                                      SPY REPORT

It's me, The Unknown Spymaster here with my bag to give you the news on last
week's fights. Advancing in the rankings was ANGELS OF PAIN who went from last
turn's 39-28-1, to this week's record of 43-29-1. Hey everybody, watch out for
BRONZE GOLEM, who flew up 18 points in the rankings after mashing EMBEZZLING SCRIBE
like a melon. Keep your eye on this beast. And falling like a basher in the top ten
was HERON, who dropped 8 points after a disappointing (to say the least) bout with
TORMENT. Drawing on all of his experience as a 15-4-0 warrior, M. A. FISTAFOLES went
for the Duelmastership against SINNER this week. Going for the gusto and coming up
with aught but bloody knuckles was DEVIL ADVOCATES' M. A. FISTAFOLES, who was turned
away from the Duelmastership by SINNER. Advice to bashers--never force anything,
just get a bigger halberd!
But enough of that bunch, let's get on to the wimps who like to avoid battle!
Here's a song for you: Who's afraid of the big, bad DEVIL ADVOCATES? Big bad DEVIL
ADVOCATES. Big bad DEVIL ADVOCATES. ARVAT's afraid of the big bad DEVIL ADVOCATES.
Tra la la la la! And you guys like to boo me? Well, unsling your rasberries, cause
CALL THE PRIEST beats feet every time DEVIL ADVOCATES smiles at them. Try farming,
eh? And who is this THUNDER ROAD you ask, with 18 points and a 3-0-0 record. Ooh,
the tales I could tell! Can any one out there say 'weasel'? Oh well, just saying
MIMOSA will do. He challenged 28 points down to trash JUSTICE. Well MIMOSA, just
can't get an easy fight anymore can you? You thought challenging down 28 points to
JUSTICE would be fun. Right? Wrong! LOU CYPHER of DEVIL ADVOCATES had better have
a good reason for challenging down 8 points in a challenge which he won. I thought
LOU CYPHER showed great skill and promise when he won victory over LOGGERHEAD. All
right, so I slept through it! Big deal!
Death is kind of like a new puppy: he's always around wanting to play. (Ha
Zontani, how's that for a wise saying?). Knowing when to use the right tactics at
the proper time is a very important step on the road to Duelmaster.
I think I had better cut this one short. It's been nice chatting to those of
you whom I have not offended yet. Well, there goes another Spy Report. Good luck in
next week's fights. See ya next time I'm on this circuit!-- The Unknown Spymaster

                                     PERSONAL ADS

Gelen -- Regarding your ad to Peter Pepper last turn: Judging by your performance
against Mordant Deserter, it was the latter.... -- Thunder Road

Lou Cypher -- We don't accept defeat, we never will retreat! -- Freewheel Burnin'

Dark One -- Curse you! I thought I had a chance to break my managerial undefeated
record with Mr. Burnin', but you screwed it up for me. It's just another of many
undeserved losses you've given me throughout my managerial career. -- D. Noble

M.A. Fistafoles -- The old familiar story. Gods, I get so tired of it sometimes!
Maybe I should sneak into the Dark Arena.... -- Loggerhead
P.S. They tell me that if you bribe the right people, you can survive the
experience. Of course, you have to leave town then, because it wouldn't do for
anyone to see a "dead" gladiator walking down the street.

Fury -- I suppose you'd tell me you weren't TRYING to kill me? Pelvis, head with a
death intent statement, head with a death. I was doomed, wasn't I? Oh, well, I
think I'll be reborn as a NON-gladiator. Much better. -- Ghost of Freddie

Justice -- As if! There is no such animal. At least, not in the arena. -- Heron,
wondering why this ever sounded better than standing on one foot in the water
watching for fish

Demetren -- Heron was right about one thing, it IS odd to see a Rirorni here. But
since I didn't eat any deviled ham, I can just not it idly in passing, right? --
Peter Pepper
P.S. My peppers are very strong in the spirit of, um, non-possession-by-devils.

I.M. Ceytin -- I thought you were some kind of antibiotic, that you would help keep
me ALIVE, and what did you do? You KILLED me. That is really annoying. -- Ghost of
Figgs

Rillion -- Thanks, but...what about 107? Just because I used a different manager
name there doesn't mean we weren't both present! And now we're both in 103. And,
well, very many other places. But it's true that I haven't seen you often in a Basic
arena lately. What Ho, and other words of greeting. Or did I already say that? --
Jorja
P.S. Ed. would have fixed it.

Gelen -- All Jorja's warriors are better than their records, except when the arena is
miniscule. -- Peter Pepper

Demetren -- This is not an Andorian arena, after all. -- Heron

All -- We apologize for the lack of personals last turn--they were submitted but once
again were not printed. This has been an ongoing problem lately for us. We used to
have much better luck when we handwrote them on the back of a blue sheet--never
missed a turn. Maybe the typists are so used to the Dark One's scrawl that these
typed, legible personals are confusing! -- the Devil Advocates

Sinner -- Missed you last turn. Let's rock. -- M.A. Fistafoles

Freewheel -- Not one of my best performances, but just enough to take you out. I'm
sure we will meet again. -- Lou Cypher

Freddie/Figgis -- Unfortunate. Two losses for your squad in one turn. We have been
told to let you guys live as you are excellent trainers. Especially Freddie since
you showed talent in beating Misery last turn. Our condolences to your manager. --
Devil Advocates/Angels of Pain

D. Noble -- The Devil Advocates team is legendary for making mediocre or even poor
warriors into starts. A 17/15 Wit/Will is rare for us--13/15 is usual and worse is
likely. Of course we have always been fond of the challenge. -- the Devil Advocates

Rillion and Crew -- Looks like you have a vast advantage in our early matchups--
hopefully we'll even things out over the years and make our fights more challenging
for your fellows. -- the Devil Advocates

Stormlords -- With luck you will reconsider your decision to depart Arvat. Your
rivalry with Destitute Noble has enlivened the arena. You would be missed. -- the
Devil Advocates

Aragorn -- I remember you well. I have tracked your career over the years--despite
it being somewhat intermittent. It is good to face you here on the sands once again
--even if most of my warriors are pathetic worms. The best of luck to you at the
face to face. -- the Dark One

Freddie -- Well done. I tried a new strategy. Apparently I need to try another new
one.... -- Misery

Philanthropists -- 9-5-11-21-17-6-15 and dead...most depressing. And in this
cesspool of rollup garbage you are not likely to see his like again. -- the Devil
Advocates

Sinner -- Well done. I have a way to go before I'm ready to fight for the title. --
A vanquished Lou Cypher

Just a reminder to all you online type people. It is much appreciated if you send
your personals in PLAIN TEXT, rather than HTML or formatted text. HAL, in his
infinite wisdom, doesn't DO formatting, which means having to unsnarl your personal
ads from bunches of extraneous...stuff. So, if your e-mailer has a plain text
option, let it be your friend. -- Ed.
P.S. Sometimes it's the formatted text which makes ads go astray. Not often, but
sometimes.
