DUELMASTER'S COLUMN
Notes from the arena champ.
Citizens of Arvat. I, Silver Train, your Duelmaster, salute you! It has been
exactly 40 turns since I was last your Duelmaster and a total of 38 turns since I was
last active. I have achieved my title thanks to Isuzu Trooper's graduation. In my
own fight I faced a worthy opponent in Laura of Lurocian Guard. Unfortunately, she
met her demise after our duel (these healers really stink). It was certainly not an
intended death and I regret my killing of her. I shall dedicate my next victory in
Laura's honor.
Next turn's challenges shall go out to Freewheel Burnin' and to Demetren. My
reason for challenging Freewheel Burnin' is that I want to test my skills against a
warrior that has already earned immortality. My challenge against Demetren is for
his victory over my guild mate Stratostar. I know he is a worthy opponent if he can
defeat my comrade in arms as we face each other everyday in our training sessions. I
will need to be at my absolute best if I am to return as Duelmaster.
It is now time to turn your attention over to the Trainer.
Greetings all, I have to say that I was more than a little disappointed in
Caesar's noticeable absence this past turn. I expected to hear his usual tales of
debauchery and death to we all enjoy hearing so much at the Green Dragon Tavern but
alas that was not to be. Perhaps Caesar has realized that he no longer has what it
takes to be the great manager that he once was. I remember days when Darius the
Deathless ruled Arvat with an Iron Spear. I remember when Trebonius killed at will
and when Artemedorus scummed at will. Perhaps those days have passed along with the
rule of the Romans. I pray that is not the case.
Well, unless someone can unseat Silver Train, which I highly doubt, I expect to
see you all here next turn. Until then, may all of your opponents wear armor of
silk.
Silver Train & the Trainer
SPY REPORT
You elder fighters surely remember me. The younger ones may call me Olaf
Modeen. I return to ARVAT once again! Some people say I ramble too much, I don't
say anything relevant. I repeat myself. I ramble. Well ANGELS OF PAIN moved up 2,
to 2nd. What's with GREATER VRULL? He actually beat RILL'S GCSC2's MESHARR, and
walked away with 21 more points from the fight. Laughs were big at FISHERMAN'S WHARF
while they watched HERON clobber GELEN. He lost 9 points and got bruised from
objects thrown from the stands. See how the Duelmaster challenged RILL'S GCSC2's
DEMETREN? That sort of initiative is how he got where he is now. DEMETREN was
reminded on the sands why SILVER TRAIN is Duelmaster. I suppose you want to hear
some rumors and dirty gossip about your fellow fighters? Tough!
If at first you don't succeed, avoid. That'll get you in the Spyreports. The
most avoided team was CALL THE PRIEST. Management must be dealin', as the boys at
DEVIL ADVOCATES ain't reelin'! CALL THE PRIEST's mad! What do people see in GEROGE
ROFT? His 3-3-0? FISHERMAN'S WHARF ain't talkin', but he's got 12 points. Taunt
your opponent GEROGE ROFT! That was my lucky charm when I was unfairly challenged.
(and by 19 points!) BELLE ZEYBUL should have an easy win. I have to get this off my
chest. What a low dog, BELLE ZEYBUL! She can't set herself up in a real match. I
was sorry to see GEROGE ROFT lose. I hate going to the effort of writing about the
kind of fights that BIONIC HIP gets in. He fights people like HORROR, 12 points
below. I thought BIONIC HIP showed great skill and promise when he was slain by
HORROR. All right, so I slept through it! Big deal!
A fighter's lot is filled with strife, revenge, and killing. Some fighters
don't accept this. The best do. Yeah, yeah, HORROR killed BIONIC HIP, who was "too
young to die." Well, he was a fighter, and that's what you have to face. Is it my
imagination, or are fighters getting younger every day? To die so young, so
gloriously!
Who knows what the future holds for a warrior. More fights, there's no doubt.
All work and no play makes Olaf a dull fighter. Work and play no fighter dull Olaf.
Olaffighterwork and no play. Remember--a good fighter needs both good skills and
good luck. Until next time,-- Olaf Modeen

Shucks! How disillusioning! With the loss of Constipation, my 13-3-11-21-9-10-17
stud at The Face, I am really, really, really bummed out. Now all I can do is pass
gas. Fie! -- The Old Man
Well, well. That 3-0 certainly makes me feel less Disillusioned. Sure enough! I
think I will go celebrate with some prune juice. -- The Old Man
The Trainer -- Welcome back, I guess. Uh, that free drinks thing at the Green
Dragon? Can you just put my share in a deposit to my retirement account? Please,
I'm abstaining anymore. (from a LOT of things) -- The Old Man
Karlrak -- This new replacement seems to work quite well. (It should for hip # 3!)
I didn't think I could last that long! -- Bionic Hip
Horror -- That was very nice of you to challenge me, I think. The freebie was nice.
But you must have something up your sleeve? What gives here, Buster? -- Senile
Peter P -- I do believe I like that great big thing. Whammo! What's that? What did
you say? -- Hearing Aid
The Greek Guy -- I hope you can accept my apologies for Silver Train's killing of
Laura. It was not our intention. If you challenge one of my warriors my KD is 9 but
on a random matchup I keep my warrior's KD much lower. Again, my apologies. We
shall await your bloodfeud. -- the Trainer
Demetren -- That was a good fight. I had you on the ropes and I let you off. It
appears I am much more rusty then I thought I was. We'll have to try it again some
time. Congrats on the win. -- Stratostar
Evil Fantasies -- I am impressed. I didn't think too many could outlast me. We
shall have to have a go of it again. -- Personal Legend
Bronze Golem -- That was just a poor, poor performance by me. I'll have to see what
I can come up with when next we meet. -- Topiary
Ugh! 1-4-1. That is a sad way to return. I can only hope we can improve next turn.
The Stormlords -- Welcome back. -- Saratoga Glory
Caesar -- Where are you? My much anticipated return seems so hollow without you
around. You had best return promptly, my friend. -- the Trainer
Freewheel Burnin' -- Congrats on the invite. It is a shame that we did not get to
lock swords during your tenure here. Best of luck in ADM if you choose that path. --
the Trainer
Destitute Noble -- Alas, United did not end Personal Legend's unbeaten streak but one
of your warriors did. You must be pleased. -- the Trainer
It is rare that a TP is the Popularity Leader. Congrats Justice. That is quite the
accomplishment. -- the Trainer
Fifteen Teams is a nice number but no Duelmaster's Column (shame on you, Sentinel)
and it appears only four managers wrote ads. That's just sad. Come on people, let's
get a little active. Sure there is no arena contest but let's get a little interest
started around here. -- the Trainer a.k.a. Arvat's cheerleader
Sugar Punch -- Good riddance. You stunk...and to think, I wasted a good name on
you.... -- the Trainer
Nine of the ten styles had were represented as style masters this past turn. Way to
go, Arvat managers.
The Trainer -- Welcome back! Not the most auspicious of turns, but I am sure that
your horses will come in strong on the back stretch.... -- the Dark One
Senile -- I expected an outcome along those lines. You are the better fighter--for
now. -- Horror
Freewheel Burnin' -- Adios! You did very well with what you brought to the table.
Fortunately, you won't be beating on me any longer. -- I.M. Ceytin
Rumor of the Week: The Old Man was seen exiting the Guildhouse of Saratoga Glory in
the middle of the night last week.... Though authorities at first suspected foul
play, it was later determined that the Old Man was simply unable to remember his own
address!
Spectral Knight -- Well, Gremlin's death is a bit of a mixed blessing. I was
clinging to this team just to get Isuzu Trooper out and was nearly there before
getting Gremlin and he was good enough that I was going to have to stick it out with
this horrid team. Now, on the turn that Isuzu Trooper heads to ADM, you have freed
me from this team. I guess that I'm going to take a shot or two at avenging his
death, just because it would humor me if I could kill you in return. -- The Sentinel,
mgr. of Flaming Death
All -- Despite the demise of this team with Isuzu Trooper's graduation and Gremlin's
death, I have enjoyed Arvat and think that I will try to stay active here and put
another team in. May take me a little while to get it together, but Arvat is one of
the places I would like to maintain a presence. I'll be back. -- The Sentinel
Arvat -- Isuzu Trooper is probably the most pathetic double-21 ever. 9-10-14-21-21-
4-5 LU who learned Init and has base of 5 in Defense (-2 Def) and mode everywhere
else. Overall a 41 skill base, worse than most strikers. Graduates with 3 low
Adex's and a Master in Init. He actually performed better than I expected and may
get a chance to fight in an immortal tourney somewhere. But mostly, I'm just glad
he's out so I'm not saddled with this team anymore. -- The Sentinel
Hearing Aid -- Eh? What's that you say? Speak up, sonny! -- Peter Piquin
Bridgestone -- At this time of year, I can almost--I say ALMOST--wish for a little
flaming, if not for death. I really understand Sam McGee, you know? -- Sarlow
Freki -- So, you got sucked into this life, too, eh? What did you do Before? I was,
and still am on my own time, a fisher in the shallows, of which Arvat has so many.
Too bad (for the local trade) that the duke can't afford to dredge the harbor, eh? --
Heron
Reign In Blood -- Ah, that explains it. When they called us out to fight, I thought
the steward said "RAINING Blood," and I detoured to get an umbrella, thus costing
myself the match, as it gave YOU time to get set. Oh, well. Way it goes. -- Fillis
Bouy
A deadly turn last time, must've been the cold. Everything's worse when you're
freezing. -- Fisherman's Wharf
The Trainer and Saratoga Glory -- (wincing) I remember how you saluted my "warriors"
before--bringing the sword up to salute position and gutting them on the way....
Glad to have you back. -- Jorja

The Council of Lords would like to propose a rule change in ADM and Primus. We
propose that Lord Protectors ranked "Grand Champions" and below (ADM) and "The Tower
Guard" and below (Primus) be allowed to fight in the Dark Arena. This would not
impact the top rankings or title match. Any managers who never got his fill or shot
at fighting Gateway monsters would have it as an option. We believe it might spark
some interest in the ADM/Primus realm for some managers. If interested, speak up in
the newsletters or on forums under the "rules changes" thread and let RSI know. This
could even be something to try for 12 months and then be re-evaluated. What say you,
managers of Ghea? -- The Icelord sends....

"Show me the money!"
This is the battle cry of a newly formed collection of like-minded individuals:
The High Dolla' Free Agent$. We are not a tough guy alliance: No...we offer no
battle without reward. We search for victory and the prizes and accolades that
follow. We are motivated by winning and will freely use whatever means necessary to

only a few objectives:
1) Win as often as possible
2) Celebrate freely and revel in your victories; the more meaningless the
victory the more we celebrate. Highsiding and chest thumping are encouraged.
Ostentatious endzone celebrations with prop usage are encouraged, regardless of
fines, penalties, suspensions or arrest by local authorities. It is important to let
your opponent know how great you are; more importantly, you must let your own
alliance mates know how great you are.
