DUELMASTER'S COLUMN
Notes from the arena champ.
I would expect this to be my final fight before the Commission inducts me to ADM, but
PP's and recognition points are a tricky thing. Cobol apparently wanted nothing to do
with me, challenging out of the CC's to get an easier fight. Assur will likely post
all my vital statistics next turn. That is all from me. -- Mr. Freeze
SPY REPORT
By the numbers, turn 382 was a down turn for Chimlevtal. 35 warriors represented
10 teams in 18 fights (2 bloodfeuds/5 challenges) and 3 dark arenas. For an arena
used to better style distribution, seeing 10 lungers out on the sands was surprising.
I wish I could blame our down turn on managers coming back from a successful tourney,
but that was almost a month ago and Chimlevtal's representation in the tournament was
pretty sparse, with no successes to speak of (though perhaps La Guillotine can give us
a name to avenge next tourney?). The encouraging part is that the teams that fight
continue to be committed to the arena. More than likely the overall numbers should
have been 35 warriors from 9 teams (almost 4 warriors fighting per team), but there
was a Dark Arena fight that looks suspiciously like one of those bait and switch dark
arenas that families often put together to try and saved their loved ones from a nasty
night fight.
Today's big news has to be the undefeated streaks that continue on. While most
of the challenges were huge upchallenges (which even more surprising given history
were mostly successful), BRUTALIX opted for a much safer challenge, going for the huge
style mismatch and an even recognition challenge. And while it vaulted him quickly up
the ranks, he likely learned very well in the win over the much more experienced QUEEN
OF THE NORTH. So BRUTALIX holds the top undefeated record at 5-0. To be fair, QUEEN
OF THE NORTH held out for a full 4 minutes before succumbing.
WAVES TOO BIG is next up, reaching 4-0 in a 19 point gain after quickly beating
ARNAGE in a matchup. WAVES TOO BIG was a big part of the 4th award that BASH BROS
OCEAN pulled in what was clearly the best team performance.
That team performance also included a bloodfeud win, the destruction of a USEFUL
WEAPON, and MR. FREEZE retained the throne with a second victory in two turns against
ISHIBO. Not sure why the commission arranged this fight for the second turn in a row.
Attendance wasn't great for the first one. MR. FREEZE was granted immortality after
the fight.
Strangely, it was also reported to me that MOTHER LODE was the most challenged
warrior this turn, yet MOTHER LODE was matched against a Dangerous Criminal. Seems
like the commission had some real issues this turn. Whoever did the matchups this
turn clearly needed to come off whatever drugs they were taking before doing them.
MOTHER LODE did lose, though, so perhaps it was fate (since so often the most
challenged warrior is challenged because they provide easy wins to the rest of the
arena).
The most avoided team was once again THE STORM REAVERS. Four of THE CANUCKS
avoided THE STORM REAVERS (who received 6 total avoids). 27 avoids total were made by
17 warriors. Ten different teams were avoided.
Before I close with what I felt was the best match of the week, I will say that
there were some personal ads. But while the rest of the information from the
commission arrived intact, the ads looked like they had gone through every excuse ever
made for not doing your homework. Another commission flunkee that needs to be fired!
(editorial note - it wasn't the actual commission, it was HAL, once again reminding us
that we should not trust technology, but it is so much more fun to lay the blame on an
individual).
I close today by reporting STRATOS' challenge to COBOL. As you will recall,
STRATOS met his unfortunate demise late last year, but managed to fight his way back
from the dead shortly after. Meanwhile, COBOL has been rising through the ranks like
a super star, nearly undefeated, and certainly looking like one of the top warriors in
the arena. As would be expected, the fight was much shorter than the anticipation
beforehand. And the bookies know the business all too well, for the odds-makers had
STRATOS winning. But that didn't stop the betting and when I checked just before the
fight began, the edge STRATOS had in the odds was very, very slim. After the fight, I
heard more than a couple conversations about strikers always beating slashers. Will
the commission give us a top two warriors' fight next turn for the throne? Will COBOL
seek a rematch? Clearly there will be a new warrior on the throne, but with the
recent graduations, those two look like the top contenders.

Seam (DM 20) will be re-opening soon as a no-tourney DM arena! If you enjoy arena
play without tournament interference, this arena is for you! Only rookie teams may
enter this arena, and all managers must sign the "no-tourney" pledge. Turn 0 is due
on May 4 (overviews only) and Turn 1 is due on May 18.
To avoid confusion, all old inactive teams which were in Seam have travelled to
Mazgourrah (DM 77).
Seam is the newest arena to join the no-tourney group of arenas and will process on
opposite weeks with Shadowspire (DM 81), the original no-tourney arena. Other no-
tourney arenas include Telorinthe (DM 83), a slow arena, and Storm Rock (DM 107), for
ADM warriors.
Join in the fun! Send in your new rollup along with the pledge soon so you can get in
on the ground floor of this new arena!
