Zukal:
Karolvingar flicked one leathery wing and looked away, not answering Doreg's
question.
Zrof said, "Time is different in some other universes. It might not have been
thousands of years where the Demon Prince is now."
Doreg looked at the arenamaster, and his face went blank. For all practical
purposes, Zrof One-Eye was a Prince of Zukal just as he himself was, and it was folly
to reveal one's feelings to another prince. They might be allies at the moment, but
the princes of Zukal were always rivals. "You speak as though you know," he said.
Zrof nodded. "I do know. Not all, not for sure where the Demon Prince may be
found, but...I know something. Where to start looking."
Doreg stiffened, his face becoming, if anything, blanker. He was the youngest
of the Bandit Princes, he was Rirorni, he was relatively new to his rank and even to
the city of Zukal. He knew that some of the princes resented him, were more than
rivals. "Do the others know--?"
Zrof shook his head. "They know nothing at all about the Demon Prince. Many of
them don't even know there ever was such a man. Some wouldn't believe it, and none
of them can be of any use in this. The places where we will need to go to find the
Demon Prince are not for the old and those who are set in their ways. You and I.
Perhaps a gladiator or two...." He frowned. "If such can be found."
DUELMASTER'S COLUMN
Notes from the arena champ.
A bold challenge, Argonaut, and it is with regret that I saw you die. I'm
afraid my dexterity leaves something to be desired, as I was aiming for your leg. I
hope your manager will learn from this, however, and send his warriors out with
armor! To come out in your shirtsleeves is asking for trouble.

SPY REPORT
Greetings, Warriors of ARVAT. Allow this humble servant Novgorodny Vir to give
you a respite from the fights in the form of this Spyreport. What's a move up by 3
you ask? (alright, maybe you didn't ask) Cause for celebration, according to
FISHERMAN'S WHARF. Practice pays for BOOYAH JIM, who pummelled PERSISTENT BEGGAR, to
pocket 16 points. BILL ZEYBUB certainly had a baffled expression on his face, after
losing to ULTHAR ULSAY and losing 14 points in the process! You could cut the
tension with a scimitar as BEFORE THE DAWN of CALL THE PRIEST met the Duelmaster. In
ARVAT, nothing is permanent (except Death), and we find ourselves a new Duelmaster,
BEFORE THE DAWN. Word has it one team in ARVAT is taking speech lessons to try to
bore their opponent to death. I'll bet it works.
A Zenmaster once told me, 'Does not the spinning wheel turn? And do not the
little birds cry out?' Any ideas? Perhaps the warriors of COLLEGE RADIO should take
up some hobbies, as they are the most avoided team... As a woman of good breeding
scorns the "warriors" of DEVIL ADVOCATES, so did that sorry team shy from COLLEGE
RADIO If challenges were horses, CHARON could open up a fast food joint! My love of
complete Spyreports dictates that I note the mismatched fight, VANITY and M. EDGAR
D'SERPENT. Are FRIEND OR FOE? unwilling to engage in a fair fight? I thought VANITY
showed great skill and promise when it killed M. EDGAR D'SERPENT. All right, so I
slept through it! Big deal!
Is there life after death? Pragmatics (and warriors) know there is death after
life! Ask not a spymaster for counsel, for he will pontificate long after you have
fallen into an unconscious stupor.
Do not think spyreporting in ARVAT is the highlight of my life. As if buffeted
by forces of nature beyond my control, I must take my leave of this place. Can
anything compare to the pleasure of writing Spyreports for ARVAT? On that giddy note
I take my leave-- Novgorodny Vir

HAMMER ANNOUNCES RETIREMENT
Be it known from the highest mountains to the darkest alleys of Alastari that
the veteran manager known far and wide as Hammer has now officially retired from
sponsoring contests as of September 15, 2005.
What a long time ago was a fun motivated activity to help promote our common
DM/D2 gaming interest in an effort to promote the growth and competitiveness of
selected arenas has become a far from fun experience.
In other words Hammer has had it!
The combination of real life situations interfering with the time needed to
effectively sponsor a contest, plus the attitudes expressed during such sponsorship
interference has led to Hammer closing his personal coin coffers and retiring from
his planned sponsorship of any future contests.
There are others in our close knit gaming community who are well able to step up
to the plate and continue sponsoring contests that make the basic game a fun
experience for all those who choose to compete and interact in such future endeavors.
Hammer thanks all managers both active and inactive who helped to make the
Hammer sponsored contests a historical and entertaining experience well worth the
time, effort and money spent over the past several years.
May the Cheers and the Jeers of future contests build upon the legacies of those
who have paved the way in years gone by to help make this game what it is today.
Hammer has no regrets for the part he has played in that history.
19 September 2005
I'd like to say hello to everyone I know that is still around after my being gone for
five years. Hope to see you all on the sands, and may your weapons strike true and
your shields protect you (except, of course, against MY warriors *grin*)!! -- Lord
Xiang, D2-101
