DUELMASTER'S COLUMN
Notes from the arena champ.
Well met, fellow warriors of Arvat! It is indeed a great honor to again address you
as the "leader of the band" as it were. This is the eighth turn in a row either
myself or my departed teammate Before the Dawn has been the top warrior in our fine
city--truly a glorious way to start the first cycle of dueling for the new year. It
was a mixed bag last week though--we did have two losses to arena stand-ins, causing
us to lose a string of five undefeated turns in a row. This is by far a record for
any Noble-managed squad--in fact, though his memory is of course ravaged by old age,
he said he never recalled having three undefeated turns in a row with any of his
squads over his expansive career, and 14-1 had been his best previously. It was fate
that our squad would shatter his record, and perhaps set a record for all of
Alastari, eh?
I was well-tuned for my fight against Lou last turn. He did manage to swing twice,
but did not connect with me, and he seemed to almost walk into my attacks. On top of
that he was a great teacher, so for that, I thank him. It appears I may be fighting
his sword brother M.A. Fistafoles this turn being that he is the only challenger
champion to oppose me--it will truly be a battle worthy of the throne of Arvat! May
the best warrior win!
The feud between our squad and The Stormlords is now behind us, and by our numbers we
ended up ahead in the win column 23-11 in direct duels. As it turns out, those of
you who bet the Trainer's line would've won had you bet the over on us (the line was
53.5 wins for us, we ended up going 58-22) and the under on them (the line was 43.5
wins and they went 30-49). Around 40% of the total fights of our squads were in
direct competition with each other--not too bad, would've been less had many other
teams, like the Trainer's, hung out and participated. The true turning point for us
was the St. Louis tourney, and the recruiting of Freewheel Burnin'. He alone was 10-
0 against The Stormlords' troops, and certainly we hope he continues his winning ways
against whomever is his opponent.
That's all I have for you this cycle, Arvat! I wish you well, and pray I can address
you again next cycle!

SPY REPORT
If you were disturbed from your beauty rest only to have to watch a bunch of
ARVAT brutes like you, you'd be grouchy, too. Later days, DEVIL ADVOCATES, since
CALL THE PRIEST took top team from you this turn, you guys are old news. Now let's
all watch RILL'S GCSC2's heads swell from their 4-1-0 this turn. Haa ha ha ha! Big
shots, big talk, big deal. Of course, we're all terribly impressed to see LOU CYPHER
win a fight and gain 20 points, terribly. Tsk, tsk, LOU CYPHER beat FREEWHEEL
BURNIN' and FREEWHEEL BURNIN' lost 10 points. You're breakin' my heart. And if
variety is the spice of life, ARVAT may be getting bland, as SINNER stays top dog in
the city. Kickbacks and bribes, kickbacks and bribes, how else do you think some of
these guys win their fights? Skill? Ha!
My mother always told me, 'If you don't have anything nice to say, start
talking.' I loved that woman. ARVAT, I am losing what little hope I had in you.
PHILANTHROPISTS the most avoided team? What insult will suffice, I cannot say. And
it looks like RILL'S GCSC2 avoided them the most this turn. What a pack of would be
losers, if you ask me. Hmph. LOGGERHEAD was challenged more times this turn than
the Duelmaster. Now was the DM insulted or feared? Heh, heh. I notice M. A.
FISTAFOLES challenging down 23 points to fight LOGGERHEAD, DEVIL ADVOCATES doubtless
has some rotten excuse for such an insult to honor. And golly gee, M. A. FISTAFOLES
subdued LOGGERHEAD. Aren't we all surprised and impressed? FREDDIE was challenged
by one of ANGELS OF PAIN's warriors this turn, with FURY having a lead of 16 points
going into the fight. And sorry to say, FURY killed FREDDIE, leaving a bad feeling
with the crowd. I think exploitive snob is the term I'm looking for.
Death and Taxes. The less death I see, the more it taxes my patience. Let's
see if anyone's dead or dying. Bye bye, warrior, bye bye... FREDDIE, a glorious
5-4-0 fighter, has passed away. Gee, too bad FISHERMAN'S WHARF. We're all going to
die in the end, so why worry if the fate catches up with you sooner that later?
What does the ARVAT arena have in common with the inns? It's just as
comfortable to sleep in either place. Ha ha ha ha! Phlllt! Just had to do that
before I leave the fine city of ARVAT. I feel much better now. I see the crowds are
getting restless, I must leave now-- Snide Clemens

All -- Sorry for my lack of correspondence last turn. What with the holidaze and
all, I lost track of time. -- Rillion
Jorja -- Hello, it has been awhile since we shared an arena. I will try to not fall
into the old habit of replacing the second j with a g. -- Rillion
Sentinel -- Yeah, run a full team. All the cool people are doing it. Don't you want
to be popular too? -- Rillion
Destitute Noble -- Thanks for the welcome! -- Rillion
Peter Pepper -- Hmm...either you are better than your record indicated or I've got
problems. I hope for my sake it is the former. -- Gelen
Heron -- Sorry for that "downchallenge" but I was quite upset at the unjustified
number of recognition points that the commission awarded me after my first fight so
looked for a challenge in the range of where I thought I should have been ranked.
Fortunately your victory has rectified the problem. -- Demetren
Jhanti Gravett -- Ha, you thought you could compete with me?!? You are just a punk
while I am a true orcish champion. Next time I will kill you. -- Greth
Damnation -- Very unfortunate couple of turns for you there. Sorry about that. --
Roland
Idrial -- I consider myself lucky to have won that fight. -- Demmell
M.A. Fistafoles -- We don't even bother to try against you guys. Some things aren't
meant to be. -- Loggerhead
Misery -- Of COURSE I'm not laughing at you! I worked HARD to give you what you
wanted, and I want you to be "happy" with it. Or, as the case might be, I suppose, I
want you to be overflowing with the misery of it. I figured it was some kind of
duty, you know? -- Freddie
P.S. Odd, I had actually FORGOTTEN that I was female till I was taking off my armor
and noticed the shape of the breast plate. I think I've been practicing too much.
Gelen -- Well, what did you EXPECT, anyway? Or more to the point, what did your
manager expect? Does he have you scheduled for a night fight? If so, my sympathies,
and I hear that it's possible to bribe Arenamistress Sugar to let you fake your
death. I've been told she's partial to chocolate. An odd taste, but that's women
for you. Anyway, good luck, whatever. -- Peter Pepper
P.S. Or a different weapon, of course.
Demetren -- (recoiling) Gods, a Rirorni! We should have killed them ALL fifteen
years ago! Burned the southern wasteland to a TRUE wasteland. Slaughtered-- Wait a
minute, that isn't ME talking, is it? Have I been possessed by a bigot? But I have
an amulet of protection against that very thing, and I'm careful what I eat (that
being the only way for a demon, of bigotry or any other type, to evade the amulet).
It...could it have been the deviled ham? Gods, I'll have to get myself exorcised! --
Heron the taken-aback
Aragorn -- I wish you much pleasure at the Face to Face and wish I could be there,
too. This will be the first winter one I've missed in many years, but that's how it
goes. Say Hi to the staff and the other managers for me. -- Jorja
Devil Advocates -- Truly then, your team is in a shambles if a 17 wit 15 will warrior
would be the star. Then again, she was the star of our team for many turns too....
-- D. Noble
Icelord -- As I said before--I hope to return to being respectful adversaries to each
other and pray that our journey has provided us a bit more insight into each others
minds. It is apparent you are a true warrior--and no doubt a good ally to have on
one's side. Bosk is a lucky man indeed! -- D. Noble
