SUBJECT: XUL YLL T'ARAKIS, Male
SCOUTING REPORT: Large of stature--imposing, almost. Very, very few come much
bigger. Handles his preferred weapon, the shortspear, adequately. Stereotypically,
larger fighters are associated with slow-wittedness, but T'Arakis seems brighter than
one would expect. Surprisingly quick.

SUBJECT: SEPHIROTH GRAY, Male
SCOUTING REPORT: Agile, quick-witted, and graceful with a practiced deftness.
Handles most bladed weapons well, including the shortsword, the longsword, and
longspear. Prefers armors which do not inhibit mobility. Rather well-rounded, with
no overt weakness. Perhaps a little on the frail side.

SUBJECT: RALLASTER THORN, Male
SCOUTING REPORT: Short but stocky, fancies himself the second coming of Dirk
Cholera; although weapon choice is different, fighting approach is similar. With
training, subject could be less uncoordinated. Rather tough and tenacious.

SCOUTING REPORT: Possible long-term potential is very good, if she survives initial
fights. Immediate training should focus on coordination and physical training.
Until then, if heavy armor isn't too cumbersome, consideration must be given to its
use; subject is quite susceptible to damage.

SCOUTING REPORT: The quickest recruit so far, and possibly the most intelligent.
Adept with light, parrying weapons that produce quick definite attacks. Subject must
endear herself to the crowd, as her methods are not typically popular with an
audience who prefers offensive-minded gladiators. Will rely on her finesse and
maneuverability to rack up wins.

BRING IT ON! Dutiful, I have seen you fight and you are just not ready to be
Duelmaster. Wakizashi, you have paid your dues and you can have the top spot as soon
as I leave this arena. I am planning on parking at this spot for a while as I train
up my new stablemates. In the meantime, I will be here waiting....
SPY REPORT
The sages err'd not in their foretelling of a god descending upon CHIMLEVTAL,
for I, Novgorodny Vir, have returned! Nothing is certain in CHIMLEVTAL, with
changing loyalties, changing Duelmasters. Write this down: new top team--MIDDLE WAY
7. What's a move up by 3 you ask? (alright, maybe you didn't ask) Cause for
celebration, according to MIDDLE WAY 7. Like a new team fighting for the first time
and entering the official rankings, STEEL WOLVES 4 got 4-1-1 to come in 6th. BAD
NEWS BEES had cause to celebrate, after DRONE-ON got 19 points by beating WAKIZASHI.
Win some, lose some. Speaking of which, FLYBY was winsome, after beating ROSEMARY
and seeing her lose 13 points. Like a flirtacious debutante, CHIMLEVTAL's Duelmaster
BUMBLE found himself the man of the hour, being "invited to dance" 2 times! The
arena was more crowded than usual this time, as DUTIFUL faced CHIMLEVTAL's
Duelmaster. DUTIFUL found out that CHIMLEVTAL isn't a democracy. You've gotta be
the best to be Duelmaster here! Word has it one team in CHIMLEVTAL is taking speech
lessons to try to bore their opponent to death. I'll bet it works.
A Zenmaster once told me, 'Does not the spinning wheel turn? And do not the
little birds cry out?' Any ideas? To quell some nasty rumors, the guys in MORE
DESTROYERS are not carrying any incurable diseases. No need to avoid 'em. Like a
pup with its tail between its legs, THE FARSEERS scurried away from MORE DESTROYERS.
Oh, the shame!
Like the wind whispering among the pines, do hearest I many disquieting rumors.
Sober up, young warriors, and take note of SPARTAN #301's fate! PANDA ROSS of MIDDLE
WAY 7 handily did him in. Experience counts for something on CHIMLEVTAL's sands.
Questions are being raised about the disposing of severed body parts in the arena. A

All -- I read the Catalyst's ad regarding new warriors' potential (or lack thereof)
in last month's newsletter, and I share the same concerns. When is the Dark Arena
valuable, especially for managers like myself who can't really afford the fighting
fees of losing warriors? I'd much rather pay for a warrior who's 50% or better, with
a chance of graduating, than a poorly built guy who's somewhere around 2-7-0 on his
win-loss column, right?

Corwin -- It happens, and if we needed a reminder of that, some of our colleagues in
other arenas have gone on killing sprees with NO CHANGE IN STRATEGY AT ALL. There
must be some kind of, ah, blood tide or something. -- Jorja, Middle Way

The Catalyst -- That is probably a good question, but without more specifics, I don't
think I can answer it. Still, I gotta try--
Have you made use of the Consortium information packet from Noblish Island to
determine approximate starting skills and other such secondary (to the basic
overview) information? Is the warrior in question one of the styles that normally
starts slowly? I'd say those would be AB, PL, PR, PS, WS, most likely. Both pure
offensives and total parries tend to begin fairly well, or have obvious problems. Is
the warrior appropriately armed and armored?
Most important of all, to my thinking, do you enjoy reading the fights even
though you lose? When you get right down to it, this is a game and it's played for
fun. If a warrior isn't fun, why pay to keep running him? -- Jorja

Aries Kane -- Two things about your performance struck me (or Jorja, I was busy
fighting for my life) as points you should consider: You should think about reducing
your encumbrance, probably by reducing your armor. That's why you got tired. And
you need more attack skills badly, as indicated by the flailing. It might be worth
training some relevant stats to increase those skills in the fastest way. I mean,
*I* defeated you, with my (still) marginally suitable weapon. Which I REALLY want
fixed, but things move so SLOWLY. Still, it could actually be worse: I heard of one
case where a lunger was sent out with a warflail! She died, of course. -- Panda Ross
