TEAM SPOTLIGHT
It was a dark and stormy night.
This was not uncommon on the shore of the Storm Sea, but it seemed unusually
ominous tonight. There seemed to be voices in the storm, and Shau'nin Snowbeard,
adviser to Lord Kinnishan, did not like what they were saying. He leaned on the
parapet of the tower and stared eastward, into the lightning-blasted heart of the
storm.
"What do you see?"
Snowbeard glanced over his shoulder at Kinnishan. "I am not sure. Sometimes I
see... strange ships, unlike any known to me. Or monstrous creatures. At other
times, waves. Nothing but waves."
The ruler of Chimlevtal was silent for a while, sharing his contemplation of the
storm. "There is a saying on the waterfront," he said finally, "that the storms
which fall close to the year's quarter-days are different from other storms. That
they sometimes stir deeps that are better left alone, or open gates that should
remain shut."
"I could believe it of this one," the old councillor said.
Kinnishan turned to scan across the sleeping city and the harbor. There were
lights flickering around the arena on the other side of the harbor, greenish and
unstable, like echoes of the lightning. He opened his mouth to draw Snowbeard's
attention to them.
Somewhere below, a woman screamed. City and storm froze briefly to listen to
the echoes.
In the sudden silence, a door closed, solid and heavy.
The rain came down in a sudden wall of water.

Well, what are you looking at, CHIMLEVTAL? Ain't you never seen Snide Clemens
before? Ah, shaddup and listen to my news. If The Mourngrym Inn and Tavern is
buying drinks for WHAMMO & THUDDA 4 U!'s good turn, I'm afraid the place will be dry
before long. A 4-1-0 makes for a big thirst. With any luck, I can sneak into The
Mourngrym Inn and Tavern and join THE CANUCKS' celebration over their good record
this turn. 5th place, not bad. If The Mourngrym Inn and Tavern is buying drinks for
KOSMOS'S MATRIX's good turn, I'm afraid the place will be dry before long. A 3-2-1
makes for a big thirst. Oh, this is too good to be true! SOL INVICTUS has fallen to
21st place after going 1-3-0 this turn. Who's bragging now? Of course, we're all
terribly impressed to see GENERAL PUBLIC win a fight and gain 33 points, terribly.
Tsk, tsk, PSYCH MAJOR beat GOT HAMMERED and GOT HAMMERED lost 15 points. You're
breakin' my heart. Due to absence, and inability to defend the throne, BUSTER BUNNY
has lost the Title of Duelmaster. Start setting that alarm earlier! And it's out
with the old, in with the new, as GENERAL PUBLIC takes the Title and last week's bar
tab from the old Duelmaster. Heh, heh. Kickbacks and bribes, kickbacks and bribes,
how else do you think some of these guys win their fights? Skill? Ha!
He who fights and runs away will live to fight another day, the coward. WHY DID
I DO IT, I suppose you'll be glad to know you were this turn's most avoided team.
Care to know who is the most afraid of you? And who led the way in this mass act of
cowardice? Let's see, well, whatcha know? It was THE STORMGUARDS. Ha ha ha ha!
Ooh, I'm frightfully impressed, JOPPA was this turn's most challenged warrior. Watch
that ego swell, sports fans. Now here's guts and stupidity all rolled into one,
TORNADO challenged up 43 to take on NAPULAK of STORMWATCH. And The Mourngrym Inn and
Tavern has banned NAPULAK from service until next turn for losing to TORNADO and
giving him 29 points in the process! Ha! ROMAN KARMA was challenged by one of SOL
INVICTUS' warriors this turn, with HORAGALLES having a lead of 21 points going into
the fight. Ha ha aha ha aha ha!!! HORAGALLES was was bested by by KOSMOS'S MATRIX's
warrior! Thank the gods for big favors! ha! I guess I can give a little credit to
CALLEIGHT of THE NIGHTHAWKS for challenging up by 22 to HELM HAMMERHAND. CALLEIGHT
lost to get 56 points of recognition. And we have FAOLAN AP GRYFFYDD in a challenge,
going down 15 points for the fight. Guess what? I thought FAOLAN AP GRYFFYDD showed
great skill and promise when he won victory over AI. All right, so I slept through
it! Big deal!
Some people like volunteer work in the hospitals. I volunteer for CHIMLEVTAL's
morgue. More variety. And what a stunning loss we have here, boys and girls, RYUU
DRAGONMASTER of STORMWATCH has added the final loss to his 5-4-0. Tee hee! Not that
I'll be buying the drinks, but I'll be glad to see VOMITO and WHAMMO & THUDDA 4 U!
at The Mourngrym Inn and Tavern tonight celebrating their bloodfeud victory over
BRILLIANT ORANGE. Titanium shields and bamboo daggers, guess what brave team is
developing these kinds of weapons?
There's got to be a better place in CHIMLEVTAL to get a drink than The Mourngrym
Inn and Tavern! Any suggestions? Just wait 'till next time I show up here, I won't
