TEAM SPOTLIGHT
Topiary paced the floor of the Saratoga Glory guild house, his eyes tracing his
steps. Once a guildhouse of prominence and glory, now just a dusty, cold and
weathered shell. Weapons of all kinds adorned the walls, tarnished and dull. Chairs
and parchment were strewn about the floor. Dingy rags, matted and moldy were in the
corners of room. "This has all been worth it!" Topiary thought.
The door flew open and in strode a smaller powerful looking gladiator.
"What is thy news Stratostar?" Topiary asked.
"HE is has returned!" exclaimed Stratostar.
A mixture of relief, anger, concern and rage swirled in Topiary's stomach.
"HIM? Where has he been? Why did he leave us? What is his explanation?"
"He will explain it all. I ran ahead to warn you, Topiary. I know how
emotional you can get. Just try to listen to him and understand. Try not to take
things so personally. Okay?"
"Okay.... Well?! WHERE IS HE?!?!?!?!"
"Nice job of trying...."
Just then the door that was ajar was pushed open and a man entered. His eyes
smoldered with disgust and his nostrils flared. He scanned the room, seemingly
oblivious of the two figures in the room. He strode forth and kicked over a chair
that had been lying on its side. From beneath his robes he pulled out a shiny orb.
As his fingers released the orb it hovered in mid air. A blinding light grew from
the sphere. Before anyone could move it encompassed the entire room. It flashed a
brilliant array of colors. Stratostar and Topiary threw up their arms to shield
their eyes.
Silver Train and Personal Legend had been training in the back barn. Trying to
keep their skills sharp and their reflexes ready. They both noticed what seemed to
be an explosion without the noise emanating from their home. They were out of the
barn and on the back porch in a flash. As they hurled the door open they prepared
for the worst. What their eyes gazed upon was a shock.
Their once cold, musty and dark home was no longer. They stood before a
brightly lit and warm and richly furnished palace. There they stood in awe, blinking
wildly. Amazement and disbelief on their faces. This could mean but one thing....
HE was back! Silver Train and Personal Legend raced into the living room and they
saw him.
"Mad Max, I mean, the Trainer!! You're back!!!!"
"Ah, Silver Train, Personal Legend. So good of you both to join us. I was just
about to explain to Topiary and Stratostar where I have been. First, I must
apologize profusely to you both as I have to your guildmates. I am very sorry.
Please sit and enjoy the food. I will explain everything to you now." He paused for
a moment pursed his lips and began to speak once again.
"I was in Aradi with my team and I was preparing my team there for the upcoming
TOGS, well, now this past TOGS, when a figure appeared out of no where. This figure
pointed a wand at me and all went black. I was confined standing, in a space of
stone and earth in total darkness unable to lay down for what seemed like years. I
only survived thanks to a trickle of water and the occasional earthworm that would
crawl through an opening. I had no idea who would do this to me or why. Only thanks
to the Mighty Caesar was I rescued."
"Caesar?!?!?! But I thought he was dead!" exclaimed Topiary.
"May I continue?" Mad Max interrupted.
"Certainly, my lord." Silver Train responded. "Topiary, keep your mouth shut
while the master speaks."
"It's okay Silver Train. Now, where was I?"
Topiary opened his mouth to speak but closed it quickly after his guildmates
turned and flashed a mean look in his direction.
"Ah, yes, Caesar. It was actually quite by accident really. He had been on an
eight year bender at the Green Dragon Tavern. He was despondent with the over all
talent of his gladiators and he had grown weary of beating Destitute Noble's warrior
with such ease. At one point Noble's warriors had actually proved to be somewhat of
a challenge for his warriors but Caesar had gained such dominance over Noble's
warriors that DN refused to accept challenges from his former equal. Now, it would
just be pure luck if one of Noble's warriors could even survive a minute. It was a
shame really. It had been quite a rivalry at one point too."
"Anyway, the mighty Caesar was out playing some game called "the links" where
you hit a small dimpled white ball called a "golfer" or something like that. He had
hit his "golfer" into the dirt when all of a sudden he fell victim to this fearsome
pitfall known as a "Sand Trap". In his desperation to get out of this "Sand Trap"
he began hacking into it causing all kinds of dirt and debris to go flying. The next
thing I knew I was free. Thanks to Caesar's wild flailing and panic caused by the
Sand Trap I was able to escape. I owe him my life."
"Well, after that, Caesar and I (with the help of the Dark One) were able to
track down who cast that spell on me. It was the Sandman."
"The Sandman?!?!" exclaimed the group. "But isn't he a member of the
BoB?!?!?!"
"Yes, he was."
"But, why?!?!"
"Apparently, he had grown jealous of the fact that I was doing better in
tournaments than he was. I had pulled 2 TCs and 3 runner ups in a years time on a
very limited budget. He wasn't doing anything with more than 3 times my budget.
It's a shame really. He was a decent fellow. He is taken care of now though."
"How, did you take care of him?"
"Well, Caesar, the Dark One and I threw him in a lake. He is a laughing stock
now. We just call him Mudd."
"So, who's ready to train? I'm not going anywhere ever again!"
SPY REPORT
Like the magnificent Sun, rising upon the Dawn and exiling the Night for a Day,
I, Novgorodny Vir, return once again! LUROCIAN GUARD after a sorry 1-4-0 might want
to consider abandoning the sands and taking up singing the 'Can't fight no more'
blues! Nothing works for a team like victory (How's that for a perceptive
observation?) as DISILLUSIONED can attest... Say what you will about blind luck and
dirty fighting, but ANGELS OF PAIN will tell you 120-81-4 is nothing to laugh at...
A certain someone should cut down on the drinking and practice more, after losing 23
points to DEMETREN. (Discrete enough, STRATOSTAR?) Duelmaster IZUSU TROOPER from
FLAMING DEATH is going for the gold, as it challenged RILL'S GCSC2's ROLAND. Ooh,
the excitement! Those who hoped for a new Duelmaster were disappointed by ROLAND, of
RILL'S GCSC2, who despite a 19-10-0 couldn't overcome ARVAT's Number 1. So who was
the warrior seen charging into immovable walls and challenging dead trees? Someone's
got a basic problem...
My mother wished me to avoid conflict, and seek the gentle trade of Spyreporter.
But warriors aren't supposed to avoid fights! Like the noble eagle soaring amongst
the mountaintops, so stand the warriors of FLAMING DEATH, alone and unchallenged. As
a woman of good breeding scorns the "warriors" of DISILLUSIONED, so did that sorry
team shy from FLAMING DEATH Is it charming personality? Conversational abilities?
Good oral hygiene? Whatever it is, GEROGE ROFT is the most challenged warrior.
SARLOW found himself challenged by a warrior 18 below: BRIDGESTONE. BRIDGESTONE of
FLAMING DEATH kept its wits as it won victory over SARLOW. My love of complete
Spyreports dictates that I note the mismatched fight, HEARING AID and PETER PIQUIN.
Are DISILLUSIONED unwilling to engage in a fair fight? I thought HEARING AID showed
great skill and promise when he won victory over PETER PIQUIN. All right, so I slept
through it! Big deal!
Ah, the duel! The roar of the oppenent, the smell of the crowd! Alas, poor
LAURA. We all know LUROCIAN GUARD's retirement plan isn't the best in the world.
SILVER TRAIN, may you be as missed when your time comes. A moment of silence for
LAURA, who died an untimely death at the hands of SILVER TRAIN. In the spirit of
revenge, we call upon LUROCIAN GUARD to act! Questions are being raised about the
disposing of severed body parts in the arena. A certain tavern in ARVAT would I
avoid!
All good things must come to an end. My fingers tire and I fear my incessant
prattling may cause unfair judgement upon my impeccable character. ARVAT, I leave
you now. The Duelmaster has agreed to foot my bill at The Warty Toad. 'Til next
time-- Novgorodny Vir

24 January 2007
The Council of Lords would like to propose a rule change in ADM and Primus. We
propose that Lord Protectors ranked "Grand Champions" and below (ADM) and "The Tower
Guard" and below (Primus) be allowed to fight in the Dark Arena. This would not
impact the top rankings or title match. Any managers who never got his fill or shot
at fighting Gateway monsters would have it as an option. We believe it might spark
some interest in the ADM/Primus realm for some managers. If interested, speak up in
the newsletters or on forums under the "rules changes" thread and let RSI know. This
could even be something to try for 12 months and then be re-evaluated. What say you,
managers of Ghea? -- The Icelord sends....
