Yes, it is me! Voca De Florida! Seeker of all gossip (hand to ear), Digger of old outhouses (pew!). You never know where the truth shall lie or be hidden! (grin) Good citizens of Chimlevtal, I have heard some of the rumors (hee hee) going around and will only tell you the truth of the matter! On pain of...my writing hand. Who on the "Council of Lords" is dealing with these Dark Knights? Why? Is the question being asked. No declaration of war against the C.O.L. Citizens, an invading army is at war with all, in our good city. Unless we are missing the bigger picture! Has the C.O.L. finally tired of being outnumbered? Or is it all a ruse, Darque Forces and Dark Knights? Don't ask me, not just yet. Yes, I heard this Johan Johan sing, even though I thought his clothes looked real tight! What do I know about fashion. You never know where I will turn up. Thanks Manic...oops. "Who is this," Wasby? Or is it Osiris? There was some confusion among some of the Dark Knights on this matter. Don't ask me. My head is still reeling from all the wine and smoke. What is this or who is this Dark Knight Goat? An old VC member, now fighting against his old alliance. I even hear that this Goat has bought land here in Chimlevtal. He plans on staying! Of course, leave it to me "Voca De Florida" to find the facts for my fan club. Who is this General Toker? I have heard he spends more time with Maxi...I mean a bong than managing his warriors. Hopefully this is not a sign of the type of management that this Young Dumb Alliance is under. Come on, you guys and gals. What are you thinking? I myself have always favored the home team. Now don't take this wrong good citizens of this fine region. How many times has some young gunslingers (narrowed eyes) come into our backyard and had their butts handed back to them by our Defenders of our fine city of Chimlevtal. While I am on the subject of the Cartel...Master Darque, we know YOU can answer the challenge. But half your running mates are under 50%...maybe the folk of Chimlevtal don't want to point this out. But me being "Voca De Florida," the people's voice, will remind you that the time for peace is past with these young pups. You must crush them on the sands and in the personals! By the way, "I" would not lie. This Desolate Empire has been pounding a mud puddle in you guys, then walking it dry in the p-ads. Now they are showing up in force at whose call? Blackstorm! What did you have to do to earn your title of Dark Knight Blackstorm? Why are you and Maxi going at it? I hope you know what you have done. Breaking up a fine relationship with Maxi getting all the property, even I don't believe that! So, you guys, let's stop all this V.ocal C.owards name calling (I heard this at the Rusted Cutlass) and save it for the sands. I have never seen the Cartel ask for any kind of truce. No. I can't remember who said it. (I never give my sources up.) Can the V.C. fight a war with two alliances with nothing in common but to trash and murder the Defenders of Chimlevtal...? Trust me on this people. I, "Voca De Florida," will stop at nothing to report the truth and gossip of our fine city. Until next month, remember, "I tell no lies." Voca De Florida + ]H[ + ---:--- + ]H[ A Tale of Two Cities #16 ]H[ + ---:--- + ]H[ + Muirona turned her shell boat to move in the direction indicated by The Icelord. "There are no islands in this part of the sea," she said when the course was set. "It will take us days to reach the other shore on this line." The Icelord tested his perception of the enemy. "He is not days away. An hour or two at the most." "A ship? If he sees us coming, he can move away, possibly faster than we can pursue him." "Do not take council of your fears," The Icelord said. "Our enemy, one or many, will not see us coming until he can use the eyes of the body to do so, and not soon then. He or they will not escape. I guarantee that." "You can do this?" Muirona stared at him for a moment, then waved a graceful hand in apology. "I am not doubting you, that was just surprise. I had not realized you were a master of illusion... or whatever form of magic you are using. I do not ask or seek to know secrets. But... what we pursue, then, cannot be the actual Gate used by the enemy to bring the monsters here. A Gate must be founded on land, it cannot stand on water or in the air." The Icelord shrugged. "I do not know the special conditions of magic in this world of yours, but I know that what we seek lies ahead, and at no great distance." He narrowed his eyes, considering the recent encounter. "I don't think that leviathan could have been controlled at a great distance." "Or that it had come a great distance from its home waters," the Prince of Ar commented. He frowned, trying to put reasons to his conviction. "Something that big, people would have noticed. It would have tried to eat someone else, had other fights, showed wounds or fresh scars." Tempus had been following the flight of a bird with his eyes. Now he said, "Land ho!" There was a door at the bottom of the twisting stair, and red light shone through the cracks all around it. "We'll have to go through quickly and shut it," Molly said, "or it will act like a chimney and make everything worse!" "Yes, I know." High Lord Bosk raised his sword. "You handle the door, I'll go through first and defend the position while you close it again." "Right." Molly turned back to the door and did something. Over the storm of noise beyond, or maybe under the noises, he heard mechanisms click and grind the door opened toward them. As soon as the space at the edge was wide enough, he darted through. The noise was a wall of shouting and screaming and roaring flames and metal-on- metal clangor and other sounds he couldn't separate from the mass of it. The heat was a wall, pressing against him and weighing him down, scorching his lungs and his eyeballs. The light came mostly from the far side of the chamber, red as flames. This door was in the shadow of the great cooling tower, but the shadow was not true darkness, too much light reflected back and forth through the cavern. He could see people running toward the attack, and others staggering back dragging bodies or helping the walking wounded. The floor was littered with bits of bodies and armor and broken weapons. Molly was at his shoulder. "We can be of most help at the tower," she said, leaning close enough to be heard. "This chamber can't be held," Bosk yelled back at her. "No tactical possibilities, unless the attackers can be forced back into the tunnel they came up." "If they couldn't hold them in the tunnel before, they can't drive them back," Molly said, working her way toward the tower through the heaving crowd. There were fights here as well as people trying to help the wounded or simply flee. Something the size and shape of a dwarf, but with bristles instead of hair and crazed red eyes, ran toward him, ululating and waving an axe in either hand. Bosk measured distances with a glance, swept his sword outward, lopping off the leading axe--and hand--with a single blow, then gutting the thing on the backstroke. Or trying to, it was wearing body armor of incredible quality, so that his sword rebounded and he had to dance three quick steps to the other side to keep his feet. Blood was pumping from the stump of the severed wrist, but this wasn't slowing the creature down. Molly came past him at a run, holding a spear she must have found on the floor here and aiming at the thing's unprotected face. The other axe whirled toward her. Bosk amputated that hand, also, and then her spear entered the creature's eye, and it bellowed and collapsed. Molly came closer and smashed the skull with a one-handed sledgehammer. Bosk raised an eyebrow at that but didn't have time to ask questions. He was too busy watching in all directions. Where there had been one enemy, there could be more. "There can't be land here!" Muirona stared across the sea in consternation. "I know this area, I've seen the charts and I've sailed this end of the Middle Sea often. This is not possible!" "And yet there is land before us," The Icelord said. "It is not illusion." He studied their destination. It looked like a mountain top, or a dark iceberg. They were still too far away from clear details, but he thought there were trees, or something similar, on the lower slopes. "The Gate we seek is here, on this island." "Then there will be enemies on it," Tempus said. He and the Prince of Ar began to check over their weapons. Muirona shivered in the hot sunlight. "Yes." She touched her sail-tree with one fingertip. The little shell's speed dropped so that it was no longer raising a curl of white water ahead of itself, or trailing a lacy wake of foam. They were still approaching the dark island, but at a more deliberate pace. "Where...?" She swallowed twice. "Where do you want to land?" "Wherever we can," The Icelord answered. "A beach with a way inland would be good." He looked at the island doubtfully. It seemed to be all mass of dark cliffs, high ledges. Something moved on one of the high shelves of stone, but it was dark against a dark ground, and covered by shadows. "The sun is behind us," Tempus said, "but everything we see is in shadow. That isn't natural." "It isn't natural for there to be an island here," Muirona snapped back. "Why should anything else about it be natural?" "Half in this world, half in some other," The Icelord said. "Perhaps this is how the Gate works, by merging two locations in different worlds." "That isn't how it is SUPPOSED to work!" Muirona protested. "It should be like a... door. Or a gate in a wall. Something that can be controlled, something where the access can be controlled." "That is how your people would do it," The Icelord answered. "Most other people also. But these Brothers of Darkness may have different spells and techniques." "There," the Prince of Ar said, pointing. "Looks like... hmm, not a beach, exactly, but maybe a ledge near the water's surface?" "Like the lower, submerged end of stair in the rock," Tempus added. "Probably our best bet for landing." Bosk felt like he'd been fighting for hours by the time they reached the cooling tower. That was probably not true, he knew the effect of combat on the perceived passage of time. He was uninjured. He thought Molly might have a few minor cuts, but most of the blood that soaked her clothes had come from other bodies, most of them enemy bodies. The space behind them was clearing out, at least of the living. There were plenty of dead, both of her people and of the enemy's "lesser" troops. And nothing in front of them but the cooling tower, with the last defenders, the fire trolls, and whatever that other monster was beyond it. Well, probably more of the enemy sword-fodder, too. Bosk took the minute's pause to wipe his sword clean with a piece of cloak he found discarded on the floor. It was quieter, this close under the shelter of the cooling tower. He turned to Molly. "You still doing okay?" She nodded. "Tired, though." She took a deep breath, coughed on the smoke, took another, more carefully. "I'm okay. I can keep going." "Better to," Bosk said, "or you'll stiffen up." He moved toward one side of the tower's shadow, peering into the contested area beyond it. There were not a lot of defenders left that he could see. "They won't last much longer," he muttered. "They have to," Molly said beside him. "We haven't gotten the all-clear signal yet--it'll be a whistle, and we will be able to hear it anywhere over anything, telling us that the evacuation is complete. We have to hold the tower until then." Bosk frowned. He liked a good fight, but this was not a good one. Time it was ended. This was an enemy that should be met on some other ground. "We'll help them hold it, then--as long as we can. But there's no value to throwing away lives for no advantage." "Saving the rest of the population is advantage enough!" "And we'll do it," Bosk agreed grimly. "But the price is rising too fast. Let's go see if we can change the rules a little." The shell-boat came to a stop when it was still ten feet out from the edge of the water. Though it was midday a hundred yards behind them, the island was deep in twilight, so that details were difficult to make out. "If it wasn't black," Tempus said, squinting, "I'd call it an iceberg for sure. Those shapes are just what you get in old ice sculptured by wind and sun." "It's going to be hard to climb," the Prince of Ar said. The shell rocked once, twice, three times, with a small crunching sound. "We are grounded," Muirona said. "This is as far as we can go by water." She looked over the side, lip curling a little in distaste. "We'll have to wade to get ashore." She gathered up the skirts of her robes, exposing a well-shaped pair of ankles, and moved closer to the edge, reluctantly. The Icelord hid a smile and stepped over and into the water. It was scarcely knee deep on a tall man, but icy cold. The cold did not bother him. He held out his hand. Muirona took it and half-stepped, half-jumped out of the shell, yelping at the chill. There was no splash, however, which seemed... odd. The two gladiators followed. Tempus looked around. "Shall we drag the boat farther in, just in case?" The Icelord turned to Muirona. "Will it drift away if left unattended? Does it come if you call it?" "I..." she hesitated and swallowed once, "I would normally not worry about it," she said. Her voice was barely more than a whisper. "But this place is... strange. I do not know if the shell will stay here, or return having left." "We'll bring it farther up, then." Tempus and the Prince of Ar each laid hold of it, one on either side, and started toward the shoreline. The Icelord moved ahead of them, Muirona behind him. The bottom seemed firm and unreliable at the same time, sharp shifting pebbles, but on a firm foundation. The slope up out of the water was smooth; he had suspected potholes or other irregularities, but there were none. As they approached the looming cliff, a current of cold air flowed down and past them, a waterfall of cold air. Muirona's teeth were chattering by the time they stepped out onto the pebbly beach. "This is completely unnatural," she said. "I KNOW this area, there should be no island, and nothing this cold!" "Tempus was correct," The Icelord said. "This is an iceberg, however it got here, whatever the reason for its color." "I have heard of icebergs," Muirona said, bending to wring out the lower part of her robes. "But I've never seen one. You're sure the color is unnatural? Darkness is cold, after all." "We're sure," The Icelord said. He was examining the cliff that fronted on their little beach. Up close, he could see irregularities that had been hidden by the lack of light. There was actually a path of sorts going up, switching back and forth in steep, uneven slants and ledges. What he had thought might be trees before... was no longer visible. There was nothing but bare dark ice above, so far as he could see in this twilight. But there would be, eventually, something living and hostile. "No point in delay," he said. "This looks like the most passable route to the top." The Prince of Ar stepped forward. "Let me lead the way, and Tempus bring up the rear," he said. "That sort of thing's our job, neither of us can do magic." The Icelord shrugged, a little amused, a little annoyed--they knew he wasn't helpless. But it was the right move on the part of the two gladiators, the best way they could be of use here. Ar drew a dagger and tapped it on the dark ice, tried driving the point in two or three times. Finally he nodded. "We can use daggers as pitons if we have to," he said. "Let's hope we don't have to," Tempus answered. Ar set his foot on the first upward slope, shifted his weight experimentally, and nodded again. He started climbing. The Icelord came next, then Muirona, and Tempus at the rear. It was cold and silent on the path, and the twilight neither deepened nor thinned. A wind flowed down the face of the cliff, cold as a glacier. The movement of the air was smooth; if it had been turbulent, it might have thrown them off the path. There was no indication on the ice that others had walked this way, except that there was a path worn here at all. No footprints, no wisps of hair caught on a rough edge because there were no rough edges, nothing that might have been dropped by a traveler. Just the ice. Something hooted above them, once, then several times, the sound mixed with crashing and cracking noises. The Icelord did not waste time looking up and trying to see what was happening there, he knew. Someone was throwing rocks--or boulders of ice--down on them. He spoke two words and raised his hand over his head, extending the other to the side. The air shimmered around it. The first boulder arrived and bounced off the shield he had established. He grunted a little at the impact. The shield would prevent a direct hit, but the kinetic energy involved was considerable. Some was deflected along the curving surface of magical force, but some of it... was not deflected. There was always a price to pay in such a situation. More boulders followed, and smaller "stones," a little avalanche. The shield would protect him and his companions from being crushed under the falling blocks of ice, but he could still be driven off the path by the repeated jolts. Then he felt the gladiators bracing him physically, as well as the narrow path allowed. Good men. He shifted the angle and shape of his barrier, turning it from a shield into a ram, and slammed it upward into and beyond the avalanche. Debris cascaded around them without coming close enough to cause damage; even configured as a ram, the forcefield protected them. He felt it hit something that was not ice. Resistance. Conflict. It was not physical boulders but magical spears that probed his shield now. The Icelord bared his teeth in a predator's grin and reached with his mind for the loose chunks of ice that were prepared for throwing. Drew them smashing together at the origin-point of the spears. A howl of rage, a howl of pain. He pressed the ram higher. Against fierce resistance, and then... nothing. He staggered a little as the spell shield-and-ram was abruptly hurtling through nothing. Something screamed, inhuman and terrible. Darkness tumbled downward, screaming, struck the path just above them, bounced, and kept falling. If it hit the beach or the water below, no sound came back to tell them. SPY REPORT Well, what are you looking at, CHIMLEVTAL? Ain't you never seen Snide Clemens before? Ah, shaddup and listen to my news. Later days, CLUB DV8, since CON KNIGHTS took top team from you this turn, you guys are old news. With any luck, I can sneak into The Mourngrym Inn and Tavern and join CISUM S. EKARD's celebration over their good record this turn. 9th place, not bad. If The Mourngrym Inn and Tavern is buying drinks for THE HUNTSMEN's good turn, I'm afraid the place will be dry before long. A 3-2-0 makes for a big thirst. Look out below! CHAMPIONS OF RUNE is on the way down, falling to 18th from 6th with a 1-4-0! Ha ha ha ha! With any luck, I can sneak into The Mourngrym Inn and Tavern and join HOPLITES' celebration over their good record this turn. 23rd place, not bad. If The Mourngrym Inn and Tavern is buying drinks for CRIMSON BLADE's good turn, I'm afraid the place will be dry before long. A 3-0-0 makes for a big thirst. Why not, I'm having a good day, so I feel sorry for NUMBERS GAME, who went 0-2-0 and dropped 13 into 30th. Here's my pity, for what it's worth. Gee, I'm impressed, a 4-1-0 is nice, but don't get cocky, LORDS OF VALHALLA, the Fates teach humility, and the Fates are proud. Of course, we're all terribly impressed to see NORGEN PELH win a fight and gain 25 points, terribly. Tsk, tsk, NORGEN PELH beat UNZOE THE SHAMAN and UNZOE THE SHAMAN lost 31 points. You're breakin' my heart. And it's out with the old, in with the new, as DAMHAIN THE SATYR takes the Title and last week's bar tab from the old Duelmaster. Heh, heh. The Mourngrym Inn and Tavern, humph! I've tasted better ale at mortuaries. Where do they get this stuff? From CHIMLEVTAL's trash dumps? Well, let's take a look at some more misdeeds of you miserable sword-boys. CHIMLEVTAL, I am losing what little hope I had in you. CLUB DV8 the most avoided team? What insult will suffice, I cannot say. And who led the way in this mass act of cowardice? Let's see, well, whatcha know? It was THE STORMGUARDS. Ha ha ha ha! Ooh, I'm frightfully impressed, STILETTO was this turn's most challenged warrior. Watch that ego swell, sports fans. Now look at this. HEAVEN challenged down 20 against THE ANIMALS' GORILLA. What a weasel! Question now is, will CHIMLEVTAL accept this sort of tacky behavior? HEAVEN beating GORILLA. The insult, the....yech! I notice ULTHAR STORMHELM challenging down 32 points to fight THORN ELEMENTAL, THE STORMGUARDS doubtless has some rotten excuse for such an insult to honor. And golly gee, ULTHAR STORMHELM overcame THORN ELEMENTAL. Aren't we all surprised and impressed? Ah, now we come to my favorite part, where we see all the guys who are dead and gone, and get to see if their team cared. Gee, DEVIL'S MAYHEM, ain't it past due for sending COLOSSUS'S FIRE Dark Arena? What took ol' '6-5-0' so long? Hope? Ha ha aha ha! Now hey, I like to see a death as much as the next guy, but hey BLACKGUARD, whyja send ASH GOLEM to the Dark Arena, look at its record, huh? Seriously now, is it really honorable for WARDO BARD from BUSHMASTERS to kill ORIN GREYLOCKS and give THE HUNTSMEN the chance to bloodfeud? Mmmm, could be. Not that I'll be buying the drinks, but I'll be glad to see WARDO BARD and BUSHMASTERS at The Mourngrym Inn and Tavern tonight celebrating their bloodfeud victory over ORIN GREYLOCKS. We're all going to die in the end, so why worry if the fate catches up with you sooner that later? What does the CHIMLEVTAL arena have in common with the inns? It's just as comfortable to sleep in either place. Ha ha ha ha! Well, I've had enough of this drivel, and I'm sure you have too. Off like a dirty shirt of padded leather. Paste this one in your scrapbooks, you'll need the kindling come this winter-- Snide Clemens DUELMASTER W L K POINTS TEAM NAME DAMHAIN THE SATYR 5197 26 11 0 121 OVERLORDS (509) CHALLENGER CHAMPIONS W L K POINTS TEAM NAME -11TH COMMANDMENT 5453 8 7 1 113 NUMBERS GAME (403) AIRBORNE 4729 23 11 2 112 PLATOON (513) -FALCATA 5405 12 5 1 111 SOL INVICTUS (469) CINNIMON ROLLE 5553 9 3 1 111 ALL NIGHT LONG (570) SVEIN FORKBEARD 5187 21 17 2 110 LORDS OF VALHALLA (508) NORGEN PELH 5042 15 27 0 108 MIDDLE WAY 7 (536) RETAEH T. Anyone who backs the Vendetta Cartel should either give their resignation, or consider themselves ejected from TCB. -- Baphomet, Founder of TCB Liam -- You opened up this can of wyrms. I hadn't intended to challenge your team out of respect for our former association. However, you saw fit to challenge mine and thus...prepare for a can of "whoop butt." -- Baphomet, mgr. Circus Maximus Buddy Lee -- Might I suggest you decide where your loyalties lie. -- Baphomet Sensei Jan -- Looks like the only thing running is your mouth. After the attacks on the forum of a personal nature, and then disrespecting me in the pm's...it's only natural that I kick the crap out of you in the arena. If you decide to show your cowardly behind in Chimlevtal, or any other arena that I am in...it'll be the same. True, your score vs. me is higher...but...try it now, wench. I dare you!!! -- Baphomet Toker -- FYI...Liam resigned from TCB. He's an open target. -- Baphomet COL -- You don't have to point the direction...I'm on my way. -- Baphomet Blackstorm -- Looks like this is gonna be like shooting traps. Now, pull my finger (snicker). -- Baphomet Realizing we are mere bottom feeders, how does one participate in this war or whatever? Do we need to join an alliance? How? Or do we just fight and get fought? -- The Con Knights Stik -- Well, at least somebody's panties got bunched! What kind of pansy suck-up arena do we have here, anyway? Tourney prep? Bah, humbug. -- Sir Steel The Icelord and High Lord Bosk -- It appears the Cartel has collapsed. It was long overdue. I raise my goblet and my axe to all those who opposed them over the years. There is sure to be a rowdy time at The Rusted Cutlass tonight. <cracking knuckles> I'm ready. Eternal glory to The Council of Lords! -- RTR Dark Knights of The Desolate Empire -- You guys show up and suddenly the Cartel falls apart! Pretty funny. Well, I'm up for some swilling and wenching. Should be an all-nighter at The Rusted Cutlass. After we drink that one dry, it's off to The Winking Wench! Let's keep this arena rocking! -- RTR Senseless Jan -- It was no surprise you were kicked out of the Cartel. Beat it, loser! -- RTR Kats -- You may continue to bus the tables at the Rusted Cutlass, but only on the graveyard shift. Carry on. -- RTR Apex -- I'm still looking forward to mixing it up with you. I respect a guy who takes a fist in the face and then gets up swinging a busted beer bottle! -- RTR Guardian -- Try to close this arena down, loser. -- RTR D. K. Osiris -- Good to see you in the arena. Never seems to be a dull moment around here! -- RTR The Icelord -- Well struck, Mi'Lord! Was indeed a feasting and swilling event with the Great Barbarian visiting from the north. Would have been a true event if you and Raul were here. Tal and est sularis oth mithas! -- High Lord Bosk Dark Knights -- Bad news, there is no more VC. Either we scared em so bad they didn't even want to play, or they knew they didn't stand a chance. What do we do now? -- DK Blackstorm Apex -- That was just nasty. Taking advantage of leaving the VC to razz us eh? -- DK Blackstorm P.S. A "set" of lego blocks is already dismantled. Kat -- We seem to match up often enough anyway. -- DK Blackstorm Kolum Marod -- You couldn't handle me even if you tried. I'm too hardcore for you. -- Unholy Temptress Max -- "Is this close enough," says Blackstorm, tightening his grip on the WH concealed behind his back.... Will get back ASAP. I have been super busy lately. It looks as if the Crying Cartel is no more. We shall see. Good hunting! -- The Icelord The Council of Lords are proud to present Chimlevtal History Facts: On turn #90 (12/5/92)there were 51 teams listed in Chimlevtal. They were: Les Knights Erant, The Stormguards, Silver Blades, Les Gaulois, Dagarath Guards, Foreign Legion, Stellar Express, The Bloodguard, Enforcers, Sea Rats, Team Supreme!!!, The Major Arcana, True Brits, Energeia, The Inner Sphere, Bushmasters, Latin Overtones, Muslim Fanatics, Loony Toons, Avengers, The Spice Pack, South of Heaven, Meat Cleavers, Black Company, Ragnarok's Revenge, Knights of War, Jabbas Children, Beat These, Vicious Hatred, The RW Killers, The Girls Club, Bad News Bees, The Barbarians, Mostly Music, Junkyard Dogs, Metal Militia, Damage Inc., The Nighthawks, Gold Tiger, Salmatious, Mercenary Force, The Dead, Death Inc., Sun, Hell Mounties, Thornbirds, The Bashers, A Touch More, Legion of Doom, Were Wolves and Conquerors. The Duelmaster was Yosemite Sam of Loony Toons, a 20-15 Total Parry. Toker -- No explanations needed. Besides, most of that is history at this point, and I'm sure I'll be reading about the 'forced dissolution' and 'capitulation' of the former Vendetta Cartel. It will be onerous, vociferous, and dreadfully boring--but it will come nonetheless. -- Kat, Mgr. 'Club DV8' Max -- Over/under on VC mentions = 25. -- Kat Wardo Bard -- Wow, the way you handled me, I can just IMAGINE you you'd deal with a bush! And now that the topic arises...I happen to HAVE a bush that needs some serious mastery asserted over it. Do you make house calls? It would have to be soon, or the damned bush will probably EAT the house. -- Kolum Marod Forinpolitix -- Ah, if I've mastered you, does that make me ready for Domessticpolitix? Could be trickier, since Domessticpolitix knows where I buried the bodies, or can make a good guess. Maybe I'll sit this one out after all. I don't think I want to be dog-catcher QUITE that much. -- Loden Norvis Edom -- You win, what a surprise, you hussy. As you can see, I'm more of a "make love, not war" kind of guy. Banging around a girl isn't my bag. Neither is being banged around by one. I will take care not to put you on my list of "likely dates." -- Les Nayle Retaeh T. Maerd -- I just can't seem to get the hang of fighting backwards. It's too tricky. Sounds a little like what the Kung-Fu Master does, when he's always getting "hit on the arm by the parry." Of course, he often manages to make it work, and I suppose I might be able to, also, but then again, what if I don't WANT to get hit on the arm? At last you spread your blows around. You hit my parry repeatedly.... (sigh) Wind sprints for me. -- Norgen Pelh Damhain the Satyr -- Well, damn. I kinda thought YOU were one of the "make love, not war" brigade, but ouchie! You are one mean dude. -- Mendal Omshil Greetings, fair arena! A new manager stalks among you. I am the Crypt Keeper. I am the new owner and manager of the team known as Hoplites. I see there are many teams here so I expect the fighting to be tough...but I will try my best!!!! So c'mon mein brothers, let's get it on! 25 September 2006 It is obvious that the Dark Knights wish to be shown the light. Allow me to step forward and blind them with truth. YOU ARE WORTHLESS!!! The Dark Knights are so afraid of the light that they hide behind their black armor and empty threats. It is too bad they are unwilling to actually FIGHT us! I guess our natural light is too bright for you all to face! Fear us, for we are here! -- Gemini Goldphoenix, Overlord of the Avengers of Light! 5 October 2006 *Turf War IV Rules* Everyone may participate; known alliances, new alliances, or temporary alliances created to compete in the Turf War! No declarations or verifications will be accepted after Turn 10 of the Turf War 5. 7. For the purpose of scoring, I reserve the right to make all final decisions. Scoring: Win Loss Kill Die Challenge +2 -2 +5 -5 Match-Up +1 -1 +1 -5 Bloodfeud +2 -5 +5 -10 Champion x2 x2 x2 x2 Downchallenge -10 xx -10 xx Dark Arena +10 -5 xx xx Special Scoring: a. Each mention in the Spy Report is worth 2 points (team mentions only!) b. Each Style Master is worth 2 points. c. Duelmaster Throne is worth 2 points Champions: a. Champions may be declared, but are not mandatory. If declared, the Champion must be in the Adepts or lower brackets on the turn they are declared without having gone above the Adepts bracket at any time...including transferred teams. (I'll be watching for this occurrence!) Bloodfeuds: a. Bloodfeuds count for all four (4) turns. However, the same warrior may not be used all four turns. 4 turns means 4 separate warriors. A penalty of -10 will be given to the team who violates this. Special Conditions: a. I reserve the right for all final decisions. b. If I make a mistake, I'll multiply the points by 2. c. If you claim I did, and *YOU* are wrong, I'll subtract points at the rate of x10. d. Each alliance begins with zero (0) points. e. Dark Arena may be used on the first turn of every warrior with no penalty (this means a warrior with 0 FE). f. TVs won after the contest begins gain a 25 point one time score once the tourney reports are posted in the NL. g. TCs won after the contest begins gain a 50 point one time score with the same conditions as noted for TVs. h. NO switching alliance once verified by an alliance that a team has declared for. i. Only 7 teams are permitted per alliance for the Turf War 5. PRIZES: Turf Wars are a "Winner Takes All" type contest. All prizes and 100% of the RU Certs will be given to the Captain of the winning alliance and it is his/her responsibility to give these to the alliance membership. I have requested from RSI the following: a. renaming of the orth Fork (DM 47) arena; b. renaming of Dark Arena Monsters; c. known favourite rhythms for one warrior on each team of the winning alliance. This warrior would be in the Initiates or above brackets on the last turn of the Turf War (they must have at least one arena fight to receive this award). Baphomet, Host of TW5 Special Note: A downchallenge is considered from a higher bracket to a lower bracket. Same bracket, more recognition points? Not a downchallenge! 20 October 2006 In accordance with those rules set forth by the Lady of the Realm, I hereby announce the formation of a small group of managers calling themselves "The Outsiders". The group consists of the following members: Doc LeGrande Apex Street Legal Carnage Ghoti Roadkill Valamond This group has only one rule. Respect the play of the managers of this alliance. We have no worries about not playing by the rules set forth by others. We fight the way we like, and all those in this group appreciate what tools each manager brings. We have managers from the Delarquan, Andorian and Free Blade regions. We have managers that focus on the tournament arenas, and we have those that focus on the regular city arenas. We have those in our ranks that fight with honor and respect for all, and we have those that have a bloodlust that cannot be quenched. Our goal is simple. To create a ensemble of managers that will show their prowess in the land of Alastari, and to bring a new level of competition to all those that share the sands with our warriors. Our warriors are many throughout the land. We have no home arena. We have no pacts we abide by. Our fighters range from Mordant to Talcama, from Lapur to Lyratilan, Aruak City to Valamantis, the Primus arena to Talahya, and many more arenas throughout the land. Whether we are sought out or ignored makes no difference to us. We are what we are. We fight how we fight. And we do it however we wish. We have no rules. We have no leader or ruler. Be prepared. We are. 20 October 2006 The Dark Knights of the Desolate Empire respond thus to the Avengers of the Light: Where are you? EACH AND EVERY Dark Knight can be found in arenas 31 and 52. Your pretty words mean less than nothing if you won't fight. EVERY Dark Knight is more than willing to back up their talk. So...we give you three turns in either 31 or 52, REPEAT 31 or 52 to show up or shut up.
