Notes from the arena champ.
Well, my challenge went through to Frog-Eye Salad and since there is nobody
else that I can challenge right now, my challenges go to him again this turn.
I guess the good news for him is that he likely will take home even more
learns. I feel kind of bad, given te huge experience gap between the two of
us.
The good news is I should get my invite shortly, so you shouldn't have to
deal with me too much longer.
See you out the sands!

SPY REPORT
Pandemic? No problem... I am actually doing this report remotely, using the
latest greatest technology to report from the sands of Jhans. And I'm not talking
about the arena sands! I'm talking about the beach sands! What a wonderful time!
Because of how busy I am soaking in the sun, this will be a shorter than normal
report. One kill in 22 fights, but it was a big one! ROGUE, our duelmaster,
challenged and killed FROG-EYE SALAD. With the kill, ROGUE also earned immortality,
so any hopes JUST DESSERTS has for revenge will have to be made on a different OTHER
ONE.
No team performance stood out, though the return of MILITARY MAYHEM was a pleasant
surprise. ASSASSIN NATION was reported as the most avoided team, CARTOON NETWORK
avoiding the most. BASORN KUBIKIRI was the most challenged warrior. CONTEMPT was the
lucky winner of that sweepstakes and... CONTEMPT savagely defeated BASORN KUBIKIRI in
a exciting 4 minute Challenge fight.
No Pikers fought, but the other 9 styles were all represented. We have several
undefeated streaks going again. WITCHING HOUR sat out and stays at 13 wins. SALT
WATER extended to 5 against SUNSPOT. ETA CHAMAELEONTIS extended to 3 against SOL
DAEMON. Looks like SOLIS MILITES is a good team to fight if you are undefeated!
And in response to my fan club:
Lady Smith - I was nowhere near your house when the brick flew in. However I take the
fifth on whether I suggested the target
Witching Hour - I'm on your side! I recommend going after poor SUNSPOT! Already
extended a 4-0 streak to 5-0. Why not a 13-0 to 14-0?!?
And all the ads this turn!?! WOW! Thanks all. We could have erased Lady Smith's
ads this turn and been better off for it!

Lazy bimbo Belinda, that was a spy report? Or you simply didn't pen one, using a ghost
writer, because you were detained? I hope you rot in jail with the rest of those
looters and rioters. -- Lady Smith
That Other One, Rogue, is still on top? What a character! Our Useful Weapons admire
characters. -- Lady Smith
Well, well, well. A name from the past. Ghab? Is that really Ghab? Me and my honey,
Smithy, welcome you home. -- Lady Smith
Yup. Gud un be back. -- Smithy (Mgr of Useful Weapons and Consortium affiliated.)
They Quarantine in the ocean? Silly stuff. You shoulda dived for the puck before I
whacked you. Silly. -- Hockey Stick, Useful Weapon
Salt Water, that was terribly unfair of you to challenge me. No wonder you are
undrinkable. -- Bolo, Useful Weapon
Funny. Really funny. Exterminate tries to exterminate baloney spumoni and gets
exterminated instead. Got to love baloney sandwiches and spumoni for dessert. -- Lady
Smith
How many times am I going to have to decertify you, Basorn Kubikiri? Well, no problem;
I am enjoying each and every one. -- Lasso, Useful Weapon
Tsk. Tsk. Rumor has it that Belinda has moved in with Assur after he paid her jail
fine. Really? I wonder what his wife says about that? Unbelievable! -- Lady Smith
All -- Greetings Chimlevtal, we are After Midnight. Some of you may know of us. Some
of you, not so much. We would just like to take a moment to say that we look forward
to crossing blades with each and every one of you in fare and honourable combat. See
you in the sand. -- After Midnight
Lady Smith -- After all these years... We see that time has not been so kind to you.
-- After Midnight
Ghab -- Welcome back to Chimlevtal. I just dusted off a few binders myself. So I am
back in Duelmasters as well... for now. -- Weirdo, mgr After Midnight
Winter -- Consider a new manager 'cause yours is a real stinker! *holds nose* --
Witching Hour
Belinda -- The streak is alive! -- W.H.
Ravaged -- Thanks for the skills. Usually we teach better than we learn. -- Norison
Rose
Obliteration -- It's probably your red hair. Makes it hard for you to concentrate. --
Nellie Purr
Sol Daemon -- Well, damn. I was hoping for another win. Jorja won't
send me to the Dark Arena, but I almost wish she would. -- Nearly Parker
Solamancer -- Not our day. Looks like we're headed for an oh-fer turn.
-- Cherry Pie
P.S. And how did I come out with THAT name? My manager is nuts.
Wow, the only win on our team! Does this mean I won't have to do the
dishes tonight? -- Ursula Vine
Smithy -- Was 2x4 one of those 1 3/4 x 3 1/2 pieces of lumber? If
you're trying to fix up an old house, they're useless. -- Jorja
Norrison Rose -- That fight was everthing I expected it to be. I did expect
to get a few more learns though, you miser! -- Ravaged
Frof-Eye Salad -- Well. I kind of already gave my thoughts in the DM Column,
but you shouldn't feel bad. I have a lot more experience than you. Kind of
stinks that you are the only active Challenger Champion I am able to match
up against. -- Rogue
Hanzo -- Thanks for the learn! I would try to fight you again, but I don't
want to appear greedy with a 20 point down challenge. Until we meet again!
-- Defiance
Tanken -- I appreciate you letting me keep my unbeaten streak going in the arena.
Since a tournament is upon us, I will sit out to get some much needed fights
in before continuing. The air is kind of thin up here for someone with my
limited exerience. Until we meet again. -- Tantrum
Snarky Lime Pie -- I had you and then I didn't. You're a testament to your
style and my endurance! -- Perish
Baloney Spumoni -- Well, Ghab feels like you did him a favor and I was
probably only a turn or two from fighting with the lights out. Two of my
losses were due to ~70 point down-challenge bloodfeuds by the Storm Reavers
(a long time ago), but all in all I guess I wasn't anything too special! --
Ghost of Exterminate
Red Pepper -- Congrats on the skill rating! Congrats on staying alive for at
least another day as well? *wink* -- Contempt
Nellie Purr -- I guess I bit off a little more than I could chew. Still, you
taught me NOTHING??? Ghab is starting to get impatient with me! *gulp* --
Obliteration
Harpoon -- For as short as that fight was it was pretty good action back and
forth. Good fight! -- Desolation
Lady Smith -- Thank you for the recognition and accolades. Good to be back
in the swing of things! -- Rogue
Bolo -- Pretty funny you trying to splash me around. That doesn't do much to me. --
Salt Water
Witching Hour -- In a different month, I'd bring my fury even in your hour -- Winter
Hockey Stick -- You really weren't supposed to be on the beach, you know! It's --
Quarantine
Rogue -- Nice challenge and gratz on taking the throne of our fine arena. It takes a
lot of guts to transfer someone so tall who swings a mean sword... -- Frog-Eye Salad
We have gone away from our roots a bit. Historical tastes of the Just Dessert squad
have seemingly been forgotten about, in lieu of our new "enlightened" tastes. Key
lime, spumoni, and frog-eye (huh?) have replaced our traditional ways. Though we've
had some success, we think a more classical shift would be good for us as a squad. As
such I've been trotted out to introduce myself and my new cohort. Introducing
first...He's Gooey...He's Oozey...hit him and you're likely to get splashed with
chocolate goodness...he's Lava Golem Cake! Then there's me. I started out looking to
join a different manager's squad, but when they rejected me I went to his lesser
known, and not as accomplished colleague Destitute Noble, and joined his squad
instead. In a way to remind Floyd of what he missed out on, I have taken the moniker
Floyd's Brookie. I'm part bad brownie, part crazy cookie, but all warrior! Golem and
I will be seeing you after we try our hand in the rookies tournament coming up. See
'ya soon Chimlevtal!!

RSI PANDEMIC UPDATE
We're doing okay out here in Arizona, staying mostly quiet and trying to stay healthy,
and we hope you and your families are well. Things are super weird right now.
Here's a quick update on what's coming up:
Summer 2020 Face-to-Face: In case there is any lingering doubt, the 2020 summer face-
to-face is cancelled. It just doesn't seem wise to hold it, and feedback is that most
of you would not be able to attend. Better to stay safe and stay at home, this time.
Summer 2020 Mail-In: So we'll hold a mail-in tournament this summer. It will be held
on the weekend of July 17-19, 2020. We are still finalizing the format--look for the
tournament announcement shortly after the freeze on June 6th.
Halloween 2020 Mail-In: Should be able to take place as normal. We bandied about the
idea of having a Fall FTF, but that doesn't look like a good idea.
Winter 2021 Face-to-Face: We have already secured a contract for the Winter FTF in
Tempe for our usual Martin Luther King weekend, January 15-17, 2021 and are crossing
our fingers that we will be able to hold that tournament in person, but there is still
some chance that we will need to cancel it as well. I expect we will know for certain
in November or December. Please mark it on your calendars and feel free to get hotel
reservations, but don't buy non-refundable plane tickets! (We are waiting for the
group code for reservations and will post it when we get it.)
Summer 2021 Face-to-Face: Surely we'll be able to have this one! *crossed fingers*
We're looking at the midwest cities for this one (Cincinnati or Minneapolis), so stay
tuned.

THE BLOODGAMES HAVE RETURNED!
For those of you who always wanted the chance to manage the last warrior standing
alive upon the arena sands, your day has come. At the end of the ten turns, even
though several warriors, bruised and scarred, MAY yet live, only three will be crowned
Bloodgames Champions and be invited to the Isle of the Eye! And in this game mere
survival counts for little. A great general once said, "The object of battle is not
to die for your cause, but to make your enemy die for his." This general would have
greatly enjoyed the Duelmasters Bloodgames!
By popular demand, we will hold THREE Bloodgames arenas -- a regular and slow
Bloodgames by mail, and a Bloodgames which will run with the mail-in tourney!
DM 95: slow bloodgames (due every four weeks, due July 20)
DM 98: regular speed bloodgames (due every two weeks, due July 20)
DM 99: mail-in style bloodgames (processed with the tourney, due July 15)
Gameplay in the Bloodgames proceeds according to standard DM rules, except for a few
notable exceptions:
* STARTING A BLOODGAMES TEAM -- You don't need a special rollup to enter the
bloodgames. Your Bloodgames team is ten warriors, one of each fighting style, each
warrior designed from scratch! (All are 84 points, 3-21, as usual.) Simply list your
ten warriors and send them to us; we will send you back overviews of your warriors so
you can submit strategies. The first turn is due mid-July and subsequent turns will
be due on Mondays.
* DEATH -- As the name implies, the Bloodgames will leave the arena sands somewhat
darker before they're over. It's a dangerous sport intended only for the tough and
spirited. The Arenamaster will be less likely to intercede on behalf of a dying
warrior. Even at a 1 kill desire, kill attempts will occur. There are no
replacements -- once a warrior dies, that's it!
* STRATEGIES AND CHALLENGES -- New strategies may be issued for each turn for the
regular and slow bloodgames, while the mail-in bloodgames will process all ten rounds
with a single strategy. The only type of challenge available is a bloodfeud.
* MISSED TURNS -- All warriors fight each round. Only the dead may rest.
* ERRORS -- If we make an input error, that warrior will be awarded a win and kill.
Errors must be reported before the next turn processes.
* NEWSLETTER -- Warriors are ranked according to their number of kills. Bloodgames
Champions may write a column for the newsletter at the end of the games.
* AWARDS -- The Bloodgames last ten rounds. The top three living warriors with the
greatest number of kills, only one of each style, are deemed Bloodgames Champions.
Win/loss records and, if necessary, recognition points will only be used to determine
awards if there is a tie. All three Bloodgames Champions fight for free for six
months and can issue one Tournament Victor challenge each turn, allowing them to
challenge with increased priority, also for six months.
* FEES -- A Bloodgames rollup costs a $10 set-up fee. Managers may roll up additional
teams but may fight only one team in each arena. The fee is $49 for all 10 rounds.
* AFTERMATH -- Warriors from the Bloodgames may not transfer to any other arena. Once
the games are over, the arena and teams will be disbanded. The fighters have won
their freedom and will never more be seen in the gladiatorial games. A special bonus
will, however, be awarded to the Bloodgames Champions: Lady Sheila Greywand, of the
Isle of the Eye, has consented to allow the top three gladiators in each Bloodgames
admission to the Advanced Duelmasters games. Any special training required to qualify
those three warriors for Advanced Duelmasters combat will be conducted before transfer
into ADM. Astute managers will note that this means that three warriors that are
designed from scratch will survive the Bloodgames, win one of the top three places,
and go on to immortal glory! One of those warriors could be yours!
The challenge is yours to take. The final plans are yours to make.
When the dust settles, remember: To the victor goes the spoils!
NEW GRADUATES--FROM ALL ARENAS (INCLUDING CLOSED ARENAS)
For those of you who keep track of such things, a few additional warriors graduated

Just a note:
Our DM writers (both staff and players) put quite a bit of effort into writing content
for the newsletters: spy reports, spotlights, and personal ads; fiction and non-
fiction. If you enjoy these, if you want more, or even if they make you laugh, it
would be kind if you could drop a personal ad or even send them a note.
Assur and Consortium, especially, put tremendous effort in Noblish Island, writing new
content and tweaking/correcting older content to help new players learn the game.
A special shoutout should also go to our varied human spy reporters in the ADM arenas,
Seam, Chimlevtal, Shadowspire, Telorinthe, and occasionallly contest arenas.
Kudos and thank you to all of our writers! I'm sure we don't thank you enough.

MINI SPOTS
The short spotlights that Jorja has been writing were intended to be amusing but also
possibly to provide a jumping-off point for further fiction. If you're interested in
collaborating with a story, please contact her -- or just write it! (Let CSR know if
you need her email address.)
