                             Notes from the arena champ.

Greetings warriors of Arvat!

I am Tia M. Att, your new Duelmaster and Queen of the arena. For one week, at
least. Instead of ranting about my greatness, I will provide you with an interesting
look at the history of my famous team and, also, of the arena of Arvat.
Here is a list of the Duelmasters from the Devil Advocates, all 23 of us. Also
included in the list, with an asterisk, is Cal E. Bann, the only one of us to be
promoted to Lord Protector without having held the title.

B. Al Zeybub -- PS Lucy Firr -- TP

Gary M. Reaper -- AB *Cal E. Bann
Sir Rebus -- BA

Quite the small army. With luck we will soon surpass the 30 mark. I will say
that my own small contribution is being the only member of the team to take the title
with a kill. With luck I will return to teach you all more next turn.

               Tia M. Att

P.S. One of our other goals was one warrior of each style to ADM.

                                      SPY REPORT

The sages err'd not in their foretelling of a god descending upon ARVAT, for I,
Novgorodny Vir, have returned! Practice pays for BOATMAN KU, who pummelled
PERSISTENT BEGGAR, to pocket 16 points. SILVER MINNOW certainly had a baffled
expression on hers face, after losing to PRETTY WILD and losing 6 points in the
process! In ARVAT, nothing is permanent (except Death), and we find ourselves a new
Duelmaster, JOHNNY B GOODE. Word has it one team in ARVAT is taking speech lessons
to try to bore their opponent to death. I'll bet it works.
A Zenmaster once told me, 'Does not the spinning wheel turn? And do not the
little birds cry out?' Any ideas? To quell some nasty rumors, the guys in DIAMOND
THRONE are not carrying any incurable diseases. No need to avoid 'em. As a woman of
good breeding scorns the "warriors" of SARATOGA GLORY, so did that sorry team shy
from DIAMOND THRONE Is it charming personality? Conversational abilities? Good oral
hygiene? Whatever it is, BASKERVOLE is the most challenged warrior.
Is there life after death? Pragmatics (and warriors) know there is death after
life! I get a special thrill from seeing innocent boy like GHOSTZAPPER from SARATOGA
GLORY get pointlessly killed. Good show, DANGEROUS CRIMINAL! (No mercy.) Oh hard!
that to strike a flame, the match itself must needs be wasting!
All good things must come to an end. Keep those sands bloody and the buzzards
fat! Like a mixed metaphor, and an overtaxed simile, I now bid ARVAT farewell--
Novgorodny Vir

Tai M. Att -- Congrats on the title. -- Saratoga Glory

Tassalter -- Good fight. That one could have gone either way. I'm sure we'll meet
up again one day. -- Pretty Wild

Silver Minnow -- Nice job. I didn't expect for you to start swinging back like that.
Very impressive. -- Trademark

Baskervole -- Thanks for the fight. I didn't expect to win that one. -- Stylish

Loach -- My apologies for your death. Again, we weren't trying to kill. Good luck
in your afterlife, wherever it may take you. -- Saratoga Glory

Ted Evil -- I'm sure someone your size didn't expect to be looking up at anyone. I
heard a rumor that you might be fighting at night soon. I hope that isn't true. I
could use the target practice. -- Ghost Zapper

Trademark -- Do you have a patent on those moves? Ouch. I'd like to try them
myself. Uh, wait while I check to make sure I'm alive. Okay, learned skills = still
alive. Good. -- Silver Minnow, endangered but still hanging in there

Stylish -- Yeah, okay, so you know how to crook your pinky drinking tea. Is this
supposed to impress me? -- Baskervole, taking a bolder line than he can reasonably
support but some people are like that

Solar Man -- I am burned to a crisp! How awful.... -- Ghost of Loach
P.S. (shrieking in an ectoplasmic key) ROUGH? You call that horrible behavior
ROUGH? Gods.

Pretty Wild -- (wincing) I noticed. -- Tassalter

May Fistafoles -- You are a true lady, ma'am. I salute you and wish you well. --
Fizgigg

The Trainer -- (grinning) Most managers like to fight my warriors, here and
elsewhere! Almost as easy as a standby, and we teach better. But occasionally, just
to make things interesting, the RUGs give me a rollup so capable that even I can't
ruin it with non-management.... -- Jorja

10 January 2004
ZalCon2 Updates (1/9/04)

The contest will be starting on the turn due February 23rd, 2004 and run for 20
turns.
Only one team will be allowed for each manager in the contest, regardless of
whether additional teams are announced as contest entries. No exceptions for any
reason.
The Style Master points should read that there is +1 point for beating a member
of your own style even if the warrior is not registered for the contest.
Rolling points for consecutive turns as Style Master means that your warrior
gets the extra point every turn after the first 3 that he continues to hold the
title.
The points for Quality Wins should be clarified to read the winning warrior is
ranked below by the number of recognition points needed for each bonus point at the
start of the fight. For example, Warrior A (3-2-0, 17) beats Warrior B (4-1-0, 35)
and receives 2 bonus points under Quality Win for the 18 point difference in the
ranking.
I believe that is all the clarifications for the moment, please feel free to
email, diplo, call or write me with any other questions or concerns about the
contest.

                                    CHAOTIC WINDS
Once, long ago, the four Winds of Time descended upon Alastari like a TEMPEST of
epic proportions, they slew everything within their all-encompassing reach. They
left nothing. In their wake lay smoldering ruins.
In their haste they sped towards the center of this great land like a colossal
giant would step across an ocean. The four storms picked up momentum on their way
towards each other. A collision was eminent.
The first storm wind, the oldest and wisest of the four was named APEXALUS. The
second, FLAGGSTAFF, was the quickest and loudest entity ever created. The third Wind
of Time was MATRIATIN, neither old or young, quick or slow, but fierce and feisty all
the same. The forth wind, ASSAMITHIUS, the youngest yet most creative in its means
of destruction.
When finally they merged at the center of ALASTARI, an incredible destructive
explosion occurred. And when the smoke and debris cleared they were one. CHAOS was
born.
And Chaos spread across the diminished lands reeking havoc and doom with its
passing, and destroying allover again that which already lay in ruin.

28 January 2004
All -- I send out this invitation to all teams and managers. A new Alliance has been
formed. The Living Essences Alliance is being formed to join forces in an effort to
eliminate common foes and to help the joined warriors grow and learn to the best of
their abilities by offering suggestions and advice. It doesn't matter what arena
you're in, or if you're in another alliance already, as of today. This Alliance is
open to one and all! If you are interested in joining, please DIPLO me, or send a
personal ad to DM 93's newsletter. If you wish to join beyond March 2004, send a PA
to DM 82. Come join the fun! -- Dagan LifeGiver, mgr. Shadow Warriors (DM 93)
