TEAM SPOTLIGHT
The Obsidian Golem circled the tower once, studying it. There was no door that
it could see. Was it to enter, and would this require an act of violence? It looked
in the direction the Cult Member had gone. There was no sign of the standby now, not
even tracks on the muddy path. The lack of tracks was odd, but there were many odd
things in the world, and it was not a part of the golem's current orders to pursue
answers.
It paused, and had it been able to wrinkle its brow in confusion, it would have
done so. Its orders had been to follow the Cult Member to the tower, and it had done
so. But there had been no clear direction as to what was to come next. It had made
an assumption when it decided that the tower was what mattered, and making
assumptions was not something it was encouraged to do. Perhaps it was supposed to
follow the Cult Member to the end of that person's traveling, and Arenamistress Sugar
had made an assumption: that the Cultist was going to the tower and nowhere else.
The arenamistress could have been wrong in that assumption; humans made errors at
times.
Which was its proper job? To follow the Cult Member, or to enter the tower?
The Golem became aware of heat in the vicinity of its thought-generator. It was
not designed for problem solving of this particular type.
DUELMASTER'S COLUMN
Notes from the arena champ.
Greetings Arvat, this is obviously my last defense of the throne as I have been
called to the Isle. And so my days in Arvat run short. I shall miss the closeness
of our arena, and the familiar faces of the warriors and the fans. I leave not with
a heavy heart, but one that is hopeful for the future. Noble has told me that he
will give me a shot in AD to see if I can compete there--I trust I will be able to.
Some highlights of my career here: My two losses were to Stratostar and M.A.
Fistafoles, whom I've fought three times, and am 2-1 against. Presuming I win my
last fight here, I leave winning twelve in a row, including wins over Charon, Freki,
Sensoo O Suru (his last fight on his way to the Isle, never to be seen again), Dark
Sky, and Isuzu Trooper (whom we've given all three of his losses between our squad).
I've fought five arena stand-ins in my career and am 5-0 against them (three the last
five turns). 3-3 was my best tourney showing in the adepts, and I ended up 4-0 vs.
The Stormlords in our feud. According to the "terrablood site" (whatever that is), I
am listed as the longest consecutive duelmistress in Arvat history, though I realize
that is not all-inclusive. On this same list, we are listed as the only team in
Arvat's history that has been able to go 15-0 over three turns, actually 20-0 the
last four turns, and 28-2 the last six. Most importantly to me, I feel I was a
fairly integral part in our squad defeating Icelord and his warriors, coming from
behind to do so. Our squad is 72-30 since I joined it, and I've greatly enjoyed my
opportunity to leave the "Call the Priest" legacy on Arvat forever.
Noble told me to say that my starting stats were 10-9-10-17-15-10-13. He said that
would leave some of you managers scratching your head...I'm not sure what it all
means. Apparently, my favorite weapon is a shortsword, I am 8-0 in the arena with
it, so I can't doubt that. In parting, I'll just say goodbye Arvat. Remember this
though...I and the rest of my teammates fight for Destitute Noble, and for the glory
of League Arcane. If you ever feel you need to badmouth us, and call our manager
names and question his character, step on up like Icelord did. We responded to the
call, and we always will!

SPY REPORT
Greetings warriors! It is I, Zontani Sharp Eyes, here to bring report of the
clash and bustle of the weekly ARVAT games. My praise to DEVIL ADVOCATES for their
4-1-1 week this time out. Indeed, it was a skillfully fought round deserving of
notice! I could not but notice the fine record for RILL'S GCSC2 (4-1-0) after their
first round of combat. May the gods of war favor you in ARVAT! GRETH caught the eye
of many in the gladiatorial commission as he skillfully bested HUNCHBACK GROWLER and
was awarded 27 points in recognition. In one of the week's more notable duels,
MIMOSA put down BALLISTIC IMP, causing him to lose 12 points of recognition in the
process. Not for nothing has BEFORE THE DAWN in the past laid claim to the
Duelmaster's throne, and this week she's proven hers combat skill yet again. Heed
this! A seer has warned that if exactly 6 die in duels this week, the whole city
shall perish! Just remember...5 or 7!
Many and various are the arts of battle. In ARVAT "art" is a word that has long
since passed from the language! I saw one fighter that warriors avoided when this
week's challenge seeking began. DEVIL ADVOCATES is feared. This much I can say.
Apparently the stalwarts of DEVIL ADVOCATES are catching the bulk of jests down at
the challenging board for their large share of the avoids. Mighty fighters cannot
but expect competition from those below. ELEGOST take warning! You have more than a
few enemies in ARVAT. I can not but mention with disdain the name of LOU CYPHER who
this week posted a challenge to a warrior a full 14 points below in the rankings. I
thought LOU CYPHER showed great skill and promise when he killed VANITY. All right,
so I slept through it! Big deal!
Is not Death a warrior's foremost adviser? Warriors, may this counselor stand
ready at your right hand forever! My sources at PHILANTHROPISTS stable claim they've
never seen the guild bitterer. This as a result of the untimely demise of ELEGOST.
Beware ULTHAR ULSAY! My hearty congratulations ULTHAR ULSAY, for thy revenge upon
ELEGOST, slayer of thy fallen comrade. Next time he will know better, eh? Some say
a warrior is judged by the way he bears arms. One thing is sure, better a dagger in
hand then a sword on the belt!
The girls are as pretty in ARVAT as ever I remembered them....and the fighters
as ugly! Don't let your reputation slip! More than a sharp eye must I keep, indeed
a stout pair of legs must I keep as well! The endless paths of Alastari await me!
Till we meet again, remember: a turtle walks slow, hides head in a shell, and harms
no one; a lion runs to slay its prey.-- Zontani Sharp Eyes

PERSONAL ADS
Greetings, everyone. I would like to announce my arrival in this arena. I have come
to join some of my Brotherhood of the Blade comrades in this fine arena. Or at least
I have been told it is a fine arena. It is my intention to try to fight every turn
and not "time" for tournaments. My team should be easy to recognize but for those
that do not know me, the team name is abbreviation for the following: Rillion's
GenCon SoCal 2 team. With a name like that it won't surprise you that this team was
started at a Demo tournament. I won't elaborate on how the team did (some might
consider it egotistical to brag about TC'ing the tournament), but I will say that I
did not use the Dark Arena once, this is a completely intact original team roll-up.
Greth & Roland have some experience from the demo tourney. The rest are "rookies" to
fighting. As for the individual warrior names, they are taken from my DND characters
that I played while at GenCon SoCal. Well, I've rambled enough for now. Hail and
well met! -- Rillion
Gwaudian was 13-11-11-9-9-18-13 ST. -- The Stormlords
M.A. Fistafoles -- Bah. -- Loggerhead
Bill Zeybub -- Don't you get tired of being locked into the same old team theme, year
after year after year? -- Freddie
Bisimwa -- Ah, somebody new. That's always a pleasure to see. -- Peter Pepper
P.S. Even when I lose.
Jhanti Gravett -- I suppose I should have been suspicious when you brought out that
big bowl of sauce.... -- Ghost of The Shrimp
Mimosa -- Weird. I expected somebody with your name to be a woman. -- Heron
P.S. I guess that makes you try harder. Like being named Sue.
Lady Protector Before The Dawn -- Oh, my! That early? I could never get up that
early, although I could STAY up that late! But I'm not sure that night air is
healthy, whichever way you find it. We can't give you any lands, of course--don't
have any. But how about a certified "Sleep Late" pass? -- Arenamistress Sugar
If she doesn't want it, I'll take it! -- Ed.
