -- I'm on a winning streak. I really like night fights. -- Pekko Helm Hammerhand -- Strong challenge, sir. After that, I must rethink my default strategy. -- Inmar Abyssinian -- You are not the type of match I was looking for. -- Spatha Lexicon -- You were the very definition of persistence and endurance. My manager's advice about not varying attack location was invaluable to my eventual success against you. -- Rauni Faolan Ap Gryffyd -- You sure turned that fight right around on me; next time, give up already! -- Mani All -- I'm sorry not to have an episode for you today, but there was no time to write a worthy one, and I wouldn't give you second rate. -- the Scribe 31 October 2003 Come one, come all, to the greatest contest in Alastari! The Third Annual Turf War will be in North Fork (DM 47) starting in about 6-7 turns.... C'mon and get your team some experience, and get declared! More info available in North Fork's newsletter. Bloody Sands. -- Asmo Dius, TCB 13 November 2003 Let it be known far and wide, that the Warrior TUM 18-7380, the Champions Runner-Up for the recent Tournament, is managed by none other than Shocking Toad. I named this fabulous warrior after my friend and mentor, TUM, a.k.a. Don! Sorry TUM didn't get me my first TC; however, a runner-up with all those sandbaggers is pretty impressive, if I do say so myself. -- Shocking Toad, The Manager 13 November 2003 All -- This is to announce that I am no longer a member of the Vendetta Cartel Alliance. I have enjoyed my time there, and I've made some great friends. Their company will be missed, but they will endure. The following warriors will travel to ADVANCED DUELMASTERS after next turn: FREY (31-4197) STORMWATCH (440) TOURNEY FREEZE CHANGE -- ADVANCE NOTICE Beginning at the Winter Face-to-Face in Tempe (January 2004), we will implement several changes affecting tournaments. The tournament announcement for the upcoming FTF and future tourneys will reflect these changes. First, we will eliminate the tourney freeze for all regular DM warrior classes. Regular DM warriors will not be classed ahead of the tournament, but instead will fight according to their FE on the date of the tourney. There will still be a freeze for the ADM classes, occurring on the same timeline as before, approximately 6 weeks before the tournament. In addition to the above change, the warrior classes will be slightly altered. The new tourney classes will be as follows: DM Tourney Classes ADM Tourney Classes ====================== ====================== 0 FE: Rookies Freshmen 1-4 FE: Apprentices ADM 5-10 FE: Initiates Eligibles 11-20 FE: Adepts ---induction--- 21-30 FE: Champions Contenders 31+ FE: Challengers Primus All regular DM tourney classes will remain solely FE based. All ADM classes will now be based on warrior characteristics (i.e., the ADM split algorithm), including the Freshmen class. The Gateway and Primus arenas will be merging before the FTF to form one top arena. These warriors will be split into two tournament classes, the Contenders and the Primus classes, again based upon their characteristics. More information on this will be published in the newsletters for those arenas. If you have any questions about the above changes, please contact Customer Service. Good luck in your games. -- Green Eyes and the RSI staff
