Noble held his head with two fingers--one just above each eyebrow, he considered
starting to suck his thumb at this particular point in time, and regress in the Noble
before the manager circa age one, but he was able to hold off on letting loose that
much emotion. Noble started slowly, "I asked you distinctly Sherri not to actually
enter the warriors officially. Is that what I asked you Sheri?" Noble asked, head
still perched on two fingers.
Sherri, who was sitting across from Noble and looking at him over a very dusty
and unkempt desk, thought for a moment before she replied. "You said to tell the
warriors who they'd be challenging and avoiding."
"Sherri," Noble moved his fingers to his chin now tapping it thoughtfully,
"nowhere in your line did I hear the words 'Sherri please officially enter the
warriors.'"
Sherri, getting more flustered now with her boss of fifteen years replied, "Nor
have you ever asked me to officially enter the warriors with that term. You've
always said tell the punks who they are fighting and that was it. I've always
entered the warriors at that point and you've never had an issue before this!"
"One name Sheri," Noble said looking directly at her. "The Icelord." Noble
looked around expecting theme music to start playing since he uttered The Icelord's
name, but then he remembered he had never gotten that installed (it cost too much
money). Sherri just looked at him wondering why he was looking around crazily.
"I know, I know," she muttered fidgeting in her chair and looking at her
appointment book. "Ancient history, you wrote some little fantasy story and he took
that as a personal assault...pshaw! If more women were managers we'd never have such
petty disputes, we'd settle it on the sands."
Noble grinned sideways at her. "You know most warriors managed by women are
ridiculed, right? Unless the warriors themselves are women, but I'd guess only ten
percent of warriors currently in the games are women, judging by my extensive travels
across the land.
Sherri yawned then said, "It's actually 17.5% as of March 31, 2005 Earth day."
In actuality, Sherri had no idea what the real number was, but she had worked for him
so long, it was easy for a woman like her to read a broken down codger like him.
"Wow," Noble said, "that seems like a lot." He thought for a moment. "Maybe
I'll make you come with me to the next tourney to take an actual tally."
Sherri wanted to lash back, but in the end though better of it. She realized
now the work that would go into tallying the warriors when she could be relaxing
somewhere, it overwhelmed her and she emitted a sigh. "Who's going to tell Killing
Machine the bad news?"
Noble started to reply but was interrupted by Killing Machine who had been
close by during the entire conversation. "What bad news?" he asked. He had heard
through Sherri that the axe was coming already, and he had accepted his fate like a
true warrior was supposed to. He thought of Destitute Noble as a cruel master
anyway, and did not want to fight for him anymore anyway. Noble kept telling him he
was "mode" and average, but Killer as his stablemates called him thought his 11 and 3
record was not average, though his tourney performances were nothing stellar. Killer
was very fearful of facing his doom and could not stomach the thought of actually
dying. Which gave him a fear like he'd never known. He'd already been told he'd be
fighting in the dark arena--what could be worse than that? Then again, his teammates
had told him that when you fight for Noble, the DA was not always the end of it.
Noble told him the story of The Icelord, and their history, mostly a rehash of
what he told everyone when they started this team. Sherri had of course heard this
one tens of times, so she yawned again. The warriors called them his "war stories",
and he had three or four main ones he'd repeat all the time. The Boss Rat story.
The Dark One story. It really was pretty sad. Still, Killing Machine understood how
important it was to defend honor and fight beside these other warriors he had come to
know was very important.
"No problem, DM," Killer said, "I'll just kill me a beast and then we'll move
onto Golem and the Sensei guy."
Noble smiled full out this time. The moment, a microcosm of what was good about
being a manager in the skin trade of arena fighting. "Now some good news, if you
stay alive in the dark arena fight and live to make immortal status, Killer," Noble said, "I'll let you fight all the way up until you are classified AD or higher in the
tourney pools."
Killer frowned with that knowledge. He kinda thought about leaving the fighting
game anyway. He had heard from other sources that most times, Noble would substitute
a replacement warrior with a helmet to get slaughtered in your place, unless you were
on his bad side at that time. In this case, he would have to go into the arena and
actually fight and kill the creature if he wanted to help his comrades. Before this,
he had assumed Noble wanted to replace him with someone with more potential so the
dark arena entry would send him on his way. As it looked currently, Killer would
have to face the dark arena. "No problem DN, pull out Tiger's Eye, that old
shortsword you let me use in the first tourney, and I'll get 'er done."
Noble was afraid of giving Machine Tiger's Eye to fight with. It was a personal
favorite and had brought his warriors many victories over time. "For this fight, you
got it!" Noble exclaimed. "Just make sure you get it back to me in one piece!"
"All right, enough male macho stuff," Sherri interjected. "What do we tell the
press about your enigmatic return on the same turn he calls you out?"
Noble had stewed on that one for the entire stinking trip back here from The
Isle, a journey that sent a shiver down his spine even now just thinking about it.
He had considered saying he too had thought up the idea that He and The Icelord
should duke it out in Arvat and he had started the team back up to do just that
before he knew anything about The Icelord's proposal. The journey though gave him
time to squelch that idea. He had done enough satirical writing already to damage
what he considered a valuable relationship. "Just say that he notified me of the
challenge personally as any warrior truly should, and I accepted it as any warrior
truly would!"
Sherri winked at him, "Got ya, boss!" and she was off to make many personal
phone calls.
"It's important for you to lead the guys on this one, okay Killer?" Noble asked
putting his hand on the warrior's shoulders. "Other than you we're outgunned here,
and the two guys you can face will be avoiding you like the plague."
Killing Machine backed away from Noble, apparently his travel accommodations
were not equipped with a sink for Noble to have brushed properly. "Our challenges
will go through, and so will theirs because we're not going to avoid them at all."
"That's why I pay you to fight, and not to think," Noble said playfully, "Go
grab your stuff and get practicing. You can spar against B. Tell him to put on
chainmail and work on endurance, you grab the quarterstaff to work on hitting
harder."
"10-4, boss." Killer said as he departed. Noble was left alone in his very old
office. Many years had his stable occupied this building, both during the
"Notorious" days, and now during the "Priest" days. Now it looked like he'd be
spending the better part of Summer here, maybe into late October depending on how the
"war" against The Icelord went. He had other business in Chimlevtal and Aljafir, but
that would have to work itself out for now--this was more important to him.

Days later, after the fights had occurred, Noble penned this diplo note to the
Icelord and has it sent to his stable. It said, "We're 1-1 so far, we'll run through
the last turn of 2005, and I won't stop fighting anyone for tournament timing. Also,
I've got hair on my chin, and I look forward to besting you more often than not,
despite my horrific fight disadvantage to start." Noble grinned at that....

                                 DUELMASTER'S COLUMN
                             Notes from the arena champ.

WOW!!!!! What else can I say???? I've been here now for six straight turns. It's
the longest consecutive run since Terrablood's site began keeping this information.
I just surpassed the previous record of five straight turns that was held by a handful of warriors. Amongst those are: Lightning of Harbingers, Starbreaker of
Call the Priest and Stylish of Saratoga Glory. I consider it an honor to be
mentioned in the same breath as such great names. This is actually my seventh time
as Duelmaster. I had held the throne previously at 9-1-1 but I lost the title due to
inactivity. That's not too shabby, is it? Twenty arena fights, Seven-Time
Duelmaster.

I am the fourth warrior from the Saratoga Glory stable to become Duelmaster. I join
my immortal brothers Solar Man, Stylish and Trademark. I will be joining the latter
two in being active in the Free Blades arena. Stylish and Trademark have been
inactive in the arena but after this next turn they will up and running again. If
anyone wants to give them a shot, feel free to look them up.

I am off to train for my final Arvat arena appearance. I hope it's a good one. For
the last time. Your Duelmaster,

Savory

Greetings people of Arvat. Savory started off his career for me with a bang so it is
only fitting that he ends it on top. In his first and only tournament appearance,
Savory went 12-3-0 and finished third in the Rookies April 2004 Mail In Tourney. I
actually didn't think or expect much out of him in the tourney but he surprised me
and he has really kept on surprising me. Savory started life as 11-5-7-11-17-12-21
Norm/Good. I thought he would win fights but I never thought he would go a
collective 28-7-1. Not too shabby, if I say so myself. Savory's favs are
Quarterstaff, Mod/Mod. I have no idea what his skill levels are right now but at
last count he was Expert Riposte, Master Attack, Advanced Expert Parry, Advanced
Expert in Defense and Expert Decisiveness. I plan on running him in 103. We hope to
see you there.

                                      SPY REPORT

Ready for some action-packed adventure, some thrills, chills and spills? Well
fergit it, cause this is the Spyreport for ARVAT. Too bad, SARATOGA GLORY, but DEVIL
ADVOCATES was just too good to be stopped. The guys at CALL THE PRIEST like really
pulled together to get a 4-1-1 this turn, moving up by 3. What was the name of that
team who got 4-1-1 this turn for a total 788-464-41 you ask? (Sure) DEVIL
ADVOCATES' their name, and fighting's their game! MVP award for LOGGERHEAD?
FISHERMAN'S WHARF's proud of him after beating STRATOSTAR and getting 16 points.
Talk about yer big time losers! STRATOSTAR got smashed by LOGGERHEAD, and lost 12
points! Don't you think the Duelmaster is being unfair? I think SAVORY should let
LITTLE RAINBOW be Duelmaster for a while, without fighting about it. Who was the
wiseguy that said ARVAT's Duelmaster was paying for drinks at The Dripping Blade?
Don't look at me!
Look, you guys stick to fighting, all right? The warriors of THE STORMLORDS
must be getting lonely. They were the most avoided team. Do you guys know something
that I don't? Hhmph! What kind of warriors are CALL THE PRIEST? THE STORMLORDS, an
easy team to beat if I ever saw one, can't get them to accept an invitation! Can THE
STORMLORDS' OBSIDIAN GOLEM be more popular than me? It was challenged the most, but
is that really the same? Some fights are really unfair. How do you think TASSALTER
feels about being challenged by TAD DEVILLE, 23 points above him? Is this how DEVIL
ADVOCATES advances, by having their members (TAD DEVILLE) fight people that are
really below them (TASSALTER)?
Man, all these warriors dying and killing each other! Don't you guys ever give
it a break? What a bunch of heartless! I couldn't believe how many people were
snickering when UNITED killed THOR. So he had a 3-6-0, that's no excuse! Fight,
fight, fight. Is that all you guys can do?
Remember, blood on a purple robe may stain. Soak it in cold water, and hand
wash. I'm getting tired of writing this stuff, so I'm calling it quits. Its been
really albendranius! Later, guys-- Debby Tonte

Arvat -- I trust you will honor The Icelord's words from last turn during our ongoing
"fued" to settle our differences once and for all (unless he ends up with more wins
than me). -- D. Noble

Icelord -- I hope you enjoyed the column this turn. I look forward to the coming
turns in Arvat, and will read them gleefully line by line each turn to fully savor
the zeal of each victory, and the agony of each defeat. Either way, it is because of
folks like you that this game continues to hold my fancy, and win or lose in our
little contest, I raise my glass to you in honor of your years of wisdom, and the
hope that once our fight has been fought, we will return to our previous ways of
being respectful adversaries. -- D. Noble

Stormlords -- I was so ticked when I found out Noble couldn't get my name pulled from
the DA in time, I figured I had to go ahead and kill a bandit prince to get to some
of you. Hey you, yeah you, the two bricks at the top...hope yer avoids work! --
Killing Machine

Lord Protectors Savory and Tad Deville -- Congratulations! Salute! -- The Stormlords

LP Savory -- I, for one, am glad to see you go. -- Sensoo O Suru

Arvat -- The historic 500th cycle is rapidly approaching! We will donate a chest of
gold towards the festivities. -- The Stormlords-members of The Council of Lords

Destitute N. -- <wink> You are just way too cool. I figured if I tweaked you
enough, you'd return here. I didn't like the way you disrespected High Lord Bosk,
particularly when you brought it to Chimlevtal with that DA warrior named "Freki's
Lover." Now I have a score to settle with you. We can get as nasty about it as you
want. I am one of the most patient managers in the game, so you know I won't let it
go until you apologize to Bosk. Now, let's just have at it right here in Arvat. No
excuses like "I'm prepping for a tourney." Just run five warriors a turn, every
turn, for the rest of 2005. No conditions, no excuses. Buck up and grow some hair
on that chin of yours. Again the only parameters are: five warriors a turn, every
turn, in Arvat, for the rest of 2005. -- The Icelord

All -- Sorry I haven't been as vocal as usual lately. Too many real world issues
going on. I'll try and atone for my errors this turn. As it is I still haven't
received my turn as of the due-date so my apologies if I fudge some things. I hope
to be back to my usual ways next turn. Again, my apologies. -- the Trainer

Baskervole -- A belated congratulations on your invite. Way to go!!!!! -- the
Trainer

All -- Everyone, for turn 500 I hope everyone will join me in writing a team
spotlight. I am committed to doing that. I hope everyone else will join me. -- the
Trainer

the Icelord -- That's the spirit!!!!! Now you're talking!! -- the Trainer

Destitute Noble -- Ahhhhhh, Welcome back to Arvat. We at Saratoga Glory hope you
stick around a little longer this time. I am sure you are just going to be around
for a couple of turns to prep your warriors for the tourney though. I especially
hope you stick around though as it seems like the Stormlords and you have a little
war going on. It would be interesting to watch and perhaps wager on. I could post
odds.... Hmmmmmmm.... -- the Trainer

the Dark One -- At least you're trying, at least you're trying. -- the Trainer

Tad Deville -- Congratulations on your invite. We at Saratoga Glory take pride in
that fact that we put three of those five losses on your record. Good luck at the
Isle or whereever else you end up. Good luck! -- the Trainer

Sensoo O Suru -- Sorry about the rough treatment. Bad, bad matchup for you though.
Come to 103. I'll be rolling there. -- Savory

Baskervole -- I knew it probably wasn't the best of ideas to challenge you but the
boss thought I could take you. I don't mind knowing that my first arena loss was to
a warrior of with your honor. I wish you nothing but the best in your future
endeavors. -- Silver Train

Loggerhead -- Thanks for the fight. We should do it again sometime. At least you
were someone other than Thor. I am tired of seeing him. -- Stratostar

Lou Cypher -- ...and DON'T you forget it!!!!!!!! -- Stratostar

All -- Again, we hope to be much more vocal next turn. -- the Trainer

I have returned after a five-year absence. I expect all tithes, gifts and bequeaths
to resume as normal. -- Magic Man

4 May 2005
Several questions have been asked about Slaughter's Challenge that I'd like to
address and clarify.
     1) All Prizes must be used on the contest team, this includes the resurrection.
Remember any fast arena team should be able to transfer to a slow arena
(except for arena 82, I believe).
     2) Warriors will be allowed to fight and run in the dead tourney, should there
be one, and return if an opening can be made without breaking the rules
(i.e. only one DA fight allowed per team).
     3) If you win your single DA match you do not get another. It's one use of the
Dark Arena win or lose so if you want him/her/it dead be sure and throw the
         match!
     4) The resurrection potion's longevity has been extended by the commission to 6
months but the other potions (favorites, and +1 bonus) must still be used
within 2 turns and on a 5 FE or higher warrior. The resurrection can go on
         any warrior regardless of FE.
Street Legal

P.S. My thanks to those already entered (Hammer, The Consortium, Tripwire, Stik, and
Shaman) and hope many more find a reason to come to arena 54. Again, my email is
triumph1971@hotmail.com or you can diplo me in arena 14 at THE DEATH SQUAD (63) if
you need more info!
