The receipts were way up (as was the Jimbo). Both happenstances were the result of his team of former succubi warriors now possessing female human bodies. The girls' strong appetites attracted a lot of attention. Once, the arena had taken all his focus. Now, the day to day operations of the Cartel House Of Ill Repute (the CHOIR) dominated his time. The wheeling, dealing and girls filled his days and nights (quite nicely). He thanked the fates for his new life as he ran his hand up the smooth and supple leg of the squirming girl on his lap. His attention was diverted by the sound of three firm knocks at the office door. "Come in!" he ordered without pausing from nuzzling Famine's neck. The door opened and a small figure entered the room. The figure was no bigger than a child, but the demon like visage inspired neither the joy nor mirth that children bring, except in the Jimbo. "Darque!" the Jimbo greeted his half-demon son, Master Darque, warmly, as he rose to his feet, nearly dumping the girl on his lap to the floor. "Run along!" he dismissed Famine with a pat on the behind. Master Darque never really understood what it was that the Jimbo felt for him. It wasn't the fear and awe that his appearance inspired in others. It wasn't simply respect. It was something else. He had grown up at his mother's side learning the arts of power. Her, he understood. He was an asset to her. His father understood his power, but cared little about it either way. He sought neither to control his son nor to undermine him. It was odd, this human way. He had been instrumental in having his father imprisoned in hell for several years. Even now his father wore a body of a young warrior priest who had come to Chimlevtal and made the mistake of trusting Darque, because of those actions. His father had simply accepted the action as necessary for his son's continued existence outside of hell. As a result of knowing this man with his weakness of the flesh, deep sorrows and unbridled joys, Master Darque felt something for this human. Something alien to his demon nature--a spark of humanity. It was a weakness, Master Darque was aware, but something about the grin that his father always had when he walked into the room evoked one of his own. The man was an infection on Master Darque's soul. Some day he was aware he would have to kill his father to stop the infection from growing, but that was for another day. Today, he smiled back. An expression that would have made most wince in terror, but not the Jimbo, who rushed forward ignoring his outstretched hand to hug the half-demon. Master Darque cringed in response. Yeah, some day he would have to kill the man. "So what brings you by our fine establishment?" the Jimbo asked. "You don't think I'm cooking the books?" "No!" was all the response Master Darque offered. Indeed the Jimbo was well trusted by the Cartel. Every member was getting more money than they had ever imagined that such a place could bring in a city like Chimlevtal. Vice pays, as the Jimbo always said. "It's about the Strong Arm Senate resigning from the organization and then wanting to change their mind." Master Darque said pouring himself a glass of brandy from his father's private stock. "Yeah, I understand, I was the only one who said we should let them return." "Well, just about!" Master Darque commented sipping the sweet liquor. "With them gone, we are short-handed in Chimlevtal. And there is another concern!" Master Darque paused to look at his father. "The arena has become weak. It is being overrun by the noncombatants. Last cycle 101 warriors competed--eighteen were scum!" "What!!??" The Jimbo's eyes flashed with anger. "Chimlevtal, the greatest fighting arena in Alastari is being overrun by scum!! How could this happen? Have all the managers of Chimlevtal lost their fighting spirit? Have they became a bunch of weak kneed sissies??" "It's funny you should say that!" Master Darque had anticipated his father's response. "Some have said the same of you!" "What do you mean?" the Jimbo blustered with anger. "I was fighting in Chimlevtal, when most of them were suckling on their mothers' breasts. I have run two TP scum in my life. I have never had a losing record in Chimlevtal. Hell, the last team I ran here I had a 55% winning record, when I retired to run the CHOIR!" It was so easy! Master Darque smiled to himself. "Well, Icelord has been saying that in your last turn in Chimlevtal one of his warriors killed your lady, Death, and you ran in fear." "Are you kidding me? She's a succubus in a human body. You can't kill her. She's working right now. You can kill the host, but not her. Besides, you know as well as I do the fight was fixed. IceJerk paid off the commission to arrange that 'random' match up. How else does my eleven fight warrior get matched up with a warrior that is so far above her in the standings that she could not have even challenged him. How else does my eleven fight warrior get matched against Icelord's thirty-five fight warrior. Thirty-five fights!! I've never had a warrior take that long to graduate. IceJerk couldn't manage his way out of a three sided barn with a map and an instruction manual! The fight was fixed!" "Well, people are talking is all I'm saying!" the half-demon goaded his father. "The arena holds no great joy for me anymore! That's why I was happy to take over managing the CHOIR!" the Jimbo explained, "I'll get the women together. We're going back to war." "No, that's not necessary!" Master Darque played him like a harp. "If you've lost your edge, you've lost your edge. We can handle the war without you." "Boy, I was managing gladiators when you were still slapping around imps for their lunch money!" "Well, if you're sure you want to do this! I'll let the Cartel know the Jimbo is coming back!" the half-demon said gleefully. "Yeah, tell them I'm coming back! And I want something else, too." "What's that, Dad?" Master Darque asked. This was an unexpected turn! "I want you to help me resurrect Crimson!" the Jimbo said, mentioning the name of the other originator of the Cartel. Master Darque had heard the story many times. His father's warrior, Elvish Parsley had killed one of Bosk's warriors. When Bosk had bloodfeuded, Elvish almost killed another of Bosk's warriors. The Jimbo had diplo'd Bosk to suggest that Elvish, the greatest warrior his father had had to that time, might be too good for the newbie's team and suggested that, if he wanted to start a friendly rivalry that his newbie friend ,Crimson Knight, might make a good choice. That all went well. The two of them, Bosk and the Jimbo wrote back and forth for sometime. The Jimbo helping to teach Bosk what he could. Then Icelord decided to get into the act. Bullying the newbie, Crimson Knight. When The Jimbo had learned that Icelord planned on declaring war on his newbie friend, his father had trumped him and declared war on Icelord first. It was the first shot in a war that has carried on for years! Crimson had mysteriously died at the hands of an assassin, while his father had been trapped in hell. "Maybe Crimson won't want us to disturb his rest!" "Nonsense, we'll wake him! Then if he wants to stick around we'll hunt him up a new body! If not, we can always send him back! Maybe he can produce evidence that Icelord hired that assassin!" the Jimbo added happily! "We could find the assassin and force him to talk. Then maybe the hangman could shut IceJerk up permanently!" "OK!" Master Darque agreed, knowing full well that the assassin had been long dead as well by his hand! What his father didn't know was who had hired the assassin, but Master Darque did! After all, the half-demon could not risk having the only person with a better claim return to try and rule the Vendetta Cartel. That would have spoiled his plans! But now that his power was fully entrenched, he could let Crimson return from the dead. * }%|[-----+O+-----]|%{ * }%|[ Returns ]|%{ * }%|[-----+O+-----]|%{ * Part II: Resurrection By Crimson Knight An eldritch vapor encircled the gravesite and a faint rumbling could be heard from deep within the bowels of the earth. An armour clad hand sprung forth from the ground and clawed the soil to free the being that was entombed beneath it. A giant of a man clad in sinister looking spiked armour stained red with old blood slowly rose out of the earth. Two brimstone embers fueled by hell's fire could be seen eerily glowing within the demonic looking helm. A hauntingly hollow voice bellowed out in anguish "Who disturbs my rest ?" Jimbo shifted uneasily from one foot to another, making sure that the perimeter was secure. The dark robed figure called out "It is I, Master Darque that has called you forth from the grave." "My dear friend..." replied the armour clad hellion, "Why haven't the souls of Icelord and Bosk been sent to me for eternal torture and damnation? Have they not yet been crushed under foot?" "No Crimson, they have not. The war still rages on." retorted Master Darque. In a furious tone, the Crimson Knight angrily shouted with fetid breath "This...is unacceptable !!!" "I knew that you would feel this way. The Cartel could use your strength again. They have bolstered their numbers and we likewise should do the same. What say you, old friend?" quipped Master Darque. "It has been years since I had the pleasure of watching one of their warriors gutted like a pig upon the arena sands. It is time for us to let the lands know that we ARE the strongest alliance." Crimson Knight stated defiantly. "There is a slight problem. Your old stable disbanded and traveled elsewhere since your fated night with that assassin at the Boar's Head Inn." interjected Master Darque. Crimson Knight laughed heartily and replied, "There is no problem. Death has only made me stronger and my new infernal gifts should prove useful. Not to mention that I have made new friends from the lower planes of Hades that I shall rally as my new stable of warriors." "New friends? ...like demonic friends?" Jimbo asked. "Yes...demonic allies. But don't worry, friend...wouldn't you rather have them fighting for us under my control instead of against us?" Crimson prodded. "Of course I would...by any chance, do any of them know me?" Jimbo asked inquisitively. "I don't believe so, but then again, I don't remember which succubi you knew. In the passing of 6 moons I shall find the appropriate bodies for possession by the demonic hosts. Chimlevtal will once again tremble with fear !!!" Crimson bellowed with confidence. Crimson gave an ear-piercing whistle of banshee magnitude. The whinnying of a horse and a thunderous gallop could be heard across the stillness of night. A solid black stallion with flaming sulphurous hooves appeared from out of the unnatural fog that surrounded the graveyard. Crimson slowly mounted himself into the saddle of his infernal horse and turned once more towards Master Darque and Jimbo. "Vengeance will once again be ours. Icelord and Bosk will pay dearly for their insolence." spewed Crimson. With that, Crimson pulled out a wicked looking serrated sword and raised it straight up into the air while rearing his horse onto its hind legs. A thunderous crack of lightning split the sky asunder and the Crimson Knight disappeared with his steed into the unnatural surrounding mists. "Uhhh...Master Darque?" asked Jimbo. "Yes...." replied Master Darque. "Do you really think it was a good idea to summon Crimson from the dead?" wondered Jimbo. Master Darque retorted, "Sure it was...Icelord and Bosk will never see it coming." * }%|[-----+O+-----]|%{ * }%|[-----+O+-----]|%{ * }%|[-----+O+-----]|%{ * The Revenant (part 18) It was late afternoon when High Lord Bosk and The Icelord arrived at their destination. They had flown over the Dark Forest and as the woods gave way to open land and the estate of Berrymore, they reconnoitered the area. Seeing the great mansion of the family of Berrymore brought back memories. Many years back they had ended the line of that foul family. The manor and lands then were magnificent and well kept. Now the house was decrepit, dilapidated and haunted. The fields were untilled and filled with weeds. The fruit bearing trees and grape vines were long dead and stood in silence. The cobbled road leading to the estate was covered with various vegetation. The iron fence and gate that once guarded the Lord of this land were rusted and bent. The great lawn was now a weed and vine choked wilderness. Several windows in the two-story building were broken and a pale tattered curtain flapped slowly from the wind in one of them. There were signs that the house had suffered fire damage. The forlorn keep stared at Bosk and The Icelord as they dismounted from their Dragonhorses. Not a bird sang as the sun began its departure for this day. The air itself had the feeling of evil and death. The Dragonhorses, in contact with the two Overlords via mindspeak, flew up and off. Bosk with a look of grim determination drew his sword and stared at the haunted house. The Icelord tossed two figurines to the ground. They transformed into a pair of full-grown sabertooth tigers, one male, and the other female. "Secure the perimeter." whispered the Mage. The great cats bound off in opposite directions. They showed no hesitation to enter the Dark Forest. The Icelord then leaned against his staff, closed his eyes and began a quiet chant. The hair on the back of Bosk's neck stood up as he felt a duel arcane begin between his blood- brother and the evil undead being that was holed up in the great house. He clasped the medallion of his great Gnomish God, The Golden One, and began using his clerical powers to counter the foul one and grant them greater strength in the coming battle. The Icelord and The Revenant continued their magical duel for nearly an hour. Bosk growled and paces to and fro while keeping an eye on The Icelord. The Mage continued to quietly chant as he leaned against his staff. Bosk looked from the house in front of them to the evil forest behind. His magical sword glowed softly as did his medallion. The waiting was torment to the Battlelord. He wished to close with the enemy and cleave him in half. The gloom of twilight enveloped them as the sun departed. Perhaps a mile away the sound of one of the great cats filled the air with a blood-curdling scream. The Dragonhorses were nowhere in sight. The Gnome feared not the night. His infra-vision and great skills made him confident in any night battle. The waiting was nearly too much for him to bear though. He picked up a rock and hurled it toward the foe's stronghold. It flew through the night and stopped at the border marked by the iron fence. With a slight crackle of blue light it fell straight to the ground. The Icelord continued to quietly chant his magic. "That shield is coming down." rumbled Bosk as a sliver of the moon casts a pale glow on the landscape. >)]H[(< + -----:----- + >)] The Free Cities #77 [(< + -----:----- + >)]H[(< Near Barikala: The Golden Moon, Lady Protector Artemisia commanding, was approaching the Urt Delta from the northeast as the day drew to a close. Her goal was Zukal, but as soon as the ship came within sight of land, she would anchor and wait for daylight. The maze of channels and islands that formed the delta was not something to attempt at night. At least, not now. A decade ago there had been an intricate network of beacons that a skilled and familiar pilot could use to reach the city's docks at any hour, but the invasion from the East had put an end to that. The defenders had destroyed the beacons to hamper their foes, and the triumphant invaders of Zukal had neither the knowledge or desire to restore the system. Artemisia's lip curled. The Easterners called the people of Alastari barbarians, because many of their cultures were young. But if the 'civilized' old cultures of the East didn't--or couldn't--restore safe shipping, who was the true barbarian? The lookout shouted that land was in sight, and Artemisia turned to squint into the setting sun. But she was lower than the man on the mast and couldn't see the dark line of the shore yet. With a shrug, she turned to look the other way, searching the sky for a warning of the sudden storms that had given this great lake its name. That horizon was clear, also. She didn't quite trust it, but...the sky was clear and the wind was steady. Good enough, for now. When she turned to the west again, she could see land herself, the long, dark hump of Barikala Island, silhouetted against the crimson sky. The sun vanished from sight, and its light was replaced by the broad, slightly greenish beam that shot straight upward from the center of Barikala. Around her, the sailors moved to place the ship in a safe position and run out the anchors for the night; her first officer needed no instructions to handle that. That beam of light over Barikala was also new since the invasion, and Artemisia wished her friend Beag Magda were here. The Elf understood such things. Or at least knew how to think about them, because nobody understood just what that blazing beacon was...other than dangerous. No one who had landed on Barikala in the last few years had returned from there to tell what they'd seen. The lookout called down something else that she couldn't hear over the bustling sounds of sails being lowered and anchor chains creaking off their drums. One of the sailors halfway down the mast below him shouted up, got an answer, and came hurrying down. "Koro says there's something coming out through the delta," the sailor reported. "He isn't sure what, the light's about gone, but it might be a group of canoes. They aren't in a main channel, anyway." Artemisia glanced to the side. Her first officer was there, as he should be. "We may have an attack coming up," she said quietly. He nodded and moved off to make sure the crew was ready. Artemisia tapped her fingers on the hilt of her cutlass, reviewing possibilities, then shrugged. It was useless to speculate without more information, and dangerous to formulate plans under such circumstances. She would have to wait upon events. Zukal: Ghenis glared down into the alley where the last of the soldiers were marching past. Nothing had happened. The dark god he had believed he served had not responded. The Ferencian was lying to them all. But somewhere, he knew, there was such a dark demongod, and he vowed to find it. And the Ferencian liar would be the first sacrifice.... He withdrew carefully from the roof above the alley. It would be a good idea to get out of Zukal for a while. Out from under that liar Pelishtekan's eye, so that he could think and lay his plans in relative safety. Niatoli Island, that's where he would go. The false cult already had a 'mission' there, and Cousin Og would be his, Ghenis's, first recruit. The Isle of the Eye: Beag Magda sat at a small table near the back of the Two Lilies and swirled the last of the tea in her cup moodily. She had no fault to find with the Lilies, they knew her here and always gave her the same table. And the tea, as usual, was excellent. Something was wrong somewhere, but it was less definite--and more important--than a problem with the service, or a mediocre cup of tea. She was almost afraid to look into her cup. That was nonsense. It was only the unknown that should be feared, and once she read the tea leaves, the problem would not be unknown. Well, it would not be completely unknown, but tea leaves were a very imprecise method of diagnosis and prognostication. With a little shake, she threw off the dark mood, emptied the last swallow of tea into the saucer, and peered into the cup at the leaves clinging to its bottom and sides. She could feel the hair trying to rise on the back of her neck. The leaves seemed to be swimming in a web of shadows. The patterns they formed all indicated as plainly as tea leaves could that something very dark was impending. But nothing was clear. Who was menaced, and by what? How soon? Beag Magda set the cup down very carefully, because her hand was trying to shake, and laid coins beside it to pay for the tea. She needed more information, and she couldn't get it here. Stormcrowe: Lord Protector Ipecac stalked ashore and glared around for someone to share his outrage. Anyone who recognized him in time--and Stormcrowe was a small island with a limited population who generally DID recognize one another--departed hastily. Lady Protector Snowfall wasn't quite fast enough. "Do you know what HAPPENED?" Ipecac demanded. Looking distinctly queasy, Snowfall shook her head. "My ship was ATTACKED," the warrior from Emetics snapped. He didn't notice when the shapely woman flinched from his vehemence; people were always doing that around him. He stalked closer, dropping his voice for privacy. "Monsters," he hissed. "Demons out of the waves. Half shark, half man, you might say. Others like kraken. They were summoned by a dark wizard on a black ship. We have to do something about this." Snowfall swallowed a couple of times, then said, "Why? And how?" Ipecac raised his eyebrows. "You want to live on nothing but fish caught in the harbor?" he asked. "They could blockade us! And what if they decide to come ashore and attack us here on the island?" He frowned thoughtfully. "Probably it's part of some Karnhorn plot, and if we don't nip it in the bud, they'll be all over us, murdering and enslaving. Can't have that." "No," Snowfall agreed faintly, "we can't have that. But how do we stop them?" "We fight, of course!" He hesitated, perhaps realizing that such a plan was lacking in useful details. "All the ships will have to be armed with...catapults," he suggested. "And...none of them going out alone. Yes. And we need to find any wizards on the island and recruit them to help fight, and more importantly to find out what we're up against. That's a beginning." He nodded firmly. "We need to start right away!" Snowfall turned quickly to the rail at the edge of the dock and fed the fish her lunch, then straightened. "Yes, I can see that. Wizards, catapults, convoys. No time to waste...." * }%|[-----+O+-----]|%{ * }%|[-----+O+-----]|%{ * }%|[-----+O+-----]|%{ * ---===FREE BLADES REGIONAL NEWS===--- Duelmasters ----------- DM 9 ZUKAL (turn 486): ALEX GRIFFIN of DREAM PARK (Zalgor Prigg, mgr.) SPY REPORT Good day, friends and fiends, welcome to your friendly neighborhood spyreport. I doubt CHIMLEVTAL will ever be the same. It seems the training can make the difference, as WHAMMO & THUDDA 4 U! is pushed out of top team by STORMWATCH, who came from 3rd with a 5-0-1 this turn. I want to know who's buying the drinks for who tonight at The Victory Tavern, seeing as WHY DID I DO IT's 7-4-2 has earned them 5th place in the ranks. Our condolences (or sneers, as the case may be) go out to SINGLE MALTS for their drop to 18th from 5th. A 1-4-0 can do that. The SOL INVICTUS guild has had a 3-1-0 turn and deserves to be watched in the future. You never know where this kind of thing can lead. And let's see, MAGOG fought HELM HAMMERHAND and gained 18 points and contributed to DARQUE FORCES' 2-3-1. HELM HAMMERHAND has lost to MAGOG, falling 13 points, while helping make LORDS OF VALHALLA a 2-3-0 turn. LUCKY 7 challenged for the Duelmastership this turn, attempting to dethrone UNFIT TO BE ORCS' warrior. The attempts to dethrone the Duelmaster have failed, and HUNGRY BONES remains CHIMLEVTAL's top warrior for another turn. Can someone confirm a rumor for me? I hear the top team makes their losing fighters do dishes at The Victory Tavern until they win. Maybe? Oriental wise man once say, 'Hiding behind shields prevents proper sun tanning.' Inscrutable, but true. ASSASSIN NATION has cause to stand tall, as they were CHIMLEVTAL's most avoided team. A smart manager knows this is a team to beat. And guess who avoided ASSASSIN NATION stable the most? Believe it or not, it was THE STORMGUARDS. Anyone surprised? Well, sports fans, take notice that MAGOG from DARQUE FORCES was CHIMLEVTAL's most challenged warrior this turn. I don't know about you, but TIGBASA challenging down 23 points to THE NIGHTHAWKS' TOBIAS HAWKWIND, is not really worthy of STORMWATCH. I thought challenges were for warriors, not cowards looking for easy wins. TIGBASA won victory over TOBIAS HAWKWIND, is nothing sacred? In a fit of brilliance or of stupidity (hard to say sometimes), DASKON challenged VOMITO today, facing a 34 difference in recognition. And though DASKON lost to VOMITO, the valiant attempt earned him 1 worth of recognition. Foolhardiness can sometimes pay. Building dreams on hope, INMAR challenged up 37 points this turn to take on STIGMA OF STUPID from UNFIT TO BE ORCS stable. And crowds were on their feet when INMAR claimed a victory from STIGMA OF STUPID, and now has 107 points for hers efforts. Tsk, tsk, tsk. ZARENDARGAR, does your manager know you're challenging down 20 points to fight BLISTER from 5 BELOW ZERO? We're not surprised to hear that ZARENDARGAR beat BLISTER, but I bet it would be interesting to hear why OVERLORDS made such a challenge. Well now, what do you expect when someone like BLUE from 5 BELOW ZERO challenges down 20 points to fight TARL OF KO-RO-BA of THE STORMBRINGERS? It pains me to see warriors take advantage of the system like this. BLUE won victory over TARL OF KO-RO-BA, as if it surprises anyone. The Dark Arena is for those who cannot win, not who cannot lose with grace. Dignity in life or death is the warrior's creed. PALLADICE must have surprised STORMWATCH this turn, after they sent her to the Dark Arena, but the Dark Arena couldn't hold her! The grave that DARQUE FORCES had dug for SODOM may yet be filled with the body of LIGHTBRINGER. Seldom are the likes of this to be seen. SODOM lives still! KOSMOS'S MATRIX made what looks to be a tough decision this turn, as they sent SHALLOW THREAT, with a record of 5-9-0, to SHALLOW THREAT death. Farewell, his. I guess it was coming sooner or later, THE STORMGUARDS has lost JAN PREMYSL OTOKAR, and CHIMLEVTAL is bound to miss him. For a little while, at least. 5 BELOW ZERO has lost ? to the arena in the sky, but they don't seem to be worried. What do you expect from 4-6-0? Seriously now, is it really honorable for KIRKEN TUORNIN from THE NIGHTHAWKS to kill ? and give 5 BELOW ZERO the chance to bloodfeud? Mmmm, could be. I wish to point out for WORDS TO THE WISE that there is but a single turn before WHAMMO & THUDDA 4 U! and their warrior, ALT, will get away with killing CAPRICIOUS. Is it really true that CHIMLEVTAL has more dishwashers per capita that fighters? Just thought I'd ask... Thought for the day, a new sword shines bright, but the notched sword sings the sweetest. It's been nice chatting with you, until we meet again, keep your swords sharp and your hammers heavy. What do you got to say to that, Frenchy? -- Cool Hand Luke Goat -- My Lunger, Ganglare, was victorious in the stylemaster contest in the Zalcon. I missed two turns and had to fight three on maintenance but he overcame. -- Egil Mr. Darque -- As usual, you haven't a clue. -- Stormwatch Abraxis -- On turn #235 our personal to you said "we are 9-2 against your Willbenders." A fact. On turn #236 you state to us "You lie, I am 11-15 against your alliance." We realize reading is beyond you, but hire a scribe a listen once again. We are still 9-2 against your Willbenders. Lies are what your alliance is all about. -- Stormwatch Frey -- I got edited and omitted last turn, so let me clarify what I was saying. You can blood feud the DM if you are in the CCs (which I was). However, it is still impossible because he was leaving the arena due to graduation. -- Sodom Ice -- I definitely got edited, so you can just fill in the blanks and guess what I was saying. -- Master Darque P.S. "Luck" into the throne? No, that would be running a warrior to his nearly 50 FE limit in Basic DM and just happen to end up on the throne. (IE, your warriors.) We actually fight for it and our warriors aren't forced graduated through "too much FE" rules (IE, once again, your warriors). I don't use the term sand baggers for your warriors because that is something good managers do with good warriors. Obviously you would know nothing about that. COL -- Tribute? Come to C.H.O.I.R. and we'll give you a "tribute." We will give a "tribute" performance of how the citizens of Chimlevtal actually view the COL. Of course, all of the actors will be speaking from their sphincters, but you will probably come expecting that, won't you? Now if I could just figure out how to produce a rash upon the buttocks area of the actors that SOOOO reminds us of each COL member. Nothing fatal, by any stretch of the imagination, just a bothersome irritation that stays put. Maybe I could find something in the Great Library. WHAT? Polar Bear took the book and the crayons! Oh well, maybe next time. -- Master Darque All -- For those that are interested in such things: Sodom, LU 11(+1)-12-8-17-15-9- 13. Naturally adept with SS, favors High/Very High, Dodge, and learns Decise. My third LU overall and first from this team. -- Master Darque Council of Lords -- I come back to the arena, because our proud fighting arena is being overrun by TP scum and who do I find is behind it! Why am I not surprised? Out of 24 of your current warriors (if you can call them that) between 7 and 13 of them are TP scum. Have you no shame? For a group who likes to give a lot of lip service to honor, you never seem to display any! Why is it that a group that claims criminal ties seems to have a lot more honor than a group of alleged nobles. I don't say never run a TP. I've graduated one. I have run a couple of others, but more than 25% of 5 teams. Shame on you! You spit in the face of Chimlevtel's warrior tradition. Now you're going to tell me I should not lecture you on what's honorable. Well, someone should. Apparently, your mommas didn't, and no experience in your lives has taught you about honor. Perhaps there is someone in you can blame for your lack of understanding. Never mind! Keep running furniture instead of warriors, but if you do--kindly stop speaking of honor--the concept is beyond your comprehension. Three other points of information. Pride is a sin! Close-minded is not a compliment. And pomposity is not a virtue! -- The Instructive Jimbo Jimbo -- Do you really believe that the COL's sanctimonious infantile intellects can really understand what you just said?! -- Crimson Knight Crimson -- One can only explain to the ignorant--comprehension is up to them. "He who knows not and knows he knows not is a child--teach him! He who knows not and knows not that he knows not is a fool--shun him!" -- The Wise Jimbo Jimbo -- But such sharp words might be damaging to their fragile hubris! -- Crimson Knight Crimson -- Allow their egos to run wild at the risk of their souls!? How can I do that? -- The Benevolent Jimbo Sodom -- You think that you can't Bloodfeud the Duelmaster? Last cycle I noted in the newsletter that "Hungry Bones savagely defeated Sir Pelleas in a 3 minute Bloodfeud Title competition." Hungry Bones is the Duelmaster, having taken the title in a BF match. Like your manager, Dorque, you know so little. Both of you are fools and cowards. -- Lord Protector Frey All -- Well, I have returned, hopefully for good. It looks like it will be one slow arena and one fast arena and I couldn't pass up DM 31 which was my original home slow arena. I will be sending 3 to DA to start and graduating my PL and TP fairly soon. I look forward to once again plying my combat skills in the best slow arena in the game. -- Tripwire Rumplestiltskin -- I've got your number, er, a, name. I have it indeed! -- Archetype Rumplestiltskin -- A hammer a day brings the doctor into play. -- the Editor, Word To the Wise Hmmm...didn't you used to be Wordsmith? -- Ed. Poll Pott -- Perhaps that wasn't the best match up for you. I must salute your diligence as a warrior. -- Igominy Prodigious -- You dork! I handled my NPC; where were you? Losing to Dangerous Criminal? They should lock you up! -- Lexicon A fluke! A fluke, I say! -- Prodigious (head bowed low) Hungry Bones! Orcs! Way to go, Slugbait! Is there a doctor in the house? -- The Editor My dear Man; not the rotting flesh of long dead beasts, but merely the living body and soul of losers. -- Igominy Master Darque -- Perhaps I should ask? Was Alexander Pope Catholic? -- Igominy (stirring the pot) Congratulations to Lord Protectors Sodom and Palladice. -- All us Words To The Wise Oran Ji -- Why wasn't that "our" song? I rather enjoyed the whizzing of my longspear as my weapon sang its way into the hamstring of your leg. -- Leena Windsong Bunko -- What?! What do you mean my insurance policy has lapsed? I was told I would be covered! -- Tel-Jilad Here, have a blanket. -- Ed., feeling terribly helpful for some reason All -- Is it just me, or do there seem to be fewer and fewer gladiators each turn? -- Dark Warriors Grizz -- You're (*hic*) lucky you (*hiccup*) challenged that dwarven to a (*hic*) drunken contest, or else (*hic*), I wouldn't have fallen an go boom. Me tired now and sleepy time. -- Leena Windsong (in a drunken slumber) COL -- You guys may or may not have heard about me but no matter. I am Fizban and I have just recently joined the Vendetta Cartel so now I will be taking my feeble knowledge of this game that I have picked up over the years and will join my brothers in this war so to speak. Then while I beat you in more than 50% of our fights together I will also entertain you with my light banter and mild insults. You see this is what I live for in this game. I love the game and all the feuds and rivalries that go with it. I hold no hard feelings after the fight but will go after rivals with gusto. I don't seek downchallenges but I do seek out my opponents and the most favorable match up against that opponent so if your downchallenged by some of my guys please don't take it personally. With all that said I do really wish you the worst of luck against me and my brothers. -- Fizban the fanatic P.S. So go ahead and insult away; let's see what you've got. Icelord -- Well, since I'm the top of the food chain, I guess that makes you frozen food. Ha Ha, I kill me. -- Fizban Polarbear -- Just in case you're slow that makes you frozen food too. -- Fizban High Lord Bosk -- I guess you can be junk food. Ha! -- Fizban Everyone especially COL -- I would like to introduce my team to your arena, 'Why did I do it'. I've been fighting in 47 for several years now and some of you already know me. Howdy, Slugbait. To all my VC brothers and sisters I say let's kick some butt. -- Fizban Goat -- Sorry about the RIP; good luck with the bloodfeud and teach me well. -- Blond Moment Tombstone -- Very nice fight. Drinks are on me. -- Was Drunk Shadow Squirrel -- Bloody no good rodents anyway. -- No Idea(what just happened) Gog -- If it's any consolation. -- It felt good P.S. Really it did Battlin Rattler -- My team 4-0-1 vs. this arena 0-2-0 against your team. Grrrrrr. -- Got Hammered Abraxis -- Hello, nice to see you again. Same to you, Goat. -- Fizban Congrats to all the inducted into the HOF. Huzzah!!! -- D. Noble Hungry Bones -- I'm ready to step to the table and roll the dice, I'll be one of the many placing challenges against you this turn. Odds are heavy in your favor...but I feel a good roll coming on.... -- Lucky 7 Polar Bear -- Manager Dorque is pathetic. He is lucky we respect the laws of the city or he would of been flogged and thrown from the city walls long ago. We allow the Criers to duel here because we respect the laws of Chimlevtal. -- The Icelord Lord Protector Frey -- Like his Manager, Dorque, Sodom knows little about Duelmasters. Like all the Criers they have had everything about Duelmasters handed to them on a silver platter. Salute. -- The Icelord Stormwatch -- On turn #235 you state to Abraxis the simpleton, "We are 9-2 against your Willbenders." Simpleton replies on turn #236, "You, lie I am 11-15 against your alliance." No one is as confused as this clod. Keep punting the Criers. Salute. -- The Icelord High Lord Bosk -- Well said, warrior. You are, of course, correct on this matter. I will address it below. OMNE JUS STAT IN ARMIS. -- The Icelord Manager Dorque -- Happy New Year! In the spirit of the new year The COL will make you a generous offer. To end this war the VC must do the following: Admit the VC started the war when "dad" flamed High Lord Bosk when he first came into the game. Apologize for all the garbage and lies your alliance has spewed in the personals for the past 9 years. Personally surrender your sword to our most junior stablehand's cheapest bar wench. All VC teams will depart and transfer out of Chimlevtal. And last, since your newly recruited clones want to run their mouths: The Crying Cartel will pay a tribute of 15,000 tons of gold per month to High Lord Bosk, Polar Bear and myself for 15 years. This is more than you deserve, but it is a new year and we are being generous. If you and your puppets start lipping off in the personals, it will just get worse for you. Accept it and be silent, little mageling. -- The Icelord Bobby Bigfoot -- I would have liked to see Pekko get #6. -- The Icelord Slugbait -- Thanks. -- The COL VooDoo -- Welcome to Chimlevtal. Hopefully you haven't bought into the bull that Manager Darque shovels to all his new alliance members. I am sure he told you something that would convince you to ride into our fair city and fight his battle for him. He is a coward and likes to dish it out but can't take it. That seems to be a requirement to be a member of the Crying Cartel. I would hope you would independently analyze the facts before you come into this city and start talking about kicking anyone's butt. Blaze your own trail, do not make your legacy as yet another blind follower of Darque and his failed ambitions. -- Duke Gorlois The Scribe -- Hope you're feeling better. Lord Protector Krac D'Chevaliers of The Stormguards and Lord Protector Ve of The Lord of Valhalla volunteer for this mission. -- The Icelord Has anyone played RSI's "Forgotten Realms?" if so, any thoughts? -- The Icelord Ma Barker -- How could someone who never stopped talking learn five skills? Not that I grudge them to you, ma'am, but still. -- Mendal Omshil Cherry 2000 -- There are too many of you. -- Kambard Murh P.S. But very attractive for someone with such a temper. Rauni -- Hmm. The boss says she's GLAD I fought you and lost to you, and she's going to make a note of your name "just in case." I'd worry if I was you. -- Les Nayle P.S. I don't think she'll actually DO anything at this point, but she "likes to be prepared." Hmm. Strategy changes would be a good kind of preparation.... Alt -- You whammoed me, and you thuddaed me, and then you compared me unfavorably to a rubber duckie. I don't think I made a good impression.... -- Jo Ludan Calleight -- How about if I don't. How about if I just callseven or something? -- Norgen Pelh P.S. I hate being the trailer in an oh-fer turn. I get all the blame, and most unfairly, too! All -- Respect The Dead played hard, so they parted hard too. Got so drunk that they missed a fight. We also found Dave Falconhand with Uresia and Ophelia. Way to go, my man. We won't miss any more. That's all. -- Voodoo All -- Well, well, I'm leaving this place and going to challenge the DA. I have faith that I'll win and go on to bigger and better things. -- Uresia 25 February 2004 Readers, and especially those who volunteered warriors -- My apologies for the sudden lack of episodes. I've been sick, but expect to be back at the keyboard soon. -- the Scribe 3 March 2004 MONGO'S MARDI GRAS MADNESS DUELMASTERS AUCTION Mongo, aka Matt McIntosh and ex-Warden of the Dark Circle, is auctioning off his entire collection of Duelmasters warriors and stables. Don't miss out on this chance to own some fantastic warriors! There are ADM warriors available in every class from Primus to Freshmen, as well as over a dozen Basic stables. Does a Slasher with +4 attack, +4 decisiveness, +3 initiative and +2 riposte sound good? How about a Lunger who received the benefit of a TC prize, has TVed three times after graduating--and still hasn't maxed out his skills!? How about a Striker in the Freshmen class who has decisiveness for a favorite learn and the MAUL for a favorite weapon!? Or perhaps you prefer playing in Basic. Then how does a stable with four Adept class warriors who have a combined record of 41-19-9 sound? Or maybe a stable with three 21-Will warriors? Or perhaps a stable with four Initiates and a Rookie who have a combined record of 23-6-1? The quality of the lots is excellent. All you need to view and bid on the lots is go to: http://members.aol.com/jvmerlino/mardigras.html If you want to be on the mailing list to receive regular updates on the auction, just send an e-mail to JVMerlino@aol.com. Merlin, aka John Merlino and also an ex- Warden of the Dark Circle, will be running this auction for me. I just moved to New Orleans and am likely currently stumbling around the French Quarter...because it's Mardi Gras! So I have named my auction in honor of this occasion. The auction will start on Saturday, March 13th, 2004, and will continue for several weeks. But you should get your bids in early if you want your best chance at owning any of these fantastic warriors and stables. Many thanks to all for your interest and your bids, Mongo 5 March 2004 Style Masters Symposium Hosted by Hammer The years have slipped by and many DM Managers have come and gone since the last Hammer's Handbook was compiled and printed. There is now a stirring within me to begin writing and editing yet another Handbook with a distribution date sometime in 2005. This Handbook will be made available via Email with a possibility of burning the info to a CD for distribution. Special arrangements will be made to provide the information via printed page to those contributors who are serving sentences behind bars. The working title of this new Handbook is "Style Masters Symposium Hosted by Hammer". Distribution of this Handbook is projected to be MAINLY for those DM Managers who contribute information/articles to Hammer by June 2004.
